Ben’s Plaice has been recommended a couple of times by friends . The first time we went , it was just before closing and was served an over cooked piece of cod . The second time , our credit card was charged twice (£61 each time ) and Lisa the manager was extremely rude to us when we queried . Refused a refund and have to go back to discuss with Ben . We went back into the shop to get a fork only to hear Lisa bad mouthing my family . Unfortunately to make matters worse , my fish and chips wasn’t very good , chips were soggy and again the cod was over cooked . Ended up throwing mine in the bin

We came here for fish and chips having read the rave reviews. We were really disappointed and most of it ended up in the bin unfortunately. The reason for the 2 star was because my son enjoyed the footlong sausage. Being on holiday by the sea fish and chips is a must so we were really looking forward to our chippie lunch. It was all cooked fresh which was nice. However everything was overdone and dry. The large cod was tiny not much bigger than your hand. There are so many choices of fish and chip places we felt really disappointed we came here.

Easily the best fish and chip shop in this area. I’m just annoyed that I ever never used it before. To start off with, they use top quality fresh produce. It’s then cooked to order and everything is just perfect. There’s no grease and the fish was chunky and full of flavour. The best thing is it’s very reasonably priced. To anyone local or on holiday nearby, do yourself a favour and go the extra mile or 5 minutes to this place, you won’t regret it and I personally won’t be going anywhere else now.

This is the best cod & chips in Looe. Absolutely delicious. They come in a box and there is no grease to be seen. Everything is fresh and crispy and you feel content and full after eating without that greasy sicky feeling you get with other chippies. Their menu is amazing and has weekly inventive new meals. Love this place. We are local and eat here every Friday 5 Star

The fish is fresh, the chips are cooked to perfection. The batter is gluten free which allows for the fish to stay crispy until you get home. The staff are friendly and nothing is too much trouble. If you wish you can eat in. For those who are not fish lovers, Bens Plaice offer a whole range of other foodstuffs like beef and bacon burgers with castello blue cheese, chicken stacks, cakes in fact go find him and follow on Facebook to see the extent of food on offer. And if you forget to buy your wine, his bottles are reasonably priced too. We wouldn’t go any where else.

Local 'chippie' that always delivers high quality food. Fish is always to die for and meal always polished off by all. Good choice of drinks, ice creams etc to compliment your meal and tables to eat in should you choose

We were a family of 11 that visited tonight. Excellent fish and chips, hot and fresh. The best curry sauce I have ever tasted. Kids loved sausage and chips and chicken burger and chips. Well worth a visit. They made it possible for us all to eat together using all the tables and they couldn’t do enough for us! Thank you

I had haddock and chips special today with curry sauce, it was cooked fresh and I have to say it was absolutely delicious. And excellent value, great staff and very friendly. I will be back !

Didn’t try the fish this visit but the battered sausage was really good and the curry sauce was 10/10. Crispy crisps, generous portions. Will definitely be back.

So glad we decided to drive to get our food from Ben’s Plaice! The chips were excellent and generously portioned. The curry sauce was a pleasant surprise - I’m so used to lumpy curry sauce from chippies. Not a lump in sight here, very rich with a tiny fruity tang. Normally one portion of sauce isn’t enough for me so I got two but I only needed the one (much to my husbands delight as he had the other) We also got a couple of the biscoff and white chocolate brownies. Oh. My. God. Absolutely decadent, whoever makes them is one hell of a baker! I couldn’t finish it all in one sitting so I have the other half for desert tonight. So very impressed, I wish I didn’t live 5 hours away as I’d definitely be a regular customer!

Great portions, asked about gluten free options, able to sort out no problems. All cooked to order, quick service, friendly staff. Will definitley be going back.

Soo disappointed with the food from Ben's after reading the reviews here. I got an inkling it wasn't going to be great from the smell in the car driving back to our holiday cottage. Complete waste of £25 for large cod & chips and scampi & chips. Everything smelled and tasted as though it was either burnt or cooked in dirty oil or both. If they really are the 2nd best fish & chip shop in Cornwall as their board proclaims, the rest must be dire, which I can't believe.

The staff were so friendly and helpful. Food cooked fresh to order and nothing was too much trouble for us. Would recommend highly.

This 'plaice' NEVER ceases to disappoint! I only ever review if somewhere is really good or really bad! Needed to review again. Just WONDERFUL as usual, totally worthy of being the no1 fish and chip shop in Cornwall.

Disappointingly abysmal fish and chips from Ben’s Plaice this evening… £7.50 for a ‘regular’ haddock that was approximately 6 inches long (see image attached, and folk for scale). I don’t think we’ve ever had such a tiny piece of fish in all our time living in Looe… could this have been a children’s portion? It certainly felt like it. £10.50 each for tiny fish and chips… Needless to say, we won’t be hurrying back. Clearly they don’t need the local / mid week / out of season business. Roll on February when the Coddy Shack re-opens.

Visited this fish and chip shop 3 times recently as we just discovered it. What a find! I can honestly say it's the best I've had. They do all the usuals you'd expect and much more, lots of specials. The staff are always brilliant. Fantastic king prawns, the biggest I've eaten for years.

They were Fabulous fish n chips. We ate them straight away walking down into Looe. There is a bit of a wait though, but I suppose it’s because it is very popular
