Nice cakes but the most miserable staff ever. Popping in for some bread made me feel depressed. Staff had glum faces, no smiles and a mumbled thanks. If the staff were pleasant it would be an amazing place. Is it a French thing?

Belle Epoque is a cozy and cute coffee shop with friendly staff and amazing food. I will tell you more...... It's my favourite coffee spot! I truly enjoy the coffee taste and the pastry! Trust me, I've tried coffee in every shop around and Belle Epoque cappuccino is my pure love! I also like this place for how friendly the team is. They always happy to see you even if they are busy!

Great Saturday morning experience. The location, off Newington Greene, is just lovely--Newington Greene itself was full of locals enjoying the morning, and is surrounded by several other local businesses that are fun to explore. So, make a day of it. Start your day at Belle Epoque! The coffee was lovely, and the service was welcoming. There was a small seating section in front, and more in the back, and it was pretty easy to find a table at which to enjoy my breakfast and some reading. Note they ban laptops on weekends--understandable, given that it's a busier time. Get ready to have a tough time choosing what you want. The patisserie case had gorgeous offerings, including some special Christmas-themed ones. There was a variety of lovely looking baked goods. And some nice breakfast dishes. I ended up having a croissant--it was just as you want a croissant to be: crisp outside, soft inside, lots of layers. Yum. And I had a mushroom quiche that was perfectly sized for one, with delicious umami flavor and a beautiful pastry surround. This was paired with a lovely green salad dressed with a tangy mustard vinaigrette that cut through the richness of the quiche perfectly. Great little place.

Perhaps, the best coffee in London. Hot as the devil, silky smooth, and very strong. Peut-être le meilleur cafe au lait que ce trouve a Londres. Très, très chaud, texture de soie dans la bouche, et très, très fort.

I visited this restaurant on 2nd January for the first and last time. I placed order to eat-in with female member of staff who seemed to be in charge of more junior co workers. I was struck by her very unfriendly and abrupt demeanour, something I am not used to when visiting a café, although I do not live in UK. I was served at my table by a very nice and polite young man. When I finished eating, I went back to the counter to order two takeaway toasted sandwiches for my family. Having waited for more than 10 minutes, I noticed that a girl was preparing one toasted and one untoasted sandwich. I asked the same unfriendly server about my order. She got very angry with her co-workers, shouted at them, scowled at me saying they were busy and I would have to wait longer. It was apparent that the co workers were nervous and hassled by her. The hot drink that I ordered was cold by the time I got my sandwiches. This woman should realise it's si important to be friendly, and a smile doesn't cost anything.

I never leave a bad review but this place made me feel so unwelcome; as if I was an imposition and that they were doing me a favour by letting me order a cup of coffee. No smiles, no hellos, no goodbyes. Terrible. Please avoid. I'm giving two stars because the coffee was actually good. Shame about the rest.

I hate to leave a bad review because I know businesses are doing it tough at the moment but on my first visit to Belle Époque I was really let down by the service and felt compelled to leave a review. I was excited to try their special Halloween theme cakes and spent a while at the cabinet narrowing down the ones I wanted. I stepped a mere few steps from the cabinet to make my order and as I was pointing it out realised suddenly the cake I had decided on was missing. It turns out someone had rung up and bought up all of the remaining cakes as I walked around the counter . When I queried this with the woman who was serving me she just dismissively said “all gone” and I asked how because I only saw them a minute ago and she just shrugged her shoulders. I felt this was really poor form to prioritise someone who has phoned in rather than a customer physically in the store and on top of that to respond so rudely. I’m new to the area and making a point of visiting as many of the local businesses as possible and support them. A disappointing first and last visit at Belle Epoque, unfortunately I see this looks to be a trend from the other reviews which is such a shame as the cakes are tasty and delicious.

Avoid this place at all costs. Staff seems always unhappy to serve you and management does not have customer service skills at all. They joined the Eat Out to Help Out scheme and did the wrong calculation of the 50% trying to take advantage of the customer. When trying to fix this, staff behaved badly and they don´t take the complaint seriously. Desserts are not fresh and taste is not good enough. You have many options around, so try another place, as this place is a waste of money and time!

Dropped in for coffee on way through Newington Green. Stayed for three coffees! Decent flat white served by super friendly team. The Manager was lovely, didn’t rush me although close to closing time, and very welcoming and hospitable. Couldn’t do enough. Great to see sensible social distancing in place. Made me feel reassured/relaxed.

Great pastries and coffee - went daily for a long time (spent a fortune cheering me up in lockdown) until I was presented with a receipt from the week before being accused of not paying. I checked my bank and the payment had gone through. However, the reason I will never go back is the way I was treated and spoken to even if it was a genuine mistake of a customer it was aggressive and intimidating and hateful. She said well 'it's on you'. I went back once more thinking it was over and was shouted at and left hastily. Such a shame as it's a nice place and the other staff seem nice.

Came here for a friends 35th birthday party last weekend. The room was pretty packed, but there is a small beer garden out the back for overspill. Friendly bar staff and eclectic selection of drinks. Good value too. Place needs a proper sign outside it though - very easy to walk past. I wouldn't travel from out of area just to get to this place, but it was fun all the same.
