Benugo Bar & Kitchen in Coventry

We have visited twice this year with the aim of making our lives easier ahead of seeing a show, travelling from out of town. Both times Benugo's dreadful service has made things more difficult. We wrote the first experience off as a bad day. The second was just as bad so we won't be bothering again. Both times we got there for 5pm to beat the pre show rush. The first time there were three of us. They brought out two people's mains. Never returned to the table. I had to physically get up and approach one of the oblivious staff, aimlessly wandering in between the tables. We were basically told it was our fault, until a manager finally intervened at which point the meal was prepared and not charged. The second time, with the restaurant close to empty, we were left standing waiting to be seated inexplicably for 10 minutes while the zombie staff marched up and down between tables serving no-one and doing nothing. I took a few steps towards seating myself at one of their many empty tables and one of them sprang into life. The rest of the meal was promisingly uneventful barring a few very minor gripes. The food was just slightly better than okay (although when you're charging £18 for sausage and mash I think it ought to be incredible). The our plates were cleared. We were not offered the dessert menu, as they were cleared. We did - at this point - want the dessert menu. We expected the server would return shortly. They did not. We were never offered the menu or the bill despite sitting there over 30 minutes after our plates had been taken. Once again I had to take matters into my own hands and stand at the bar amongst the gaggle of employed but jobless staff members. I gruffly explained, when one of thel noticed me, the reasons for my dissatisfaction - and that we had planned on dessert but would not now give them our custom. They suggested taking the service charge off the bill, which I accepted. On the two visits: Food - Acceptable Pricing - Unacceptable Service - The Pits This is not the place for a quick pre-show bite - even at two hours out, you risk them making you late for the performance. Given that its housed inside the arts centre, you have to wonder why they're there.

The place was dirty, crowded with long queues and unhelpful staff, 2 choices of wine only. White wine served at room temperature.

I attempted to buy a pre-show drink but was told they would only allow takeaways. I have a disability and cannot carry drinks too far and need to sit down. There were mostly empty tables. People after us were served drinks and they sat at the empty tables - which is all I wanted to do. I felt that I was discriminated against. A poor experience of both Benugo and Warwick Arts Centre.

The food is really good quality: pizza is cheaper relative to other takeouts and of very good quality. The service is currently understaffed (no fault to the current waiters) so it takes a while sometimes to check out. The decor, music and the building it is in is really comfy. I think if they hired a bit more staff I would happily place this as one of my favourite places to dine out.

Ahead of commencing my masters, I booked for a group of 30 at Benugos and I was immensely impressed with their communications (emails and phonecalls) prior to the event and also the service they provided on the day. Thanks to the staff who delivered this excellent service - Catherine, Anjali, Sarah and Kira!

Ahmed was so so so nice and lovely had excellent energy the best service I’ve ever seen please visit and he was so attentive to our needs and made sure that all was okay. He was so passionate and lovely and the vibes of the restaurant was amazing. Everything was nice and clean and orderly.

We booked a table for a pre film dinner (which was confirmed online), arrived as planned, and found the restaurant closed!

Disappointed as we didn’t get to eat here. Booked a table for 7.15pm to eat after the cinema. Really enjoyed the film and cinema experience since the refurbishment. However…… To be told by the remaining staff that we: A: Haven’t got a booking B: The chef had been sent home because the restaurant was quiet is really not good enough. When we were at the front desk of the restaurant there was another couple in the same position who were equally disappointed. My advice is don’t book here until this system is changed. Warwick Arts Centre please look at the failures of the system and work with the restaurant management so that you can have your paying customers returning. On this recent experience, they won’t.

Overpriced, mediocre food. It came out suspiciously quickly leading us to believe it's just heated up. You'd think heating stuff up would mean they could have more options on the menu but it's VERY limited. It's essentially a Wetherspoons that charges you twice the price with half the menu choices. Think they get away with it because the choices nearby are limited. Order something to the bus interchange instead of going here.

Visited during a conference. The food was nice - we had a pizza each and they were very good - but the service was chaotic and inefficient. The table labels said to order at the bar but table service was running instead which was confusing. We ordered two drinks but one only turned up when we'd already nearly finished our meal. Trying to get someone to come over so we could pay was a bit of a mission - eventually another patron went and grabbed a member of staff to do several tables at once rather than doing one and wandering off. So if it's quiet I'd recommend, but if it's full I'd avoid.

Better than I expected and the price

Three of us ordered two piazzas and one burger. The service was good, friendly and attentive. The food was awful. Maybe they make the piazzas maybe they don't, but they tasted like cheap store ones simply heated. Very salty. The burger...meat was soggy, didn't taste great at all. Four hours later still could taste it...not a nice experience. It's presentation however was good. Two waters and a juice. £50 for the lot. Way way over priced. Weatherspoons would have been cheaper, with for more, and much much better tasting; and lets face it they are just a basic diner. For a diner on a student campus I think this is way over priced.

Yeah, decent enough we all enjoyed our food, the burgers were tasty and a good portion in particular - we could have been offered some condiments, cutlery and napkins when the dishes arrived but it didn't spoil the overall experience of an evening quick bite and pint - it has however lost them a star for the full score as it certainly is not a budget, no frills establishment and that's some fairly basic stuff - we'll be back again though and see if we can change that.

Food was good, coffee was good. But the person serving the food served the plate and left, didn’t check if there was cutlery or water, they weren’t on the table. I realised this after a few moments, had to ask for it at the counter. Would help if these little things taken care of.

Im very disappointed after my visit at Benugo today , and it looks like menu the was changed and there was nothing to choose from! Two sides to choose fries or side salad… ridiculous. When i want order pizza capriciousa they didn’t had ham and no artichoke . When comes to dessert only two option tiramisu and Eton Mess! But not eton mess was available !Very very Poor ! It’s used to be very nice food here this time i waist time to come here from other part of Coventry! Never again.very uncomfortable atmosphere. Two tables also came and walked out after checking card( not blaming anyone ).I will don’t coment over prices. This restaurant only good looks and stuff try to make anything but they don’t have tools to work honestly.

Everything else is fine but omg cook that chicken properly!! My second time getting poisoned by the chicken burger 🥲🥲

This is a great spot for a good-tasting meal and a couple of drinks. Our host, Ahmed, was kind and friendly. Relaxed atmosphere and wasn’t too busy when we went on a Friday evening.

We’ve eaten here a few times but only because there’s no alternative when visiting Warwick Arts Centre. This place seems to be run on the principle that customers are a bit of a nuisance but hey, you’ve got to let them in so ….. My real complaint though is directed at Warwick University management for outsourcing catering & then clearly washing their hands of it. Frontline staff do their best when dealing with a very limited menu, very limited serving times, poor quality food cooked with indifference and over the top prices. It’s beginning to be a reason for not visiting the Arts Centre and since we’re doubtless not alone in our experiences, alarm bells should be ringing in the Arts Centre offices (if they can be bothered to hear them).

The Warwick University campus is a great place to visit - even if you are not a student. A fantastic sculpture park, great concert hall and cinemas open to all. We were there to hear the Halle Orchestra in full cry and decided to try the fairly new Benugo Bar and Kitchen. The place was full of buzz and activity with a jazz band playing in the foyer. The menu at Benugo was fairly simple - lots of healthy options but favourites including burgers, lots of pasta dishes and salads of all sorts. It really is a fast turnaround establishment but we oldies were made very welcome by the most attentive Danielle. We enjoyed the experience and will use again when next visiting the concert hall. Advised to book in advance for a nice table.

Food was banging, our waiter Ahmed was top-tier - funny charismatic guy. Would come again just to talk to him. Impeccable service.

Myself and a friend went for what was supposed to be a celebratory lunch, but really descended into a terrible meal I hope soon to forget. One meal came out 30 minutes before the other, and when we eventually asked about it, they brought the pizza out, without sides or additions. When they brought it out, they said sorry it was late and said they would cover a drink. The pizza was cold and very very greasy, and we still managed to pay 45 pounds for a tiny, burnt burger, an oily pizza and two drinks. It would be one thing if the food was just bad, but the staff couldn't have cared less and stood at the bar chatting and ignoring us, refusing to apologise for what a mess it was. After spending an hour in there, we almost had to beg to pay before we could eventually escape. My friend went to the shops, got a few bits and came back and I still hadn't managed to flag anyone down to take my money so I could leave. I paid almost 50 pounds for a terrible experience, I almost can't believe it still. Save yourself time, just slap yourself in the face and don't enter this establishment.

What absolute rotten service and quality. Made a booking but the waiter insisted I booked a high chair which I didn’t and had to sort a seat for an adult ourselves. Food took a rather long time to come out and when it did - we got the wrong size pizza After complaining to 2 waiters none of whom came to the table to help or came afterwards to check, I had to go back to the queue to ask the cashier if I really paid £12 for a kid’s pizza… but no, I did order and pay for a 12 inch pizza, they just brought the wrong size to my table but insisted I made the wrong order - and didn’t attempt to rectify this. In the end the cashier redeemed it by giving a refund the price difference between the kids and adult size pizza. The burgers we ordered at an astronomical £16.50 were tiny and burnt so the definitely didn’t get good quality for money but the fries were decent. I know on a Sunday there isn’t much choice but I wouldn’t recommend here for service or for food

I ordered a burger and it was cooked. The waiter removed it for me. Then the boss told me that it was definitely not cooked. They did this to ensure that the food was cooked. Then the burger was removed without any evidence. Then he returned it without refunding me, and there was only one dish left. Most of it was taken away from me. I wanted to continue eating but I couldn't get it. The service was really outrageous. I will never go to this restaurant again.

Recently started eating lunch here and have not only found the food to be fantastic, but the staff are super friendly and professional. Specifically, Catherine, she's always welcoming and kind. 5 stars, definitely coming here regularly!

Catherine, the barista at my go-to coffee spot, consistently impresses with her top-notch barista skills and remarkable customer service. Her attention to detail and ability to craft the perfect cup every time makes every visit a delight. She's always friendly, welcoming, and genuinely cares about her customers' experiences.

Visited as a family with young children. Had a very ‘rushed’ vibe. Very busy feel, almost like eating in an airport. Not in the least bit relaxing or enjoyable! Staff whizzing past the table every few seconds, shouting instructions to each other. All it needed was to move our table out the way! Pizzas were very nice. Tacos were average and not worth £15 Drinks were over priced and limited - not that anyone came to see if we wanted more than one! Our servers were friendly enough but the manager (I presume) looked stressed and miserable. Wouldn’t return. Left within the hour!

Tried Benugo's for a pre-show meal on 8th Feb 24. The restaurant looked good and seemed a good fit of casual dining for the Art Centre venue. Our choice of pulled beef tacos was a cold dish which was unexpected. It was a very simple 'Subway' style assembly and was exceptionally over spiced. We chose our desserts from the menu but the waiter explained they didn't have enough staff to make puddings! We had a couple of glasses of wine and our bill came to £82 which I felt was steep for the standard of food we were served. We paid our bill and were told the payment hadn't gone through - it had, and we ended up paying twice! Fortunately the mistake was identified and rectified before we left the building. Despite the poor standard of food and not having enough staff to serve a dessert, the atmosphere was bright and chatty which was likely due to the guests in a full restaurant. I would call in for a pre-show drink but avoid eating there in future

Good service, wonderful decor, but very average uninteresting food. I think the menu could be improved substantially.

Four people for a pre concert meal. We ordered some shared items and mains x4. The shared items arrived almost immediately followed by a pizza ordered for a main! Our error it appeared: sharing dishes accompany main dishes. We explained our misunderstanding and the main dishes were removed (and kept warm) until our shared dishes were completed. The staff were pleasant but a little erratic in service provision. All the food was well presented, nice portions and tasty. We decliners bottle of Malbec at £49, but the beer options were reasonably priced. We’d go back again but order in stages to prevent an overloaded table and slowly relish each course.

Chicken Burger and Tacos were pretty good, though I wish the beef was a bit more seasoned. Ahmed was an amazing waiter. Cheesecake was delightful

It was an amazing experience not just with the food but the atmosphere and ambience of the place is outstanding. This place is definitely in my top 5 restaurants list. The food was so delicious 10/10 chefs kiss, but to make our experience even more pleasant, we were served by Ahmed. His service was spectacular. Very professional, funny and gave us the best suggestions regarding food, in short he was the ‘ cherry on the top’.

The staff are very nice, but the person in charge of sourcing ingredients has clearly decided to buy the cheapest options thinking people won't know the difference. PIzza dough was low quality, little toppings (mostly around middle with a large gap towards crust). Orange juice tasted like the cheapest possible brand (I drink orange juice at every restaurant and this restaurant is the worst in the area). The restaurant has also packed the tables quite tight, so it's very noisy. It was full when we were there, so I suppose they have a good reason to pack people in since people would likely prefer noise to no available seat. Comfy seats and quite nice design - if they upgraded to average quality ingredients I might be tempted to return during quieter periods.

This place is great. One of the reasons I frequent is place is because of Ahmed. His customer service is outstanding he always remembers that I like to drink a mocha. His food suggestions have not let me down as of yet and his attitude is simply amazing!

Came here as a friend reccomended the place, to say it was a good reccomendation is an understatement. The atmosphere was very nice, elegant but with a nice casual feel to it. The food was excellent, with no disapointing dishes served, and the wait time was less than ten minutes for our sharers, 10 minutes for our mains, despite the restaurant being quite full. The service was exemplary, with our server Ahmed being upbeat and charming the entire time. The recommendations for our food and drinks were spot on, and he even went as far as to write our names on the coffee he served us. An overall perfect restaurant experience, and I hope to visit again soon.

Beautiful decor and great service. We were served by a lady named Anya who was instantly so warm and welcoming, making an effort to get to know us as well as meeting all our needs. A level of friendliness and professionalism that I rarely see these days. Nice food! I would recommend their pizzas.

Had a coffee on two occasions and a take away Pizza on a great deal. Catherine was a delight, she was cheerful and helpful and really kind to my son. Pizza really delicious. Cannot comment on table service but the coffee was delicious and friendly & positive attitude of the staff was really good.

Came here for lunch with a friend. It was a great experience with 10/10 food. Our waiter was Ahmed who was incredibly helpful with food recommendations with fantastic service.

Came here to grab some dinner for a comedy show. The menu was concise enough to make decisions easily but also varied enough to not be boring. A few of the items on the menu that I was after were unavailable, however Ahmed (our waiter) provided some other suggestions and was very helpful the whole time. Ahmed was very cheerful and positive, and this didn't change no matter how busy the place got.

We were attended by Ahmed, who was not only very kind and helpful but also provided the best ever experience with his sense of humour.

Coffee was ok. I can not believe they charged me 3.3£ for a soda water (from tap). This is appalling- I was never charged for a soda water in any bar/pubs. Just check as they probably charge you your tap waters! The staff said we charge everything. Well thanks!

We needed a quick lunch service prior to cinema visit. This was given efficiently and with a smile from the seating staff and our waiter Ahmed.

A lovely contemporary restaurant, literally in the Warwick Arts Centre building. Great staff, fast efficient and friendly service, so no stressing we would be late for the concert. Hand-made pizzas, cooked in wood fired oven, excellent, nice and thin with good toppings. We had two pizzas, sides, two desserts, two drinks and a coffee £54!! Bargain. We visited on a Saturday night, before going to a concert at the arts centre, very busy, so I would definitely recommend booking in advance.

I'm really sorry to leave a negative review. the barista was obviously a new starter. Approached bar counter, rather than wait to be seated at main entry point. Assistant took order quickly. We ordered 1 latte, 1 bag of fresh popcorn, and 2 ice creams. I queried price but was told it was correct. At £17.75, i found it to be expensive. The assistant asked if we could wait to one side until Barista made my hot drink. All other items were ready. Unfortunately, it took over 20/25 mins for my one latte to be prepared. Firstly, there was an order in front of me, of 2 hot drinks, then somehow the customer served after me got his two hot drinks. Then the barista made another flat white, and i prompted I'd order a vanilla latte. Barista queried this, and i said i was sure of what i ordered, then a latte was prepared, and the cup had been filled too much to fit any syrup in. At this point, i was more than happy to take any of the drinks that had been prepared but was told to wait for the correct drink to be made. Sadly, all this time wasted meant i missed the first song of the brilliant Nick Cope.
