It was our first visit to this tea room. The staff were friendly and helpful. I had a piece of (vegan) black current tart and it was delicious. We sat outside in the sun and I could of sat there all day. The tea room is not a vegan or vegetarian one but does provide plenty of options for a vegan, vegetarian or someone who is gluten free. Will be definitely returning and hopefully having lunch.

Last year I visited 65 different cafes. So far I have managed 48 this year. This one is the BEST. It was so well presented that I assumed that it was newly opened but learnt they had made use of Lockdown time. I got a fabulous bacon and egg sandwich with home made bread and chilli jam. They clearly know their local customers. I called in as I travelled from Cornwall to Hampshire. I would love this to be my local but I live in Newcastle but I will be back if I pass near by in the future. Thank you !

You know when you're having a bad week and you visit a dear friend? You chat, and eat a meal cooked with love, and leave feeling a hundred times better? We bookended our trip to Lyme with a visit to the tearooms; sitting in the lovely garden chatting to the friendly owners and eating a cream tea seemed the perfect start, and end, to our week. We were looking forward to a really relaxing tea, sandwich and delicious piece of cake, however, the clear lack of staff and stress shown by the owners, somewhat spoilt the experience. The attitude towards “The Public” (as described by the owner)was appalling . Maybe, they need to look at the signage to help “The Public”follow the process they have put in place. I actually felt genuinely sorry for an elderly couple who turned up in the garden, whilst we were drinking our tea, to be greeted by sarcastic remarks about there being a booking system, of which they knew nothing, as they had entered by the side gate, next to the car park, which appears to be the logical point of entry (and the gate was wide open). The owners need to make it clearer at this point or ensure that the gate is locked so that potential customers make there way to the front door. An A sign visible from the road stating that booking is required and a telephone number would also help. It is clear that two people running the cafe during good weather, where at present people prefer to be outside in a beautiful garden, does not work. Tables were full of dirty plates and it took an incredibly long time for both food and drinks to arrive. It is such a shame, the food is amazing, fresh well presented, extensive menu, excellent quality and an incredible setting. Their attitude to the public leaves a lot to be desired!

The food was delicious but was it worth waiting 50 minutes for some sandwiches and cheese on toast? We planned to make a quick pit stop at the black dog tea rooms enroute to our hotel in Lyme Regis and was shown to an alfresco seating area in a beautiful country garden. The lady serving us did her best but seemed a bit overwhelmed and stressed with people walking in and out her way to use the toilets or read the menu. We understand that with Covid restrictions there are going to be some teething issues however our tray of teas were quite literally slammed on the table without asking if we wanted any sugar or extra milk, and our sandwiches arrived to the table one by one. We were hoping to try some of the cake however as we sat for a further 20 minutes without having our plates cleared we decided to up and go. An extra pair of hands would have helped perhaps?

Food is very nice, everything is home made or comes from local producers. Prices are a little haphazard for example the massive bacon sandwich my son had was very good value, whereas my chorizo salad was probably priced at upper end of reasonable. That's not to say the food is expensive, it represents good value for the quality you get. Service is very friendly and atmosphere relaxed. We did the inevitable River Walk on a wet February morning and plodded up the main road in Uplyme to find The Black Dog Tearoom. It was about the only place open on a Monday: Lyme really shuts down in the off season. So we approached the building on the roadside with a mixture of gratitude and concern that the only place open would not necessarily be the best. But we were delighted to walk into an elegant, warm, bright and clean cafe. And we agree that the scones were the best ever - especially my cinnamon and cranberry one.Friendly owners, who gave us tips to find a more scenic route back to the river.A very happy experience. We were passing on our way into Lyme Regis and spotted the tea rooms so decided to pull over. I have to say it was a very fortunate impulse. I'm gluten intolerant and a veggie so find I'm quite hard to cater for. Not at the Black Dog! I had a bean burger in a gluten free bun and my companion had a regular bun. We were both extremely impressed. The bread was delicious and the bean burger was a perfect blend aromatic spices and herbs but without being hot on the tongue. It did not suffer from the dryness or mush of some bean burgers. The presentation was extremely attractive with a side salad I would have been happy to eat on it's own. Having enjoyed these with a pot of Assam tea, chosen from the many on offer, we decided to finish our meal with something sweet. I was offered a choice of 4 different GF cakes. Quite a luxury! We chose to share a slice of coffee and walnut which was so light I could barely believe It was GF. Service was great and we had a lovely chat too. We will definitely return.

I loved it here. My g'friend and I visited specifically based upon all the reviews and we have to say; they were accurate! Sandwiches, mine was Brie and Bacon, was presented excellently, and tasted lovely. All the way from the location to the seating area and the garden were perfect. A great little tea room and just the ticket if you want attentive, warm, friendly staff and environment and tasty food. A must!!!!

Popped in on our way past and was very pleased with friendly service, great home made food and nice view (from summer house). Kids very happy with home made pizza and beans on toast, my wife and I both had the Welsh rarebit and it was fantastic. Followed up by some smashing sponge. Will likely stop in here again.

Take the River Lim Path from Lyme Regis and half way along a diversion is suggested that takes you to the Black Dog Tea Room. Take It! We did on the way back. The food is all prepared by themselves and as one of us is Coeliac finding the Gluten Free coffee cake was a joy. It was just the best GF coffee cake. Had a good chat with the owner re cooking gluten free as well. The normal Victoria Sponge was also awesome so a gluten free version next time please. As you approach from the walk there is a final gate and then it is not obvious whether to walk up the lane or the footpath opposite; the best route is to use the footpath.

This place is lovely. Light and airy and the most delicious home cooked food, including all the bakery products! Clearly a labour of love. The coffee was amazing, despite being a tea room and our dogs were made very welcome.

My husband and I popped in with our dog on a mid Monday morning having stayed in the area over the weekend. We received a lovely warm welcome from Sonia who fussed our dog Bones the whole time we were there (we actually got to eat our lovely breakfast in peace!).

This is my second review and the place is heart warming to say the least. Extremely clean and the food and coffee is second to none. Roddy and Sonia relentlessly provide warm, welcoming and efficient service. Coffee excellent and the best scone I've ever tasted. Lovely returning locals. Great selection of teas and accessories to buy. Also prices are excellent for area. I have recommended here to people I see on rambles in the area...also it is open all week apart from Wednesday. Very, very feel good place and perfectly run. Beautiful...

We stayed at the Black Dog and had read of the wonders of the tea room - and were not disappointed! Wonderful cheese scones, plain scones and fruit scones baked by Rod, wonderful relaxed and professional service from Rod and Sonia, and brilliant insight on range of teas! all superb and thoroughly recommended.

Visited while in holiday. Very dog friendly, offering water and treats and understanding of our mad Collie! The home made rolls and scones were really tasty too. Thank you. Would definitely recommend.

Wonderful home made bread and locally sourced ingredients made this a really superb lunch. Hosts were charming, decor very relaxing and parking plentiful. Home blend tea reminded me what real tea tastes like so bought some for home

Popped in late in the day, really lovely scones (warmed) and really enjoyed. I can understand some of the comments made about the welcome, as we experienced this a little with lady saying she still hadn’t had her lunch and she’d had a rush on, but brushed it off, I think it’s her way of speaking. Also, no sugar delivered with tea and coffee. Friendly place overall and dog friendly.

If you're looking for somewhere to have a cream tea in Lyme then this is the one. Lucious scones, jam and clotted cream. Friendly service. Light and airy tea room with a summer house for much needed shade overlooking a pretty garden and rambling hills in the distance. A fantastic find and well recommended.

Pre-booked as there were 10 of us. Rod was very helpful when booking, describing what he could prepare for us. Nearly everything is sourced locally and Rod does all the baking fresh each day. Not being great fans of fancy cakes I chose cheese, ham, rolls and "higgidy"? pie - a type of cheese and leak quiche, followed by scones with jam and cream. Good choice of loose leaf tea which they also sell under their own name. We sat in the garden and had a most enjoyable and relaxing time.
