A relative & I had been to Berry's once before a few years ago for coffee & having enjoyed our visit I looked forward to going again. I & several members of our family were going to be staying for a few days near Church Stretton & I thought it would be lovely to go to Berry's for brunch on Sunday, June 17th. Knowing that would be Father's Day, I rang 'Berry's' in advance to request a 10.30a.m. table booking for brunch for our family group of six adults and two children. My booking was accepted and I was told that there would be a charge of £10.00 for a room, plus £1.00 per person, to which I agreed. As it turned out, there were only five of us adults (& the two children) as my nephew was unwell & unable to join us. We arrived a few minutes before 10.30a.m. & there were a number of people already seated, but the place was by no means full. After a few minutes ones of the serving staff led us through a couple of little corridors to a room away from the rest of the coffee shop. She explained that they were short-staffed that day, which we quite understood & I was glad that I'd booked in advance. The room to which we were taken had a very large table, with the (fabric covered) chair seats upturned onto the table & we didn't mind helping set the chairs back on the floor. The member of staff left the room & after about a quarter of an hour one of our party went to let the staff know that we were ready to order & also to request that the table be wiped, as the table cover was rather sticky in places, with crumbs here & there - this was the surface onto which the chair seats had been upturned. Some minutes later the same member of staff arrived, wiped the table, returned soon after and took our order which included a request for dairy-free spread on the toast of one of the two children, who has an allergy to dairy products. Our order included drinks & those were brought to us shortly after. The two children (aged six & nine) were kept amused with colouring books whilst we waited & they were very patient, although getting hungry. Once about three-quarters of an hour had elapsed I went to ask when we could expect the food we'd ordered to be served. Another apology was made, re being short-staffed - I did observe though that a fair few people had arrived since we had been ushered away ('out of sight, out of mind') and these folk were already eating! A different member of the serving staff came to the room a few minutes later to offer us complimentary drinks - we asked for (and fairly quickly received) a cup of coffee for one of the family and a jug of water. The children were still being incredibly patient, but were really hungry by now, so their father walked back to the car park, bringing back a cereal bar for them. Our plates of food finally started arriving just after noon - an hour and a half after we'd arrived. Two of the meals ordered were the 'Farmer's Wife's Breakfast', one of which was for the child who needed the toast on the plate to be dairy-free, as their mother had requested when ordering. The members of staff who brought those two breakfast didn't know though when we enquired whether either plate had dairy-free spread on the toast, so took the child's plate away again, in spite of the children's mother saying it would be fine to just replace the toast. When a member of staff next appeared we asked for cutlery, as none had appeared - most of our meals were by now on the table cooling down. Then just one set of cutlery was brought, rather than cutlery for all of us - I think that by then the serving staff realised how very wrong everything had gone and had perhaps been thrown into a bit of a panic. Eventually then we had our food, albeit only warm by the time the cutlery arrived. We had been staying locally to celebrate my sister's birthday & as this was our last day together we'd planned to go to Stokesay Castle before going our separate ways as we live in different parts of the country, but we agreed as we ate that there simply wasn't sufficient time for that now. No Manager had appeared at any point to apologise for all that had gone wrong with our booking during the couple of hours that we were there. I went to pay our bill & not only was a further apology not forthcoming for the terrible delay we'd endured, but no offer of a reduction to the bill was offered either & when I asked for a reduction, the response I received was that we could pay £80.00 instead of just over £90.00. I said that I did not feel that was a sufficient reduction to the bill & was told that I could speak with the Manager & a chap then came to the pay area. He was completely unapologetic, saying that we had been told on arrival that they were short-staffed & busy & said " ... that's why we don't take bookings". I told him that a booking had in fact been taken by his staff & that I was only prepared to pay £65.00 - the cost of what we'd had to eat & drink. The manager accepted albeit grudgingly & disappeared again, leaving a member of his staff to take the payment. This entire experience soured our final day together that weekend as a family & I felt very embarrassed as I'd enthused about what a lovely place Berry's was. Had the manager been supervising the kitchen & serving staff properly, as someone with that responsibility should, the situation would not have arisen. Moreover if he'd had the good grace at some point (any point!) during the time we were there to come to us & apologise for the delay & if he'd then applied an appropriate reduction to the bill then I would not have felt the need to write this negative review.

Visited for lunch after reading good reviews and menu but we were disappointed in both venue and food. We decided to sit outside as the cafe was busy so everyone inside were close together but the courtyard was unkempt and a rat-trap just by our table was somewhat off-putting (would have left if we had noticed it initially). My soup and scone with cheese was ok but pricey & my tea cup was not clean, my son's shropshire rarebit very tasty but my husband's ham sandwich was not unlike a supermarket one, the total bill over £10 more than a nearby cafe for similar items. Definitely style over substance!!

What a lovely quaint place, lots of 'rooms' and outside place and sparkly clean toilets. The first thing was a recommendation by a passer by of where to eat, and they were not local either. Then once I saw the menu, which for a dairy free person was a must......, also had a vegan scone, so although full ... I found a place for that! Its not often I can eat happily with ease of choice, even had a granary bread with no milk. It was quite a rustic type of place, and the sight of such fantastic cakes (all under cover) when you come in was divine. Staff were friendly too, so what not to like, everything was such a happy experience. We left feeling light hearted and full! Three friends - one Ploughmans, one Quiche and one Hummus - plus a scone.

When we visit Church Stretton we always make a beeline for Berrys. This time things were a little different, placing a takeaway order down the side passage from their pared down menu, and very fortunately getting one of the tables in the sunny courtyard. But some things will always be the same. Lovely cheerful staff, yummy food and my favourite raspberry Bakewell tart. Suddenly the world feels right again. Thank you Berrys for providing just the essentials to cheer us up when we need it. We made three visits this week and enjoyed the toasted sandwiches, bacon and sausage sandwiches and halloumi and sun dried tomato sandwich. Also enjoyed the coffee and walnut cake, brownies and the elderflower cake too. We had to do a lot of walking to justify scoffing all this, but it was so worth it.

Excellent tearoom (I think this description fits it better than 'coffeehouse'). Lovely building, well-designed small rooms providing several separate spaces, nice small garden, very good tea (proper tea leaves in pot with strainer), excellent cakes, nice lunches, excellent service. Good attention to Covid-19 safety precautions. Staff wearing face coverings. We visited Berry's several times during our week's stay in Church Stretton for lunch and afternoon tea. Our favourite cake was the Elderflower, almond and pistachio, which we had several times and it was always really moist and fresh. Can't fault them on anything, except that they don't take bookings. So when we arrived once around 2pm and it was full they wouldn't save us a table for a later time so we had to return and hope one was free (it was). Mid-afternoon we had no trouble getting in straight away. Will definitely go back there next time we're in Church Stretton or nearby.I assume for most special occasions it wouldn't be suitable as they don't take table bookings and it's small, but there's no harm in asking if they can make special arrangements for exceptional reasons (eg a group wishing to book the whole tearoom).

We love Berry's. We've visited multiple times each time we come to the Shropshire Hills for a holiday. Berry's is always the perfect place for a late lunch after a long walk. Or an early brunch before a long walk! Staff are always very friendly and knowledgeable. All of the food we've eaten here has been so good. And bonus points for knowing it's all locally sourced and supplied by people who are passionate about food. On our most recent visit, after a walk to see the Stiperstones, we arrived midafternoon when the lunch rush was over. It was very quiet and we had one of the dining rooms to ourselves. We enjoyed the ploughman's and the Staffordshire oatcakes with hummus, olives and sundried tomatoes. Decaf flat whites were good, silky smooth foam with the right bite of coffee. We usually have (or make) room for cake but this time our main courses defeated us!

Greeted by lovely waitress. Menu covers everything you could want. We had the husband/wife brekkys. Hot, fresh and delish. Cakes looked amazing. Lots of quirky comfy areas to sit in. Recommend for a relaxed and tasty stop.

Visited three times during our holiday in the area. We love the leaf teas, cosy ambience, friendly service, top quality locally sourced food and interesting multi room set up. The old fashioned feel is just perfect and not contrived. The attention to detail with the sourcing of the food, preparation and presentation is inspiring. We have sampled, Shropshire rarebit, various savoury tarts, sandwiches, cakes and leaf teas and coffee. All superb. We love this place, and can’t wait to visit again.

Serves LEAF tea!! The Brits seemingly having forgotten how to make tea. Meals also delicious. The accommodation consists of several small rooms with a lovely outside area into the bargain. Friendly staff, prompt service.

We spent two sessions here during rainy periods. We drank a range of teas (English Breakfast, Kenya blend, Rooibos and the astonishing red berry cocktail tea, all made from loose leaves), we ate some cakes (best bakewell tart I can remember), had mushroom and parsley soup (where have you been all my life). All provided in a very uniquely characterful environment by friendly staff. The best.

Came here for tea a couple of times on a recent visit to Church Stretton on the recommendation of my partner, who had visited some years back. Lovely place just off one of the main streets and rightly popular with the locals and visitors. Warm welcome from friendly staff and very fast service. On both occasions we sat out the back in the delightful courtyard and enjoyed the peace and quiet so near the town centre. The afternoon tea brew is very good indeed and the cakes are dangerously delightful.

Lovely find, gorgeous eating house, several small rooms in an 18th century house. Nice courtyard area. Some rooms and the courtyard are dog friendly. The staff were friendly and helpful, Good choice of food, as it was lunch time we only had a sandwich but it was delicious, Somerset Brie and bacon on granary bread with side salad and crisps. Nicely presented, cost £4.50.

The place has a good feel, probably as it is owner managed and not part of a chain. Service wasn't as smooth as it could have been, they might have been short staffed on the day though. One waitress did take a picture of our group for us though.

Being the Bank Holiday weekend, we thought it best to book a table (for 7), which was a good move as it was pleasantly busy for a Friday lunchtime. We arrived and were escorted out the back, to the front room. The walk took us past cakes, bread and crisps (and lots of other boxes) that were to be used in the kitchen. Nice big room with one large table, all to ourselves.

Took my elderly mum in here (originally for lunch). Waited to be seated by a little table with a bell just through the door. And waited.. When eventually told could sit where we liked found some tables only for 3/4people -ok fair enough. Sat reading the menu and decided on very nice sounding sandwiches but waited and waited for our order to be taken and in the end decided just to have tea and scones because we were running out of time. Scones were delicious when they eventually came but gather they had been taken to the wrong table. Asked waitress where we paid was told at table on the way out. So stood there waiting and waiting again despite a waitress coming and collecting cakes right by us and ringing the bell. Bearing in mind my mum can't stand for very long and we had an appointment elsewhere I found our table chit laid out on the little table and put the money on it and told the customers on a nearby table. Must have spent half hour at least waiting and ten minutes eating. Not all tables were full either so that not an excuse. What a pity because food was lovely.

Locally sources ingredients and home cooked cakes beautifully cooked and presented, what more could you want from a coffee house. We visited for breakfast and lunch and everything was served piping hot and well presented, the courtyard is a great sun trap but the other rooms are equally as great to sit in. A fabulous and very busy coffee house the best we found in the village

We went for a simple lunch on a rainy Tuesday in July. We all had the soup of the day, which was roasted sweet potato and carrot. It came with a choice of cheese scone or brown or white bread. Everything was tasty and we were served in good time. We thought it very sensible that they reserved the larger tables for larger groups of diners, otherwise we may not have been able to find seats in this popular cafe.

A very interesting, individual cafe much better than a chain coffee place. Nice seating areas both inside and out. The coffee tasted good but I do prefer a more contemporary cup/mug rather than the 'village hall' type of crockery.

Looking for somewhere to go on a rainy afternoon, I stumbled across this coffee house/tearoom on the internet. The cream tea was excellent, although (arguably) on the pricey side). Service was friendly and the coffee house itself is a quirky building with a lot of character. Would recommend to anyone in the area.

So let’s start with “wow”! The breakfast served in this cosy establishment is to die for! I’ve now tried their famed “Farmer’s Breakfast” on numerous occasions and it seems to get better every time. The produce is of outstanding quality. The staff are attentive and adorably kind, with a certain waitress that seems to always remember the small details in each member of my family’s order. I should add that i’ve tried the scones and cakes and they don’t disappoint: all top notch! A really worthwhile experience that I would highly recommend to all who visit Church Stretton.

we always try to come here when we can get in and don’t fancy cooking one ourselves. the meat selection is always good and very generous, their roast potatoes are the best - lovely and crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. it is a carvery so can help yourself. they unfortunately don’t have any mash but we just add extra roasties! their gravy is lovely and homemade with the meat juices in. the staff are lovely and attentive. our favourite place to go for sunday lunch!

We booked for dinner as we knew the White Lion had reopened for food with a new chef. We were not disappointed the food was delicious, we had the rib eye steak, the sea bass special and the penne vodka. All were beautifully cooked and served. The service was great and the staff were friendly. We will definitely be eating here again.

We are regular visitors to the Red Lion in Myddle. We return every time because the food and service is second to none. We always receive a warm welcome and we know how hard Pete and Jackie and staff work to make sure that their guests are not disappointed. If you fancy a meal out around Shrewsbury (lunch or dinner) then look no further than the Red Lion. You won’t regret it.
