Lovely to sit outside in the sun on a hot afternoon

Very rude barmaid. Such a shame as the place is lovely but she definitely ruined our experience. Making rude remarks as we left with our drinks to sit outside.

Decent boozer - no frills, but they do all the basics superbly. Great prices with interesting selection of beers, with all the bar snacks you could want.

Very Rude Barmaid. Visited last night and will never return, plenty other lovely pubs in the area with friendly professional bar staff. This pub obviously doesn’t like female customers and your face has to fit. Read reviews on Trip adviser as it’s a common complaint.

We rented an apartment in this area. We came to this pub quite by accident on Easter Eve, we just wanted to drink beer, since we had just arrived in Edinburgh, but after a couple of glasses of Guinness we liked the atmosphere and decided to stay. We left already at 2.00 am, thanks to the girl bartender for the good service and smile.

Thank you to the lovely barmaid who made us to feel welcome in the bar recently, lovely open fire, lovely clean and close knit friendly atmosphere. Thank you to the barmaid who pre ordered our taxi back to Wakerley for home to England. Always call in when in Morningside as this a proper pub, with a little background music to suit all taste. Very clean place, which you don't always see now a days. Keep places like this going, by supporting a visit when next in Morningside if you like a proper choice of drinks and a good clean bar to sit and enjoy your drink, read a book people watch etc. Thank you barmaid again, kindness

This pub is a hidden treasure in the city of Edinburgh it is a place that you have to visit it is civil happy friendly just like the olden days it's very clean even the restroom it's spotless has plenty soap not like some bars that are filthy it has a great ScottishBritish pub culture if you are also a tourist it is ideal to visit bless the staff they are nice and bless the owner for running a great Scottish \British classic pub\bar I would say she has a CV that cannot be questioned

One of my fav pubs in Edinburgh and one I frequent regularly. The staff are all friendly and on the ball. Proper proper pub with good beer , wine and spirit selection. Always a good time. Claire the owner runs a smooth operation.

Bitterly disappointed with this establishment, largely run by women who I’d hope would be supportive of other women. Note to Clare - do better. Rude, opinionated, misinformed, unprofessional and hostile. There are far better places to drink.

Fantastico!! Went in on a Friday afternoon circa 3.00 ish and just watched it slowly but surely fill up with customers when we left at 5.00 ish. Just how a good old pub should be. Staff were great and the beer and atmosphere wonderful. We will be back.

My husband & I have lived in Morningside for around 16years but had never ever been in this pub until about a year ago.The service from the great friendly staff is impeccable and second to none. The customers are very friendly too, as are the dogs that are made very welcome.Wish we had found this pub a lot sooner! Keep up the great work ladies.

Instantly made us feel unwelcome. Was the first time we had been to the pub and had been recommended it by a nearby pub which had closed but it was not a friendly experience. Not really sure why the person on the bar had any hostility towards us but we were made to feel not welcome as soon as we had entered. Would recommend anywhere else in the area (Merlin, Ballroom, Waiting Room) as these places haven't been so rude to their punters.

A nice pub just tucked off the main road in Morningside. Good range of beers from cask, keg and bottle. Plus Whiskies. The decor has some interesting old and new beer and tobacco adverts on the wall. If you do what I did and come from town the walk back in was enjoyable. You can't go wrong if you do it both ways. Cheers

Popped into Bennets today for a Coffee in memory of an old friend Alex Wilson who sadly passed a few years ago, Alex drank here for over 50 years and it is a nice touch that they have marked the spot with his name tag from his house ⭐ Maybe gone but never Forgotten 🍻. Bennets of Morningside has always been a favourite watering hole for many locals.It has a fine selection of Beers and Spirits. Coffee and Tea can also be had at this well stocked bar. The staff are ready to welcome you as you enter with a smile.🙂 When the sun is out they have a fantastic beer garden with plenty of seating that catches the rays for most of the day. 👍.

If I could give zero stars, I would. Was visiting Edinburgh from out of town for the day, when I had the misfortune to go into this pub on the hottest day so far this year. I bought myself a bottle of water to take away with me. I paid for my VERY expensive fancy glass bottled water and asked for the direction to the gents which I needed to use quickly. As a paying customer, I know I was within my rights to be allowed access to the toilet facility within the pub. The INCREDIBLY rude lady (all the while talking away on her phone) said I COULD NOT use it due to it having recently been cleaned. When I asked incredulously “You’re telling me I can’t use the toilet?” she just shook her head and said “No”. She should be ashamed. In this day and age - that’s disgusting treatment. I was a customer of the pub being refused a basic right. If her excuse had been the toilet was out of order, I would have understood. But to refuse me access on the basis that it had recently been cleaned is just utter rubbish. This woman could not have cared less and God help any paying customer who one day might actually be desperate to use such a facility.

Really great for a quiet pint of ale. Always a good selection of real ales. Also quiet and friendly, with a community feel. You can sit outside if you prefer and can stand the cold and wind, which is what Edinburgh is like most of the time. It's very relaxed and calm and not loud, and lovely in old fashioned, pub kind of way.

Quiet traditional pub, with pleasant staff and excellent beer. Has a small beer garden which is nice to sit in when the weather is nice.

Curiously I worked here during one summer, probably this was back in 2001. The place was run by a man in his 40's but he looked like 60 because he smoked unfiltered cigarettes and went through two packages a day. I worked as a barmaid and with my 19 years of age back then and a charming smile, I held the record in tips 😜 The place looked very different back then: you could still smoke inside and the walls were yellow due to all the impregnated smoke. I think they changed the name to Bennett's of Morningside as there is indeed a second Bennett's bar in Morningside (the one with the theatre next door). They took, and still as far as I can see, take great pride in serving gorgeous guest beers. The owner back then wouldn't let anyone change the taps of these beers and cleaned the pipes rigorously to ensure the great taste. Great memories and a little authentic pub gem in Morningside.

We absolutely love this pub, the regulars are a great laugh and the barmaid is first class. Found this place by chance on a post lockdown visit to the capital, even coming from the west we were invited in and made to feel very welcome. We now go out of our way to visit. Great drinks selection and very good (not too city) prices, reasonable pint prices that you can expect decent change from £10 for 2 drinks (becoming unheard of in Edinburgh). This is not a bar, it's a proper pub, which we prefer, yet are becoming non existent in our cities.

Good old fashioned pub. No frills, no loud music and a great selection of beers and drinks served by people who care for their business. Small beer garden to the front. No huddles of smokers crowding the front door. Friendly vibe. Older crowd.

Well done on taking Covid restrictions seriously. Staff were cleaning every 10 minutes. Shields at the bar, lots of signs everywhere. Only downside is they could have really had more than 2 craft beers on tap.

It's a nice pub and a decent selection of real ales. However the pints are not poured very well although Timothy Taylor’s Landlod was reasonable. Overall I found this very disappointing and it's doesn't do the ales justice when it’s not poured properly.

Always a pleasant stop off point at the end of a stroll out. Well run clean n tidy pub. A credit to the landlord.

Good honest, mainly locals', TV free bar with a great selection of well-kept real ales, kegs, and malts, served by excellent bar staff with basic pub grub, all at realistic prices. A hidden gem with a suntrap beer garden. What's not to like?
