Bengal Spice in St Albans

What we received was good but didn't get the 4 poperdoms we ordered phoned the restaurant and they will sort it next time we order hopefully.

I ordered at 6:40pm this evening and the order didn’t turn up until after 8pm, over an hour after I’d ordered it!

Chicken Biryani and Tandoori chicken is very good....but Lamb Royal Tikka Masala is sweet and not at all expected sweetness for Non-veg. We expected it to be spicy otherwise the food delivery and quality is good.

everything was good but the lamb was hard and dry.

Generous cuts of meat in tasty sauces. It’s the first time ordering from here but we will definitely order again as it was one of the best curries we’ve had in a long time.

The food was delicious! It all arrived piping hot and on time. I’ve always had a good experience with Bengal Spice, which is why I keep going back!

The food was damaged and crushed.

Not very nice at all. The naan was supposed to be garlic and I received chilli, could barely eat it. Ordered a chicken tikka masala, what I received was nothing like a tikka masala at all. Korma was thin consistency, almost see through. Unfortunately not what I was expecting.

Not our favourite. This is the first Indian takeaway we have had that wasn’t great. It was our first order here, we usually go to one in Brookmans Park. We ordered 2 x tikka, 1 x Jalfrezi, 3 x mushroom rice and 1 x garlic naan. The tikkas were bland and brown - see image. The rice was also bland, we usually love mushroom rice. The jalfrezi was standard but the chicken was a bit tough. The naan was great flavour but quite small. Order arrived on time and the man was really lovely but the food is just okay. We probably wouldn’t order here again, sorry guys.

For our takeaway, we ordered a starter of butterflied prawns, deep fried in breadcrumbs for £7.99. We were expecting 5. We got one ( photo below). And it was dry and encased in thick orange breadcrumbs.When I referred to this on their Facebook page, I was told that I had powered the wrong dish and that dish only had 1 prawn. Really? For £7.99? The,tandoori chicken was mediocre and the chicken biriani had virtually no meat in it. A deeply disappointing waste of nearly £30. I would steer clear of this restaurant in future.

Ordered poppadoms x5 but missed out of the order plus food was not hot been going to you for long time...sorry to say very poor this evening

The food is good but don't seem to be able to get the delivery time right, this is not the first time it's been early, told the delivery driver he said he will tell them don't know if he did.

Cling film in rice & chicken was pink

Although everything was lovely one of the food was not what was ordered it was something different .

When we received our Indian it wasn’t up to temperature it was Luke warm and the sauces in the madras didn’t have depth they were very watery … the Bombay aloo had no flavour …. I’m not one to complain but it’s the first Indian that I’ve not been impressed by ….. normally my husband orders from the bengal spice in Hatfield but I ordered not realising this was the bengal spice St Albans …. Well sadly dissapointed as bengal spice Hatfield is top notch … definitely won’t make that mistake again …. Sorry no offence just know our curries

Food is very bad in taste , it is getting foul smell

Ordered the meal for two and I had specially called the restaurant and even left a note for the food to be spicy but it was not spicy at all.The chicken tika masala and bombay aloo was nothing but sweet very disappointing.However the lamb rogon josh was too good just wish it was spicy tho still.

It's not the first time it's been early, don't mind 10 mins early prefer it to be a bit more on time

Unfortunately the food was not as expected, too much potatoe not enough spinach in the Sag allo, Rogan was far too spicy. Breads and rice perfect.

What can I say. Absolutely amazing. I've used you guys for several years now when we get the chance to treat ourselves. In my view the food gets better and better (if possible). Looking forward to the next meal 🤤

Food arrived hot on arrival and tasty dishes! Would love to see more paneer dishes on the menu as being a vegetarian, options are quite limited but overall very nice!

Food arrived stone cold, the second time this has happened from the restaurant, and JustEat are refusing to refund.

I order from this place once sometimes twice a week, always great food, tonight’s order was awful. Tasteless, and got my order wrong, none of it was hot. Such a disappointment! The only good thing was the popadoms. Thanks

I last ordered in December 2022 and the same dishes in February 2023 taste quite different, they have less flavour and less spice.

Nan bread seems to have halved in size!

The driver was very rude and threaten to not deliver my food all because he couldn't locate my property and didn't like the fact I questioned why he didn't follow the instructions I had provided. The food was lovely however I am put off ordering again because I do not want to have rude driver's being unpleasant and saying they don't care if I've called the restaurant to complain. The driver lets you guys down big time - what a shame.

We had a big bash there last week for a 50th celebration which was brilliant. The food all came out on time, hot, and very very tasty. We are regulars and would thoroughly recommend you having a visit!!

Tikka masala was sweet :( , Kasundi had tikka pieces instead of chopped chicken as mentioned. No salt and everything mild, despite spicy description. :(

Rice, poppadoms and chicken were lovely. However, we ordered 4 different curries and we all thought they were a bit bland. Hardly any flavour in them. Bit of a shame since this place is only around the corner.

Mixed review with this one. Whenever I get Indian, without fail I will get an onion bhaji- these bhaji's unfortunately were a let down. They were very dry and honestly tasted stale however the main food was absolutely gorgeous so could have been a bad batch. The mains would make me order from here again

The currys were very oily. My chicken and sauce was covered in a thick layer of oil which I haven’t seen before and it felt as though you were eating pure oil. The masala was ok but not that great. Won’t order again there are much better options around here for much better prices.

Was slightly late but expected on new year's eve. Brilliant food as always!

45 minutes late and counting. Still no sign of the food, restaurant phone line isn’t seeming to work, used them plenty of times before and never had an issue. Received a text to say it was on its way 30 minutes ago. And it’s still not here. Extremely unhappy.

Food was luke warm and the bhajis where not cooked

Food was bland, watery and cold. Very little taste and the prawns were the worst quality. Will not order from here again.

Food was cold and very late. The popperdoms were smashed to crumbs and the narn was tiny. No nan saplied with the balty dish, as is the norm. The quality of the food once warmed in the microwave was good.

Food was cold, tasted awful. Called to find out what was talking so long, very rude on phone, no customer service at all.

Seems to be hit and miss from this restaurant. First time I ordered from them it was amazing, but this time was just ok. The hot and cold items were put together in the same bag, so the hot items cooled quickly and arrived lukewarm. The onion bhaji’s were dry and really crunchy.

I am sorry to write this but I've never tasted chicken tikka curry taste only of an extra coconut korma with red food colouring and so blant not a spice or seasoning to be found except oil 😅 the lamb rogan josh was so bland you couldn't even taste a tomato, full of oil, and you could smell the lamb you have chosen to use is a very elderly sheep lol no salt? The mint sauce youd use to have with a roast diner and some strong natural yogurt and also the dryest definitely crispy fried onion bhaji, even when it turnt up cold it was enough crisp on the outside and dryed on the inside but I did manage to taste 1 string of chilli in half of the bhaji and a bombay potato that tasted of vegetable soup 👋

I was a bit cross with myself. I didn't notice that I was only 60p short of my order value to receive 15% discount..

We ordered from what we thought was our usual place. Which turns out they just have the same name as our usual minus one letter difference! The food turned up “warm” but we was too hungry to moan. I had asked for no chicken pieces in my “note for the restaurant” but they ignored that and left the chicken pieces in. Reluctantly I sat picking the chicken out so I could continue eating my dinner. I was trying not to moan about it. Mistakes can happen. But then my partners meal was put on a plate. But the contents was mostly water, a little sauce and some chicken. It was not very appetising! To look at, let alone eat! He rang to ask for a new one to be sent out along with a new rice and Bombay as his was now cold and “settled” and was told to just “reheat” the rice and Bombay once his food arrives. This is not acceptable from a restaurant. They sent us with watery food. They should replace the meal. I took a photo of the meal on his plate for evidence if it needs to be looked at. Never again will I order from here after their attitude. From the delivery driver to the food itself. Poor experience. No return from us!
