Great Family pub lovley atmosphere, with amazing staff and fab food half price Thursday meals are a total must the standard of the food is amazing, and Tracie on of the cook is renowned for her Cheesy Garlic Bread. There is a large function area used for parties wedding receptions and wakes meetings and weekly soft play for the tots. Weekly Bingo on Sunday Evenings and Wednesday lunchtimes are great fun and you will be warmly welcomed. Rachel and the staff are friendly helpful and Considerate. Pool tables, garden area with play stuff for kiddies. This pub really does cater for all and you will be made most welcome

We popped by on the off chance as were visiting relatives in the area. We both had a ploughman’s and chips plus soft drink. It was served beautifully on a board, it was really tasty, and so filling. Really friendly staff. I’d have no problem returning if we are in the area again.

The Black bull is, in my opinion, a very typical English pub. The atmosphere is welcoming and comfortable and the greeting was very friendly. I was there to have a bite to eat and pass an hour or two whilst waiting for a later appointment. For a pub, the menu is extensive and I opted for a BBQ burger. The burger was quite honestly one of the best I have had in this country. Perfectly cooked with cheese, bacon, onion rings and a barbecue sauce. The accompanying salad and chips were perfect. Altogether an offering that makes some very familiar names fade into obscurity! A special mention to Josie who produced the masterpiece! Very well done Black Bull!

hi , we rented the function room yesterday for my mothers wake, they laid on a buffet at a very fair price, there was plenty enough food, everyone was happy and well fed, It seemed a friendly pub not far from the crematorium. i don't think they even charged us for the function room which has its own bar, they played some fitting music and also did a memory table for us with candles to puts photos and bits on, no complaints what so ever, many thanks to the polite and helpful staff, also very good communication,

We moved to Chelmsford a few months ago but unfortunately recently lost my mother in law. We booked to have the wake here and I must say that they were so lovely and friendly. Tamsin and the other staff were amazing 👏 and I can't thank them enough for such a lovely day. Thank you all ❤️

Three members of staff were sat on barstools behind bar. Bars both sides were covered with used dirty glasses and empty screwed up crisp packets. Non of the staff greeted me or asked me what I wanted. Stood there for about 15 minutes. I only got served after enquiring if last orders had been called. His is a wonderful local pub. It is a great place for families..and has an area for children to play in. The food is always good.

A fairly unspectacular piece freeing from this pub. Not much of a welcome. No real effort. Food delivered to my table. Had to get my own cutlery and condiments. Tables generally dirty. Food was okay. Not totally worth the money I paid for it. Absolutely no engagement or effort to make me ever want to return. Nothing charming at all. I’m sure perhaps at other times this place may be warm and welcoming but on this occasion it was a bit grim and totally underwhelming.

My friends and family organised a surprise 40th party for me in the function room at the Black Bull and it was an amazing night. I cannot praise the staff enough for all they did - the lights, the decorations, the food! They were so friendly and welcoming and did everything they could to ensure that myself and all my guests had the best night. I cannot recommend the Black Bull highly enough - they have everything you need for a party and I would definitely use them again. Thank you so much!

The Black Bull in Chelmsford is always a wonderful place to visit, whether it's for a drink a meal, a social evening ..sport or family entertainment. Service is always excellent and access is easy.

Lovely food and lots of drink offers specially as a gin liver there's lots of choice. The staff always are friendly and chatty. Also been to a few parties here and they've always done amazing.

I like to start by saying what a great family run public house. The landlady is very friendly and helpful and what a lovely family she has. Very pleasent atmosphere and beautiful garden with a play area for children. They also do lovely meals which i was told they did half price meals on thursdays. Which we will try. They have lots of activites such as bingo on sunday and wed mormings. Also have a venue which you can book free of charge for partys etc also do buffets. One to keep in mind. Will be going back with my family and friends. Nice to see there are still family friendly public houses about

went here for lunch 17th June sat in garden food was not brilliant but then a so called wake turned up supposedly paying there respects god knows how they behave when not being respectful most of the male stripped to the waist to show there belly and tattoos they spent rest of afternoon getting very drunk shouting swearing and smoking so much drugs the whole garden which had a load of children in it smelt like a drug den. Staff completely ignored the illegal drug use and swearing despite the number of children there. My recommendation is steer well clear of this place

I wanted to support my local pub but when I asked for two high chairs they were absolutely filthy with one strap not working so my friend had to leave with her two upset unfed babies. Plus as a group we received very un-friendly looks from the patrons whenever the babies cried.

what a let down... from the exterior....... needs a good tidy. Food ok not fresh shame as it is a great location. Even as a smoker myself the fumes from e cigs at bar a real put off.

Es justo en la calle de nosotros y es una casa a medio camino si nos apetece una pinta en el camino a casa de compras. Hemos comido aquí varias veces, y es bueno, honesto, comida de pub preparado. Y un montón de. No hay nada pretencioso- es la comida que su madre sin cocinar y excelente relación calidad-precio. Me gusta especialmente la lasaña que viene con un montón de ensaladas y patatas fritas.

Fuimos allí para el almuerzo de domingo. El personal era muy agradable. Cena asada tenía muy generosa porción de carne. verduras sirvieron plena con ninguna guarnición/mantequilla que les parecen poco apetecible. Siempre pop al menos un Spring de perejil con ellos! Patatas estaban un poco difícil también. La decoración necesita una renovación.

Cuando alguien menciona ir al pub es donde vamos, a pesar de que no es la más cercana a nosotros. Se aceptan perros, tiene una diana y dos mesas de billar, un jardín de cerveza tamaño razonable, y el personal es amable. Hay un aparcamiento a la parte de delante y en los laterales si tienes que ir en coche, aunque es bastante estrecha. También se puede aparcar en la calle a la izquierda ya que está justo al lado del jardín de la cerveza así que no te cortes el espacio de cualquiera que fuera de su casa. No puedo comentar sobre la comida, ya que sólo he vaya aquí para tomar unas copas.

Primera visita a el Black Bull con amigos que han visitado antes. Es un cómodo bar con un ambiente muy agradable. Así como la gama habitual de bebidas que sirve un capuchino y sabroso café negro bastante decente. Definitivamente volveremos por una de sus noches de concurso o noches mic abiertas.

Estuvimos aquí para el almuerzo en el camino de Colchester. Aunque estaba muy ocupado con 2 partes de almuerzo de Navidad, nos dieron una bienvenida cálida y cuidado.

I regularly come here to play darts with friends . I love the fact it's a down to earth pub that has a murmur of atmosphere but never too raucous. Good staff , quick service and good fun. Exactly what you want for a night of darts and giggles.

Went for a drink and a meal and was given one of the best Lasagne's I've ever had. Great place and family friendly with a bouncy castle in the garden.

Pooped in for a swift drink after attending a beer festival opposite at Rainsford Park. A few people in eating. Barmaid was friendly and a nice pint of Woodfordes Wherry was consumed. 7/10
