Service was good food was excellent staff were polite and knowledgeable

Nice enough, main food wasn't my favourite, a pasta dish and a little bland, but the burgers and chips my friends had looked amazing and the brownie and similar puddings looked decadent. The pub area looked nice and decent parking but you have to park strategically to exit so just bare this in mind.

Came by yesterday with my husband. Stood at the bar and few minutes whilst the girl finished her conversation with her friend on the phone then relayed it all to the other girl who had now come behind the bar... eventually we were served. A while later we decided to have one more before heading home. The second girl (younger, dark hair) was stocking the fridge behind the bar (fair enough) my husband waited, she stood up, saw my husband waiting, collected something the sat back down on the floor. Obviously we left... horrendous service!! Probably won't bother going again. Had a very pleasant drink at the eagle with very friendly staff willing to serve!!

Good local pub serving tasty quality food. The service was efficient and friendly. The restaurant area is away from the main pub bar and is more for family dining rather than intimate meals for two.

Just had a gorgous evening meal here. Starters & main course ( no room for dessert) we both enjoyed the food and the pub is lovely. The staff are very welcoming, service very good. Tbankyou we will definetly be back 😁

Have been regularly, very pleased with food etc. However on Sunday 9th family of 7, having pre ordered food choices, on arrival 6 out of 7 meals arrived, before we ordered drinks. We had to wait for drinks and quite a while for the 7th meal. We will go again but was disappointed with service on this occasion.

Great pub, food was outstanding and very reasonably priced. Stumbled across it while away on motorhome, dogs welcome. Will definitely be back.

First time visiting here tonight and oh wow wow wow this is a beautiful pub with a lovely warm welcoming atmosphere and the staff are all wonderful , me and my partner had a burger with fries and coleslaw and I bit into the chips , the home made delicious proper comfort chips just like my Nana used to make me when I was a child to cheer me up , they were wonderful , the waitress and the bar staff cannot do enough for you , I didn’t have room for a pudding but trust me I be going back there as often as I can , so please give this place a try you won’t be disappointed

My favourite place to eat. Good music, atmosphere and good people. Dining area separate from the bar. Two outdoor seating areas, front & back. Friendly dogs welcome. Look forward to my next visit.

Lovely food for Sunday lunch. Well worth a visit.

Would of been 5* but it was our first visit here we had a lovely meal the roasts are really tasty! The staff were really friendly just one downside is one of your "younger male locals" who obviously thinks he owns the pub stood up to my partner whislt he came back from the loo to say that he wasn't welcome here and to meet outside for a "chat".. This isn't acceptable when all we wanted was a nice family meal out before Christmas.

Fabulous country pub with hearty home cooked food which is plentiful and tasty. By far one of the best pub meals we have ever had! Sticky toffee pudding is out of this world! Staff are lovely and made us all feel very welcome, including our dog. Highly recommended.

If your not local I wouldn't recommend goin here. The locals look at you when you walk in like you've got 2 heads.

Both of my grandparents had their farewell services here, and my partner—who is a man of colour—now works at this fantastic family-run pub and restaurant. The Black Boy is truly a remarkable spot, serving outstanding food that never disappoints. The staff go above and beyond to make everyone feel welcome, and they genuinely care about your experience. It breaks my heart to see negative comments from those who clearly haven’t taken the time to appreciate what this place has to offer. I’d leave zero stars if I could. The shame of this place, the way a young woman was treated by other customers and then to be treated so poorly by the staff is absolutely shocking. Apparently having a phone conversation with family and from what I could hear sounded very exciting is not allowed? Didn’t realise pubs had a no talking rule. My heart broke to watch this happen to a young lady then for staff to turn around and say “you have a chip on your shoulder” wow appalling and I also noticed they turned the WiFi off (if your in this area you’ll know it’s hard for signal so WiFi helps phone and do work) turning it off so this woman was without being able to even use her phone. Shameful. In a world with so much hardship and pain be kind.

There was an appalling incident in this pub where a young lady was treated with blatant disrespect. Despite her attempts to engage politely with the staff, she was met with dismissive attitudes and condescending remarks. It was clear that she was singled out, as other customers were treated far more respectfully. This behaviour not only reflected a lack of professionalism but also highlighted deeper issues of racial bias. Based on the disrespectful treatment of the young lady that happened today, I cannot recommend this pub. The owners' behavior was unprofessional and revealed a concerning lack of respect and inclusivity. It’s disheartening to see such attitudes in a public space. There are many other establishments that prioritize respect and equality, and I encourage people to seek those out instead.

For a family gathering we picked on the map a central meeting point - and the Black Boy Inn was in the chosen location. What a great place we picked by accident. Good atmosphere with smart resturant area and wide selection of bar drinks. The meals were very good, with a choice of roast diners and typical pub meals. They were good value for money, large portions, and exceptionally tasty. Friendly staff that made us feel welcome, and certainly we will be back for another family get together.

Seven of us for a family meal and we all really enjoyed our visit, will definitely go again.

I went for a Sunday Roast dinner here after visiting a few times previously and smelling the food.. it honestly didn't disappoint! lts lovely home cooked, hearty food! Me and my partner had a large Roast with added cauliflower cheese, the Yorkshire puddings are huge and delicious! We struggled to finish it but couldn't leave it as it was so beautiful! We will definitely be coming again and will recommend to all our friends and family.. Thank you 🫶🏼

Pie I had was like dark brown and hard chips nice so was cheese cake did not say anything on day as it was a birthday lunch.

As you enter the pub there is a lively bar area. We decided to eat at the pub and was totally unaware that there was a separate dining area. It was lovely place with a nice ambience, which we much preferred. Having said that it is still possible to dine in the bar area if that is your preference. I would recommend eating here.

Been a few times now on a Sunday. The best Sunday lunch we've had. Called in Monday as a stop off on my walk from Ripley to meet my son for lunch. Same again, beautiful food. Staff are lovely. Can't fault anything.

Lovely pub, we went on a Monday night and it was nicely busy. Jacket potatoes were huge and delicious and the desserts were even yummier! Would definitely go back.

A warm welcome in a cosy and smart place. The food's a cut above and the sun terrace is great.

Booked last minute on Easter Saturday, there was space available downstairs. Service is good, staff very friendly and helpful. Food was excellent. I had pan cooked chicken in a creamy cheese sauce, was great and very filling. My husband had gammon which he really enjoyed. Will definitely go again, hopefully next time we will be able to try the pudding.

ARRIVED MIDDAY GREETED WITH A LOVELY WARM WELCOME, HAD A COFFEE BEFORE DEPARTING ON THE WALK, LATE AFTERNOON MEAL WAS VERY WELL COOKED AND MOST WELCOME AFTER A HEARTY 6 MILE WALK;. THE PUB HAD A LOVELY WARM AMBIANCE AND ALL STAFF VERY FRIENDLY. THE PUB HAVE A VERY WELL FURNISH LARGE DISSABLED FACILITIES, I HAVE A STOMA BAG AND IT WAS VERY HELPFUL TO SEE A FLOOR STANDING MIRROR TO HELP WITH PREPARING FOR A CHANGE. We had superb service and superb food! Best hand cut chips ever, crisp on the outside and soft on the inside! Roast lamb, ploughman's, fish n chips & roast lamb were all devine. Highly recommend. Thanks for a lovely lunch!

We celebrated our sons 21st birthday at the black boy and they catered for our party of 12 perfectly. Alfie our waiter was so lovely and on the ball, everything came out piping hot and delicious. We ate every bit.

We left with happy belly...everything seamed to be homemade, chips, coleslaw even I'd say mayo in coleslaw... atmosphere was okay 🙃.... Happy to find this place, if will go around definitely stop for another visit 😊

Just had a wonderful Sunday lunch here, huge amount of meat with all the trimmings and bowls of fresh veggies. The desserts were lovely and good portion sizes too. Staff were friendly and attentive, can't fault them at all, will definitely return. Very reasonably priced too.

We were a party of ten, so they asked us to pre-order, which wasn't a problem . The food was absolutely fantastic, I can't praise it enough. None of us left anything. It turned out they were a chef down, but you would never have guessed it. I had three courses but two would have been plenty.

Visited for Sunday lunch. Food is well presented and the meat was lovely and tender, vegetables well cooked and a lovely variety.

Came here for a special birthday meal on a midweek. There were 7 in our party of differing ages and abilities. The table had been booked and seating was perfect we were greeted warmly on arrival. The food was beautiful I highly recommend the pie all hot and home cooks with fresh ingredients. A special mention to the waitress who served us - sue for the additional time and consideration given to our daughter who has ASD, nothing was too much trouble and as such we where able to enjoy a family meal together.

Lovely Christmas meal with my workmates. Plenty of food; gorgeous meat, plenty of vegetables but not overloaded. Proper food. Christmas pudding was real, not the spongey type but a gorgeous, moist fruity creation, topped with a delicious brandy sauce. Absolutely lovely meal. And with other diners also enjoying themselves, the atmosphere was lively and relaxed. Service was efficient and friendly. I'll be returning.

Visited for Sunday lunch 9of us , we had table for 8 plus small table behind us someone was already sat on the table behind ?so 9th person had to sit alone he wasn't given any vegetables when he asked waitress told him to get up and get them off our table ! Food was good when it arrived, Didn't ask if we wanted any sauces until after we had finished meal .! Ordered dessert thought they had forgotten about us it took that long . Went in bar to pay long que only one serving Nowhere to sit after in pub to have a drink People where eating meals at pub tables even though half dining room was empty . Wouldn't book again because of very poor service .

Happened upon this place by chance and popped in for an early lunch. Sat in the downstairs, recently refurbished restaurant and it was lovely. A very pleasant area and the food was excellent. Service was great as well. The young lady serving us was polite, attentive and accommodating when we deviated slightly from a menu item. From our experience, highly recommended!

Wonderful family owned free house. Very pleasant and attentive staff. Well stocked bar. Well priced food served in pleasant restaurant. Best to make a booking as it is a very popular place. Made a return visit, just as enjoyable this time. Will be making a another visit next time we are in the area.

Brilliant fresh food with really friendly service.

Wouldn't pick the Sunday dinner. I ordered lamb shank, I got sliced lamb. Small bowl of pre-cooked microwaved veg all stuck together. Roasts were all pre-booked. The only thing that actually tasted fresh was the Yorkshire pud. Would I eat there again, most likely not.
