I took my children to the cinema, for a treat, yesterday (New Years Day) and we decided to visit Bella Italia (Grafton Centre, Cambridge) for lunch. We have done this many times before and my children were really looking forward to it.It was around 1pm when we were waiting at the door. We waited for a few minutes then a young lady, with blonde hair, came storming up to the door. No smile, no greeting, she just barked 'how many?' At me. I told her I needed a table for 4 plus a highchair. She rolled her eyes, stormed off then returned a few minutes later and led me to a table which was completely unsuitable. It was a table for 4 but right between another 2 tables, so there was nowhere to put the highchair. She tried to cram it on one side so that there would be three people sat where there was only space for 2 - very strange as there were clearly lots of suitable tables available. At this point I was in the middle of the restaurant with two 3 year olds, a 6 year old, a baby in a pram, a pile of coats, bags etc and had nowhere to sit. I pointed out that we couldn't fit at this table and suggested we could sit at an empty booth, just across from us. There was plenty of space there for the highchair so we wouldn't be in the way.She raised her voice at me and said 'Madam, can you not see I'm busy? I will get to you when I have a moment. That table isn't cleared so you can't sit there' and walked away. Just left me there.I was so embarrassed and upset. I gathered my children and we left. Interestingly, another customer told me that he wished his family had also left before they ordered as they were made to feel very unwelcome with their small child.I was stood outside of the restaurant with 4 hungry children and just burst into tears. It may not seem that bad to read but it was the tone I was addressed with that just left me feeling uncomfortable, unwelcome and like my (well behaved) children were a burden. I just wanted to take them out for a treat to celebrate the new year and this completely ruined it.I look forward to the new restaurants opening at The Grafton Centre, because Bella Italia currently have the monopoly. Not for long though, and people won't return if they get this kind of service from staff.

My friend and I came here for a spontaneous meal and Gyula was our main server who was excellent and very attentive throughout. Lodia was also great and also made sure if everything was okay, even though the restaurant was quite busy. I would definitely go again :)

Went to Bella italia with work colleagues twice this month, the service was amazing. The waiter who served us was Ghila. He was very friendly made us feel very welcome and my friend who never tips, tipped him both visits. We will be visiting again.

Dopo una mattinata di shopping io e mio figlio ci siamo fermati per il pranzo al bella Italia. Oltre ad aver apprezzato la bontà delle pietanze siamo rimasti colpiti dal l'accoglienza di Francesca ( la cameriera che ci ha servito). Solare, disponibile e sempre sorridente! Quando un buon piatto è accompagnato da un bel sorriso, è un piacere per il palato e per gli occhi. Ancora complimenti per lo staff!

Thursday evening out for a quick dinner. I have been welcomed and than served by the staff very quickly. I have had a pizza and a glass of wine. Both were matching the high expectations. The waitress (I did not have the opportunity to ask her name, but she was tall and with curly hair) impressed me for her attitude to smile to everybody that made the dinner even better. Keep serving this kind of food and smiling. Will be back soon!

I came for a lunch with my friends and we passed a lovely time. The food was great and fast, and our waitress,Lola was so nice and friendly. I really felt at home thanks to her cordiality and cheerfulness. We'll come for sure.

We when in after the shopping trip to the Grafton centre and we got a nice big table even if there were only two of us. I would say that the sits are not very comfortable but that isn't the staff fault!! The waitress that served us, Lidia,was very polite, attentive and friendly, she made us feel at home and to top it all up the food was excellent too!!!

The place is really nice, great atmosphere and the food is really good. Ate a delicious carbonara, and I am Italian, so I know what I'm talking about. Stop for lunch to break the monotony of the shopping centre . We had the antipast to start and the spaghetti with meatballs for my husband and the prawns spaghetti for myself. Went in for a pizza night with my friend I ordered the new pollo bianco . I didn't expect to be so big and tasteful and much more impressive: I managed to eat it all!!! Hahaha the waiter was very good and patient with us and he made sure we had a good time

Very good experience with all the staff been very attentive and friendly. We had our main an dessert in less then 1 hour. The chocolate fondante is a pudding that is a must when you going in Bella Italia !!!

We have been out for a lunch here and I have definetly eaten the best lasagna since I am in Cambridge. Cheesy sauce with chicken and pancetta. Simply amazing. Moreover, we have been served by an italian waitress ( Lidia I think was her name). Nevertheless she was busy, she had the time to suggest us with the best dishes to try. She was definetly helpful and polite. I will surely come back soon!

I been with my clients for a business lunch. The service was very slow and the food was cold after standing there in front of us waiting for someone to pick it up. We didn't have time to complain so paid the bill while still eating and left as soon as possible.

Went in bella to have a dinner with my old friend that I haven't seen for very long time.I'm glad I went in Bella Italia and not anywhere else!!! Everytime I feel like to have a Italian meal I know where to go and that is Grafton Centre. The staff is always smiling and working and laughing like proper Italian and the sound of the restaurant is like being in a Italian market place !! Delicious food and amazing service. Our waiter was incredibly polite and made the meal more enjoyable to my son. All team contributed to make our experience pleasurable. The presentation of the plates was excellent and with an average waiting time. We will definitely be back soon to have more experiences like this one!

Booked for 5pm film starting at 6.30. Restaurant was very busy far too many customers and not enough staff. Waited 30 mins for drinks and best part of an hour for meal. Husbands pizza was missing pepperoni, my chips and chicken burger was stone cold as was my friends. We pointed this out to staff and my husband was given a free glass of wine but my friend and I were not offered anything. No time for dessert but maybe that was a blessing...£10 was deducted from the bill but we will not be returning in a hurry. Beer was also served in short measures ☹️

I went to take some lunch with my mom and my son. As soon as we sat down a waitress came with some coulors for my son and we were asked about the drinks. The bartender brought us the drinks herself and 15 min later we had the food on the table too, which was really nice as we were starving! Banu (our waitress) came to check on us regularly and made my son laugh several times. It was an amazing experience for all of us, we will definitely come back soon.

We have been there for a family dinner. Everything was completely amazing. Our waiter (Cosimo) suggested us to try the new lasagna, which was perfect. The overall was very high and the service provided very attentive and professional. We will definitely come back!

I have spent a lovely Saturday evening in this brunch. Despite it was quite busy, we have received an attentive service from our waiter ( Cosimo). We didn't wait to be seat and we placed the drinks order staight away. I had a vanilla milkshake, which was great.After that went straight for the mains. I took a queen margherita and my friend a cannelloni ricotta. Both were really tasty.Finally, the icecream. In one word: amazing.I will come back for sure!!!

Having visited this branch of Bella italia I've found the staff to to be helpful and the food has arrived in a decent time and been fine. Having said that i am probably sympathetic to the staff that work here as I have worked for a branded restaurant and know that it's generally not a nice environment to work in. If your waiter/waitress seems fed up its probably because they are being paid minimum wage to work in an understaffed restaurant and deal with everything from screaming kids to grumpy parents. In addition to this they have probably been shouted at several times that day already because there's no vegetable spaghetti left or something equally as trivial. Someone in a previous comment asked 'why do us British people put up with this kind of restaurant?' The answer is that you don't 'put up with it' we have actually created it ourselves by continuing to support the huge, branded companies that want to squeeze every penny out of the business that they can - which has lead to mediocre food and restaurants that run short staffed. If you want home cooked food with amazing service then start supporting your locally owned, independent restaurants. If you go to a chain like bella italia with your voucher that you've got online for 50% off and expect quality food and service then you're kidding yourself. So what I say to the staff at this restaurant (and any other branded restaurant) is well done! Well done for working in such a challenging environment where you (probably) don't get a break for hours on end.Well done for rushing around and doing the job of two people because the company you work for is counting every penny of the millions they make every week.Well done for putting up with an exhausting job to pay the rent/get yourself through uni/whatever other reason you have.Most of all well done for not giving into the temptation of dumping bolognaise all over that rude customer with the screaming kid that treats you like a slave and then doesn't leave one penny tip.Rant over :-)

Bella Italia is een keten van Italiaanse restaurants. Deze ligt een beetje verborgen in het winkelcentrum The Grafton, naast de bioscopen. 's Avonds is het hier meestal rustig, want je moet weten waar het zich bevindt. Het uitgebreide menu biedt pizza's, pasta's en een paar andere gerechten. Helaas was op de avond dat ik er was bijna niets meer te krijgen toen we tegen sluitingstijd aankwamen. Redelijk gegeten, porties niet al te groot.

This was our 2nd visit as a family, service was slow last time but we did enjoy the food, it is a good choice with our teens as there is something for everyone. Went back today and after half an hour we left because we hadn't even been served our drinks. Waitress seemed for concerned about clearing tables than serving waiting customers.

I went here with a couple of other family members for a birthday meal. We each ordered the Cesar panini with chips. It was a good 30 mins before the waitress brought us the food which turned out to be completely the wrong meal! She ordered something different to what we said. 20 mins went by and a different waitress then came over to our table with the same meals the last waitress brought over. We had been waiting for at least an hour without any food. When the food did finally come, the chips were so burnt and dried out, the paninis were burnt and rock hard. We then asked for the manager who said he wouldn't even eat it! Very bad experience, definitely wouldn't recommend to anyone.

Me and my friend visited this restaurant before shopping for breakfast. We we're seated at 11, with only a couple of other people in the restaurant. Ordered to English breakfast and at 11:45 we asked the waiter we're are food was to be told '1 second'. Eventually, are cold breakfast arrived gone twelve. We then asked for brown sauce and ketchup to have mayonnaise and what only tasted like tomatoe soup in a small dish to be bought out! We quickly ate the burnt, cold and tasteless breakfast, refused paying the service charge and left. Terrible service and terrible food, disappointed.

My other half and I visited this particular branch of Bella Italia today, both of us usually enjoy Bella Italia's, as we are big fans of Italian food, this time however we left frustrated.When we arrived, we barely saw any staff around, we did eventually find a waiter, who in all fairness quickly showed us to a table and gave us menus. We both decided fairly quickly what we wanted, but here came the problem- we were waiting a good ten minutes before even a drinks order was made! The food arrived in a fairly reasonable time and was quite nice, however, once the table was clear and we'd asked for the bill, we still had to wait FIFTEEN minutes. It took for me to make eye contact with the waiter for him to realise we were still waiting. Following this- and about five minutes after (how long does it really take to print a receipt?) we got our bill, my other half put his card down, and again we were waiting around TEN minutes for him to come back with the card machine. What really puzzled both of us was the fact that there were three staff working between around 6 or 7 tables, which in my opinion can't take up as much time as it did. To me, this screams "Can't be bothered". If we visited during the evening when it was busier, we could understand the delay, however this was around 12.30 on a Tuesday afternoon, so I see no reasonable excuse as to why we were left waiting so long!

The worst dining experience I have ever experienced. Terrible on EVERY level. There were 4 of us and we were all really unhappy with our dried up, inedible meals. Aside from the appalling food, the most unpleasant aspect of my visit to Bella Pasta were the non-existent hygiene levels in the ladies loos. The floors appear to have never been cleaned. EVER. Could not help but worry about the standard of hygiene in the kitchen. The 'meals' were way over-priced and a service charge of 6.99 was added without consent. I don't know this place stays in business, just don't go there!

we went a few times. we knew one of the staff. she was tall and glamorous and i'm short, gay and not glamorous.but i know other men are jealous when she pecks me on the cheek. that's the good stuff out of the way. it's just very, very average. like any other bella italia, i suppose. what can you say? funny bit: she came to our table and turned her nose up at whatever it was we were eating - does it matter ? it all tasted the same ... - saying she was 'just working a shift to help her friend out', and she worked at 'another' restaurant which was better. as this 'other' restaurant turned out to be another bella italia, on the other side of town, you know i'm just not sure i believe her?

I have visited this restaurant before and was impressed. However, I had to ask for the lunch menu, waiter was keen to get us to buy from the main menu and said he had to ask the manager if we could have the lunch menu but we would have to wait 40 minutes! - lunch menu is printed 11.00am onwards, we arrived 11.30am!....menu eventually came and we ordered, food was good, we had three different staff serve us (family of four with two courses and about 4 other tables being served!)....certainly not a personal service. So, you can imagine my shock when we were charged a 12.5% service charge. According to the Tragus Group Customer Service Manager who own Bella Italia, this is an optional charge and it is on the menu. However, how an optional charge can be added to a bill by default is beyond me - I should have realised at the time but a lesson learn't - don't go back to Tragus Group restaurants unless you are happy with 12.5% service charges with in my case an indifferent service and three different waiting staff.

We went here with two visiting friends on Friday evening 1st Feb. We've been to the one at the Leisure Park Cambridge before and always found it good. This one we did not feel very welcoming. We were sat at a table facing Burger King, so there was no atmosphere. The duck in the marco polo was fatty and grisly. The calzone was hard and not much middle. All the main courses were warm not hot.The staff did not seem bothered, and we had to ask for our drinks twice. The food and drinks were expensive, for what it was. i.e. fast foodOn top of all this we also had a service charge added to our already expensive meal, which I asked to have taken off the bill, AND THEY TOOK IT OFF. If you visit this restaurant..beware.

Unfortunately this bella Italia is not up to standards compared to the others in Cambridge.We went there on for a meal and I was not impressed.My wife pasta was made with no effort,overcooked ans simply tasteless.Been Italian that has left me with no words of explanation.My main was bad presented and poorly cooked.The place doesn't feel welcome at all, it feel more like a warehouse adapted to be a food service type; I have omitted restaurant type as it can not be classified as such.Above all the price I have paid is way to high compared to a non existing service poor food , poor quality poor atmosphere.I am afraid to say it needs lots of improvements.

Went at lunch time with grandchildren and family. Waited over 30 minutes for order to be taken al - shown to seats 10 minutes before menu arrived, ten further minute before drinks and then waiter left and didn't return for further ten minutes to take order . When order arrived grandaughter didn't get her dip, we had to ask for cutlery and serviettes then eventually they realised one drink hadn't been brought. Main courses came 50 minutes after we sat down and they were cold. We had to ask for grandaughters dessert and finally when bill arrived they added service charge. The meal was the worst pizza's any of us had. Used Bella Italia in Leicester Square ,Sheffield Nottingham and Manchester but never again in Cambridge

A good meal if you want somewhere fairly priced, quite good if you want to wine and dine quickly after you've been shopping.

Superb food, freshly prepared and very tasty. Only down side was the 'optional' service charge which was not obvious on the menu, found this a little offensive. We would have left a tip but decided against this when we had to pay over £5!!!! Up to that point it had been a faultless meal. Polite staff, friendly and personable.

Went for the lunch menu and the food was quite good - two courses for £13 at a good standard, was going to leave a tip of £5 but the staff decided to put an "optional" service charge onto the bill without saying anything which I thought was extremely rude and having worked in a restaurant before this is something I wouldn't dream of doing! In the end the staff found themselves out of pocket as I left no tip and paid the service charge which was less than a fiver ! Unbelievable ....

Lunch for 3. X2 pasta dishes excellent, X1 salad excellent. Ordered X2 Chardonnay, awful, but sent back and offered a far superior wine. Service good.

We visited the Bella Italia at Cambridges Grafton Centre last week and we were seated straight away. Then we had to wait five minutes for menus to be brought to our table , followed by a further ten minute wait for our order to be taken despite it not being particularly busy. The meals were very good though but I wish they would not serve the runner beans so very undercooked ! We were given a voucher for 30% off our next meal to be taken within two weeks from Sunday to Thursday (a promotion) which we used today when we met up with some Swedish relations in London. The service is usually very much quicker than that which we experienced today so let's hope it was just a blip and will not become a regular occurrence.

Had some pretty terrible Bella Italia food in the past so it was a very pleasant surprise when a good tasting, freshly cooked pizza turned up.Service was good- got a very chatty waiter who was interested and focused. Forgot my tastecard so ended up paying full price - but it was proper food and so I didn't mind at all!

A very good chain Italian restaurant, this particular one offers breakfast menu while the lunch menu starts at noon but if one arrives there at 11:30 they do take the order for lunch. Thumbs up to that! Many restaurants will only start taking lunch order at 12 noon but this one is just great that it is more flexible. The pasta and pizza are good! You can be sure of the food quality and taste.

This is a great little restaurant located outside the cinema complex in the Grafton centre shopping mall, the staff are especially friendly and attentive, the menu is good, you can watch the chef making the pizzas' if you are seated nearby.I have eaten here too many times to remember and have never had a bad meal, if Antonio is your waiter you are in for great service with a smile.

Great option in this part of Cambridge. Good, simple Italian food at a reasonable price and friendly, efficient staff.

I was positively impressed about the food, I went with my girlfriend, the service was friendly and quick. the place is very clean and the food was quite nice we had the melanzane parmigiana and bucatini with prawns. The bill was the only negative note, a little bit too pricey considering that is a chain restaurant.

This is a great place for simple, well-cooked Italian food. It's much better than you might expect given the location in the middle of a shopping centre. I prefer it to the several Pizza Express resatuarants in Cambridge and it is superior to Jamie's Italian which is truly awful and survives on his name alone.

Just returned from lunch at this restaurant. The size of my portion of beef stew was minute and the kitchen was totally unprepared to give me any more. For the price of £10.75 I feel absolutely ripped off. The restaurant manager could not be located at the time and only when I complained at the end of the meal did she offer me something else. Will definitely not go back or recommend to anyone else. Apparently the food I ordered is not cooked on the premises and comes pre-packed and cooked - another reason I definitely won't go back!

This is a nice restaurant with a great atmosphere considering the Grafton Centre atmosphere in general. It's also the best place you can have a meal there. The food is nice but nothing really special and the service is good.If you need to go shopping and need a nice meal this is the place.

This restaurant up in the food centre. A great deal of money must have been spent on the decor. Each room is themed,. We like to eat in the 'kitchen' which even has washing hanging up. Other rooms also have Italian areas, eg a courtyard, a cafe etc. Once inside you can forget the sterile atmosphere of a shopping mall.Food is excellent and staff friendly with good service. What is more, vouchers are downloadable from their website or voucher codes.johnep
