We celebrated our daughter's birthday here, on a beautiful sunny day in York. The service was excellent, Jamie couldn't have done more, accommodating my celiac disease brilliantly - nothing was too much. We ate well, enjoyed Prosecco, and even saw the marching bands through the window . It was a special day, and one for our family memories.

Lovely food well presented. 5 star service from Amy who took a lot of time adapting my meal to take care of dietary needs. Chefs made suggestions which were very helpful. Price of a pot of tea seems expensive but the teapot was enormous! The porridge with berries was delicious and a huge bowl.An enjoyable experience all round. Well done Bill's.

Very nice steak and fries but needs more gluten free dishes on the menu will be back in July.

We had such a wonderful time that we went back a second time during our stay in York. Our server Rhys was fantastic. The food was very good and served how we requested. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a night out.

We booked a big party of 27 people and the staff at Bill’s could not have been more helpful. In the run up, they answered all of my never ending questions, helped me store a rather large birthday cake, and even came out and sang to my husband for his 40th. Amazing food and drinks and everyone had the best time. Thanks!

Visitamos un domingo por la mañana como un grupo grande y, en comparación con cuando he estado antes como pareja, no fue una buena experiencia en general. En primer lugar, reservé originalmente para las 11 am y luego cambié esto a través de la mesa abierta a 11 : 30 am. Sin embargo, el cambio no parecía haberse registrado porque cuando dos de los invitados llegaron, les dijeron groseramente que no habríamos tenido mesa si hubiéramos llegado a las 11. 30 am. Sin embargo, el servicio era tan lento que esa afirmación no tenía sentido en absoluto. Nos dijeron que la cafetera se había roto y por lo tanto esperamos unos 20 minutos a que llegaran las bebidas. Algunos de los invitados tuvieron el gran brunch y querían sustituir un artículo por algo más y abruptamente se les dijo que no era algo que pudieran hacer (a menos que fuera una sustitución no cárnica), pero cuando cenamos en York unas semanas antes, no tenían ningún problema con eso. Al final, permitieron las sustituciones de carne. La comida en sí era tan buena como en visitas anteriores, que era la única gracia salvadora en general.

Had an absolutely lovely time at Bills, we came yesterday morning and today and both days we were so impressed, we were serves by Jade ans Emily on our visits and they were both diligent friendly and so welcoming, we couldn't be more impressed. The food was wonderful and the garden plate is a sexy little breakfast for a vegetarian, 10/10 will be back <3

Welcomed in immediately, with a selection of tables to suit us. Jade was personable, friendly and ever so delightful. Bottomless pancakes were amazing, and £5! 10/10.

Absolutely gorgeous cocktails and burger. We hadn't booked but staff were very accommodating and found us a great table. We even got a bag of treats for our dog. Lovely atmosphere.

It's a trendy place, we felt a bit lost at first but breakfast was fine although a little pricey.

Great service. Booked through Reef and the staff were very attentive. Had some fries, corn ribs and tropical lemonade and all were great. Perfect place for meeting clients too.

Nice breakfast but a little dry

I brought my daughter and friends for her 11th birthday celebration. When booking the bookings system asked if it was a special occasion so I gave details, and they also gave the option to pre-order a 'big bang birthday brownie': "Earn some 'Brownie Points' and surprise your bestie, date or great aunt Susie with our big bang birthday Brownie", complete with pic of a Brownie with a sparkler stuck in it. When they took our dessert order I discretely reminded the waiter of our pre-ordered birthday Brownie, hoping my daughter wouldn't catch on to that. When desserts came, no Brownie came. When our server asked if that was everything I mentioned it again, and he said 'Oh, you mean the celebration Brownie?'. Waited another age and then an ordinary Brownie, identical to the one another guest had ordered from the dessert menu, was brought and plonked down unceremoniously on the table, at which point our guests caught on and we sang a quick happy birthday. I felt completely gaslit by the whole experience to be honest - I've returned to the website and checked my order and I had indeed ordered a birthday brownie. I didn't mention at the time as I didn't want to kick up a fuss and spoil my daughter's evening, but if you offer a special 'big bang birthday brownie' to order in advance you should at least stick a candle in it. Also, the food was mediocre and service very slow.

Enjoyed a fab meal at the York restaurant yesterday. It’s in a great location and the menu has something to suit most people. Our server was Alex and he was attentive and charming making the experience even more enjoyable.

We were sat on a table for 2 at the very far end, under a music speaker which was so loud we were literally SHOUTING at each other. We asked to be moved but our request was blocked by the unhelpful waiter who could only suggest to turn the music down. despite tables for 2 being free close by. In despair at the lack of customer service we re-located ourselves to a quieter table and picked our own food plates up along with cutlery and made ourselves comfortable. Then to add insult to abysmal service, a "service charge" was added onto our bill. Of course we asked for it to be removed because of the poor quality of a) food and b) customer service. Definitely won't be recommending or revisiting this establishment.

My husband and I booked a table, lots of tables free but we were still made to wait in a stuffy corner. We were looking forward to eating at Bill’s but we were let down, with me being heavily pregnant and this was also meant to be a birthday meal, after we got sat down we were completely ignored by wait staff, other people served before us who were seated after us, wait staff checking themselves in the mirror or giggling instead of working, so in the end we left. Never going back.

Was very busy when we arrived but thankfully they could seat us. I had the chicken shawarma which was really good - I didn't like the pickled cabbage on the salad it came with, but that's personal preference. Husband had the buttermilk chicken and pancakes which he enjoyed. Reasonably priced for the quality of food. Quick service too.

Good atmosphere with good music. We came for brunch and was not disappointed. Meal portions was a good size. I had eggs Florentine which was nice but some flavours over powering. My partner has pancakes which he enjoyed with a golden latte and I had a oat latte. Our server Jade was fantastic and polite. Does student discount too which is a bonus.

Didn’t think it was very good! Food not that nice, smallish portions, not an extensive menu and expensive. Allergy management not very good either. Chose them based on their reviews on an allergy specialist website about being able to cater for this need and was more or less told by our server “we cannot guarantee” which is like playing Russian roulette with your life when you have a food allergy. Not much point having the filter for “contain” and “may contain” on your website if everything is a “may contain”. Would not return.

Everythink was amazing tonight but the service was 5star + by a waitress called Emily she was out of this world thank you for a great night the old guys miles and darren

AMAZING service by the lovely Lesley (hope that's spelt correctly), was attentive, me and my best friend went for a little lunch and became very happy on our bottles of Prosecco :). Everything we needed we got quickly and with a smile and good banter. would highly recommend the Prosecco and pancakes deal for duos or even more. will go again. The food was quick out of the kitchen and good. I would say the portions are a little smaller than anticipated with the price, but still good food.

Restaurant was very busy and service exceptionally slow. It took over a hour for our main course to arrive and then one dish was not what we ordered. Food was lukewarm. Overall very disappointing and not what we have enjoyed on previous visits to Bills restaurants.

Decided to try as our first experience was positive,waited 10 mins for a table even though it was half empty,ordered a breakfast to which came cold and it was cook to an inch of its life and the sea bass was just awful 😖. Wife also ordered a cappuccino which came cold,they put this in the microwave for me,bill came to 45 quid.i like value for money but that was awfull.

Great place. Service was good, apart from the olives arriving at the same time as the starters, instead of before.

Extremely disappointed to find a 12.5% service charge automatically added to the bill and to remove it, you must speak to a member of staff, thus creating embarrassment. Food was okay, but won't return due to the service charge.

Great good and great service. My steak was tender and cooked to perfection and my wife loved the fish pie. Really enjoyed our evening.

Well personally I think most burgers when eaten out are over priced, but this wasn't too bad when you compare what you'd get in a Mac Donald's bag, and the superb quality you get here. I was working at the theatre, and had been living on sandwiches for the whole period, and yes technically a burger is a sandwich, it made a nice change.. some of the other food looked fantastic too.

Food was good, although I have a bone to pick! We were only given the full 'expensive' brunch menu, I really fancied a bacon sarnie but only had full breakfast type options. Turns out there is another menu with cheaper things like bacon sandwiches on, which I only worked out when the folks on the next table were served bacon sandwiches. I reckon this was a conscious decision of the venue rather than server error. As a result I feel swindled and won't be returning, even though we are locals.

The food is really good, chicken burgers are a must, and the shawarma’s are pretty tasty. The pancakes tower is a challenge but totally worth it. But the best thing about this place is the service, they were so kind and friendly, totally worth to try this place. Thank you again guys, you rock 🤘🏻 I’ll be back!

Delicious food, friendly staff and cost atmosphere.

Ordered egg royale and Korean fries which was good and the coconut latte was okay. This place is good for breakfast and brunch, however food took longer than 40 mins to come considering it wasn’t that busy at the time, and also didn’t like the fact that there was a service charge of 12.5% and a VAT on top of that!!

Lovely place, lovely atmosphere lovely staff. Visited in a party of ten, all seated fine and coffees ordered all lovely but then finished our coffee and then another 20 minute wait for breakfast order to arrive and when it did there was various things wrong and everybody's eggs were flat cold , shame really but will not put us off returning.

Friendly staff and excellent food. Best to book in advance though especially at the weekend as gets busy. Back again, day before Christmas and again, staff and food still excellent 👌.

Although some in our group were having disagreement regarding the value for money aspect of the food but I believe it was a decent quantity. Nice and cosy atmosphere.

Love this place. It's our go to when we go to York. Dirty Vegan Burgers are so tasty and juicy. Bill's Flower Pot are the best.

A real shame. Bill’s used to be great. Overpriced, overcooked, accountancy-driven formula. Disappointing.

Visited with 2 friends and our 7 month olds, and can’t speak higher of our server James. He went out of his way to ensure we had enough space, were able to enjoy our meals, and took the time to help carry 3 prams up and down the stairs. Unfortunately understanding and help like this isn’t always a given, so it was much appreciated. 😊

Food is of a reliable standard, only reason it's not 5 is because it's not a WOW experience as such, but their dietary / allergen guidance is great! We all enjoyed our food.

I had a really lovely meal with my friends here and our servers were absolutely fantastic. I had chicken and it was perfectly cooked and tasty. Our group was all over the place with people coming and ordering at different times and the wait staff were so nice about it. My very ditsy friend accidentally tipped 1p instead of £10 for the table and since it was online we couldn't change it. But thank you to the team for making our horrible rainy day so much nicer!!

Ignored while waiting for a table despite being half empty. Serving staff bumped into my chair every time they walked past. Over an hour waiting for food after ordering. Butternut squash, avocado and poached egg on toast arrived as 2 poached eggs on a single slice of dry toast. They had the cheek to add 12.5% service charge. I complained, they accepted my complaint and cancelled the whole bill.

This is a fairly balanced review. The food was delicious although I was missing black pudding from my breakfast which frankly is a crime. The next atrocity was my pot of tea, that took over an hour to arrive and I chased at least three times. Tea aside, the waitress was excellent

Amazing! My husband and I just arrived to York and was looking for dinner. Bills is AMAZING! The food is awesome and the staff was more than kind and welcoming. They went above and beyond to make us happy! Even gave us a bottle of wine at the end, she had no clue we were here to celebrate our honeymoon! Thank you so much for making our night special! Can’t wait to come back for brunch.

Good variety of food, mine was very tasty but stand out thing was the service. Everyone we met was polite, friendly and attentive but James in particular was brilliant. So helpful, kind and patient- left very impressed

We recently visited Bill's in York and were thoroughly impressed with the level of care and attention shown by the staff, especially when it came to accommodating our special allergy requests. We ordered poached eggs on sourdough with avocado twice, but for the second portion, we needed everything to be free of eggs, dairy, and nuts. The staff went above and beyond to ensure everything was prepared safely and to our satisfaction. We also had the Bill’s Full Breakfast twice, and it was absolutely delicious both times! The flavors were spot on, and the portions were generous. The team at Bill's really stood out for their attentiveness and professionalism, making sure every detail was perfect. It’s so refreshing to find a place that truly cares about their guests' needs. We’ll definitely be returning soon! Highly recommended for anyone visiting York. 🌟

Typical bills chain restaurant if you want somewhere reliable. Service was awesome to be fair we were really looked after and the food was tasty. My friend had the chicken which was a little overcooked but still was good

My experience at this establishment was rather questionable… Boy oh boy… where do I even begin? First of all, why were the fries so sticky!? (See pictures below) Me and the group were absolutely disgusted with the amount of sticky fries in clusters! Sometimes up to 8+ fries per cluster! Bro! Furthermore, the music was a bit too loud. Combined with a quiet waitress, the experience with the staff and overall feel for the place was severely reduced. Also, there was a homeless bloak right outside the restaurant… WHAT!? Not the best first impression… luckily it wasn’t too bad, because the homeless blud was supringsingly polite and friendly. It’s not all bad though! An INSANE life hack is that if you buy Bill’s Burger (NOT VEGAN!) you get completely FREE fries, instead of having to buy them. This is a secret Bill does NOT want you to know! Lastly, I want to speak on the wheelchair accessibility. There are no stairs here (thank god), so you would think it’s good for wheelers, right? NO! You should treat the wheelchair users with some respect! They are people too! My suggestion is to make the front door open both ways. It seems way too unintuitive for a handicapped bloak to even bother entering the premises. There is more to be said (ugly ahh roofs, the waiter took my food before I finished, uneven tables, rude names on vegan dishes to mock the vegans), but to keep my sanity intact, I think it’s best to end things here… Lots of improvements to be made here Bill, but I believe that you can do it. Don’t be sad about this review, but use it as inspiration for what the restaurant can aspire to be! I wish you nothing but the best of luck going forwards Bill!

Visited Bills for breakfast on my recent visit. All I can say is wow! I had the squash, feta and eggs on sourdough. It was delicious. I underestimated the size of the portion and it certainly set me up for the day. I made a new doggy friend. It's great to see York becoming a more dog friendly city. The staff were lovely but I dined solo and did find the staff quite standoffish. I wouldn't have said it was a particularly busy morning but the service did appear a little slower than I would have expected. Nonetheless, I enjoyed my dining experience and the decor brings a very welcoming atmosphere.

The food was very over priced . Chicken shawarma and two cokes £41.50 When we came to pay the bill it was card only if we had known this before we ordered we would of gone else where . Apparently there's a notice but we didn't see it. Service charge is added on your bill which is appalling as we tip if the food and service is good. We heard the people on the table next to us complaining about the service charge .

If your feeling hungry don't have the fish pie. Not much fish or mash and it does not come with any veg. Mentioned to the waiter but no apology

Stayed in York for a few days for my birthday and wanted to go somewhere for our evening meal. Booked a table online after reading reviews and we had our dog with us so we wanted somewhere that was dog friendly. Me and my partner shared crispy calamari and chicken and sesame dumplings to start then I had fish goujons with chips and my partner had burger and chips and we had a garlic and harissa flat bread to share. We preferred the starters to the mains. My partner had chocolate cheesecake for dessert. I had a banana colada to drink and my partner had a pale ale. Friendly staff, reasonably priced. Our only issue was we were offered water which didn’t come so we had to ask again and when it came it was warm. Would’ve been nice to have cold water to drink or put some ice in it.

Excellent breakfast, although slightly cold for the Eggs Royal. The traditional breakfast was lovely and the black pudding was really good. Cappuccinos were good and so we're the juices (although they did put in ice cubes to cool them down). The Staff were extremely welcoming and friendly.

Great meal and lovely service from Blen. We had a really positive experience and would visit again.

Bills is lovely for a lazy Sunday brunch. Great staff and jade was our waitress couldn't do enough. Many thanks will be back for breakfast next.

After leaving a different restaurant after an awful experience we tried here and were seated straight away as a walk in on Saturday night, and what an incredible meal we had! Every staff member was so polite and reassuring that they could cater to my allergies. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was next level. We can’t wait to visit again next time we’re in York. Big thanks to Evie, who was super lovely and incredible at her job and the manager in the purple shirt was amazing.

Bills is always a good menu. Came here for brunch and it was a lovely start to the day.

Casual atmosphere, a bit cramped, a lot of tables in a small space, friendly service, food is tasteless, lukewarm, not appetizing and has a poor price/performance ratio, like the whole restaurant.

We booked a table for 4 for my Grandma’s birthday. We were sat down quickly at the table and ordered our drinks. The coke zeros came in the form of a warm can, so warm to the point the ice melted completely within a couple of minutes. The food was tasty but i wouldn’t say particularly good value, but i suppose that’s the coney street tax. We waited ages for our table to be cleared and to order a desert. This was a Sunday at 1300 and it was fairly busy.

Until you stop adding service charges to bills then you will only get one star. This isn’t America. We pay the menu price and a tip is optional. Service charges are just ridiculous and a cheap way to inflate the bill. The food was mediocre anyway so am not planning on returning.
