Black Bull in Shepway

We were very pleased to come across The Black Bull at Folkestone. We've always been big fans of Hungry Horse Pubs, and it was a big surprise to find out there was one in one of our favourite towns. The service, food and general atmosphere were all very good. I opted for a Lamb Keema Stack, which was new to the menu and in true Hungry Horse fashion was quite a marvolous mini mountain of food, it contained a mouthwatering mix of Fries, Samosas, Poppadoms and Lamb Keema Curry!! It was all washed down with a pint or two of San Miguel...very nice!! The staff were all very friendly and the food and drink which was ordered using their app was all brought out promptly. I would definitely recommend this pub and we will definitely come back in the future when we are in the area.

Just to thank the The Black Bull Pub (Folkestone) for the outstanding Service/Buffet provided after my Brothers Funeral on 23/5/25. The seating area was very clean the sevice was excellent and the Buffet prepared By the Chef and his Team was Superb !! (every one has complemented the Quality and quality of the Buffet) "A BIG SHOUT OUT" to WENDY !! for arranging everything so thank you everyone.

Always a pleasant experience coming to The Black Bull but we would like to thank Stacey in particular for going out of her way to find us a table as the pub was extremely busy. As regular customers, Stacey is always so cheerful and welcoming when we see her. Despite how busy it was the food and service was great. Thank you and see you soon.

Hungry Horse menu. The food was hot and looked appetising. Tasted really good, we used the mix it menu, and had half a chicken. The staff were friendly and welcoming even though the place was busy Will definitely be returning to try something else. Good value for money.

Was looking for somewhere to eat on way home from margate. Saw this on my google maps so thought we would try it. Completely forgot it was a Sunday and bank Holiday weekend it was busy and there was Reserved signs on tables. Was approached by a member of staff and we asked if they had any tables free. We were really lucky and managed to get a table straight away. Staff were really friendly food was amazing and hot. Would definitely recommend. We felt very welcomed and comfortable

Manager was very unwelcoming. The pub was very clicky with lots of children running around without an adult supervising them!

Came in for a quick drink during the week. Never again! First impression was premises was lovely. However stood at the bar waiting to be served. 2 people behind the counter. Tall bald guy with tats was serving someone already and another lady sam/sue according to name tag cant remember exactly. The lady was too busy chatting and telling all her life details to some other poor punter. Lady could see I was waiting but just carried on with the sordid details of her personal life. Over heard her being asked to serve me when she finally did huffing and puffing I felt like i had completely put her out and that she'd rather be somewhere else. Won't be visiting again!

We have been attending this particular pub for a few years now, and the service and food is always excellent - our most recent server was Donna, who was very kind and patient. Our food and drinks were delivered quite quickly and everything was to our satisfaction! Will always recommend.

The food was delicious and we definitely went on the right day with BOGOF on burgers! £20 for two pints and two burgers. We waited quiet sometime for service and then was seated in a very loud and high traffic area. After switching tables the atmosphere improved but overall wasn't great.

Went in for dinner with my grandchildren and there were a few problems with the food coming, but the manager sorted everything so quickly and when the food did come it was absolutely gorgeous. The waiting staff were so friendly and apologetic. Perfectly sorted. Well done to all the staff

Food wasn't up to par. The steak weren't cooked to what I asked for and also because I didn't want the bed of onions and peppers that meant my steak wouldn't come out on the sizzling plate! Peas tasted mouldy. Wasn't the best sorry! Service was great though, very welcoming and friendly, well 2 of the ladies anyway. Donna was very sweet, checking if everything was OK with the food and making sure we had everything that we needed

Food good and staff friendly a bit of a confusion over ordering a dinner we were told was unavailable was ordered and arrived anyway but a instant refund was made. Service a bit slow at times though they were busy. Severe lack of choice for anyone with a Gluten or wheat allergy. Sometimes patrons of the bar could be quite loud. Generally not a bad experience

I come to the Black Bull on a regular basis as I am always drawn back by the happy and welcoming staff as well as the reasonably priced, good quality food. They assisted me in a large Xmas booking back in December during a hard time for my colleagues and I as we were going through administration; they catered to all of our needs and ensured our experience was top tier! Sue is wonderful and very friendly, always smiles and greets me when I come in!

Visit regularly, the staff are always great and super friendly. The atmosphere is always good and the food is excellent.

This place is a joke my daughter wanted to go out for a meal my wife was going here the following day with her friends nothing changed the following day. The 4 of us went out and they manged after we ordered and paid 56 pound for our meals to mess up 3 meals wife's was wrong type of meal mine had a different item I didn't order and youngest daughter had some curry spice powder over her plain chips she wanted with her meal. My eldest daughters meal was over cooked and she could only eat the few chips and inside of what she ordered. Waitress couldn't care trying to tell us that's what we ordered and did nothing the manager was the same. I bought this up with her too after our meals when we were leaving. All that was suggested was you should have said something we did to the waitress who never came back. The following day wife did not even get her meal at all when the rest of the party did and when it cane it was rubbish. Wouldn't use here again we only visited as I was to tired after work to use the wheatsheaf over ramsgate which is much better rarely have any trouble there.
