Beautiful period surroundings , let down by low standards of everything else ! Coffee's were not sufficiently hot enough , & on complaining a waitress seemed somewhat puzzled as to how best to remedy the situation ! The food offerings faired worse , after ordering 'fish-finger' sandwiches , we were dismayed to find , the fish-finger ultra slim (approx 1/4 inch) with a 'dark' filling , on canteen style bread (pre-packed sliced ) , a reasonably tasty salad & tartare sauce accompanied ! I presented these facts to 'the manager' , he laughed & said , well you have eaten it all ! I replied I didn't say it was inedible , but very sub-standard, after trying to appease with 'cakes' I accepted a 50% reduction ! All in all our worst dining experience !

Fantastic venue - light, airy spacious and not too noisy. The waitress was very attentive and shortly after sitting down she took our order. There were eight of us and we all ordered classic afternoon tea. Pots of loose leaf tea cam straight away however there was a slight delay in being served the sandwiches, cakes and scones so by the time these arrived we had all nearly drunk our tea and had a further wait to request refills as by this stage the tea room was busy. There was a great selection of sandwiches and cakes and was overall good value for money. The sandwiches were hard on top and the scones were not fresh which was disappointing. I asked others in my party and their responses were the same. So pretty average overall. Venue needs to improve the freshness of the sandwiches and scones especially when pre-ordered.

The Tea Rooms are set in a remarkable piece of Victorian/Edwardian architecture, set out in a very attractive lounge style so that it doesn't feel like the standard museum/gallery cafe. Not visited for several years. The setting is as spacious and characterful as ever. Great quality loose leaf teas and a decent selection of cakes. The counter area has had a refurb since my last visit and although this gives it a more homely feel, the ordering system is not that clear. There were trays at both ends of the counter (one set clean and the other to be washed?) and you seemingly help yourself to cakes. As I stood there with my carrot cake, a member of staff asked me if I'd paid for it, when a much better question might have been "Would you like a drink with that?" or "Anything else?". Drinks appear next to the coffee machines but you don't know whose they are. A bit more communication would help things along.

We've used the Art Gallery tea room for decades, but due to the ongoing road works in Birmingham have avoided the city for the last couple of years. Today, we decided to get our 'fix' and travelled to Birmingham by train. Our first stop ( as it always has been ) was the 'Edwardian' tea room. Aaaarrrghhhhh!!!! What on earth has happened? The last time we visited there were potted palms, bentwood chairs and original artworks from the gallery collection. Today we were greeted by lumps of black scaffolding, a mishmash of chairs ( many of which were very low and I dread to think how anyone could consume food from them ), tacky blown up Edwardian pictures gracing the walls and a general lack of anything vaguely approaching 'Edwardian'. In the old days there was a piano with a proper pianist occasionally tinkling the ivories too. It's a travesty! We refused to pay £3.50 for a small slice of stollen, given that the German Christmas market was next door. The toasted teacake was o.k. - nothing better than "o.k.", and as for the dreadful stained and artfully distressed enamel teapot, I can only say our Edwardian forbears are probably turning in their graves. I've always loved Birmingham Art Gallery ( and they will do very nicely when we're gone, as our wills leave our entire estates to the establishment ), but I'm sad to say we will probably give the tearoom a miss in the future.

We are three ladies who lunch (but only had a coffee on this occasion). I ordered a tea cake and a pot of hot water as I always take my own Pukka tea bags wherever I go! The tea cake was not warm and the butter was very cold (straight out of the fridge maybe?) which made spreading the £2.50 tea cake very difficult. Likewise with the toast. It was actually quite cold in the museum so the tea room was also cool despite us sitting next to a radiator.

After negotiating a few flights of stairs, we found our way to the Edwardian Tea Rooms. We arrived at a busy lunchtime but managed to find a free table. The menu was adequate for our purposes and I chose a jacket potato with cheese but didn't want it with the cracked pepper mentioned. Unfortunately, this couldn't be arranged so I ordered a burger with chips instead. Service was OK when considering the time of day but the burger was massive! It was certainly a quality serving but I'm not normally beaten on portion sizes, however, I was this time! I would question whether the burger needs to be served so large. In contrast, my partner ordered a sandwich and enjoyed it.

I ate Sunday lunch. Ordering did not get off to a good start. I said to the woman serving behind the counter, 'I will take the ham terrine and then the roast beef.' She replied, 'You wish to start with fishcakes?' A little language difficulty and inexperience - a minor and forgivable irritation. then I said, 'I'll take a large glass of red wine also.' Reply, 'I am sorry we have no red wine.' 'Very well,' I said 'I will make do with beer. What do you have?' 'We have only Becks.'. I am not alone in thinking that Becks is pretty disgusting at the best of times and certainly not a complement to roast beef. I took tapwater instead.

When planing to visit the leonardos my friend and I decided we had to do the tea rooms. It is a lovely impressive space to sit and relax for tea and food however we found it a little disorganised and not great value for money food wise. But with some simple changes this good be a better experience. It wasn't clear when we got there there are two types of service. What you see cakes/soup is self service ,Tea and other food for which the menu was only on the tables is a get a table and then go and order process. Very confusing as the only food we thought we could get other than cakes and soup ws the special which was a vegan sausage roll so we ordered that. It was 6.95 and when it came it was a lovely sausage roll but with a tiny side said on a small wooden board which makes it impossible to eat properly ,why so places insist on this soups way of serving food. It also seems unhygienic to me so never understand it . The tea I have to say wastes and very good but why they serve in a metal teapot instead of a nice local china pot is beyond me too. whilst we waited for our food which was quite quick we then found the main menu and read what could have had ... Place needs more thought for practicality in our experience

All the cakes looked nice, but I fancied something hot and savoury. The dining room was absolutely packed and it was a bit of a challenge to find 7 seats together for our group. Never mind, we found one lot of 3 seats together, another lot of 3 seats together and one of our group didn't have any lunch anyway ..... A very nice and buzzy atmosphere, lots of ladies of a "certain age" - so our group fitted in very well! We haven't visited the tea rooms for a few years so yesterday we decided to walk past our regular coffee stop and go there for coffee and cake. Sofas have been added to the tea room giving customers a comfortable place to sit since my last visit. There wasn't a great choice of cakes though and a small prepacked packet of three ginger nut biscuits cost £1 - the last time I visited a pack of biscuits was provided free of charge with each hot drink. The cake which my husband had was okay but the coffees were poor, my Americano was lukewarm and tasted more like instant coffee and my husband said that he's had better lattes.

We had an excellent lunch in Edwardian Tea Room, two had Parma ham omelette with salad with side order of chips. The others chose hand carved ham free range egg and chips and fish cakes with chips and tartare sauce.

Four of us popped in at lunch time, it was quite busy, no menu’s on the table? We go in search and apparently they are hidden near to the till area, a member of staff handed them to us without speaking! We decided to take the line of least resistance and had soup and sandwiches, the soup £4.95 per serving was luke warm and the pre packed sandwiches similarly priced were freezing cold a unique combination and one which we will not be repeating, a shame as this is great setting that with the right attitude could be so much better!

We decided to have lunch in the Edwardian Tea Room as it was the most convenient thing to do after visiting the museum. Luckily they were still serving the breakfast/brunch as a few of us fancied having that. It was quite busy and noisy but we managed to find a booth that just about accommodated us (it was a 'call-for-champagne' booth so we had to be careful not to press the button accidentally!). There was a high chair available for our toddler too. You have to order at the counter, where there was quite a queue, but the staff were pretty efficient and friendly.

My daughter booked on line for afternoon tea and asked us her parents to take her French friend to tea hoping it would be a lovely experience for her . How wrong could we be .First of all they could not find our booking although we had a print out of our online booking they kept asking for a table. No .which we had not been given Found a table for us but had to wait half an hour . The tea was small and unappetising we could not see each other through the silly shelving and when l asked for another pot of tea was told that would be extra but could have hot water which should have been standard .Be warned we were so disappointed and will not be returning .

Three generations of our family visited for the Dippy on tour exhibition and we all really enjoyed it, as well as Dippy there are lots of interesting and informative displays and we finished our day in the Edwardian restaurant where our grandkids enjoyed the special dinosaur meals and we had delishious wraps with large pots of lose leaf tea, the soft play area is excellent and our grandson asked if we can visit the museum every weekend!!! There are just six weeks left until Dippy continues on his tour so don't miss out on this excellent experience which is free of charge, congratulations to all the staff and management for putting on such a great event.

Not the first time we have been to the cafe in the museum. Before was just tea and cake. Cake was delicious. Today we stopped in for lunch after visiting dippy the dinosaur. Quick and efficient service. Was very busy but our lunch was served quickly think was a 15 min wait if that. Beautiful museum with a good cafe what's not to love

Visited the Museum to see the Dippy Tour. Impressive but a shame you saw Dippy as soon as you entered. Should have been hidden and revealed as you toured the exhibition of birds and their evolution. Went up to the Tea Room. refurbished nicely since I was last there. Very full - tables at a premium. Ordered 2 snacks and 4 mains. Waited 35 minutes for food to arrive. My smoked salmon and scrambled eggs and brioche was excellent. 2 breakfasts were enjoyed, though mushrooms were overdone. Tea was a bit too weak. Jacket potato and beans was fine, as were the paninis. Total bill with drinks was £57, which seemed a bit expensive. Noted a 6th Birthday Party underway. Menu has 5 starters and about 10 mains on it.

Great to see a superb interior put to a practical purpose, bit of a mixed layout of functional modern and classic pieces but pleasing to the eye and a very comfortable sit down space. Saying restaurant is pushing it for the gastronomic area. Hot food we tried was tasty and well presented at a good price, tea and snacks a wide choice.

We had the morning breakfast option. The food was hot and clean (i.e. not greasy) and very tasty. The tea room is surrounded by a gallery giving diners an enticing glimpse of exhibits yet to peruse.

I’ve always loved eating in here and the menu has got more interesting than it used to be, however the cooking of it is not always what it could be. Four of us ate lunch; two had mashed avocado on toast with poached eggs which was delicious; two of us had spicy chicken katsu burgers which sounded great but which was over cooked and in a dense rather than light brioche bun.

This place is enormous. There are several rooms each dedicated to a particular historical era. It has paintings, tools, treasure etc, everything from World War II, Roman treasure hoard, egyption mummies, religious icons etc. Definitely something for everyone and for all ages. This is not something you can rush around if you are to enjoy it properly. . . think in hours.

An amazing exhibition with contemporary and modern artwork from a range of artists. Various rolling videos were certainly thought-provoking and consideration is given to how gender roles have, and continue to develop. I loved the cigarette person/gnome (still not sure) in a glass case at the entrance of the museum, an interesting concept.

I'm reluctant to post this review fearing that I'll be helping driving people to this spot. It is perfect. Cheap, friendly locals, authentic, fresh pints. This is the local English pub experience without any BS. Lovely spot. Old place, lovely staff and locals, wish I ate there. Did I mention that it's cheap? It's not expensive at all.
