We had a takeaway. Food was really nice however I do feel that certain items are very over priced. over £8 for a starter and poppadoms £1.80 each compared to £0.75 at any other takeaways.

Terrible food especially the mushroom and potatoes felt like they were spoiled. The service was also not at all friendly. We went around 9:30 and they kept saying they will be closing at 10:30 that was like an hour away which made us feel very unwelcome. I took my friends there and was very embarrassed. Honestly when I read the other reviews I expected better. I read this review about a gentleman going there for past 20 years really I want to ask why and how?!

The Bengal Lancer has been taken over by the Durbar Lounge... Please don't reserve a table through the old website. They will take your reservation or online order even BUT the new owners don't have access or control!!! We reserved a table for today, Father's Day and we're turned away as the place was closed for a private function. New owner was very sorry and we will try again via DURBAR LOUNGE... This is a warning to others in case you make the same mistake

Very tasty and good portions. Second visit we went for a Thali each and wow. First time visiting in a while. New owners and despite good service, nice touches and attempts to make food look good, it was just a very average curry. There was nothing to complain about and it wasn't bad, there are just much better options locally.

We just had an excellent dining experience at the Bengal Lancer! The waitress and manager were attentive, warm and welcoming. Food was amazing. With a good choice of food and drink, I'd highly recommend this lovely restaurant if you are looking for dinner out in Hampshire.

Food was okay. Service was super slow considering we was the only ones in there. We waited around 15 mins for the first drinks order to be placed. Staff was nice and smiley and super friendly.

There is now a much wider range of dishes on the menu, including lots of vegetarian options. I had the Vegetarian Masala and loved it! Very good range of side dishes which were all delicious and fresh tasting.

Booked a table on Wednesday for Saturday online and got a confirmation email to say it had gone through . I get a missed phone call yesterday from them and I called them back to see what was the problem they claimed they didn't phone me . I just phoned them to add another person to booking . Now they said they phoned yesterday to say it was fully booked and they had no idea of my booking . Had a full blown argument down the phone . Used to go there all the time . Unfortunately after this I shall not be returning. BRING BACK THE OLD OWNERS . NEW OWNERS ARE RUDE .

The food is fair to middling nothing special, the service is reasonable, the price is about average BUT make sure you eat all you have ordered because if you cant manage it all and ask for a container to take it home there is a £2 00 charge for this ---- i am so suprised as i have never seen this before at any other restaurant as they normally give you the container free.

We order lamb curry with butter naan and it was delicious curry. The staff is so friendly. I must recommend if you want a good food must visit BENGAL LANCER restaurant. Atmosphere very peaceful. We must come back.

Visited after many years and glad to know it is under new management. Everythign about the food felt homely and came pipping hot. There was an element of freshness to the dishes especially the fresh onion bhajis. Main course was a treat but desert option was slightly lacking. Also heard from the owner that the restuarant will be going through a new interior design change over so looking forward to be back again soon. Quality food but more importantly 5 star customer service from the team. Highly recommened!

Chit Chat! We are the Curry Clan and we attend a different curry establishment every month and provide good ol’ honest feedback on our experience! This months choice was the Bengal Lancer in Aldershot! Many of the lads had frequented this curry house many many years ago so we were keen to take a trip down memory Lane. So strap yourself in, it’s going to be a bumpy and random ride! Upon arrival, the ambience was one of stunted silence, excitement of what our evening had in store and a crooked table (levelled with expert levelling skills using a folded place mat!) Beers and our poppadum order took some time to make their way to us, however the beer was cold (not Cobra as the glass suggested) and the poppadoms eventually arrived (luckily not the spicy ones but a strong flavour that overpowered all the dips!)! We requested another dip ‘wheel’ (not circular but we won’t get into the detail just yet!). Nevertheless this arrived promptly with a tangy, creamy-coloured mint sauce, chilli lime pickle, whole onions and a sweet n’ sour/mango chutney mash up. The starters were good, however the chicken chat was very different and not what was expected, with the chef attempting to dress the underside of the plate which left an awful mess on the table. The addition of a cranberry /hoisin sauce remix to the mixed kebab starter was also an interesting fusion that my taste buds had not encountered before. The beer continued to flow and the service was to a good standard. The mains arrived and smelt amazing! However, we were not prepared for the mouth workout required to eat the assortment of meat that had been cooked to a consistency of what can only be described as part-worn tyres. In our group was an ex-marine who commented that this was the most difficult task he had ever faced, having been to combat zones this was not what was expected on a mid-week curry night with the boys. I attempted to cut a small piece of meat and gave up after several minutes of sawing back and forth. However, in general the flavours were good the rices and naans were good. The chef even accommodated our ‘egg-fried’ rice request without hesitation. I would rate the food a solid C+, good but could do better (much like my school reports). However, the highlight of the evening was the very spacious toilets, which if times get tough could be rented out as a spacious studio apartment. The bill came and the application of numerous corrections using tipex had us concerned, however the 5-6 pints soon overcame this concern and we all paid and departed the establishment, full, tired and ready for bed. Thank you Bengal Lancer, it was an experience none of us will ever forget Namaste 🙏

food was below avarage at best I would have enjoyed a ready meal more. cold sauce which had felt like it was half microwaved or something as it was ice cold in the middle with some plain meat thrown in. Won’t be visiting again

Taking over an hour to serve customers the basic in restaurant but constantly serving takeaways. Had to leave after getting served no food other than a popadom

Booked here as it was recommended from years ago. It’s a new owner who is a very polite young man and more than happy to engage with you. They cook everything fresh so the wait times are a little longer but I have to say, wow. The food was absolutely gorgeous, the tandoori was out of this world. After speaking with the owner about his plans he invited us back as a family to try a few new things he is considering for the menu and we did just that. What a lovely evening with absolutely gorgeous food. A 7 & 9 year old loved every bit of it too and even surprised them with ice cream. Amazing service, amazing food and overall a lovely experience. I wish the owner every success and we’ll see you again soon!

Lovely night, with amazing food. The staff were so welcoming, friendly and accommodating, even giving us a round of drinks as it was a birthday celebration- definitely would revisit and recommend.

Not been to Bangor lancer for quite awhile dew to it not up to my standards so I thought I would give them one more go BIG mistake I think they forgot to put the chicken in both of our dishes and the nan was not cooked so in future I will go to Johnnys Gurkhas

Food is great here. But spices in Indian veg curries is very less. Also just to let you know if you are ordering Garlic naan,it is made from dough which is sweet. So your naan is going to be sweet. Tandoori chicken was out of the world. Must try.

Went with wife on Saturday evening. Very good food, good service and reasonable prices, nice decor inside. Food was correctly prepared with nothing over-cooked. Really enjoyed it and will definitely go again.

Tried and tested many Indian Resteraunts I can honestly say this is the best tasting food. Resteraunt looks a bit dated inside but don't judge a book … i used to live close by , but now have to drive 25 mins to get there but it is so worth it !

This is the first time we've tried Bengal Lancer tonight after knowing about the place for years. First class food - no grease in sight. Lovely meal - our new, regular curry house now 👌👍👌

Worst Chicken peices in soup I have ever eaten in my life. And I eat a lot of curries. I normally make my own but because my friend was visiting I treated (more like punished) him to a take away. Where do I start: breads were average at best, then the the curry was just an ill flavoured soup with 4 chunks of chicken per portion, oh, and a peice of tomato, WFT. No texture at all, the chicken was supposed to be tikka, it wasn't. I will not use this place again. Lesson learned. There is no way that a chef made this curry. By the way, it all went in the bin, that's how bad it was. If you want me to come down and teach your so called chef how to make a Madras, I will happily guide him through the process. But if not, here is a tip, your supposed to cook out the base gravy so it reduces, not serve it like soup🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮 Do not go here, I repeat, do not go here.

Great evening, the staff were really friendly. The food was super tasty, and they had magners as well which was nice. And really good value as well. Very happy and we would definitely go again 👍👍

Good food and served at a safe distance

We have eaten in at Bengal Lancer a couple of times, but had a take away last night. Delicious food as always, really hot, and ready to collect exactly on time. Always a warm welcome. If you are nervous of eating out (although all the necessary precautions are being taken) , why not have a take away. I cannot recommend it too highly - the food is absolutely delicious, and certainly the best take away I have experienced in the area.

We live locally have tried a few restaurants around the area I must say this is one of the best Indian food in the area anytime as a family we feel for Indian this is the first place will reach out to prices are reasonable services good and food is amazing. Its take away most of the time food I would recommend is cauliflower bhaji, lamb biryani, lamb chops, chicken tandoori everything is made with love.

Lovely tasting curry takeaway. Ordered 4 different curry’s, all of them had hardly any meat. So disappointed and still hungry after we ate. All in was £62.50 - waste of money, as the quantity of food only enough for 2 people. Owner should look at this before all your takeaway customers are going elsewhere. The additional cost to you to make the portions with enough meat, would add little. Put this additional cost to your customers if money is tight. I would have gladly paid £65 and eaten a decent meal.I won’t be back though, as doubt it will change

Called in on Thursday night. 8:30 on a Banquet night and empty!!. We soon found out why. The pickle tray was atrocious with the onions "sweaty" as though they had been sat there all night and the other accompliments all over the sides of the little dishes as though they had been served to previous customers!. My wife had a lamb tikka starter which she didn't enjoy at all whilst I tried garlick mushrooms, now I have had garlick mushrooms in many restaurants across Britain but never had them like this, 3 button mushrooms and about half a dozen new potatoes, no taste of garlick whatsoever.Our mains (lamb madrass & a lamb bhuna were bland and tasteless (in fact we both left most of our meal). We only live round the corner from Bengal Lancer and have always used it, and in the past have always given it good reviews but on this occasion it was dire and I can only think that they may have a new chef (who is not very good!!)We will leave it for a while and try at a later date in the hope that it has gone back to the excellent restaurant that it always was, any good points? the mango lassi was delicious.

The food was bland and felt very rushed to eat as staff kept coming over to remove plates whilst we were talking even though we were still eating.

Popped in for a quick curry, told them we only had and hour and we were out in time to not miss the bus home. The service was friendly and the food was good - nothing outstanding, but fine and not expensive. The place itself is a bit dated, but OK.

Have not visited for a number of years due to a bad experience, so went with fairly low expectations. We were pleasantly surprised at how good the food was and the service, will definitely return.

We spend time with family in Aldershot a few times a year and always visit the Bengal Lancer. We absolutely love the welcome and the cosy surroundings. The menu is extensive and caters for both mild and fiery palates and is great value for money. Not that I'm an expert but they seem to use their spices so subtly - not overwhelming the meat. All very tasty.We would thoroughly recommend them.

Went in recently with friends. They run a special offer on Wednesdays and Thursdays which is extremely good value for money. I had a jalfrezi and it was one of the best curries I have had aim a long time. If I am ever in Aldershot again, I will definitely return here.

Food was good although waiter dropped a glass of red wine which only had a couple of mouthfuls left but there was no apology or offer of a replacement

This Indian provides an excellent takeaway service! We chose the Bengal Lancer as an alternative to our usual Indian, as it was undergoing refurbishment. Despite having no expectations, we enjoyed a brilliant meal at a very reasonable price! The staff were so helpful, speedy on the order and friendly. The food was of excellent quality, and we will be returning here for the next one!

I went alone after checking menu online. I had one pint cobra, prawn puri, mushroom rice, garlic naan, chicken tikka bhuna. Total cost £16.45 plus tip. It was so good and fresh and all the onions and mushrooms were cut beautifully in the rice. Bhuna was so clean, not fatty. Naan was great. Puri was size of side plate and wonderful. Old style decor, good service, excellent food. The best in a long time. Easy parking in street.

I have visited on several occasions both in house and take away. I have never had a bad mouthful of food there and the waiters are lovely and attentive. Not the prettiest place but I look at nothing but my plateful of food.

Really enjoy coming here to eat, the banquet nights are really goo but also we get regular take aways from here, the food is always good and the staff are lovely.

Fairly busy on our visit, but service and food was good. Chicken Tikka Dopiaza was tasty with plenty of chicken and onions in a rich spicy sauce. £40 for two people with drinks is reasonable for the good standard of Indian food, Will definitely be visiting again.

I decided to give this restaurant another try having been disappointed with it on my last visit 3 years ago. I regret to say that nothing much has changed. The portions are small which is probably for the best as the food is of poor quality. If you are in a group, albeit a small one, then it is also likely that some of the food will arrive luke-warm. The one positive note is the service which is quite good. Best to give this one a miss.

Always get a decent meal here and rarely been disappointed (burnt poppadoms last week)... Having said that even my 4 year old loves the food here and he doesn't do spicy!!

On a wet windy night in December, this place was busy but you could see why. Food was absolutely fantastic with a number of truly different dishes and flavours. Extensive menu and an excellent wine list. Will definitely go back.

Very good food had a great time

The food is nice, the waiters are polite, however it was only us in the restaurant, lacked atmosphere and had club music on... Slightly overpriced too..

This used to be such a great Indian restaurant but unfortunately this is the third time we’ve had a really bad experience at this restaurant & will not go back again, such a shame as not many sit down Indian restaurants in Aldershot.

Went here with friends and we were delighted with the food choice. The lamb was cooked to perfection and everything was presented very well. This place is a little more expensive than some of the other local places however, it was very busy with diners as well as people coming in to collect take-aways.

Lo usual, todos tuvimos una idea de lo que habíamos pedido, y cada uno estábamos tan contentos de encontrar nuevas experiencias de sabor. Para envoltura, el servicio era excelente, con precios muy razonables y el ambiente era fantástico. Una gran noche y muy recomendable.

Very good curries - from butter chicken to Madras. Chicken tikka massala and butter chicken were too sweet last time, so we asked for less sweet when we ordered and they were perfect.

Food is extremely good. Indian lager is expensive at £5.00 a pint but very welcome with a hot curry.

Fuimos a este restaurante la noche para una comida. 5 en total. Fue una noche de banquetes y preguntamos si podíamos compartir 3 comidas para banquetes entre 5 personas - que no hagamos esto. Además, si tienes las sobras que se cargará un suplemento de £5 a fuerte para usted! ! Nunca tuve este problema con cualquier otro restaurante indio.
