Very dissatisfied with the service in the shop. I bought 3 fat rascals for £10.50 I only had twenty pound notes as I had just been to the cash machine. I offered the salesperson 50p to save their change she put the £20 in the till put £10 on the counter took the 50p from me and the £10. I explained what she had done she said she didn’t understand and would get a manager who then came and said she would have to count the takings in the till and to do this would have to close the shop. I said it would be fine to do it after hours and then contact me I left my name and number. 2 weeks have passed and I am still waiting to hear

We dropped in to Betty’s Tea Room at Northallerton for light birthday lunch - what a lovely atmosphere. Just for a moment it felt like we could have stepped back in time. Dawn our waitress was so friendly, yet professional and so attentive. Just as we were leaving and she went to get the bill she ran back with two small lit cakes, as she learned we were celebrating our birthdays - thank you for making our visit so special and special thanks to Dawn!

I went there as it's a popular tourist spot and I expected quality service. The food was okay. Extremely long wait time unfortunately and the staff as attentive as they were could not make the price worth the quality of the food. I'm sorry for only leaving three stars as I genuinely liked my server but I want to be honest

My husband and I ordered afternoon tea priced at £30 per head and what a disappointment. We each had 4 triangle sandwiches with crusts removed, a standard scone with jam and cream and 3 tiny bite size cakes and a pot of tea. No choice of scone and no whiff of anything savoury. How can Betty’s justify charging £60 for 2 afternoon teas and producing this mediocre food. Talk about feeling ripped off! Never again!

Each time we travel to Yorkshire we always make time to get to a Bettys, mostly this branch in Northallerton as the parking in the high street is quite easy, although you have to pay now. I always have an individual curd tart & hubby normally the day rascal, with the obligatory pot of tea 😂 When I went to pay the bill I did notice that the prices have certainly risen £22 for 2 cakes & tea!! But it’s only once a year.

A birthday celebration of afternoon tea for two. Very disappointing. at 3.10 pm on a weekday afternoon. Very disappointing. Afternoon Teas was not available owing to the fact, we were told, that scones were not available. A few minutes later we saw scones being served to another table. How? if they were not available at 3.10 pm were they available at 3.30? Very disappointing. Simply NOT good enough. Apart from the above, everything would appear to be overpriced.

Afternoon tea for my sisters Birthday. £30 each for a pot of tea, 4 crustless sandwich quarters , a standard fruit scone with cream and jam and 3 finger cakes , apple crumble, treacle sponge and a chocolate torte. When they bought the display out I thought it was for one. The selection of 3 finger cakes was awful, there was no choice. No scone selection . You get what you’re given Totally disappointed. Felt robbed. Done it once, won’t be doing it again. £60 for 2 of us for 1/2hr mediocre visit.

My wife and I visited for lunch on valentine's day. We had to queue which was expected to be honest but finally got a seat after approx 40 minutes. As ever the cafe is lovely and the staff were as attentive as they could given how busy it was. The food however was a little disappointing. We both had Rosti - mine was with raclette cheese and bacon, and my wife had the Florentine with spinach, tomatoes and mushroom. Unfortunately both were a little undercooked leaving the potato quite soggy and unappetising. Although not the worst meal we've eaten, the prices Betty's charge should mean perfection, especially given that Rosti is a Betty's speciality. This isn't the first time we've been disappointed at Betty's either - we've chalked previous issues up as one-offs but it's now happened enough to put us off visiting at all, which is a shame.

We’ve been several times before but think it’s our last. Lovely building and old fashioned style but vastly overpriced. I had the Yorkshire Rarebit which was very bland at c£17 and my husband had the Swiss Breakfast at c£18 - rosti with egg, 1/2 tomato, mushroom and rasher of bacon. Very poor value for money. Service is good and very nice staff but at that price we did not leave a tip as I hope Bettys are paying their staff more than average pay!

I’ve been here numerous times and the staff are always lovely. After going for my birthday we were first scolded for not wanting to stand in the rain and trying to get in the front door. We were finally offered a table after 40 mins, we were told we could take a smaller table or wait another hour. We took the table and asked if we could have another chair as it was easier to sit on chairs than the bench. The manager told me no, under no circumstances and then said ‘I told you this table was small and you agreed to sit there’ she then crouched down and got close to my face and scolded me like a 5 year old. We walked out, the waitress near by apologised and said she understand why we wanted to leave and that her manager is always rude to people. Poor staff. Our lovely young waiter was clearly frightened of her, not how you should be treating young staff.

My partner treated me to brunch at Betty’s Northallerton. We were served by a lovely young lady who easily answered our questions. I had eggs royale which were well cooked and delicious with plenty of salmon. I also had a cafetière of the house blend coffee which was lovely. My partner had eggs benadict and a pot of English breakfast tea which he also enjoyed. A lovely treat but a little expensive. My only disappointment was with the limited choice of coffee served in a cafetière, only 3, the house blend and 2 single origin coffees. I remember when there would be at choice of 6 or more single origin coffees on the menu.

My order was taken and repeated back to me as we had to change the sandwich order, due to a fish and seafood allergy. The person was polite, courteous and professional. We came in for a light lunch of a sandwich and pot of tea. I had a chicken salad sandwich, served with a few leaves and side salad. It was quite a nice sandwich but very small and very expensive at about £8. The tea was nice but again pricey at £6 per pot. We then bought cakes to takeaway as well as packets of ground coffee which had been substantially reduced. The cakes are super quality and I don't mind paying for them. Service is formal.

Waitress was very stroppy and acted as though we were inconveniencing her. Tap water was warm so I asked for bottled water. I asked for the glass without ice or lemon/lime. It arrived with a slice and ice. The server immediately poured it. I asked for it again without ice and a slice of lime. She clearly wasn’t very happy at all and snapped that she would go and get another glass. We asked for mayo for the fries as well (they’re pommes she snapped) and she actually rolled her eyes! She returned with the mayo, gave a giant sigh and asked where we wanted it. She was clearly really unhappy with us and we seemed to be inconveniencing her. We asked for the bill but it took a further 20 mins for the card machine to arrive despite asking again for it. We were really disappointed as this service falls far short of the service we usually receive. The surly attitude was uncalled for and not what I’d expect from Betty’s

The food and service was easily on a par with Betty's in York, but the dining room was much less crowded in Northallerton. The kedgeree was absolutely first rate. Over many visits I have enjoyed delicious spiced carrot and chickpea cakes. However yesterday was a huge let down. The cakes were mostly carrot, there was no texture other than the outside coating and absolutely no spicing! Consequently the cakes were bland and almost mushy. Based on yesterday's experience, I would have to conclude that this meal was grossly overpriced and needs a complete rethink.

Just popped in her for a milkshake. Betty’s has a reputation as a posh Tea Room. This was a nice team room and although we were not dressed in our Sunday best shown to a table by pleasant member of staff. We were offered where to sit rather than directed to outside as well as in. We opted for in. The milkshake was nice. We did spy the Sundae they looked really nice. Slightly more pricey than most Tea shops but very clean with classic traditional décor and service. My boyfriend will not stop going on about how great his breakfast was at Bettys, and no breakfast after this has come close. I had the breakfast special rosti and he had a fry up, everything was perfectly cooked - especially the scrambled eggs. The...

Great food and drinks as usual. Lovely and spaced out with loads of space between other tables. Great extra feature of being able to order food from the shop to take home whilst sat at your table in the cafe and it being brought over...

My Grandma has loved Betty's for years and everytime I would visit as a child we would go and have afternoon tea. My Grandma is now 90 and can no longer walk more than a step by herself. I have not seen her for a...

Like many folk I`ve heard tales of afternoon tea at Bettys with silver service and waitresses in starched pinafores. Well you do get that, usually after a long wait to get in, but what followed for us was a distinct anti-climax. The sandwiches are four...

We picked a time when no waiting, but busy when we came out, but they had shop waiting folks in differant line to Restraunt, very well sorted. Restraunt now has less tables so space, Staff still very friendly and helpful, wearing masks. Still great place...

Nice enough afternoon tea, nothing spectacular about it though. Think I was expecting more to be honest. I really wanted to try it and treat my mother as we were in the area. I’ve had better though although it was nice, just a bit underwhelming....

In general I had gone off afternoon tea, having had several overpriced/mass produced/overly sweet experiences elsewhere, but Bettys is in a completely different league. You could tell that every element had been carefully thought through, and was absolutely delicious. The sandwiches were excellent, from the...

First time staying there. Friendly and helpful staff, and the room was spotless. Definitely worth the money

After some pretty bad fish and chip cafes in Fife I remembered a visit my wife, daughter, granddaughter and I had to this place. The service was good, the restaurant was very clean and the fish suppers were bang on. Not a hint of grease and the fish still moist and perfectly cooked. Even the tea was decent.

Lovely village pub. Very polite and attentive service and delicious food. Chocolate delice is very rich as it should be and we would certainly share in the future. We visited on a quiet evening so cannot really comment on the atmosphere. They have extensive and beautifully situated beet garden.

We are not local to this area, but decided to come here as it said there was a good wood fired pizza! The pizza was lovely. After, I had the warm chocolate fudge cake which was a great pudding. Atmosphere was also quiet and warm. Great pub
