Berkeley Arms in Portsmouth

We popped in without a reservation on a Saturday lunchtime and luckily they had a table for us. The pub was buzzing with happy people, clearly lots of locals too which is always a good sign. We had three courses - hadn’t planned to but the food was just soooo good! The prawn cocktail was the best we’ve ever had, and mains were delicious. OH had sea bass and I had lambs liver. Both served piping hot and with fresh veg. One of my main beefs is when food isn’t hot enough. Not so here, well done Berkeley Arms. The sticky toffee pudding was to die for too. We live 20 mins away but we’ll most definitely be back!

11 of us, including 3 children aged 2 , 4 and 6 and they could not have been more welcoming. Food was very good, 3 of us had the pork which actually tasted of pork and all other meats were given the thumbs up. Individual portions of veg. good yorkies and ample gravy. Altogether excellent value.

We ate here twice while on a short break in Bosham. The food , service and the friendliness of the locals was lovely. We just had starters the first night as we had had a large lunch, tonight we ordered from the specials board and it was first rate. I wish we had a pub like this where we live.

nice pub friendly service but did not rate the roast at all, i had turkey it looked processed , a tiny amount of swede broccoli and red cabbage roast potatoes hard not not at all crispy , i was very disappointed , as a roast lover i would not go back

We had Sunday lunch recently while on holiday. I booked ahead and we were given a table in the bar as there was a large party in the restaurant. I had the small plate roast turkey with pigs in blankets (which are charged extra as a side dish). The 'pigs' were 2 full sized sausages wrapped in crisply bacon; there were also 2 large pieces of roast potato, a small Yorkshire pudding and a generous slice of turkey. My husband had the roast lamb (normal size portion). Both roasts were served with a dish each of mashed swede, red cabbage and broccoli. Everything was nice and hot and very tasty. We didn't have dessert as we were full. The staff were very friendly and made us feel welcome. I would definitely eat here again if/when we are in the area.

Big thank you to Meg and Linda who went above and beyond. Our dog fell in a ditch and to say he stank is an understatement. He smelt like wet dog and stagnant pond mixed with sewage. He didn’t mind but we were sleeping in our camper van that night and were not relishing the thought of being hermetically sealed in a van with a stinky dog for 8 or 9 hours. They very kindly let us hose him off, gave us some fairy liquid to clean him with and even gave us a towel to dry him off. After that he only smelt like wet dog which we are quite used to. That night after he had dried off the van had a lovely lemon fresh scent and we were able to sleep soundly. Thank you Meg and Linda. Friendly staff. Lovely food. Good beer. And fully working hose. 👍

The Anchor Bleu was fully booked but a warm welcome awaited here. Varied menu and a great specials board and reasonable prices. Choose between informal bar and restaurant. Lovely staff and lively crowd giving a good atmosphere. Excellent food probably the best sea bass I've ever had!

We are indebted to this pub. I had booked a table at another pub to have a celebratory lunch for my mum’s 90th birthday but unfortunately that pub has been flooded. Cue an SOS call to the Berkeley Arms two days ago who luckily had one table left. When we arrived today, they had been so kind and decorated the table with a lovely banner and flowers. It looked beautiful. The service was wonderful, the food fabulous. Lots of great seating outdoors too. We are, as a family, so grateful to Zoe and the team and will most definitely return.

A great pub with a good menu and a great chef. Excellent food & beer; much of it produced locally. But the evening was completely spoiled (again) by terrible live music with particularly bad uncoordinated tuneless drumming & singing. We would all return for dinner, but only on nights when there is none of this poor quality dreadful music. It was hard to recognise any of the songs. Please stick to just being a fantastic pub and book better musicians.

We popped in for a Sunday lunch and were given a table, the last one! The staff were so friendly and attentive, the pub was packed but they made every effort to check in. A pleasant surprise to find such lovely staff, under pressure. We opted for the roasts, and yummy!! All plates were cleaned. 2 of us had pudding and the homemade bread and butter pudding was Devine… childhood memories came flooding back. Great, food, ambience, hospitality and highly recommend. AA++++

We were in Chichester for a Concert and the Goodwood Festival of Speed was cancelled due to high winds - so their visitors from up the road at Goodwood descended upon Chichester so it was very crowded. So we looked further afield for Lunch and came to Bosham. We were to dine in the evening so were looking for a light lunch and the choices were superb. We went for the Sandwiches - Roast Pork & Fish Finger followed by Mini Bakewell & Affogato - all sublime. We will be back!

Called in because we fancied lunch. Bar staff superb, efficient and friendly. Sunday lunchtime and our food arrived in less than 15 minutes. Delicious, well presented and beautifully prepared

The pub is in a lovely location in the heart of Old Bosham. I was pleased that it was a dog friendly pub that allowed them in the Bar Area, but not the Resturant . There was a good, varied choice available on the Menu and more options on the Specials Board, The only problem with that is where the Specials Board is situated, behind a table full of Diners on that particular day. I felt awkward having to stand behind them to view the board especially as they were still eating their lunch. The food I ordered was a good portion size and very tasty and nicely presented. I did request to see a Dessert Menu, it took quite a while to arrive and after 10 minutes nobody came to see if I required anything. I decided to leave as I had been left unattended and only then did one of the waitresses ask if I wanted anything. I used the washroom facilities on my way out, one of the cubicles had no toilet roll in it, the skirting boards could do with a lick of paint. Overall it was serviceable None of the above would stop me from returning to this establishment

Disappointing Lunch - ordered the smoked haddock gratin and cheese and chutney sandwich for my wife - sandwich was fine but gratin did not deliver and was poor value for money - small dish of smoked haddock in cream with dried breadcrumbs on top (not appetising at all) served with 4 new pots and salad which consisted of only leaves and slices of pepper - would have expected salad with cucumber / toms / onion at the very least - nice pub with friendly service - for a fullers pub would have expected better quality food

This is our second time here. Both times the food has been amazing, the staff are really friendly and the service is impeccable. Very highly recommend this pub!

One of the main reasons for our trips to Bosham is the Barclays Arms. The increased menu options for veggies and vegans was greatly appreciated. The team lead by a lovely chef host make make each visit special. Always a welcome for our dog Oscar. Hope to be back in Bosham soon.

The first time we have been and it’s was lovely. We all enjoyed our food and shared a bit of our lunch with each other. I had homemade beef burger my daughter had scampi and grandson had gammon egg and chips. We shared some of our food with each other and and enjoyed all of it. I will be going back there sometime in the near future.

We had a beautifully presented and very tasty vegetarian meal at the Berkeley Arms a few days ago. Really friendly and helpful staff, and a relaxed atmosphere. We'd definitely eat there again if we're in the area.

We had been disappointed elsewhere and wandered into The Berkeley Arms today at lunchtime hoping for a meal. Lovely warm welcome, friendly and efficient staff, menu with lots of choice even if you don't eat meat, and really tasty meals. Fantastic! So pleased we went there instead of our planned place. Will definitely visit again when in the area.

This pub and all the staff are quite simply the best around. We pre-booked a table for 14 and each and everyone of us had a superb meal with equally superb service. The food is perfectly priced and faultless. You deserve continued success and are a credit to the hospitality industry. Thannk you and well done!

We booked this pub as we were staying at concierge nearby for a family Xmas weekend. I called ahead and checked dogs were allowed and then booked online for 8 of us. On arrival we were told that our booking had been made in the restaurant and no dogs allowed - how was the is our fault ? We checked ahead and we did not book us in the ‘no dogs allowed restaurant’.? Also calling one half of the pub a restaurant and one half a bar was mad considering they were exactly the same ! The lady who dealt with us didn’t even want to entertain a solution - so so disappointing - the weekend before Christmas. Luckily we called the Swan up the road and they were more than happy to accommodate us and provided us with a lovely roast and such a hospitable atmosphere that we stayed all day 👏🏼👏🏼
