Bistro Romano in South Tyneside

I used to love this place not anymore went for a double celebration and we were still waiting for someone to ask us what drinks we wanted when they came to ask for our food menu I was not impressed at all with slow service and will not be returning anytime soon it seemed locals were served before us and we were in the restauraunt before them

Excellent food , excellent service well worth the money, superior quality will definitely be visiting again. Would recommend the chicken stuffed with sage and onion with peppercorn sauce

Came to Romanos for Sunday lunch to celebrate our wedding anniversary. As usual we were greeted by Paulo and his fantastic staff and shown to a beautifully set up table. They have a Sunday lunch and a pasta side menu. The wife opted for roast beef while I had stone bass on mash with leeks, both were fabulous. I can’t recommend this place enough, we will be back soon

My first visit to romanos. Food was delicious, that goes without saying. What was amazing was the patience and courtesy shown to our group which included our three grandchildren aged 3, 5 and 7. Thank you and we will be back very soon.

Exceptional food and service in a well appointed restaurant. Menu choices were varied and interesting for a small bistro, with a good selection of Italian dishes and other main course choices (canon of lamb, halibut, etc). The food itself was delicious and beautifully presented, and service was attentive without being intrusive. We visited at lunchtime so it was a little quiet, but I imagine it's has a lively evening atmosphere when fuller.

This place is unique! Top quality, authentic Italian food. Replicates the best food you get in Italy. Fantastic atmosphere Service extremely professional Extremely tasty dishes - not the usual pizza/pastas caked in cream. It simply is a special evening every time we visit.

Gary Rhodes goes Italian. I first described Romano’s as this in 2009 after a disastrous meal the evening before at the Baltic when we went for Sunday lunch to recover and had a delicious pheasant pate. They still don’t disappoint! Always accommodating and charming service but the food is foremost! Honest and delicious! I balanced my Roast Hake on a crab and prawn risotto with liver pate on semolina toast. And leave the wine choice to Paolo!

One of the best restaurants in Sunderland to dine in. Friendly staff. Delicious food that are well presented. I had steak fillet and vegetables with pepper corn sauce. It went down very well. Good food at expensive prices! The restaurant has car parking facilities at the rear, that is easily accessible. Will go back there soon

My favourite restaurant, the food is amazing and the service is second to none. Romano’s is and always will be the best restaurant in the area, wether it’s a special occasion or just a treat to eat out.

Been meaning to try this restaurant for years and finally decided it was time. So glad we did. The food was absolutely excellent, and the service friendly and attentive, without ever feeling rushed. It’s nice to see some restaurants still bother using tablecloths as well, which adds a real feeling of quality. We will definitely be back soon.

We booked a table at short notice (but it was early evening) and we certainly did not regret our off the cuff booking. We had an absolutely lovely meal and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. We will definitely return next time we are back in the area. The quality of food was first class and the ambience and friendliness of the staff just made our short stay all the more pleasant.

The Best of the Best Italian restaurants I've been in!

Had a lovely Sunday roast here, the service was superb and it has a lovely atmosphere. Highly recommend, can't wait to visit again and try the Italian menu.

We were back and wonderful wine, excellent food and super good sevice! Always busy but Paolo keeps up appearances. Good good to be back!!!!

Nice enough meal (when it arrived) absolutely dire service. Total confusion throughout the night and when it came to paying the bill (other peoples drinks added to it). Having to ask for table water and bread while waiting 1-1/2hrs for our starter is totally unacceptable. Would not recommend or return

Fantastic evening last night celebrating my father’s birthday. Service, food, ambience all excellent. The best restaurant in the area. Beautiful village setting.

As with all treasured establishments, I crossed everything in the hope that Romanos wouldn't be damaged by the Pandemic. Now, while things are still no more than the 'new' normal, it was a true delight to be at Romanos again. The old school charm is still there. Relaxed, but efficient. Staff that know their role and their products. Attentive yet not overbearing. Italian and International cuisines central. Great food. More than a bistro gastronomically, but less stiff/formal than a silver service restaurant. Hospitality in its widest sense The Professors

Called in without booking and the staff sorted a table with no problem. Plenty people in too. Nice decor and seating, lovely food and good service. We had Sunday dinners and would definitely go back.

I honestly don't know what the fanfare is. Cheapest cuts of meat , massively overpriced with kid sized portions in a cold room with poor service. I agree the cooking is good but I shouldn't walk out the door feeling still hungry, despite only having the main course with a side dish of chips. Tailor made for the local (more money than sense brigade). Went home and ordered a takeaway.

We had a lovely meal at this Restaurant with family. The staff were so happy and attentive and accommodating with supplying a very tasty meal for all of us. The atmosphere was very warm and friendly and we will surely make another visit when we are back in the area.

Popped in for a quick lunch. Ample selection on the menu. I had the ham and cheese panini. The takeaway slices of cake were delicious. Reasonably priced. Friendly service.

Just a little too long between courses. While nobody likes to feel they're being rushed it took a total of 3 hours from start to finish for Sunday Lunch. All of a high standard.

Best Italian food and service you will find in the North east. Amazing seafood cooked to perfection, pasta to die for and the trio of puddings just heavenly.. not to mention the pistachio ice cream with amaretto cherries, Bellisimo!!!!

5 star service and 5 star food is

Romano's is simply our favourite restaurant; we don't live locally so it's a real treat whenever we're in Cleadon. The food is incredibly good - reliably so - we've NEVER not had a faultless meal. Service is great, friendly but always professional. The restaurant itself, with crisp white linen, sparkling silverware and luxurious but contemporary decor, is a delight. Looking forward to our next visit in August.

We love Bistro Romano for special events and occasional impromptu posh treats. So glad to see most of the same staff there after recent pandemic closures. Good variety of tasty choices, and leaving room for the excellent desserts is a must. Hoping for another visit very soon.

We visited last night to celebrate our anniversary. The staff go above and beyond their duty. Whether it’s your first or thousand time of visiting...I had steak which was cooked to perfection. Rare just how I like it. With black pudding. It was to die for. In fact my mouths watering at the thought. My husband had sea bass which was also delicious. We had white wine to accompany our meal. Again lush.The only complaint I have is we had to leave the restaurant before 10pm because of the pandemic. We would’ve loved to have stayed later. Can’t wait to return again. Hopefully soon....

Had dinner here last night and it was delicious. The staff are so attentive polite and very welcoming. The fillet steak was cooked to perfection. My husband had the aubergine dish that he said was lovely. Highly recommend

Absolutely phenomenal meal in a fabulous restaurant. I ordered a peach Bellini on arrival and the waiter went out and bought the peach syrup for me! Talk about top class service. From the artisanal bread to the watermelon, goat’s cheese and pine nut starter to the prawn and crab risotto with Thai spices and ginger, this was sublime cuisine. I have never had a better risotto, totally original and just delicious.

The food is delicious, the portions are large, and the customer service is excellent!

Went here for a family celebration and everyone enjoyed their food. The staff are friendly and attentive. As the title says, it’s not a cheap eat but would def recommend for special meals. If chose pasta then it’s not too pricey. They don’t do pizzas.

We went here for a meal and so enjoyed the whole occasion. Really enjoyed the prawn starter and followed it with the duck. Great choice of food for us all and the steaks were apparently outstanding. The service is so efficient and nothing is too much trouble. Will go again.

Very friendly staff and faultless service, food is fantastic with a decent selection on the menu, good atmosphere and a good choice of seating. Externally there is a good sized car park to the rear and if you’re lucky spaces out front. Would highly recommend having dinner at Romano’s.
