Bintang Emas in Argyll & Bute

We recently moved to Helensburgh and have been to Bintang Emas several times since we moved here, always left happy, really recommend - the menu is huge loads of choice with dishes from China, Malaysia, Thailand and more…the thing which stands out most is the flavours in the dishes we ordered, delicious and strong, and also how fresh the ingredients are and the quality of the meat and seafood - the beef and prawns especially - we love the Malaysian Curry Laksa King Prawn dish and the Malaysian Penang King Prawn Noodle, the prawns are HUGE! The soup is delicious, loads of veg, and the prawns are massive and fresh and lots of them in the soup and also a boiled egg. Also love the beef satay skewers, we always order those for starter, the beef is so tender inside and crispy outside and satay sauce delicious. The food is really good value for money, portions are big. The lady at front of house is so lovely - friendly and fun, really welcoming and chatty, always keen to chat to us and also tell us all about the restaurant and the dishes :) she always brings out lots of prawn crackers for the table and then fortune cookies at the end!

Food was inedible was taken back and was told would be refunded weeks later still no refund!

Happy the food was nice and hot when it arrived.

Received only one of the two portions of chips and cheese. Tasted like the chips with cheese had been microwaved and half of the chips were practically still frozen in the middle.

I have Chinese religiously every Friday my uncs is big John speaks fluent Chinese menu. I have been round the block a fair few times and this was right up there with one of the best Chinese I have ever eaten. Not too salty but just right. Crispy tender and juicy meat. The selection was phenomenal we ordered a fair few things to try it out as we are from London and we have a few quid to waste as money comes and goes / was hoping it was going to be nice and god dam it was. The staff was lovely and the chef was incredible everything was on point.

We had a delivery from them, 30 minutes late, and the food was absolutely shocking. The shredded beef was dry and under seasoned, not terrible but not very good. The duck in plum sauce was just absolutely appalling, it didn’t taste very nice at all and made me physically gag, only about 2/3 bites into it. The salt and pepper chips were under seasoned and a little dry, but they were horrible. The sweet and sour chicken Hong Kong style was dry and had very little sauce. We couldn’t eat our food as it just turned us off from it. The biggest light out of all this was the prawn toast, they were absolutely spectacular and were definitely the best we’ve ever had. All in all, it was a pretty terrible experience today and we are unsure if we will return. Thank you for reading

Potent wee meal, would defo buy again

Terrible customer service. Phoned me and demanded an additional 4.50 for delivery. No refund received yet either…

Would be ideal if they actually deliver the food which you pay for, which they do not. Waste of time and money.

Please sort out your website, if you aren’t going to accept orders you shouldn’t be taking payment. This has happened three times in the last 12 months. Website lets you order, takes payment, then confirms with the restaurant which is not accepted - then waiting a few days or a week for a refund. This will be the last time!

Yeah don't even bother trying to order for delivery, they take payment than cancel your order and the phone numbers listed don't work, And they don't seem to be responding to the other people who have had the same issue.

Listed as Open, tried to order online, payment taken but then got an email saying order not accepted refund could take days. One phone number rings out, the other is disconnected. Facebook post says "we might be on holiday". Useless.

Very central location on the front street with excellent views across the River. Good menu and well cooked food. Only downside is that it is not licensed, so only soft drinks are available.

order was delayed 3 times with no explaination tried calling 7 times phone rang out or was engaged so had to wait 3 hours for order to be delivered i hope i dont get this issue in the future

Food is really good, never had an issue before but we waited almost 3 hours for our food, and I offered to collect!

An extra £4.50 on top of the £3 for delivery to faslane but the food is of good quality although the mushroom fried rice is lacking a few mushrooms

Problem with delivery fee, paid for delivery online and then got charged extra? Disappointed if I knew that was the case wouldn’t of ordered.

Placed order at 18:10, order delivered 20:03. Almost 2 hours after calling the restaurant 3 times.

Used to be great for delivery but now dreadful..ordered 90 mins ago via just eat. Called to be told if would be another 30 mins! Won't use again. Shame cos food is fab.

Great Chinese, everything always hot and freshly made. Definitely one of the best if not the best in Helensburgh.

A little over priced and portion size under whelming. Very over salty "salt and pepper chicken". I've had better. Over all OK but not worth the over price.

Small portions, and the salt chilli chicken was poor. Not enough chilli, when advertised as being chilli chicken and the soup lacked seasoning. Worst Chinese I’ve come across in H’burgh. Need to up their game if they want to compete with the competition. Doubt I’d order from here again.

The food itself was good. However, on calling the restaurant after the expected delivery time no one answered 4 calls. So I drove down to question the delivery time to find the restaurant shut!!! At this time (9pm) I resorted to having to get a chip shop takeaway… only to find the meal delivered 5 minutes later. I have no idea how or where the meal came from, I just wish they would keep the customer updated/ answer the phone / reply by text from app!!!

Lovely fresh food, the staff were very welcoming, infact they made a point of saying goodbye even though we were outside. Restaurant was quiet but don't let that put you off as the food was lovely and the service was great 👌

It was worth more than it actually costs

My son and I visited today at lunch . We have been before but knew the restaurant had been shut for a while . Delighted to see its still the same and offers a 2 course lunch meal for just under £10. I can recommend the Chicken and sweetcorn soup and the Kung Pho Chicken. Both were very nice . The chicken was very generous and had lots of cashew nuts, bamboo shoots ,water chestnut and a spicy sauce . Portions are generous and were served while warm ! My only slight negative comment is that I find the Chow Mein dishes to be a bit small. My son has had this 3 times and it's not as generous a Portion as my main dish.I think it needs more noodles and meat. Staff are friendly and helpful.

Starters were first class main meal was very dry with very little sause. Food normally 1st class so hope it was a one off

Phoned the restaurant after an hour. Was told "waiting on driver" After another 30 min and a second phone call, food finally turned up. Food was cold. Thanks. I know were not to go in Helensbrough.

From first entering the restaurant we were greeted with friendly staff. We opted for the 2 courses for £9.50 (plus supplements) as it was good value for money. For starters I had the Salt and Pepper Chicken Pieces (for an extra £2 to the set menu). A generous portion of delicious Chicken. For main I had the Beef Curry, Fried Rice and Chips. (Chips was an extra £3). This was a huge portion, very filling. I very much enjoyed the food and the service was good. I have only given 4 stars to this establishment as it does need a redecoration inside.

Excellent food. Reasonable prices. The salt and garlic ribs and prawns starters were really good, as well as the satay chicken skewers. Decent portions. Was a Monday night so quite quiet. Fairly spicy mains so if you want less spice say so! They can adjust the recipe within reason. Very friendly staff. Highly recommended.

Ordered seafood soup but came with no seafood. Delivery man gave me the wrong change and run to the car before I had time to check.

The Munchy Box 12" was way too salty! Salt&Pepper chicken is my staple go to takeout but there was so much salt I stopped enjoying it after the third bite, though the food wasn't greasy like most other take aways, three people only managed to eat half of the Munchy Box because of the salt. The fried noodles were very good though, and the King Prawns were tasty but again too much salt. Halve the salt and I'll rate the food significantly higher.

This is the best Chinese Curry I have ever had,it was absolutely outstanding.The place was clean and tidy.Staff very helpful and friendly.As I was leaving I advised the Owner to open up a restaurant in Glasgow.

Delicious curry,chicken melts in the mouth.Ample portion more than enough for one.Yummy fried rice.Large pieces of chicken.Definitely having this meal again.Thank you for a great meal.

Over an hour late. Food was cold and the order was incorrect.

Ordered sweet chilli tofu, they were quick to call and apologize that they didn't have any so just I asked for mixed veg and it was perfect. Good mix of veg and still crunchy with nice slices of chillies as well.

Visited the restaurant last night (Saturday) for a family meal. My wife had visited last year for a lunch and raved about it, so decided to try for a meal. We were not disappointed. The waitress (Abbey) was very attentive. She advised that as they did not have a drinks licence, the off sales was 2 mins walk away and we were welcome to ‘bring your own bottle’. Menu was plentiful and portions were large. We all had various starters and main dishes and all came fresh and piping hot. Every dish was tasty. The owners both came out and introduced themselves between courses which is a pleasant touch. Would definitely recommend visiting and will be back to sample different dishes next time.

Visited last night, the soups were so tasty, freshly made and piping hot. Good selection of Malaysian dishes which were awesome had the chefs special, authentic and tasty. Also had the duck and mushroom, no skimping on the duck absolutely gorgeous. Staff very friendly and the chef came out to ask about his food. No alcohol but you can BYO

Ordered foor around 8pm and the guy arrives at 10:38 (supposed to be 9.15) with over half the food missing. No phone call to offer alternative. Phoned to chase at 9:27 and told it would be within 30 mins. Terrible service.

Kung po king prawn was in batter and the sauce was like sweet and sour which I do not like particularly.

it is good but they did send onions in my chow main when i asked no onions in the chow main idk if they did this by acident but it is good i would recommend the Bintang Emas
