The Black Bear was brilliant! Great building, lovely garden by the river and fantastic staff. My first contact was a really helpful young man who explained the ethos of the pub and welcomed my dog Doolally. Had a great real ale then came back with my wife next day and had brilliant Senegalese food from the pop up restaurant. They have the biggest bbq I’ve ever seen in the garden. Thoroughly recommend!!!

Coffee and service was excellent. The refurbishment of the Black Bear is a real asset to Tewksbury. You can readily choose the relaxing experience that suits your mood or the company you are in, due to the thoughtfully laid out design. Interesting historical references to note as well as a contemporary vibe. We’ve only been for drinks a number of times but definitely want to return for more music and food one evening. Toilets were clean and pleasant too!

The building is very nice and the history has been kept well blended with modern touches. Unusual way of ordering no table menus only one on wall. Given beeper to collect food when ready. No individual condiments, meant to use when collect. However, did allow to take to table on condition returned immediately. No napkins very much self service pub. The food and drink were reasonably priced. Personally we thought chicken had strange taste. Not having a dog would be nice if there were dog free areas. Real flowers on tables which nice touch.

Outstanding service and food blew us away. The bar keep was very knowledgeable about the choice of IPAs and recommended a visit to a local brewery. The Smoky Grill menu is small but perfectly formed with a great chef and kitchen helper. The coriander garnish on the bbq pork ribs was a perfect addition and the lemon dressing on the slaw was sublime. An absolute must is visiting Tewkesbury.

See your bank manager for a overdraft prior to your visit. The prices are through the roof. Pint of larger and a glass of wine £16.00+. Before the recent refurbishment this was my second home along with lots of other mates. Never again! The cosy atmosphere has gone as it is now open plan. No food from the bar. Noisey music and copious quantities of young kids racing around. Good luck with your expensive investment. Andrew McBride

Fantastic place, a really impressive bar area with sympathetic renovations. Gorgeous beer garden with a beautiful view of the river. Most importantly, super lovely staff. Can't recommend this place enough, it's by far the best pub in Tewkesbury 👌

Found the Old Elm via the Good Beer Guide and rang them to confirm a slot for Sunday lunch. Not a problem with booking and they are also dog friendly too. We tried the Wye Valley HPA when we arrived it was in perfect condition. We had pre ordered our meat choices when we rang and our dinners came in around 10 mins. The food was excellent we had beef and lamb and there was loads together with loads of fresh veg. It was all round superb and great value. We finished off with a couple of puddings that were too superb. We will definitely return and highly recommend.

The BEST Tiger Prawns around! We went to visit the Great Wall Restaurant as we knew it had been under a new management and keen to see the new results. Outstanding, the place was so busy but that created a great atmosphere, and the food coming out of the kitchen was delicious, the staff were very attentive and super friendly. There was five of us dining and we had a massive selection of dishes, the crispy beef, melt in the mouth, the vegetarian dishes were fresh and tasty, the spare ribs meat dropping off the bone. We were all impressed with the white and red wine options and of course the Cobra beer on draught got no complaints. Would highly recommend and we will definitely be going back again. Perfect location to explore the lovely streets of Tewkesbury and a stones throw away from the Abbey and the River.
