In a city full of first class inexpensive eateries the 401 Bistro falls into the category of overrated burger stalls. I had the chicken dinner, which was surprisingly lukewarm. Roasted, mash potatoes and vegetables were mediocre. The chicken cold and gravy from a packet. My partners burger came complete with wilted and browned lettuce. The fries, were burnt cold crips. Nothing is freshly cooked and complaints receive no feed back. This overrated and at £30.00 for two meals, a cup of tea, a coke served withoput a glass, ice or straw, take a walk into town and have something fresh!

Visited here Friday 18 th October. Why are you not opening for breakfast at 9.00am you advertise a cooked breakfast but you don’t open until 11.00am. Couldn’t believe that we wanted a cooked breakfast ended up at the other cafe called Gallery cafe and just got a lovely ham and cheese croissant instead. Plenty of people around looking at your menu like us then walking away. Then when you are open you have long queues . We came back for lunch after walking round the exhibits. Come on management take note long queue’s customers wanting to buy your food but you don’t want to serve it quickly. One member of staff serving hot and cold food then another member of staff further down the counter serving tea and coffee. When it at last got to my turn I asked for the salad and quiche the food was splattered on the plate, quiche thrown in the microwave which then broke up. The bowl for the salad was empty for her to put on my plate. I asked if the kitchen would be bringing out another bowl, yes I was told, but it never happened so I got the bits that were left in the bowl. Not happy. The kitchen staff were not filling up the containers of food but then that one member of staff hasn’t got time to tell them that the containers are empty. When the food arrived after being heated it was nice. Coffee was lovely. We wanted to try their own larger in bottles they ran out. All in all I feel more staff needed to help get the queues down and open at 9.00 for breakfast.

We ordered the fish and chips and while the coating was a great crunchy and good flavor the fish had a fishy taste unlike other places all over Ireland where we tried this entree. The chips are large cut French fries I would have preferred to be about half that size. Also tried the meringue is was very good. Crunch on the outside and soft in the middle and topped with great meringue Beware if you order mussels, my friend ordered them and it took over 45 to get them.

It cost 2 of us £30 for 2 x main meals, 2 x soft drinks and 1 x dessert Fish & chips - fish was nice but chips weren't cooked well. Cauliflower macaroni cheese - no cauliflower and bland, the garlic bread was rock hard. I told the serve this which he acknowledged and did nothing about Choc fudge cake - dry and they did not have any cream. Swerve this restaurant like an iceberg

This Bistro is within the Titanic Experience building. It offers a very hearty breakfast menu, and later in the day it serves luncheon. The till operation is chaotic during busy times, and my meal had to be re-heated as we waited so long to pay that it was going cold! The breakfast I had was very tasty, and good value for money as it included a hot drink, but the method of serving hot drinks & paying needs urgently reviewing to speed it up.

Inside the Titanic centre (the museum itself is excellent!), so it's in a prime location and has a captive market. Not particularly busy on this visit, but tidying the tables didn't seem to be on the job spec of the staff - too many empty cups, bottles & random bits of food left on tables. Bistro 401 is located inside the Titanic Museum, so if you're inside the museum itself then it's the best option for food. I think that this is the reason why the food is so mediocre because they know you'll eat there anyway because of the convenience. The menu itself is pretty expansive and the restaurant is stunning to look at with decorations inspired by the Titanic. I had fish and chips and they presentation was great and the fish was tasty but it was very dry. You'll get better food by eating elsewhere, but if convenience is more your style then you'll still get a decent meal here.

After spending over two hours looking around the titanic experience we were starving and decided to stop for a bit to eat. There wasn’t a massive selection but there was definitely something that most people would eat. We settled on the fish and chips and at just over £11 pound the portions where quite big. Considering it’s a restaurant in an experience I wasn’t expecting much but I have to say it was really enjoyable. My only issues was there is lots of seats cramped into a small area and it’s very busy so your sitting very close to the people at the next table.

One of our party ordered a Caesar salad and got it with chicken (which she did not order) see photo. I had Bang Bang chicken and it was very good. My wife had a large house salad and chose from 4 different types - greens, potato, pasta and slaw. It's a very busy venue and the try to really 'turn tables' and move diners through.

Bistro 401 is located within Titanic Belfast, if you visit the exhibition you'll find out the origin of the name!I'm normally reluctant to visit eateries attached to attractions as they have a captive audience and, in my experience, there is usually better food available nearby. The Titanic quarter however, is a little way out from the centre and having spent much longer than we'd originally planned at the exhibition, it was mid afternoon and we were starving so we decided to give it a go.It works on a cafeteria style system, you collect a tray, choose your food and drink, the pay before finding a seat. It's a pity when people feel they are more worthy of a table than those ahead of them in the queue, and think they are being very clever by plonking their granny/wife/kids down to reserve their spot but actually the queue moved quickly so we didn't have to wait long for a table; a helpful member of staff who was clearing tables and wiping them down was pointing them out to people who were waiting. My daughters shared a roast chicken dinner, it was a generous portion, with plenty of veg, but they said the chicken was dry, even covered with gravy. I had the chicken Caesar salad, creatively presented with the chicken dangling over the salad, it was tasty enough but nothing special. I've eaten worse, but I've also eaten better. The meal was expensive considering the style of restaurant and the quality of the food, but not extortionate when you take into account it is a major tourist attraction with not many other eating options nearby.

Please note everyone you must order your food and the colleague attending to the tables will get you a table.. DO NOT sit first or send someone else up (not that we had done this, I just think it's not well explained )Customers were re filling the trays and cake plates themselves as they were empty, the colleagues didn't take the hint and just allowed us to continue doing this, 4 meals ordered, the club sandwich had to pay £2.95 to add fries to the order even those the two pre paid salad options were not taken. It was quite stressful in the queue and not at all enjoyable, the lady organising the tables, working extremely hard I might add was lovely she got us a larger table and was very pleasant, her younger colleagues were lazy and quite frankly useless! No idea of teamwork at all.The macaroni cauliflower cheese turned out to be penne pasta in a flavourless white sauce with one (yes 1) cauliflower floret on the top!The un toasted club sandwich we ordered was sat under the lights so long it was that dry it should have been toasted, and the coleslaw was so salty it was hardly edible.Over priced considering what was served and not up to the same standard of the whole venue.

Their attitude was laughable, both verbal and non verbal communication towards 'paying' customers was appalling. We most defiantly will not be returning and I will not be recommending this cafe to anyone going to the Quarter. It's a terrible pity as we had a lovely morning and it was destroyed by the female staff, their lack of respect and manners for the customers.

Museum food is normally overpriced and poor quality. We were therefore pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food in Bistro 401 - the fish and chips 'wrapped' in newspaper was particularly good. The afternoon tea and cakes looked yummy too

The food still available in the hot plates is still delicious. I had the bang bang chicken and it was scrumptious and still very moist. You'd think sitting under the lights would dry it out but not the case.

Food was absolutely amazing. Party of 5 with all different mains. Not a scrap left on any of the plates. Can honestly say that this was the best meal out ever!

On the expensive side for average food. I had the most unusual presentation of a Chicken Caesar Salad I've ever seen (see photo)! My husband's burger was only average too. Coffee was okay. I upset a staff member by sitting at a table before I had my food and she promptly told me to get up. It was crowded and I was finding a table for us while my husband was ordering at the counter. I found another table and didn't move! Noisy and unfriendly atmosphere... so we ate and left to start our tour.

We had a fab breakfast waiting for the museum to open. The staff were very friendly and even gave us little titanic facts, including why they are called Bistro 401........ I won't ruin it. Ask the staff when you go :)

Bistro 401 is within the Titanic Experience, lovely freshly cooked food, reasonable prices, spotlessly clean, as we were staying close by we went for breakfast next day can't fault it.

Four of us attended the Titanic Experience it was excellent as were the staff. Then we decided to go for dinner at BISTRO 401 . totally ruined the next 48 hrs for two of us we had fish and chips as did another member of our party they came with COLD WATERY MUSHY PEAS .Two of us were so hungry we ate the peas. The fourth member had a chilli spiced salmon meal which was luke warm . Two of us had coffee ,Luke warm, The other Two had tea which was Ok. Staff were not interested. When we returned to where we were staying the early hoursof the morning The two people who had had the peas were constantly at the toilet and throughout the next day until we managed to visit a pharmacy and they advised some medication. Now on our return home I contacted this venue and requested a refund they totally refused and said if we had been to the doctors they MAY have and said no one else had complained , Trust me I am slowly tracking down the other customers from that day. 17/05/2017. Customer Beware if you have the cold comfort Peas (the fish & Chips were the only hot item ) return them even if they are busy and try to ignore you.

Enjoyed a lovely meal here before going round the museum. The main meals and desserts were simply excellent and the fact you could have a glass of wine whilst dinning was a nice added extra. You didn't feel like you were rushed but if you needed to be quick for lunch then that's possible. As part of the White Star Premium pass you get 15% off the food, worth a visit as the next place to eat would be in town and why not if there's a discount. Views across the water and out down the slip ways made it a great spot to grab and fulfilling meal.

This is not a cheap place for lunch during a Titanic visit - but well worth the money as the food is nice and caters for everyone in a family of grown up, teens and young kids. The fish and chips is highly recommended and all the little tarts were lovely too. Service was good and quick - exactly what you need when you're only there to visit.

We visited here recently the bang bang chicken was divine and the beef noodles were very tasty it was very busy but got a seat quickly after ordering. The kids pasta was slightly under cooked. Over all a nice meal before doing the Titanic experience.

Na mijn bezoek aan het museum hier even een scone gepakt aangezien ik honger had. Vooral de taarten zagen er erg lekker uit in de vitrine. Scone was Ok maar niet heel bijzonder

We visited the exhibition on consecutive days. First day lunch was good with my wife and I having club sandwiches and a meringue. Quite pricey but it was decent fare. Second day was a different story. I had the breaded chicken with roast spuds and mixed veg. The chicken was barely warm, the spuds hard and the veg basically cold. To be fair I received a refund but only after having to remind a member of staff that I had made a complaint. My wife however enjoyed her quiche so maybe I was just unlucky on the day albeit some of the reviews on here would indicate otherwise.

Located just by the Titanic Experience this is a dog friendly bar/bistro which was a popular location when we visited. Only drinks so cannot comment on the food but staff were welcoming and the drinks were fine.

We ate here both nights we were in Belfast. The pie, seafood chowder and chicken burger were all delicious. We got a table in the bar easily both nights as it was quiet. It felt like a traditional Irish pub and the staff were lovely The toilets need a refurb though in my opinion.

Nice to see an essentially mini Trademarket re-establish itself. Really cute decor and whilst there is a roof, there’s a large gap and from the alleyway, it’s still somewhat exposed to the elements so dress warmly (and the food will cool very quickly!). I couldn’t see any signage to the toilets though which would be a nice addition. Orto pizza was really nice. Wings weren’t to my liking but not really a wing person so wing lovers can discard that! Recommend!

Great little restaurant/pub. We were on our way to another restaurant and saw this one, menu looked ok so we decided to eat there. It’s Belfast city so didn’t expect much from any restaurant in the city. Food was great, large portions and tasty. Staff were fantastic, really really friendly and attentive without being pushy.

Six friends arrived for lunch in McHughs on our annual day out in Belfast together and were shown to the upstairs restaurant area. All very nice , exposed brickwork showing its historical past ,nice views etc. We all ordered the Irish Stew and some beers - a safe bet one might say!The waiter was friendly and helpful. The stew however was dreadful - very few potatoes not much meat and what there was ,was swimming in gloopy, odd tasting gravy. We were a local group from rural Ards who know their Irish Stew ,but everyone was disappointed at what was presented. After pointing out this issue we had to ask to see the manager . She arrived and after looking at what remained in the dishes she said she would speak to someone and disappeared. That was the last we saw of her. No ‘sorry about that and hope you come back again’ - nothing ,she just hid.We finished our beers ,asked for the bill , from which the stews had been removed and paid for the beers. We were astonished the manager didn’t return and there was an overwhelming sense of a lost opportunity by the manager to make the best of a bad situation. She made a disappointing meal worse by ignoring us and the issue. It wasn’t about discount or anything - it was about somebody agreeing the stew was poor and apologising. McHugh’s - get your act together for the sake of the real tourists!
