I went there for a staff party and it was alright. The food was good (even though the nachos were a bit too spicy), the staff was nice (I liked that the guy in the bar remembered my order) but they had no blackcurrant. They’ve got a smoking area upstairs that closes at 10pm and after that you have to smoke outside. They have a good taste in music, beer pong, pool tables downstairs and a karaoke room, which I loved (the only disadvantage is that when you’re singing with someone at the same time, the microphones do not seem to work. Microphones work properly when they’re used one at a time). Overall I had a good time, I might go again with my partner.

The bouncers were rude and unnecessarily aggressive. Went someplace else and had a lovely night. Wouldn't go back in a hurry.

Fuimos para "brunch" como baile Blackdog sin límite NWS. Pedimos el pollo y gofres y lo que recibimos fue un pequeño cartón waffle con 2 pequeñas piezas de pollo cocidas. Apenas comestible que pedimos para los reemplazos. En el momento en que había comido brunch, ya habíamos estado allí por más de una hora. Las bebidas estamos supuestamente sin límite pero no flujo libre como hacen en otros brunch en el que he estado. Las bebidas estamos muy contadas e incluso limitado. No como lo anuncian. El lugar en sí está bien, yo no recomendaría el brunch!

Visited with my parents and partner, played some pool, had some drinks and dinner. My dad's burger was unfortunately a little cold (the rest of our meals were perfect); we reported this and it was dealt with courteously and quickly. Brilliant service, very impressed. Thank you.

I was out on a Christmas work due on Saturday 23/12/17 and I have stayed behind compare with my collegues, they all got in and when i aproched to the door one of your staf asked me If I had been drinking elsewhere wich i answered positiveley, at this moment he told me he was not letting me in leaving me out of my own work Christmas due.I don't know his name but obviousley this person is turning away your customers that leave his wages in your till.

It was my hen do on Saturday and soon as we got off the train the first place we came to was here! Great atmosphere, great selection of drinks, plenty tables and I love the roof terrace

Un amigo y yo gané un concurso para una cena asado este domingo de 4 y mesa de 5, y el personal era muy servicial con la cena, ya que tanto las comidas en diferentes locales de ganado, pero me las arreglé para reorganizar así para poder comer, sentarse juntos.

Este lugar es muy infravalorado. Hay muy buena ofertas en toda la semana, buenas bebidas y muy relajado. También la tenían porteros son. Es uno de mis bares favoritos en Manchester!

The food was excellent, as was the mulled cider. However, the massive bowl of sprouts didn't go down too well! There was a lack of choice of drinks and not enough toilets but there was a good atmosphere and the staff were friendly, helpful and efficient.

I went and had a nice drink venue seemed nice . Ordered a hotdog still waiting for the flavour to arrive. Chips were not cooked! I would say drinks ok food naaaaaa

They do 50% off all food on a Monday which is a really good deal. I had the pulled pork burger, but with a burger in it too, with sweet potato fries and shared a Mac and cheese side with a friend who had the classic burger. All good was good, however the Mac and cheese could have done with a crispy topping. It comes with tomatoes on top, but we removed these and asked for it to be put under the grill. It came back better but would be so much better with a good top to it. Prosecco is also only £20 a bottle here which is good value. The staff were attentive and on a Monday, with 50% off, it's well worth it. Will be going back for the bottomless brunch next...

Visited on a Monday evening. NY first visit in a year and a half and since the menu has been updated. A variety of burgers, hot dogs, salads and pizzas. Unfortunately, little choice for vegetarians. I had the pulled pork burger with sweet potato fries. Burger was ok though I felt a bit bland. Fries could have been crisp. Great for £6 on half price Monday but I feel £12 is a bit overpriced for what I got. Staff were friendly and service quick.

We had our summer party there. Very well organised and plenty of food and drinks for very reasonable prices. Will definitely return for any other occasions.

I really love this bar, the staff are friendly, you can spend a couple of hours there playing pool, its got a nice atmosphere, good food and it does good drink deals. Nothing not to love!

This bar gets everything so right, down to professionalism to how they serve the drinks, maybe the staff from the northern quarter could train from you guys, you could learn them a trick or two on the customer service front. Never had a bad service from this bar. This bar is my favourite with nice cocktails I just love it all, don't change ever !!!

Absolutely love this place and its staff, having come in here many a night after work it's become a firm favourite and the staff have always been spot on. So much so it's a go-to place whenever we're having pre-drinks or a quiet one after work.

One of the best places to just chill out and have a little fun. They have a range of offers, cheap food and free pool with a drink on wednesdays. Can get a little crowded and they don't usually have very much staff on the bar, which can make service a bit on the slow side, but overall a great place to go to, and a positive experience.

I have been a reasonably regular client of Black Dog's venues in Manchester (NQ, NWS and Dog Bowl) over the past few years and I have great respect for the way these bars are developed and operated. Nothing spectacular, but they get the basics right, which is pretty rare in my opinion. Venues are spacious, comfortable, clean and modern. Music is good. Staff are focussed on customer service. Food is decent and is served until late, incl all-day breakfast until 16:00. We watched the manchester derby in the upstairs venue at NWS this weekend, table reservation quick and easy, loved the venue, good food and good service. I will certainly be going back for football, as its difficult to find venues in manchester that are not overcrowded for big games like that one. Thanks black dog ballroom!

I had a surprise at NWS Black dog Ballroom. From the first telephone call the team were extremely pleasant, very very helpful and organised. They advised on food and the amount was just right for us, The brucie bonus pizza was superb quality an huge! Altogether, 30+ people arrived up and I truly believe the venue and service made the night extra special - thank you again. The team are superb - accommodating and thorough

Went with a group for the brunch package deal, waited an hour for the food to arrive which was then the wrong order. Other members also received the wrong food, drink orders took forever and considering it was supposed to be bottomless they were getting annoyed we were ordering drinks. Luckily the bad service didn't ruin our friends birthday celebrations I just doubt we'll be booking again.

Food was all right. Not amazing. Drinks are expensive, but match the atmosphere of the place. Bowling alley is awesome, and a great, quirky idea. Like this place a lot, and will definitely be back.

So five times in a month must mean they are doing something right and for the most part they are The hot dog here at £5 with onions is delicious, also great fries. I've also enjoyed the burgers here tooA bit of a stale bun on today's hot dog but as it was a 50% off through January special I can't complain too much Would happily return regularly

Great place for slate night for a drink and some pool. On Fridays and Saturdays stays up until late and plays some great music!

Great night here with Josh firing cocktails at out group. Us lot trying to follow his lead making them then some Kareoke in their little private room followed by plenty of pizza nachos, salad etc. All for £35 which seemed like great value to me. I was pretty damn hammered by 8.30 on the cocktails alone! Good group exercise, 20s/30s/40s would all love it (we were a mix of 30s/40s). Good for couples, groups and friends I'd say.

Some colleagues and I went out with business clients for a relaxed/informal evening and it was very good. We booked a buffet for 15 people and there was a good amount of food for us. We also booked the 4 pool tables which were great for entertainment and provided an excellent icebreaker.

Have been for lunch a few times - especially for half price Mondays! With such a great offer I was worried the food would be cheap - but it was a pleasant surprise.It a American diner type of menu - a selection of burgers, hot dogs, salads, pizza and great breakfasts.The last time I went I had a pizza and it was delicious. Nice tasting thin based with a tasty topping. Obviously at night it's a bar & club and very different but there's a nice relaxed atmosphere during the day.

I often book large group meals for my colleagues at Black Dog Ballroom, specifically in the New Wakefield Street location. I’m usually assisted by the very able Tasha who makes our booking, takes our pre-order and co-ordinates our food coming out at specific times to allow busy professionals to comfortably enjoy their food without rushing and still make it back to the office within their lunch hour. She is very charming and helpful, always a pleasure to deal with and often gives me advice on tips and freebies at the NWS branch and their other locations around Manchester.The venue is great with four good quality pool tables and reasonably priced use and rental of equipment and staff are polite and attentive as much as they can be. The food is moderately priced for the area and the menu inspired by American cuisine so expect various hot-dogs, pizzas, chicken wings, pancake stacks, etc. They have a slightly limited range of salads but have always been accommodating when I’ve asked for healthy concoctions of various items on the menu to suit individual tastes.For under £15 you can also get a monstrous 18 inch meat feast pizza that a single person would stand little chance of finishing. There are also often discounts/promotions on food and drinks so this place is well worth a bit of your time.If you have all day to spare, just drop in for a game of pool, a few drinks and a bite to eat. Equally, if you’re looking for somewhere for your lunch on a busy day, give the venue a call and speak with Tasha and the team to let them know your requirements and they will no doubt make your experience an enjoyable one.

We booked a table for the Utd game. Natasha was excellent, so much so we booked again. Bar staff were superb and we even got a free pizza at half time. Great place and well worth 5 stars

A burger, a hot dog and two lots of fries cost just over £10. Really tasty food, with the option of mixed fries (skin on potato fries and sweet potato fries), and a very yellow brioche bun updates the American style menu. I liked that there was a waitress service yet it was chilled and relaxed rather than busy and loud.

so your in Manchester on a Monday evening, where's a good place to eat.Well you could do worse that go to one of the three Black Dog bar's in the city. The food isn't Michelin star, but it's good enough and at 1/2 price the value is amazing. Add happy hour and it adds up to the perfect night out.

Group of us were playing pub golf. Weren't drunk at this point and we were not dressed awful, just polo shirts of different colours. We hadn't even reached the door and doorman said "I can tell you right now you aren't getting in" incredibly rude, we were a mix of females and males, and no need to be so rude.

Nice location and style and staff. Good menu for meat or veggie, great choice of drinks, well made cocktails, friendly service. Enjoy the music

Really enjoyed our visit with great service and even yummier food. We sat up on the terrace in the sunshine and sipped on £3 cocktails. Loved it, would recommend.

Went as a large group and had pre-ordered food, but still waited nearly an hour! I wonder how long the wait had been had we not pre-ordered!Service was excellent though, and apologetic, and the food was good and we did benefit from a 50% off deal.

Went for a private party last friday it was great. The room was perfect and had a private karaoke room which was great fun without subjecting the rest of the party to our dodgy voices. Special mention to the girk working behind the bar who was very very good at her job

Came for food - there was a good choice of burgers and hot dogs but lacking in any other choices, the burger I had was tasty and the food was warm. Service was slow, because the only girl seving all the tables was also having to do the bar work too. Experience was nothing particularly special, I would return but wasn't blown away. Pretty standard really.

Blackdog ball room - New Whitworth StreetI was faced with the challenge of organizing a relatively last minute company Christmas party. After hitting numerous brick walls i stumbled across Blackdog ball room, but never looked back. Libby who was my events contact was easily contactable, gave all sorts of options, and always had answers to my sometimes ridiculous questions!We booked the terrace bar for about 80 people at the blackdog ballroom on new whitworth street, and took a option to retain the karaoke booth for private use! It turned out to be an excellent choice. The room was more than spacious, with a good mix of seating and standing space. Couch at one end with a projector screen, and large screen TV at the other end. We had plenty of bar staff throughout the night to help, the main bars drinks offers where still applicable stand quite frankly the ammount of food that we received was amazing - something from organizing previous events at similar venues that is very unusual!as for the Karaoke both this was a superb little touch. It is directly linked to the Terrace bar and can house easily 20 people without issues, and i am sure we had approximately 50 in there at 1 stage!all in all an excellent venue that I would highly recommend, and it will no doubt be at the top of my list for any future events

Went for lunch with a few people from work, there was some issues with the waitress not seeming to understand what drinks were stocked but nevermind... drinks came.Then we waited... and waited... an hour and 15 minutes later everyone else finally had their food but mine was still nowhere to be seen and I wasn't able to wait any longer.Was still made to pay for my soft drink which I thought was a bit odd... I have contacted Black Dog 3 times since this happened and they've promised to get in touch each time... still yet to hear back from them.I find it quite amusing that Ross MacKenzie talks so much about customer service and 'over delivering on expectations' when it's pretty clear that is total nonsense.

I recently organised a private Christmas party for my team in the private room located within The Black Dog Ballroom NWS and have been extremely impressed!I first enquired about the venue as I had attended two 30th birthday parties there over the past year and had enjoyed not only the unique room (private entrance, private bar, pool table and optional karaoke room!) but it’s very lovely staff.After I had enquired I received several quick and professional responses I was assigned the lovely Libby who helped me with every single step of the planning right from choosing food and up until welcoming guests when they arrived. I cannot praise Libby enough! She was a fantastic help and because of her everything went off without a hitch. The other person I want to mention is the beautiful Rachel. Rachel was our barmaid for the evening and not only helped me set up the room but then managed to deal with me and my very drunk colleague’s professionally and with a great sense of humour.I feel like I do also need to mention the other members of staff such as the lovely friendly bouncer and the kitchen staff who prepped all of our food (many of the guests said it was the best pizza they has had in ages) for also doing a fantastic job. All in all I would recommend this venue for a private party and corporate events to anybody and I know I will most definitely be going back. Thanks again guys!

Came here for a meal with my partner. We were literally the only people in here yet my food came cold and they didn't have the meal my parter ordered. Not only that but they made us pay the £1 difference when he chose something else- not great service.

Ended up here towards the end of the night, a sticky type floor venue (at least at this time of night).Smart interior but grumpy staff who did not want to be there. All a bit lack lustre, wouldn't make any particular effort to go here again.

A great bar which does really nice bar food. A relaxed bar with pool tables and TV's showing the sport, but with sub titles so it's not really loud.

A very interesting small place (I only visited the first floor), with a few tables for two, a few booths, and some couches with coffee tables for more intimate dining (very intimate, if I were to judge by the couple on the couch opposite my booth). There are two wings, so to speak, one with dining tables and the other featuring (free) pool tables. The bar was reasonably well-stocked and reasonably priced.I had a late dinner there; they do stay open for food after some of the other places in the areas closed their kitchens. My burger with blue cheese was done nicely, with very fresh chips and fried onion rings.The accompanying cole slaw was exceptionally creamy.

Always enjoyed this location being right by Oxford road and the station. There is always plenty of room with the 3 floors and events on during the week with music and gigs on the go.Personally, I recommend mondays 50% off and always tend to go for the Bruce Bonus Pizza (12') with all the toppings or the 1/2 pounda Burger with fries and onion rings. Both are very filling and could even share with some sweet potatoe fries. Recommended for groups and individuals alike.

Tuesday night , not too busy, pool table booked, 2 hours... Good choice of food, burgers, pizza... Etc went for hotdog, sweet potato fries... Tins of vedette... All in all a good night. Been before will go again, staff nice, lady on phone when booking table really good... Even when I barely remembered my own phone number... So well done... A good place adding to the vibrant Manchester night scene... Next stop the Bowl...

I held my book launch here last month having been a couple of time for other business events. I hired the roof terrace and arranged for pizza, mini burgers, sweet potato fries ad regular fries. The roof terrace is fab, the doors were all opened up as it was a lovely evening, plenty of room to sit and move around. The team were on hand if we needed anything and the food arrived on time and was excellent, more than enough, a wide variety and excellent.Great venue for network time functions.

Visited The Black Dog Ballroom for the first time this week, to be honest I wasn't expecting too much because this is quite a large venue and was practically empty. Nestled away at the side of Manchester Oxford Rd station, the food was actually pretty good even though the service was a little slow, only one server appeared to be on duty. I had the club sandwich in a wrap and swapped my fried for sweet potato fries and they were delicious. One of our team even had a discount card so happy days. I'll happily go back here again, sadly the girl with the discount card is leaving our company so if anyone knows how to get another discount card, I'd love to hear from them.

To all poor students wanting an incredible meal on the cheap, Black Dog NWS on a Mondays is a must. Half price for all food and I would still willingly pay full price as the quality was that good and not overpriced regardless. Cocktails are also brilliant and the staff are welcoming. Recommended!

Got my arm twisted and thrown flat on my face for no reason. Shouldnt be treating punters like that full stop trying to explain to my mother why my face is bruised and cut open cheers! Staff inside couldnt fault them but the door staff get rid very brash and rude, wouldnt care if i had something illegal on me but the fact is i didnt. 0/5.

With affordable drinks but a hip atmosphere, the Black Dog Ball Room NWS offers a relaxed setting with great food. The staff are very friendly and we came back here several times during our visit.

After scouring numerous places in central Manchester I found this place to hold my engagement party with my fiancee. With quite a few people coming we weren't wanting to provide food as it would become too expensive. Our choices were therefore fairly limited.I had been to the NQ Black Dog a few times so was aware of them, but wasn't aware of the NWS one.We had a fully private room with street entrance, private toilets, private bar with our own bartender all night. Free use of the Kareoke room for an hour and a free pool table all night.All in all great value and I cannot thank the staff enough for helping us put on a great night. We were allowed in during the afternoon to decorate the room and this helped the atmosphere.Would definitely recommend anyone needing a function room for 50-80 people to look at this, I only wish I could have a party every month!

Booked a space in the upstairs terrace bar for a birthday. A really good space, with handy bar/ toilet/ smoking area. Everyone had a great time, and the staff did well putting up with a rowdy crowd. Would definitely book again.

When we arrived there was no body else in the resturant, we were sat for a short while before being served. After ordering the food came quickly. But once we had finished we were sat waiting for atleast 30 minutes, in a completely empty resturant whilst the girl serving us stared blankly into space. Despite our efforts to catch her eye contact we were eventually forced to pay for our food at the bar and left without desert. We had apsolutely no idea why she wouldn't serve us when she was doing literally nothing. Bizare.

As we live just round the corner, this is a great place to pop into for a quick drink or when we can't be bothered cooking.They do a good selection of sandwiches and burgers. It's typical bar food but certainly nothing to sniff at for the price. However its their 6" pizzas - if they still do them - which are not to be missed. There's a good selection, with a good distribution of ingredients and for £4/5 they are surprisingly filling. Teamed with one of their cocktail/drinks promotions, you can't really go wrong if all you want is a bite to eat and a few casual drinks.

We had our Christmas party at Black Dog this year and booked the upstairs terrace and karaoke booth, what an absolutely brilliant night! The atmosphere was lively and energetic with great music, the drinks were delicious, the karaoke booth was absolutely hilarious fun and the best part was that the staff were absolutely brilliant all night long, regardless of how noisy and silly we were! For me, great service makes an experience so much better and the staff on this night were fun, kind, patient and continuously pleasant. The staff who helped me to organise the evening were also brilliant and I felt completely welcomed and looked after from my very first enquiry email. Great drinks, awesome staff, seriously yummy pizzas and an amazing, karaoke filled, crazy night for everyone!

We came here for a cocktail on Sunday night, I know friends rave about the Blackdog ballroom and the NQ one is ok, so gave this one a try. First impressions, nice decor, nice and spacious. Very quiet inside, no real atmosphere. Ordered £3 cocktails, the weekend rockstar and the bramble. I'm sure I've had a weekend rockstar before, but it was so sweet I couldn't really enjoy it. The bramble was ok but nothing to write home about. We left after this as the whole place felt a bit chavy. Probably great for pool fans, but nothing special.

I was pleased to see that this is one of the few places that charges significantly less for a veggie breakfast than a normal meat one (£1 less when most places it's a toekn 20 or 50p), but that should have been a warning sign!The portion size was very small, IMO a full english should fill you up, I could have easily eaten too.But the bit that insults my intelligence is please don't cut my veggie sausage in half to try and make me think I'm getting two sausages, when in fact it's one! The whole breakfast had one of everything, not even two has browns!Also my friend wanted to order an eggs benedict and not everything was in stock, oh when will Black Dog sort out their stock ordering? Nearly every time I've been to a Black Dog something is out of stock or not available, my experience will all BDs is that they're a little hit and miss for service and food.

Visited as a pre-theatre meal & drinks and very impressed. Very studenty but understand why as food prices cheap & great drinks offers. Layout and decor very cool. Had a pizza which was huge and very tasty. Would definitely return.

Came here as a group, and found ourselves a table big enough for the 8 of us. The last diners plates were being cleared away at the time. We asked if it was OK for us to sit there, and the staff said yes. However, she didn't clear away all the plates and so we had to pile them up and push them aside, nor did she wipe down the table. No one came to serve us for our food and drinks, and we had to go to the bar and order them. However, on ordering it, the food arrived quickly. I had a spicy bean burger. Tasted good, but definitely no spice. Monday was 50% off all food, which made it very cheap, and for that reason, I wasn't going to complain to the staff.

£3 cocktails are okay when there Is a decent selection.. And if they actually have the products they need to make them! The fact classic cocktails were not on the menu and upon requesting a simple Long Island iced tea I was refused is a big surprise for a city centre club! Also the people behind had been waiting and hour for the chefs to get off their 'break' no sub chefs? When you advertise your club serving food till 1am I think early evening would be more appropriate time to order food, but no we had to wait and then when I finally ordered he had to go back to the kitchen to keep asking what was in stock. All together not a great experience. Will try again as the pool table area seemed a good laugh!

Visited this bar yesterday, Saturday afternoon. Lovely decor, warm and inviting.There was no staff and we stood unserved for at least 10 mins. There was one young man working alone and he was serving food to seated customers. Eventually came to serve us, a 'hello' and 'sorry for your wait' would of been nice but never mind! We asked for a cherry cola cocktail, they had no cherry bitters, we asked for a ginger beer, they had none and we asked if they had any non-alcoholic beer, guess what the answer was no! Yet another bar with a poor selection of non-alcoholic drinks! Take a tip from the alchemist in spinningfields there range is fantastic! We settled for a diet coke and a coffee! The barman could of suggested other drinks, but sadly didnt! We chose to play pool and were given a voucher for a free hour, this was much appreciated!The pool tables are sadly filthy with no markings on them. But they are a great idea as there are not many pubs that have them anymore and its something we really enjoy! All four tables were in use so they draw the customers in!We will return but hope they have the drinks we request next time! And improve the customer service, us women like to be served well and it can make the difference as to whether we return or not!!

As pub food prices go in Manchester this is really good value. There is a good choice of American style food. The sandwiches and wraps are very nice and you have a choice of chips or salad, the food is always hot. The outside BBQ is great offering kebabs and burgers.The service is fast but you never seem to get served by the same person throughout your meal. The pool area of the bar is very dark at lunch so we always eat on the terrace which is bright.Its a shame it is hidden away down a side road but well worth a visit.

I loved the Black Dog Ballroom in the Northern Quarter and was equally happy going to the new one that has opened recently on New Wakefield Street. They have some of the best pool tables in Manchester and the atmosphere is really nice. The staff are quite chatty and easy to get along with. The food is New York speakeasy cuisine and surprisingly good for a bar. The hotdogs and burgers are really tasty. They aren't inexpensive but they are affordable. For an easy bite and a comprehensive drink list it's probably one of the best bars in Manchester.

I went with a friend for the first time on friday evening for a few drinks.The staff were very friendly and fast, recommended drinks with a good knowledge. I ordered a Gin & Tonic with extra limes, and a wedge of fresh orange was recommended along with this, which was beautiful, and not something that has been recommended to me before.The bar has a fantastic interior, with lots of seats and tables.The outside area is also beautiful.Would defiantly go back, and would recommend the place.It might be one of my haunts in Manchester.

Personally, my burger with bluecheese and crispy bacon was superb. Buger was grilled to perfection, just a bit crispy and chewy on the outside - succulent within. Bluecheese twang. Great relish. Fries were ok, but the JD BBQ sauce was a divine creosote of goodness - thick, black and powerful. No KFC rubbish here.However, dont order a cheap Pizza! A thin biscuit was served up to friends, which appeared to have been grilled rather than baked. Lacklustre Jalapenos adorned the barely cheese and tomato covered frizbee of pastry. Instantly cold, and lacking any substance. Fair enough, it was under £3 but the bog standard take-aways on Oxford Road can do far better for 2.Even though the order was prebooked, there was much confusion regarding dishes. Out of a party of 8, 4 orders had to be sent back. Thankfully the waiters were great, and very pleasant and there wasnt any quibble. Shame this couldnt have been organised better before hand though.Venue looks great, very swish. However, we were seated in a sunny corner on the terrace on a very hot day without breeze. Even though the doors to the terrace were open, we were still in desperate need of a fan or air-con, but none were apparent.
