Superb little restaurant. Perhaps the best sushi I've ever eaten. Very nice atmosphere.

The Food and Ambience was pretty okay. But the service felt unprofessional and was provided with no cutlery. Had to ask separately for a bottle of water which should have been a courtesy to be provided first. I had high hopes and would not recommend anyone visiting edinburgh.

The sashimi was beautifully presented, fresh and delicious. The cutlet and yakitori also tasted like Japan. All the store staff were kind as well.

We were there last Sunday and got the last table, luckily without a reservation. A very cute little restaurant with nice service. Ramen soup was very tasty and the sushi was also very good. Going there again today

I went in with a craving for rice or noodles, but the sushi looked so good that I couldn't resist. I wasn't disappointed - looked great and tasted better. The chicken gyoza were excellent too. Very good - I'll be back.

This is very good japanese restaurant in Edinburgh. So gd that we came twice. The sushi was gd. We also tried stir fried noodles and bento. All were very gd. Highly recommend to make reservations as the place was full most of time.

First visit on Wednesday before a show at the Usher Hall. It's a compact but airy little restaurant with nice seating and decor. The staff were very attentive, polite, and friendly. Super varied menu with a lot to choose from, have to say I got distracted by looking at everything coming out of the kitchen. I ended up going for ramen, which was beautiful. It had a superb mix of flavour and spice. Will be sure and come back. Thank you

I was a regular customer and i ordered a lot from deliveroo. Lately they have put up the price which is fair but they are doing really bad in packing. I ordered a bento today from deliveroo but the soup spilled all over the bad, it actually got into the bento and partly cooked my sashimi. Understandably it is part of the driver problem, but the server can wrap the soup with kitchen film rather than just tape the the top. I am quite disappointed

Really lovely small restaurant. Staff were so nice and helpful and the food was delicious. Great vegan selection, ask for the separate vegan menu. We would love to go back and try more :)

They serve the real Japanese food! The ramen is delicious and I drink all the soup after finishing the ramen, so you can imagine that was amazing. The sushi was great too. The staff were very nice and friendly. Really worth to come back again.

£12.50 for a portion of noodles that was half filled not even a full portion. They said they don’t do the 10% discount anymore only for students. I’ve been a regular customer as I live nearby but this has now become a joke. You keep raising your prices and cutting from the portions. You will end up with no customers this way. Shame

I've tried the sushi, ramen and some appetizers. Delicious food and good atmosphere.

Comfortable seating and cosy atmosphere, the menu had such an incredible selection we didn't know where to start but I can't recommend the Wagyu sushi and Red dragon roll enough. The Spider rolls and chilli squid were really popular with our party too, the portions are perfect but we couldn't stop ordering and eating. Thanks to their FOH team for a fantastic service.

Restaurant is very beautiful and the service is exceptional. We had sukiyaki with wagyu beef and it was amazing. Takoyaki is also very good.

Proper authentic food cooked to perfection. The service was quick with only a few minutes to get some drinks. Very tasty and generously priced for the quality of food. We will love to eat here again soon and try some more dishes in this cosy friendly restaurant. Thanks Bentoya!

Chicken came raw, my friend got food poisoning from it and was ill for a week the service was ight but probably the worst japanese restaurant in Edinburgh i went which was disappointing

Really enjoyed the food here. They were really nice about my avocado allergy and changed the items I wanted with it to cucumber instead, which I really appreciated. Would definitely be here once a week if I don’t live in the south of England.

Had a delicious tonkotsu ramen and takoyaki. I will definitely be back to try them again. Pity there is no WiFi for clients but that's a plus. If the mobile internet is slow, you can just spend the time enjoying the food.

Awarding a 5 star purely because their food quality is consistently enjoyable. It's our go-to place when based in Edinburgh. Sometimes, it's an every evening adventure. Some of the best sushi and sashimi in Edinburgh! Staff always try to satisfy seating quickly and where we like to sit. Once moved my son and I to a larger table (when very busy!) just because we ordered a lot of food which couldn't be accommodated on a little table. Reliably wonderful experience.

Used to be really good here but just ordered a katsu curry and salmon teriyaki and not only was it neither of those dishes. My katsu chicken was raw in the middle with raw fried egg and no curry. And the salmon teriyaki was a overcooked chicken noodle dish. Not sure who they have working for them but if they can't cook chicken they shouldn't be allowed near kitchen.

Love it, such good value for money. Nothing spectacular but always really decent sushi and ramen, good quick service and not too pricey for what you get.

The staff are lovely, the food is excellent and not over priced either. Recommend any time.

We've come here for dinner several times a year for the past few years. The food is always excellent. The staff are always friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful.

Bento box stays on top , loved it. desserts were munched also loved it.

Delicious and traditional Japanese food here. Very well prepared. Staff is very friendly. The Bento boxes are a delight.

Popped in for lunch. Little bit expensive for some vegetarian options. But otherwise really yummy. Service was very good. Although it did feel a bit rushed. Bringing the bill almost as soon as we had finished, even though it wasn't busy.

Ordered the delivery and the sushi pieces were quite small. Also the chef selection samishi set is more expensive than ordered the pieces separately. Didn’t worth the value at all.

Bentoya, this cool Japanese joint in Edinburgh, and I gotta say, I was blown away by the spicy noodles I had! They were absolutely delicious! The service was also really good, and the staff were super friendly. The only bummer was that the tables were a bit too close together for my liking, which kinda killed the vibe a little bit. But all in all, it was a pretty great experience, and I'd definitely recommend this place if you're looking for some yummy Japanese food in Edinburgh!

We are groups of 4 visiting from Thailand and another couple from Preston. We have a bottle of wine and each one of us have a meal each and we all think a bit small portion for the price. Another note there is no WiFi provide !!

Great japanese food its tasty and fresh. The fish was delicate and melted in your mouth. Also the duck was very tender. Everything was seasoned well. The menu offers everything one would desire from a japanese restaurant. Pro Tipp for the undecided, choose the Mix Bento Box, it has a little bit of everything. Service staff was quick and friendly. The place is not very big and can feel a bit crammed at times. Its not wheelchair accessible (stairs at the entrance, very small space between tables) I will clearly come again.

How can the food possibly be so highly rated? Without exaggeration, this is definitely the worst "Japanese" food I have ever eaten. Many of the dishes must not be prepared fresh. The squid rings was definitely reheated because it was extremely rubbery. In fact, inedible. The special fried rice was extremely bland. Not an ounce of seasoning! The takoyaki was similarly bland and mush. Nothing like actual fresh takoyaki from an actual Japanese restaurant. Don't waste your money here -- except, of course, if amateur-level Japanese food is your thing.

I come often and absolutly love the food! Ramen is the best I've had and the sushi is spot on! Defo visit you won't be disappointed.

If I were in Edinburgh by myself, I would have eaten here everyday! I shared the gyōza, chicken curry, volcano roll, and the wagyu A5 roll. All phenomenal! 10 out of 10... well according to this review, 5 out of 5 would recommend!

I had Salmon bentonite box and it was delicious. The fish taste so fresh its like melt in your mouth. Very recommended!

Sushi good. Katsu curry good. Asahi good. We arrived on a busy evening and got seats downstairs which wasn't great atmosphere. But we didn't have a booking so happy to get in at all

Absolutely delicious fresh sushi and seafood. Very large portions of maki etc compared to other establishments. Love it so much. Also for 18 maki, 2 nigiri, edamame beans, seaweed salad and a poke bowl the bill only came to £43, would recommend.

I'm giving this an overall rating of 3 for the following reasons: I eaten here twice, the first time was pretty good and the second time people seemed really off their game (and let's face it, well all have off days). Ysterday's service wasn't great and the food was fine. Firstly, my food was delivered quickly but my friend's order got lost somehow and by the time she had received hers, I was long finished eating. In fact, we had to chase her order in order for them to discover it had been lost. Also, my miso never made it to the table but was on the bill, so they then had to go and re-issue another bill. Also, my friend and I had tickets to a play, so she had to literally woof her meal down in order to us to arrive on time. Like I said, my previous meal (last summer) everything was fine. I would like to think that last night was just a fluke, but that's my review. My one last bit of advice is that they should put brighter lights in the women's toilets as they are so dim it's almost impossible to touch-up your makeup after the meal 💁🏻‍♀️

This is a very small venue with no frills. I don't recall any background music to create any atmosphere, and the place didn't have any kind of a buzz about it. By the pace in which the tables were turning over, it was more a fast food experience. I ordered the Khatsu chicken as did one of my friends. There was also a Khatsu tofu and a bento box. I do not believe the food is made to order as it arrived 5 minutes after we ordered. The food was luke warm, and in fact I asked for mine to be reheated. That's exactly what I got - it was pinged in a microwave! The food was ok - nothing special. The drinks choice is limited to beer and wine unless you go for the sparkling saki at £13 for a 250ml bottle. My advice is don't - it was very underwhelming. The food was reasonably priced. The staff efficient. That's probably the best I can say unfortunately.

We arrived mid afternoon and sat right down. The service was very good and the selection of food was very good. We enjoyed the baked eggplant very much. The dynamite roll was tasty and the chicken katsu curry was also very good. Cold beer and relaxed setting. Highly recommended.

A great place with a great atmosphere. The food was fantastic for a reasonable price. At least, if you stay away from the A5 Wagyu stuff. The only minus point is the overly eager service, they are constantly coming by with "do you want to order." Or the second you take your last bite "can I take the plate away." Also they gave out food in separate times so I had to awkwardly eat before my partner or let my food go cold.

A wonderful place for Japanese food, a lot of options. Prawn tempura and chicken box are very nice, the portion, however, is a little bit small.

Always have a great experience at Bentoya. They have new young staff for the summer who are obviously inexperienced and a little slower and shy, but wasn’t really a problem. Food is exceptional and comes very quickly. Great calm atmosphere too. Would very much recommend!

Delicious, great price and excellent service. A must-visit if you're in Edinburgh and like East Asian food. Toilets were super clean but it would have been nice to have a mirror in there. I'm not sure if they have a wheel chair accessible toilet though as the ladies and gents were down a steep staircase
