Absolutely disgusting chips hard and dirty looking, young staff needed winding up they had 1 speed very slow! Took grandchildren for lunch cost £34 seagulls had a feast. Avoid at all costs.

Fish and chips and sausage and chips were covered in grease,think they had also been there a while we couldn't eat them. Would probably need a cardiac team if we did. ..on a lighter note the seagulls had a feast hopefully they are still alive:(

Worst fish and chips we've ever had. This used to be a good place for fish and chips but it's gone right downhill. The fish was more batter than fish and didn't look fresh and the chips were dried up and over cooked. We threw most of them away.

After enjoying Bill’s for years, this evening we have just dumped 2 x fish and chips (£24) in the bin as virtually inedible. With regret, we obviously won’t be back. What a shame this place has declined to such an extent. (And we are going home literally hungry!)

called in here on saturday for a rare treat and looked forward to them, the Queue was Quite long there was 1 person frying one older lady serving with a very young assistant not one of them seemed bothered about putting a bit of 'go' in there job so unbelievably slow. got served & asked for 2 fish and a portion of chips. found a seat across the road and found a box with a greasy overdone thing they called a fish found about a 2inch piece of fish all else some horrendous burnt greasy blob. chips white and black spotted and hard the poor birds left them too so in the bin £21.60 dowm the drain wasted nothing professionable about this place at all

Visited this (Once great seaside chippy) this evening on my way home from work. Just fancied good old cod and chips. And that's exactly what I got, well as far as the chips....soft, hard, crispy, long, short some bad some green. As for the fish, well apart from being in my opinion (small) it was greasy and soggy batter all for £11.30 freshly cooked though. Much better local chippy's without a doubt. Defiantly will never return. Shameful

Possibly the worst chips I’ve had in my life and I’ve had some truly awful experiences. What makes it worse and there are some fantastic chippys along the road in Tynemouth. Next time I’ll check reviews on TripAdvisor 😡

Waited ages in queue for old disgusting chips! Threw them on the lawn when we got home and even the seagulls wouldn't eat them! Will never return and do not recommend.

Went in today 28.6.23.bought 2 portions of chips to takeaway cost £3 a portion. The worst chips we have ever tasted. Tastless. Full of bits of scraps. And what appeared to be black spots on lots of the chips. Both portions went in the bin.

We travelled a considerable distance by motorcycle to get cod and chips here as they were decent last year and good value for money- unfortunately the food wasn’t very hot, the fish batter tasted old and the chips not much better. You can get better at ‘Longsands’ further along the coast. Very disappointed.

Went in for some food with a scarf covering our face. I work clinically in a hospital, and all the patients are allowed in the the hospital with a "face covering", including scarves, so I didn't quite understand but if that's their rules, then fine....

As a small group of family and friends popped into this takeaway yesterday to purchase some food for our children (we were visiting the seaside with them). The older lady behind the counter hollowed at me to which I was quite embarrassed about. I asked her for my order, she mustn’t have heard, as she quite abruptly asked me again! No customer service skills at all, she had awful manners. I will not ever be visiting again. Please do take the time to remind her how to simply be pleasant to people!

We’d walked into Tynemouth but out F&C shop of choice, was so busy (Q wise), we decided not to wait and grab something on the way back to Whitley Bay. BIG MISTAKE,We saw “Bills Fish & Chips” in Cullercoats didn’t have a queue and soon realised why when we tasted the food. Not worth typing any more. Absolutely awful quality. Absolute waste of money. I think the seagulls left it too. Such a shame because the location is great.

Went here this afternoon for a quick take away lunch. There was no queue -- no wonder! Plenty of staff but were all too busy chatting to take any notice of my order . I asked for sausage and chips with batter and a fish on its own with vinegar.What I got sausage and chips no batter and a fish covered in SALT. I said to the young guy serving me that I asked for vinegar not salt and he said UH I told him just to put some vinegar on -- OMG there was so much vinegar on I could have drank it! We had to POUR it out before I could open the carton to eat! The portion sizes weren't that big either -- I would say the piece of fish was about half an inch thick if that -- and really wasn't that tasty. I've had fish bites with more fish on than this! Definitely don't go here again not recommended

Ordered haddock and chips, but they must not have understood my Yorkshire accent because I ended up with whale and chips. Never mind, it was still delicious... nice light batter, full strength vinegar... top Noah.

Dropped in for a mid afternoon snack. Fresh haddock (the size of a whale) and super crispy chips made to order. Highly recommended

I was in at lunchtime it was busy but not out the door, I ordered a cheeseburger and chips a light bite and chips and a fish and chips, I stood back after the young lad shouted to put a light bite in so waited 15 minutes or then my order was ready. I git the burger with a stale bun I asked for another I got fish’s bite and chips instead of light bite and he said I basically had no choice which wasn’t ideal but I took it and I thought my fish and chips looked small but I kept quiet and took it all anyways thinking that was the size, my parents went upstairs to get served to sit in and they ordered pensioners special. After meeting up on the beach I asked them what size there’s was and they said double the size of mine which I did think was small, so at 3.30pm we headed back to the car and I popped my head back in to ask the lad who served me if he had accidentally gave me a light bite rather then a regular and charged me too much? To my horror the angry charva frying the food in the back started booting off shouting at me asking why I was coming in at this hour to ask for a refund ( I never asked for a refund and time is not the issue) he was vile spitting on like a right scruff filling me with lies about how he never made any little fish that day, mouthing off that he was the manager, iv never been so embarrassed for someone in my life he really showed him self up and the pure lad at the till looked so embarrassed, obviously I told him to get out of that job and go and find somewhere that isn’t ran by uneducated chava who thinks he’s the cast of shameless!! The young staff are better then that. Shame really as the food is delicious. Oh and I’m barred for life haha shame eh

Called in for fish and chips after visiting the aquarium, not disappointed, fish was on par with the best I’ve had but the chips and curry sauce were the best I’ve ever had, really friendly staff taking the order and serving food, 2 minute wait for the food and a lovely view

We visited at the end of an extremely long hot Summer Holidays heatwave day & the staff were amazing- food delicious- haddock cooked whilst we waited & when I asked for our order to be wrapped just in paper this was done beautifully- thank you

I have been coming to this chip shop for years now and over these years my only issue has been the two older women who stand at the back and fry the food, who I assume are the owners. Over the years I have watched them be rude and horrible to their young staff who are so polite and have great customer service skills. However, recently I watched the owners be horrible about a disabled man on two seperate occasions. Sniggering and laughing at him when he is trying to order and twisting their faces. This is absolutely appalling and disgusting and I will not be coming back there again as I do not support that behaviour. Disgusting people.

Visited here yesterday. Young staff lovely and helpful. Manager at the back of the shop was shouting at young staff 'you the useless one, come here' she went on to roll her eyes at a disabled customer saying 'oh God' when he walked in and that she was surprised he had any money. Disgraceful.

Firstly parking - not the easiest place to park near but that is the only negative. Four of us went to Bill's yesterday lunch time and were greeted by a nice young lad who, we found, was the waiter and he looked after us very well indeed- nothing was too much of a trouble for him. We all had the £7.50 pensioners special and to be honest this was no pensioners meal. Normally small fish and small portion of chips - at Bill's it was big boys portions and very good too. Mind you I was the only one with a clean plate at the end on our table - too good to waste and I liked the challenge ! The fish batter was good and crunchy and the chips, although slightly overdone for my liking, were hot and tasty. Our meals came with mushy peas, bread and butter and a big pot of tea - good value for money. If you can find a parking space nearby give Bill's a try - you wont be disappointed.

After enjoying a seaside walk from Whitley Bay to Tynemouth and back, we decided to give Bill's a try and what a pleasant surprise it was. Staff in upstairs café were brilliant, friendly and mindful. Meal was great consisting of Cod and Chips ,Mushy peas with Bread and Butter and a pot of tea. What a treat.

Word of advice to all out there DO NOT USE DURING THE WEEK was there on Wednesday 24th April was told at 6.45 that they were closing at 7 and the fryers were off since found out they lied weekend staff are amazing and the food is great if you want great fish and chips visit on a weekend rather than through the week as the lads working are liars and can't cook to save their lives and management don't take your complaints seriously

I love this chippy and make sure I visit whenever I am in the area. Not once have I been disappointed with either the freshness or the portion size.

Tried to get to our usual place in Whitley Bay but there was a Classic Car Show on the Links so the area was packed. Decided to drive along to Tynemouth and passed this little place en route and decided to give it a go. Glad we did as everything was absolutely spot on. Sat outside on a lovely late summer afternoon and enjoyed some lovely well cooked fish and chips. Only criticism was there was a bit of a queue and only one person actually serving. But that’s nitpicking. The end result was well worth waiting for.

Fish and chips weren’t bad, expensive for what you receive, though. However, the most miserable man/boy in glasses served us, no smiles, no interaction, grunts and mumbles were the level of his customer service skills. Won’t be rushing back, far better very nearby.

The whole experience of just ordering 2 cod and chips is something to write about!! After been greeted with “what u after “ by a young chap my order was placed. Cod was cooked fresh other young chap the fish fryer had he’s earphones in. When the cod was ready the fish was slammed on the box ,the box was slammed on the counter , the curry pot lid was slammed and rattled down ,not a kind word or smile the whole 10 minutes of been in the shop i found unpleasant ... wouldn’t return for the sheer lack and vile customer service received.

Nice crispy bater and soft fish inside, very tasty . just the right amount of chips. did feel like we were being naught asking to put salt and vinegar on ourselves but we like a lot on our chips and staff a bit miserable so can understand some of the reviews but overlal the food was very tasty so we would come back

Very expensive and really shady small portions of very greasy grub, just a single portion of chips is £2 and you barely get a handful of them served in one half side of a polystyrene burger carton, this place is a blight on Cullercoats and the whole North east coast, real shame as it is in a prime spot to capitalise on but instead just rips people off, take a walk in any direction and buy from anywhere else and get much better food and value and not have your food served in polystyrene!!! I certainly will never ever go back no matter how hungry i am when at the coast.

Sad to see that you are still using polystyrene containers. I regularly participate in beach cleans at Cullercoats and fill bags with this stuff, unfortunately lots of it will be missed so will end up in the sea then in sealife. Alteratives such as bagasse are only a penny or two more when bought in bulk. I'm sure your business would cope with a small increase in the cost of your fish and chips. People will eat there because of where it is and what your selling. Do us all a favour and ditch the polystyrene.

We had cod and chips and steak pie, chips and curry sauce. The portions are very good and the curry sauce is really good. However the fish may well have been cooked a few hours early and was starting to dry out and the pie crust was very thick although it did seem full of meat. The best thing about this food is the view from the restaurant. I think that fish and chips by the seaside will be fresh and really tasty so it was a shame w ate here as we he travelled 30 miles for a Friday night fish supper overlooking the beach.

Called here as we were really struggling to find somewhere decent to eat. Our days out always include a nice meal and maybe a cheeky bottle of wine, but we couldn't find anything like that. Went upstairs to sit down in the restaurant which was more like a little cafe with formica tables which were squashed together.

Very good fish/chips/sausages when busy but a bit bland when quiet. Friers need to be kept running. Staff are great. Needs more custom.... not their fault that the ques build up on a sunny day!!

I love fish and chips and the coast and Bill's ticks all of the boxes. No fancy fine dining here - just good quality fish and proper chips. There is a nice cafe at the top with great sea views too if you don't fancy a take-away.

Visited with my sister on a Tuesday afternoon! The fish and chips were lovely, no complaints whatsoever! We were served by a young lad who made our day by going the extra mile and giving us a free pot of peas for an easy mistake! Definitely try if you are in the area

We like to walk from Tynemouth to Cullercoats and it is very difficult to pass the establishment without stopping for a bag odd chips or perhaps more. It is always busy - be prepared to wait.

I'm going to be kind here and give a two rating (based on using this place in the past) but I went here on New Year's Day and the chips with the fish were awful. They were brown and looked as if they'd been hugely overcooked or fried in dirty oil. The fish wasn't much better. Due to the area being busy, it was my daughter who bought the meal. I was parked up one hundred yards away, otherwise I wouldn't have paid for it, I would have demanded better or would have walked out. We normally go to the Harbour View, up at Seaton Sluice, which is always spot on.

Don't understand the bad reviews on here, nice fish and chips, never tried the pizza or kebab, cos it's a proper fish shop and doesn't sell them. I gauge good fish and chips by; doesn't need ketchup. These don't need it.

Went for late lunch as few places now open. Cost for fish chips, drinks, scampi for 3 a reasonable £20. Clean tidy shop, pleasant staff. Chips rather greasy, skin left on fish which was rather tasteless. Batter nice and crispy, good sized portions but will not return.

Stopped at this place during a sponsored walk yesterday Saturday 30 October and thought we'd enjoy some fish and chips (which were bound to be delicious) from a place next to the sea seaside. Both the fish and chips were dreadful and certainly not fresh. The fish was greasy and wafer thin I suspected it had been recooked as there seemed to be 2 coatings of batter on the fish and the chips tasted as they'd been around along time. Service was equally dismal. We were the only customers there (1230) so perhaps we were the only people that hadn't heard of this place's reputation.

Estamos siempre nervioso tratando tiendas de chocolate cuando en vacaciones ya que hemos tenido tantas malas. Este fue preparado uno de los mejores que he probado. La mujer era extremadamente amable y servicial. Nos gustó tanto que volvimos la noche siguiente. Mi marido tenía pescado y patatas fritas y salchichas la primera noche al lado, me encantó. Tengo queso salado y patatas fritas, me encantó. Mi hija tenía una porción menor de patatas fritas y patatas fritas cursi primera vez al siguiente, me encantó.

He visitado este bar de pescado mientras visitaba parientes localmente. Mi compañero tenía un bacalao y patatas fritas y yo tuvimos una comida de pescado ninguno. Creo que dando tres de cinco en la generosa es probablemente lateral. Los peces parecía decente, pero había sólo una pequeña porción de patatas fritas para acompañar. Mi salchicha era razonable. En general la comida estaba tibia y un poco cansados. Yo era consciente de que había un restaurante en el piso superior con asientos. No es inusual para las tiendas chip a orillas de ser pobres en comparación con los del interior, y este establecimiento mantiene la tradición viva. Recomiendo una visita al muelle de pescado para una selección de protectores del norte mucho mejor de los locales.

Sunny day at cullercoats and what better than traditional fish and chips mushy peas with bread and butter and a pot of tea, with great portions and fast service in the restaurant up the stairs above the shop Will be returning on my next visit

Pleasantly surprised by the size and quality of the senior citizens fish, chips and peas lunch. Served with bread and butter and a pot of tea. Reasonably priced and good service. Recommend it for anyone wanting a decent fish and chip lunch while visiting the resort of Cullercoats.

I do not live anywhere near a fish and chip shop, so on a visit to Cullercoats with my sisters for a trip to the Family Heritage Centre, I looked forward to a treat at Bill's Fish Bar. The stair to the restaurant are very steep and in need of decorating, as is the restaurant - very tatty. However, we got the table in front of the bay window with its unsurpassed views across Cullercoats Bay to Tynemouth on a glorious sunny Autumn day, so that was good. We ordered 2 haddocks and one cod, well done please, and when the plates arrived, there were good portions, the chips nice and fresh and crisp. But oh the fish! The batter was uncooked underneath, and, my fish, anyway, was slimy and undercooked, and I do not believe it was haddock - unidentifiable, really. I would have complained and asked for a replacement, but this was my sister's day out treat for my birthday (we used to live in Cullercoats as children) and I did not want to upset her by making a fuss. But I would never go back there. In fact reading the reviews of all the eateries in Cullercoats, and noting the high prices, I suggest taking a picnic or some pies to eat if visiting Cullercoats.

I'm sorry but some of the recent reviewers reports are very confusing and misleading. We have been to "Billy's " quite a few times and have enjoyed every visit. We were there yesterday and had the Pensioners Special , cod and chips with mushy peas , bread and butter, pot of tea. Largest cod I've had in ages, very tasty and well worth the £5.30 per portion. The place was full and there were no complaints to be heard from any of the tables. Well done to the staff who were friendly and efficient.

Went in the school holidays, should have listened to my instinct & left. steep dingy steps to be treated by the welcoming sign "pensioner special only for pensioners". For the pensioners who can manage access well done indeed. A few people eating, ignored by the young waitress and older man so sat ourselves. we were told to ask our children to be quiet. They've eaten out in restaurants all their lives, nice one too! Never once been asked this. They were chatting with a friends children, but never left their seats or raised their voices once, none of the handful of other diners were bothered. Waited over 30 minutes when its part of a chip shop down stairs, food was average at best can not understand why the wait. Wont be back, wouldn't recommend. Greasy chippy- not a restaurant with service to match. I hate a keyboard warrior/critic but feel that families need to know whats in store here.

Luke warm and bland cod and chips. What a waste of good ingredients. Fish hadn't been skinned and the whole lot was greasy. Staff not interested and just going through the motions. Would not recommend a visit here.

Lovely staff in the upstairs restaurant. The haddock is normally very good, but this time is was tasteless even though it was fresh so we were rather disappointed. Went to the Waterfront a couple of days later where the haddock was delicious so it must be where Bills gets its fish from.

Firstly for clarity i dont come on here and write reviews unless i find sonewhere good with matching customer service or unless something has really went wrong as im sceptical it is much opinion based, so i only post fact.Arrived at Bill's appeoximately 13:30, webt to restraunt area upstairs where few tables were available, the flooring could have dine with a bit of a clean with odd food lying but nothin major just an observation, if you were new or first time customer. I ordered Haddock & Chips twice with tea bread & butter with mushy peas which cost £15.50. I dont use here to often as have found incosistent. Bank holiday i walked by and the fryers smelt awful, so was apprehensive but did smell nice today and because i was indecisive decided to go in today with my wife. To say was tasteless was understatement I really wanted to order another cup tea. Chips were dry and fish literally tasteless.Reading my feedback review is concerning in respect looking at previous reviews around bank holiday when i didnt attend but my gut feeling appears right from other people.For the owners or Bill? Whats going so wrong your loosing really good customers and potentially new in what is in a great location!I complained today to a young lad asnd said he would inform the cooks and even offered free bottle water for how dry the dinner was. Please review current standards and recent reviews. It was shocking today and my wife said it was the worst fish & chips shes had ever!

We had fish and chips take away on Saturday afternoon whilst visiting the area.. If only we had read the reviews first. How can you get chips so wrong??? The oil must be old... I've never in my life had such disgusting fish and chips.. How are the chips brown and tasteless? We didn't eat the fish it all went into the bin. Absolutely disgusting and a waste of hard earned money.

The rude staff and the filthy counter really did make me want to walk out. however i was starving and this was my last option. I have to say the chips were ok. But the way the 2 young lads behind the counter were talking to people was disgraceful. And the dozen or so cold chips, randon piles of batter, smeared grease, pools of vinger and strewn salt all over the counter top were disgusting. Owner:- dont except "we were busy and just didnt have time" it was quite and this stuff was a full days droppings. I even saw a dropped fish bite get picked back up and put back into someones order.
