Pie I had was like dark brown and hard chips nice so was cheese cake did not say anything on day as it was a birthday lunch.

Very nice food. Visited on way back from Heage Windmill.

Lovely pub grub. Well worth a visit.

As you enter the pub there is a lively bar area. We decided to eat at the pub and was totally unaware that there was a separate dining area. It was lovely place with a nice ambience, which we much preferred. Having said that it is still possible to dine in the bar area if that is your preference. I would recommend eating here.

Been a few times now on a Sunday. The best Sunday lunch we've had. Called in Monday as a stop off on my walk from Ripley to meet my son for lunch. Same again, beautiful food. Staff are lovely. Can't fault anything.

Great pub - we ate there twice during our weekend visit to the area. Food was very tasty and good range of choices on the menu. Reasonably priced too.

Lovely pub, we went on a Monday night and it was nicely busy. Jacket potatoes were huge and delicious and the desserts were even yummier! Would definitely go back.

Booked last minute on Easter Saturday, there was space available downstairs. Service is good, staff very friendly and helpful. Food was excellent. I had pan cooked chicken in a creamy cheese sauce, was great and very filling. My husband had gammon which he really enjoyed. Will definitely go again, hopefully next time we will be able to try the pudding.

ARRIVED MIDDAY GREETED WITH A LOVELY WARM WELCOME, HAD A COFFEE BEFORE DEPARTING ON THE WALK, LATE AFTERNOON MEAL WAS VERY WELL COOKED AND MOST WELCOME AFTER A HEARTY 6 MILE WALK;. THE PUB HAD A LOVELY WARM AMBIANCE AND ALL STAFF VERY FRIENDLY. THE PUB HAVE A VERY WELL FURNISH LARGE DISSABLED FACILITIES, I HAVE A STOMA BAG AND IT WAS VERY HELPFUL TO SEE A FLOOR STANDING MIRROR TO HELP WITH PREPARING FOR A CHANGE. WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE BLACK BOY YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED. MANY THANKS FOR A WONDERFUL DAY, SEE YOU SOON.

We had superb service and superb food! Best hand cut chips ever, crisp on the outside and soft on the inside! Roast lamb, ploughman's, fish n chips & roast lamb were all devine. Highly recommend. Thanks for a lovely lunch!

We celebrated our sons 21st birthday at the black boy and they catered for our party of 12 perfectly. Alfie our waiter was so lovely and on the ball, everything came out piping hot and delicious. We ate every bit.

We left with happy belly...everything seamed to be homemade, chips, coleslaw even I'd say mayo in coleslaw... atmosphere was okay 🙃.... Happy to find this place, if will go around definitely stop for another visit 😊

Just had a wonderful Sunday lunch here, huge amount of meat with all the trimmings and bowls of fresh veggies. The desserts were lovely and good portion sizes too. Staff were friendly and attentive, can't fault them at all, will definitely return. Very reasonably priced too.

We were a party of ten, so they asked us to pre-order, which wasn't a problem . The food was absolutely fantastic, I can't praise it enough. None of us left anything. It turned out they were a chef down, but you would never have guessed it. I had three courses but two would have been plenty.

Came here for a special birthday meal on a midweek. There were 7 in our party of differing ages and abilities. The table had been booked and seating was perfect we were greeted warmly on arrival. The food was beautiful I highly recommend the pie all hot and home cooks with fresh ingredients. A special mention to the waitress who served us - sue for the additional time and consideration given to our daughter who has ASD, nothing was too much trouble and as such we where able to enjoy a family meal together.

Absolutely perfect... warming atmosphere and brilliant service.

Lovely Christmas meal with my workmates. Plenty of food; gorgeous meat, plenty of vegetables but not overloaded. Proper food. Christmas pudding was real, not the spongey type but a gorgeous, moist fruity creation, topped with a delicious brandy sauce. Absolutely lovely meal. And with other diners also enjoying themselves, the atmosphere was lively and relaxed. Service was efficient and friendly. I'll be returning.

Christmas menu was phenomenal. The food was absolutely amazing, great portions and really tasty! Went for the 3 course menu but probably should have done 2 because I needed a nap after the three. Would highly recommend to anyone and everyone!!

Visited for Sunday lunch 9of us , we had table for 8 plus small table behind us someone was already sat on the table behind ?so 9th person had to sit alone he wasn't given any vegetables when he asked waitress told him to get up and get them off our table ! Food was good when it arrived, Didn't ask if we wanted any sauces until after we had finished meal .! Ordered dessert thought they had forgotten about us it took that long . Went in bar to pay long que only one serving Nowhere to sit after in pub to have a drink People where eating meals at pub tables even though half dining room was empty . Wouldn't book again because of very poor service .

Had a really nice Mushroom Tagliatelli, and nice pint, here. Staff were genuinely friendly and welcoming.

A cracking pork and stuffing baguette with gravy plus apple sauce, it went down a treat.

The roast dinner looted good but it was cold I would go there again but not for a roast dinner.

Happened upon this place by chance and popped in for an early lunch. Sat in the downstairs, recently refurbished restaurant and it was lovely. A very pleasant area and the food was excellent. Service was great as well. The young lady serving us was polite, attentive and accommodating when we deviated slightly from a menu item. From our experience, highly recommended!

We had a lovely Sunday lunch today , the food was delicious and the service very friendly. Had a takeaway lunch for my husband who was working he’s just finished it ! Really enjoyed it . No cooking for me 😊 win win . Thankyou to the chef and staff 🤗

Wonderful family owned free house. Very pleasant and attentive staff. Well stocked bar. Well priced food served in pleasant restaurant. Best to make a booking as it is a very popular place. Made a return visit, just as enjoyable this time. Will be making a another visit next time we are in the area.

Brilliant fresh food with really friendly service.

Wouldn't pick the Sunday dinner. I ordered lamb shank, I got sliced lamb. Small bowl of pre-cooked microwaved veg all stuck together. Roasts were all pre-booked. The only thing that actually tasted fresh was the Yorkshire pud. Would I eat there again, most likely not.

Went here today for a meal with the mother. we both ordered the blue one burger, first off, I noticed the lack of blue cheese? (No biggie) Half way through eating my burger i noticed the bottom bread bun was significantly moldy, I'd already eaten into the mold, mold was deep into the bun and at least 50p pence in size wish i had took a photo, was offered my meal for free but as my mum stopped eating hers due to mine being moldy i had to insist that i wouldnt be paying for either and just the drinks... landlady said that she didnt look at the mold on my meal her self (like she couldn't be bothered) and that it was likely due to it being stored in the warmth... check your bread and store it in a cool environment such a shame as expected better from a well reviewed pub

Very clean,good service.£11.75 for baguette and chips, you used to get the chips with the baguette but it now seems to be the norm to charge for chips and these are £4.50,it was nicely done,but it's not value for money.

Lovely place, warm and welcoming atmosphere, we were greeted as soon as we walked through the door and was offered seating in either the bar or the restaurant, food was served quickly and oozed homemade quality! Fish was beautifully battered with the huge pot of mushy peas which was very welcome! 10/10 will visit again!

Visted for late sunday lunch. Very nice atmosphere, feels very homely. Sat in back of small restaurant area. Starters where very good but two of our party had to wait 10 minutes after everyone else. I had the burger which was okay but the meat was a bit sloppy for me. Burger didnt hold together very well. Desert was however fantastic. However 1 member of our party never got a coffe they ordered which slightly let is down. Service was very slow to say the least. took 40 minutes to get our order in. Once it was in, service was relatively good with food and drinks coming in a pretty good time. Overall, food was goos but service was so-so. However i would come back for another go.

Excellent, we sat on the beautiful terrace out the back and what a sun trap that is. I could have spent all afternoon there. The waitresses where brilliant very quick service and very polite. The food is out of this world. I do and don't want to write a review, I want to praise the pub but I don't want others to know about it. Don't change a thing just keep doing what you are doing 💯👍 I need to add to this review, we went to The Black Boy again last night for my daughters birthday as it is her favourite pub. We only wanted bar snacks but unfortunately they had just had a massive party just turn up and couldn't do any more food because of this. We decided to have a quick drink anyway. Then the (I think) landlord came over and said he would do some food for us. This was fantastic and really made my daughters evening and birthday, she is only 6. The service was brilliant, I cannot praise it enough and the food was fantastic. So again another brilliant customer experience at The Black Boy.

Went for Sunday lunch 4th December. So glad we tried this place after others recommending. We haven't been in this pub for years and its changed so much, for the better I might add. Everything was beautifully cooked and homemade tasting, not processed mass produced. The gravy was proper meat gravy not instant. The roasties where to die for. The meat eaters said it was melt in your mouth, no toughness in sight. Great surroundings and decorated warmly and inviting for Christmas. Would definitely go again and would highly recommend

2nd time in the Black Boy as we are from London and again, absolutely wonderful. Rib eye done to perfection ( one Med rare and one Med Well). Make you feel so welcome and both take the time to have a chat. Highly recommended.

We thought we would stop here for some lunch a drinks - never been here before. So parked up and went in. All seemed rather pleasant. We had just put our drinks on the table when approached by a man (now guessed to be the landlord). “You got a white car?”. Yes I replied. “Can you come move it?” Yes no problem, sorry is it in the way? I expected they had a delivery or something!! “Well, it’s where I park mi van.” A very rude manner. I’d not parked in a marked ‘reserved’ spot or anything untoward. I was just parked in one of the spaces in the car park. No explanation, no please etc. what he should have done was ‘ask’ if I’d mind moving it because his motor home is better placed at the end of the car park spaces. Just plain rude and needless to say, we left and didn’t stay!

Came up from Birmingham to see family for the day and Went here for Sunday lunch with Family I have to say this place is 5🌟 the Food and the Beer 🍺 and the clientele top class never enjoyed a Sunday lunch so much anywhere long May they continue thank you all very much 👍🍺 🥘
