Bistro Romanos in Barnsley

Very basic Italian food. Good service. Poor quality calamari, probably bought in frozen. Visited Thursday evening with group of Friends. No atmosphere.

Me & the hubby used to love eating here. We haven't been for about a year so decided to have a date night & we was so disappointed! I had ordered a diet Coke to begin with (currently pregnant so was pretty much the only option available), I could see the bar from where we was seated & the Coke was out of a bottle & when it was served it was flat & tasted awful! The food has massively gone downhill & you could tell it simply wasn't fresh. The garlic bread was 100% shop bought from a freezer section & from an Italian restaurant, you would at least expect the garlic bread to be fully fresh! The starters & mains were quite sloppy in terms of how it was served. Just looked like it had been thrown together on the plate, no presentation & didn't taste the best. Whilst the food was massively disappointing, the service was spot on & cannot fault the staff but unfortunately will not be returning.

First visit to eat here. The food and service by the staff was absolutely 5 star.

Me and my beloved had our anniversary meal at Bistro Romanos yesterday, it was also where we had our first date! It was busy, a little loud and completely awesome. I had pollo alla crema, the food is superb! This restaurant and Mario are Barnsley institutions - I love that it doesn't change! Quite simply this is the best restaurant in Barnsley!

This is the third time we have been here, visiting our family in Yorkshire , we live in Sussex. Always amazing food, just wished we could have all sat together , but I guess 20 people is a lot in a small restaurant! Food and service , we couldn’t fault it .

Booked for 8.20pm got there no table said it would be half an hour the older gentleman was quite rude said we could have complimentary drink charged us for them at the end of the night the only good thing was a lovely young girl who served us she was brilliant very very unhappy to say the least it was to celebrate my birthday they seem more interested in big groups

First class .The meal was delicious. Wine menu varied.

Absolutely delicious. Authentic. I had a pasta bake dish which you don’t typically see at other restaurants and it was amazing! They do the Italian pancakes too which my family love.

Visited on a whim and really glad we did. The food was excellent, and staff super friendly. Will be back again 👌🏻

Felt rushed with our meal but food was lovely. Didn't like it when one of the managers were shouting at the waitress staff in public!!

Came here this week for a friends birthday food was amazing staff great great service. Plenty to chose from on the menu. Only thing is the choice of soft drinks I think they need a better choice, they don’t do pop on tap so maybe small bottled pop or something.

Been coming to Bistro Romano's for almost a year now and it's safe to say it's a beautiful place to come and eat, the service is fantastic and the environment is a very comfortable place to be. The food is some of the best Italian food not just in Barnsley but Yorkshire on the whole, if you've not been before then you are missing out. Give it a go and I'm sure you won't regret your decision.

This was our third visit together here,we get together for our birthdays and various locations ,this is by far our favourite Italian that when we want Italian this is the only place we come.in no particular order food is so good and plentiful and service is so attentive yet not overpowering and Romano just makes it he is so funny and nice. Till the next time

We ordered a takeaway from here tonight. It was really nice! They made dairy free adaptations for my partner too but it didn't take away the taste. Really nice food, great Barnsley treat :)

Best Italian we have tried in Barnsley! Ordered as a takeaway and delivered in the timeframe we were told. Food was lovely and manager was very accommodating and helped me make sure I got food safe for my allergies! Thank you!

I would give zero stars, worst dining experience of our life. Unbearable atmosphere louder than a nightclub full of awful, pissed up, Barnsley clientele. Food was bland. Could not believe my eyes when the blonde member of staff behind the bar appeared to stick her middle finger up at me, to her horror when she realised I saw her do it! Presumably because I left 90% of my food and my face must have reflected our disappointment. Only positive was the large measures of wine which was needed to get through such a terrible night.

The food was good, the service was very good,the price of wine was good (although no Chardonnay. The bistro itself was decorated for Christmas which was a little over the top with tacky decorations. The atmosphere was very strained as there was a table with owners and family watching over things, which is very uncomfortable. Shame really because the food was good . Ps the roof on the bar is worth a look even if its through the window.

I'm really disappointed with our visit to Bistro Romanos. On the website they advertise that it is an intimate setting, which is very literal. It's a very small restaurant with not much space between tables meaning there is always waiters walking next to you. It felt more intimidating than intimate. There were also candles on each table so it wouldn't take much for someone to accidentally set themselves on fire when walking passed (I am an anxious person if you can't tell). We ordered garlic bread with cheese for starters and found out that the waiter mixed up our order with the table next to us, so we had to wait quite a while for them to redo it. When we did get our food, it was very bland. It was as if the base was bought from a shop. We could see there were quite a lot of mix ups going on with the table next to us and there was a lot of arguing between the manager and waiters. Next minute the manager is waving the paper with their order around in front of my boyfriends face. I really couldn't believe it! Extremely unprofessional. We got our mains pretty quickly but we ordered pizzas and again the base was the weird shop bought tasting thing. However the tomato sauce was really nice. Overall, I think if we went at a quieter time it may have been better but our experience has really put us off and we just wanted to leave. I didn't get the chance to inform the staff of our disappointment as we were already late for the cinema so had to dash off. But one positive I can say is that we were also 30mins late for our table due to traffic and they did manage to save it for us which we did appreciate.

Overnight in Barnsley and sought out an independent restaurant. Romano's delivered big time! Excellent food, service, atmosphere and value. Superb family run Italian.

We choose this restaurant because it said had GF options when arrived the waiters didn’t really know what food was ok for me to eat then another waiter came and said we make anything gf apart from pizza so I ordered stating I was celiac and he put GF on order slip I had stuffed pepper and started to feel a reaction soon after I ate it once home and feeling really ill I called restaurant and spoke to chef he didn’t know a celiac was eating in the restaurant! And I felt he knew I ate something I shouldn’t off !! NOT SUITABLE FOR CELIACS EATING HERE!

I would imagine it's been there 30 years and never had a refurb. Quite a strange little place but nice dimly lit atmosphere. Quite shocked at the prices for a Barnsley Bistro. Food was good. As with many local eateries definitely substance over style (big portions - little finesse!)......fillet steak really good but at nearly £36 it should be! Staff friendly. All other tables were "birthdays" and having a good old singalong to Dean Martin. Volare! Ohh ohhh ohhh ho! If I'm ever back in the area I will return for a touch of nostalgia! Pass the Black Forest please and a glass of Black Tower.

£25 for Brancott estate sauvignon it's £8 in any supermarket. Totally extortionate. *** In response to your reply it's Barnsley not central London. Selling supermarket wine is a risky decision but x 3 the cost just plain greedy. Your food is lovely priced accordingly so why leave yourselves open to overcharging for the wine ?

Service was very quick, food was delicious. Nice little restaurant. The mozzarella was delicious and so was the pollo serano. Husband almost could not finish his calzone it was a good size

Our first visit, and hopefully the first of many - unpretentious and delicious food with generous portions, my 50th birthday was elevated by the smooth grappa and friendly service. Highly recommended!

Fantastic Italian cuisine. Pizza has to be some of the best in town, good service too. Definitely worth giving Romano's a go, you certainly won't regret it. Highly recommend.

After moving to the Old Town of Barnsley last year we have since spent many a wonderful evening here . Erjon, Mario, head Chef & all the wonderful/amazing staff both front of house and back ensure you have the best time possible with great food. The extent Erjon goes to when it’s someone’s special occasion is so thoughtful with balloons etc Well done and thank you ! ❤️

Took my wife for her birthday waiting 3/4 of an hour for our starter. The bread was stale , my wife ordered fish pasta which only had mussels in it ,when my wife complained about the food the manager didn’t want to know and turned his back on he. Never again

Me and my wife visited this bistro for private Christmas party - group of around 40 people. Unfortunately it has turn into disaster. Food tasted absolutely horrible, service was very chaotic. I have to say it was unpleasant experience. I won't be back again and I won't recomment this place to anyone.

Having visited this restaurant before by chance and enjoyed a lovely evening meal with my husband, I decided to invite our daughter to try the restaurant for Mum and daughter time. We had a lovely experience. The service is excellent, very friendly and attentive staff, extensive menu to choose from and absolutely gorgeous tasty food. I intend to book again with relatives or friends as the restaurant ticks all the boxes for menu, staff and great tasting food, happy to recommend to others for sure.

Absolutely gorgeous food Authentic fresh tasting. Service too , excellent. Great simple welcoming atmosphere. Clean , hand gel on tables. Very pleasant experience HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Good wine too.

The food was delivered on time in a very friendly manner. Once again the food was excellent. The Pollo al a crème is to die for. Can’t wait for my next meal from Bistro Romanos.

Ordered a take away. Two lasagne & one lobster ravioli. Or so I thought… the “lobster” ravioli consisted of ravioli with a layer of sour cream cheese inside!! Never seen lobster at all. The sauce was meant to be with prawns, there definitely was not a single prawn. There was no sign of fish whatsoever. The lasagnes were fine but not much they can do wrong with that. Ordered from here quite a few times & always had the lasagne. I won’t be ordering from here again. My son once ordered the chicken Milanese and that was rubbish. I should have known better. If this is restaurant quality then I wouldn’t advise going in the restaurant either. Waste of money & time. Don’t bother is my advice!

Very disappointed in the quality of the food

Very busy for us, but it was a Saturday night. Gorgeous food. Attentive and friendly staff.

I messaged looking to see of there was availability for the same day, they got us in. Me and my husband obe Italian food and this place was spot on. Food was beautiful and the atmosphere was great! Definitely wl be coming again!

The food was reasonable and the service was good but it was quite cramped and noisy, so not a particularly relaxing environment for a meal

I won't be going on a Saturday evening again. Everyone was shouting instead of just talking. I went with a friend and we were literally leaning over the table so we could hear each other. I was hoarse on the Sunday. I'm not a kill joy but that was ridiculous. The staff were lovely as was the food.

We visited as a small family of three on a Friday evening and the service was fantastic. The staff were very attentive very friendly and couldn’t be more helpful. The food was absolutely delicious. Will definitely be returning again.

Beautiful food, the best Italian restaurant I’ve ever been to, the staff are also practically superheroes cannot do enough for you and always friendly. Cannot fault this place one bit.

Pizza/garlic bread base tasted like a shop-bought frozen pizza base. The calzone dough resembled a pasty. Has to ask three times for second drinks order. Pasta bolognaise was OK.

Really enjoyed our meal here last week. Can't rate the atmosphere too highly as there were only another couple of tables occupied. The food and service however more than made up for it. Always beautiful food every time we've been. The house wine is about £19 per bottle, but they are litre bottles instead of the usual 750ml, so not bad at all really.

Etratic service.confusion over a simple order. No gin in the gin and tonic. No ragu in the calzones. Had to leave before dessert so they could flip the table.. Squashed in a corner. Have had far better food, service, and reasonably priced drink at other Italian Restaurants in Barnsley.

As a family we have visited for years my grandson was 18 yesterday- he has visited for pizza since he was 5 - the meal was great-as usual- and thank you so much for helping us celebrate his big birthday- see you all soon

Had a lovely meal here with excellent service. It was a bit quiet when we arrived, but it was early, and it filled up shortly after. Menu options were explained and extra portion sizes were enough so were weren't over sold items we wouldn't be able to fit in which I really liked. All in all a pleasant evening especially with the kind gesture of the lemoncello shots 🙂

Fantastic food and good quality for money.

Excellent food and a warm welcome. We have visited as a couple and with our daughter on a few occasions previously and we even takeaway occasionally as it is so good, but on Saturday night they allowed us to squeeze in a group of 11 people. As always the service was outstanding and the food was beautiful. A true feel of Roma here in Barnsley. Highly recomended.

Lovely evening with fabulous food and service.

Our first visit here but definitely not our last. We made a booking last minute and the team were very accommodating. We were welcomed as we came in and seated straightaway. The food came in good time, it was delicious and plenty of it. My daughter did not finish her meal (she's not a big eater and had eaten a couple of hours before we went out) and was asked if it was OK and whether she wanted something else. Fantastic service all the way in a lovely setting with a brilliant team working together.

I visited Friday night with two friends. We all had a lovely meal, my lobster ravioli was spot on, washed down with a nice bottle of Rose wine. Music playing in the background added to the atmosphere and Mario sat down and chatted with us...

Visited for a family members birthday, my first time visiting and wow what an atmosphere. The staff really do go above and beyond to make sure you’re enjoying yourself. Brilliant music, free shots, singing, toys provided for the baby and just very friendly and personal...

Great decor, lovely welcoming staff but the food was VERY disappointing. The fillet steak tagliatelle had a small amount of round pieces of over-cooked steak , and the pasta sauce was so full of chillis that we had to leave it. The chocolate ice cream pancakes tasted as if they were using reheated , rubbery pancakes. We won’t be returning or recommending, which is a shame as we were expecting it to live up to its reviews.

Absolutely love this place, food is amazing & staff are fantastic. On our last visit we were the last to leave with staff cleaning up & ready to go home they didn’t rush us and the manager sat chatting to us until it was time...

The food was delicious and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend and cannot fault this place at all.
