Good breakfast, nice French croissant and baguette, adorable staff, very lucky to have kind of European style in area. Well done Belgique.

What has happened to this place?? Used to love it in here, but it’s gone down the pan! Came in with wife and two kids. Got served by a guy who can’t speak English but pretends he can, my wife is Indian and guess he’s not or she could have explained it better to him. Two stuck up rude girls stand behind the counter doing nothing but stare at you while you’re eating and when you ask them for something ignore you and get the poor guy that can’t speak the language to see you despite them doing nothing at the time. Stand there any longer rigamortis would set in. We ordered omelet and toast for my son and scrambled eggs on toast for my daughter. Out came three omelettes on toast (he acted like he understood us so we were surprised) There was us and one other table of people in there. My wife went to the counter and asked the lady who was staring at us the whole time we ate, for the bill, she asks us what table we were at in response when it was right infront of her. She then proceeded to try and charge us for the extra wrong meal we didn’t order and sent back but we didn’t pay that and she rudely sorted out the bill with my wife and we left…. Never to return again!! The end

I was today with my dad and my baby girl. we were sitting outside drinking coffee and someone threw hot water from the balcony. The water fell on me and carried my baby. The owner must take measures, this is not normal. The water was not pure water, I have evidence on my pants, it's like dirty water. But what if something happens to my baby? who is responsible? I will not leave it at that. Thank you

Well, not overly impressed - the waiter took my order, brought the coffee and came back 20 minutes later to say ‘the kitchen is closed for food’. Surely he knew that when he took the order?

The cakes are simply off the charts! Pistachio and vanilla cake was absolute heaven

Been a loyal customer but have given up now. It has seen better days. Place is tired and the food quality has become really poor. There are so many better options in the area and they are not keeping up with the competition.

Very expensive for milkshakes. £6.20 for a bit of milk and a couple of scoops of ice cream. Some ice cream fell on the counter and the assistant picked it up and put it into the blender.

This place has really gone downhill in the last couple of months. The service now is so slow, the assistants are surly and couldn’t care less. As a regular customer who took friends there three or four times a week for lunch as well as coffee, I no longer visit. What a pity.

As hadn't tried this spot before, dropped in for quick coffee and cake. Despite the nice visual appeal of the pattiserie display, the apple strudel and mini cinnamon buns were all stone cold (almost as if not fully thawed from frozen) nor were the coffees served hot. A sudden strong smell of sewage cut our stay short. A pity as I do not give local businesses negative feedback lightly l.

They seem to have taken all pork off the menu and replaced things like bacon with chicken. Quality of food was awful, served cold and staff seem moody. Avoid. Bread and marmalade down the road is much better.

We went for breakfast a couple of weeks ago, the food was awful. Eggs Benedict consisted of a hard boiled egg on a stale muffin which had clearly been frozen and not defrosted properly! Full breakfast was also as bad and the price was very high for the quality.

Food took ages to come and was stone cold when it did.

Great customer service and a menu that has something for everyone. Really appreciated the kindness of the staff on my most recent visit with one woman even running out to bring me an item I’d left behind on the table. Would 10/10 recommend to visitors and regulars in the local Woodford Green area.

Very Disappointed at how me and my colleague was treated and spoken to at Belgique just a moment ago. Very moody and made us feel like we wasn't wanted inside the shop. I have no idea why, as it's not like we are not dress smart, which shouldn't have anything to do with it in the first place. I asked which was the healthiest roll was, she replied “why look at the menu yourself” Not a smile to be seen. After returning to pick up the rolls, my colleague was in the middle of saying thank you very much and she said “goodbye” I will definitely not be going in there again, suggest you look into some new staff. They will lose your business money. Extremely rude and moody.

Great food but service was a bit slow, perhaps because it's Sunday. Will go again for sure.

A group of us popped in unplanned and found the staff very accommodating as we put several tables together, ordered as a group and had more people turned up staggered. All orders were correct and the coffee tasted fine. It had everything we expected.

Myself and 4 friends visited the Woodford Green branch today for lunch. I ordered the jacket potato with tuna for £8.50. The potato was only just cooked with very dry tuna ( hardly any mayo) and a lettuce leaf with 2 very thin slices of tomato ( which was stated as “ salad” on the menu. ) My friends also ordered jacket potatoes as well. We waited approximately 35-40 minutes from ordering to receiving our lunch. As we had 2 over 80s with us, I went to the counter to ask for some butter and told the staff the potatoes were very dry. I was given 3 very small wrapped butter portions between 4 of us. One 82 year old didn’t have any butter, as there wasn’t enough. We were so hungry by the time we received it all, I found it difficult to complain more than that. I think £8.50 is atrocious for a dry potato and lettuce leaf with dry tuna mayo. I had to help the old ones out of their seats and to my car afterwards, otherwise I would have complained more. None of us will be returning. Very poor lunch. Very unhappy.

I very much enjoyed ordering my cakes from this particular branch until I saw the Manager picking up a piece of cake that I wanted to buy with his hands ! Not tongs. I was shocked. When I wrote to the branch I was offered nothing as a gesture of goodwill in light of the bad and poor hygiene standard service and also considering that I spent over £50. Neither was the important issue of how food must be handled with tongs or catering gloves addressed and acknowledged. Very disappointed with the hygiene level, customer service and whole management .( Other female manage present also who couldn't be asked to serve me as I stood for a long time waiting to be served ) .I never used the branch again because of the way the manager handled cake. He could have also been serving other customers food with his hands ( no gloves).

Nice patisserie coffee shop for breakfast and lunch.

Bought an oat flat white and bagel to eat in. The bored waiter who remained silent throughout delivered the overfilled coffee to the table inevitably spilling contents into the saucer. Without uttering a word he walked away. I expected him to return with either another coffee or at least a cloth and another saucer. Nope. Not within his brief. When the food finally arrived I asked him to replace the coffee. Again no apology or explanation. Nada. He did eventually return with the coffee without making a comment. Where do they get these people? Absolutely no customer service skills. There are plenty of other cafes about so I suggest you look elsewhere.

Would like more choices of vegan food in general but particularly breakfast menu options

Went in to order two take away milkshakes for a Friday treat. A good selection of flavours, however I thought the price for two was extortionate at over £11 (£5.50 approx each). However as I had my young son with me who was waiting patiently and looking forward to his treat, that I accepted the cost and paid. Waited a few moments and the shakes were ready but when tasting them (once outside the shop) they were the most basic of shakes and it would have been pricey if I paid £5.50 for the pair! In fact the strawberry flavoured one wasnt nice. It's not the first time I've been let down by the place but it had been 4+ years ago and things can change. I was wrong and will not be returning for further custom!

I went to Belgique in Woodford Green to have breakfast with my daughter, we've been many times over the years but it has really gone downhill, the sausage and bacon are disgusting, they were a weird colour & shape, when I complained I was told they were made of turkey. It doesn't say this on the menu. I didn't want to pay but they insisted that is how their breakfast is now. Avoid at all costs, I couldn't eat it and they still charged us! I don't usually write reviews but it was awful and I felt terrible because my daughter was treating me to breakfast. I wish I had taken a photo to demonstrate how revolting it looked!

Average coffee and food with particularly slow service. Better than the Wanstead Belgique

Been going to Belgique Woodford Green for years now. Coffee and either petite Belgique or smashed avocado, poached egg on toast and as always a side of bacon. I like my bacon crispy so I ask for it well done. Went this week and ordered avocado, poached egg and bacon. In short, my egg was basically hard boiled and my bacon looked weird. When I asked I was told it was turkey bacon and not proper bacon. I asked if I could have proper bacon and was told they no longer serve any pork products. If you look at the menu and the menu online you can still see pork and veal sausages. No asterisk. Nowhere do it say that the bacon is turkey. FYI the turkey bacon tastes disgusting. Dry, tasteless. Going 100% halal is perfectly acceptable but it just has to be advertised. As it stands I was not told before the food was put in front of me. I had to ask and that for me is unacceptable. My family and I will not be returning to Belgique Woodford Green. If Belgique have gone halal to please one or two elements of society at the expense of all others, I personally believe that is unfortunate. But that is the choice of the restaurant and I respect that. Belgique then have to respect the fact they may lose customers because of it.

Had afternoon tea here. The food was delicious and the Belgian hot chocolate was tasty. The only downside was that the food came over 30 mins later.

The best coffee and the most incredible pastries in Essex. Even during lockdown they maintain high standards. Be sure to try their cakes and croissants.

The ladies in there are always friendly. The sandwiches are always fresh and the cakes delicious. The box to keep the cake slice from getting squashed is always really handy.

It’s painful to write this review as the staff are friendly and the owner lovely but for the last three times we have got take away sandwiches the orders have been wrong. Totally frustrating as this place used to be our go to for a quick take away sandwich/baguette but the fact that things are being missed out/totally incorrect is awful customer service.

The Belgique Cafe and Patisserie in Wanstead has the most delicious , freshly baked and prepared cakes , buns , pastries. All accompanied by fresh hot or cold drinks including an excellent range of coffees. The management are most accommodating and can offer Vegan and other allergy safe options. They will ensure your visit is an experience you will want to repeat again.

First visit, excellent food, service and setting. Will definately use again.

Good food and bread, generally nice staff - but I used to buy a loaf there a couple of years back and get a couple of frozen ones for the fridge. Eventually the management didn't like getting a frozen one out and I was told they wouldn't do it again... As the frozen ones get rebaked for sale in the shop, I wouldn't buy a rebaked one only to refreeze it - so I got my bread elsewhere, my custom not being particularly valued. Now there is a great place for bread a few doors away anyway.

This is a reliable local cafe propped up by friendly and welcoming service but let down by rather dated interior and slightly peculiar menu choices. As a result, it's somewhat overpriced for what it's offering.

This is situated in The Broadway, Woodford Green. This is a 1 minute walk away from Woodford's underground station. Which is surrounded by various other shops, restaurants and bars. I've been in here a few times now, and on each occasion the brunch has always been phenomenal. I have ordered an eggs Benedict and various sandwiches here. They do a variety of different breads, which is great for me, because I can only eat sourdough or soda bread. The food is always well presented and so so filling because the portion sizes are extremely generous. The flat white coffee, is also always beautiful too. The service is always superb, as I'm always served quickly and with a smile. The general ambiance in here, is comfortable and relaxing. This place is inexpensive and great value for money. I highly recommend this establishment to others.

The Belgique was a popular meeting house for locals especially mums who had just dropped of kids at school. Sudden closure was a shock to locals , and no official reason has been posted

I ordered burger and chips twice (come to £28) and the burgers was not cooked properly it was still a lot of blood in the middle of the meat, for £28 it should have been cooked right the way though it. But the chips was okay, how can you as the manager think that it is ok to charge £28 for a uncooked burger!!!!

It just seems to get worse and worse. It used to be a place to go to, not now. Belgique needs to recreate itself and put the passion back. Poor on all counts.

Disappointed with Belgique. Went in with my son for a light lunch last Saturday. Delighted to find salt beef bagel on the new menu and I ordered it. However, the salt beef was dry like twigs and has no taste. The bagel was burnt on the side. My son ordered pasta with king prawn added. The pasta came without the prawns. After he pointed it out, they brought a small dish of small prawns, probably about 5 in total and they were cold. The added prawns itself was priced ￡4. We have been living in Woodford for 34 years, visiting Belgiue for numerous times. As another review said, it is expensive and getting more so. I dont mind paying for good quality but it is more and more disappointing. I want to support local business, especially those have been here for many years. But unless Belgique makes a better change, I dont think its future looks promising. I was rather surprised when we stepped into Belgique that day. Lunch time, very little customers.

It’s been a while since I’ve visited but I would heartily recommend the salt beef bagel and the biscuit butter milkshake is amazing!

I write this about both the Woodford and South Woodford outlets, which both seem to have plummeted, not in terms of the food, but in terms of customer service. When Belgique opened its two coffee houses in Woodford before 2012, it offered excellent food, especially it's cakes, pastries, smoothies, and breakfasts. Service was great and the South Woodford outlet was especially nice to eat in. Only downside was that it was very expensive compared to nearby cafes. Opening a Belgium-themed cafe, with Wimbledon Village prices, on Woodford Broadway ten years ago, was clearly designed to serve a minority of wealthy footballers wives and retirees off the Monkhams, not the majority. But that's fair enough, some of us cold crawl out of the gutter to eat there occasionally and it was worth it. I would have given it a four out of five a decade ago. ...But the problems began for the Woodford branch once Costa opened. Costa offered better coffee than Belgique (yes, yes, I know the posh hipsters of Walthamstow, moving into Woodford for the schools, will be horrified at me saying Costa coffee tastes good, but some of us use our 'taste buds', rather than fashionable branding and Twitter to guide our palate). Like many, I stopped using Belgique for coffee, but still went in to eat. That was until this month when I visited both South Woodford's branch and this one... The food is still decent, but the service is performed without warmth. Don't expect smiles, small talk or opinion sought, you are not made to feel wanted as a customer. My tea for two(?) was a single teabag with a pot of water - undrinkable - and whilst they did offer me a second teabag to their credit, it first involved joining the back of a ten-minute queue; by which time my friend had finished their coffee and cake. They used to serve child-size hot chocolate and babycinos I recall, but now they firmly don't - clear decision to deter parents with young kids, which one can understand. However, spending £3 on a hot drink for a three-year old they can't finish doesn't seem like great shopping. Staff in both branches seem to thoroughly unenjoy interaction with the customer in what seems to be a fairly relaxed/not-to-busy-or-quiet environment. It's taken me five-six visits in the past year to put my finger on it, and I've always been served by different faces. Do the management bear responsibility for this or is it the people waiting the tables or tills? I don't want any employee told off! I should add all the staff seem EFFICIENT and on-the-ball... they just don't appear to welcome you. Sorry that is perhaps unfair of me, but it's worth mentioning if some of you value being valued! What's for sure is I won't go there again. I fear the franchise will continue to free fall will such lacklustre customer service.

Family visit for lunch on Sunday. Surprised it wasn't busier. Good choice of sandwiches and salads to choose from. My kids couldn't finish so took away.

Today, on 7th of April, 2019, we had coffee at this establishment. On the way out we were verbally abused by the manager or the owner that we were too friendly to the waitress there. Belgique owner/manager started shouting at us that my colleague gave the waitress his business card. My colleague simply tried to be friendly, and he was accused of trying to recruit this waitress. As I am the owner of the company this Belgique manager was accusing of, I tried to explain that this was not the case, but this gentleman was not interested in listening to me, continued shouting. I am deeply disturbed by his behaviour. We were loyal customers, but will never come there again.

Always a treat awaits when you visit for refreshments . I love getting to this place whenever i get to the area.

I prefer this coffee shop to the ones in other locations, as the atmosphere is a bit more relax to the one in Wanstead, for example, and the service is much faster. Cakes are pricey, but well, they don't have many competitors in this area, so you pay what they ask for or just don't eat any cake, I bet most of people just pay and eat...If you order food, be ready to be ripped off. The staff should be trained a bit better, to have better social skills, as it is difficult to see them smiling, maybe they have too much work.

To start with, I only go to Belgique Woodford Green to buy cakes/s to take away.I love this place and I also hate this place.I love it because their cakes look good, taste good and is reasonably priced.I hate it because their cakes make losing weight more difficult.

Visited recently with a friend for afternoon tea, scone with jam and clotted cream. First time here was very good which was breakfast. Second visit in the afternoon was awful. Scone was as dry as the Sahara and could have been as a weapon. No fruit scones available. The cream was neither clotted of spreadable. It was runny single cream. The food was inedible. Pity the place is not consistent in its quality of food.

Visited this branch in Woodford at lunchtime, service was disappointing, Hot chocolate didn't even look like Hot Chocolate or taste like it. When I sent it back , the staff didn't not even ask why or if I wanted another one or replacement for smtg else. It's like they did not care. Customer service is important, definitely not worth the extortionate prices they charge. Will not go again.

We go here often, it’s lovely. The food is always fresh and the staff are very happy to help and cheerful. It always seems pricy for what you get though and although the food is good it’s not priced correctly for a daytime cafe. Today this came to a crescendo when my friend had the all day English breakfast. It’s £19.99!!! That’s almost £20....for a breakfast!?! Wait, you’re thinking, surely it’s the best ingredients sourced locally and delivered on a golden platter. No, it was very mediocre. Large yes, but still a very basic breakfast. They try and make the price of this meal acceptable by placing all the individual components in separate small dishes. A dish of beans, a dish of mushrooms, a dish of rocket (quite annoying and even though more crockery has to be washed it doesn’t warrant £20)

Simple light lunch with friends. Warm qnd friendly service we all opted for a prawn cocktail small roll. You get a choice of breads including gluten free. Table service was excellent for a " coffee shop" this is so much more. Speciality cakes and chocolates available, pastries and light meals. A little on the expensive side but worth it for excellent quality of food and coffee as well as service.

I don't really understand why the coffee tastes so different here to the one in Wanstead. I don't think the staff are properly trained in this branch. The one in Wanstead tastes so good!

I was deeply disappointed with the food I ordered. I was choosing what to order and asked if they had any scones. The waitress informed that the scones were baked on the premises. So I was very much looking forward to receiving a freshly baked scone. What I was served was a small, soft and bland supermarket scone. That had been warmed through.The worst I have ever tasted. When I paid for me food, I said how disappointed I was and was looking forward to a fresh baked scone. Are these made on the premises, I asked. The waitress said they were baked in the shop. What she should have said was that they were bought from a supermarket and warmed up on the premises... Staff are unfriendly and miserable looking... I won’t be visiting again.

The staff in this café are cold and unfriendly. They make no effort to even feign a smile. The scones were awful, tiny and looked and tasted like they were from the nearest supermarket. I will not be returning.

I won't be returning. The staff were unfriendly and I paid £2.95 for a small shop bought scone. I went to Waitrose straight afterwards and got better service in their cafe.

I popped in for a spot of lunch on my own today, it was semi-full but I found a table where I was comfortable. Most other diners were considerate of the other patrons, except for a group of very loud teachers, all of whom seemed to talk at volume and over one another. This was the only downside to my visit.

First time in South Woodford and just stumbled across this Cafe. Beautiful cakes in the window, so we were drawn in. Lunch was delicious and lots for my veggie teenager to eat. Service was good and coffees great. The only thing I will say is it is expensive but you do get what you pay for. Not good for small children but excellent for grown ups and older kids who love food. Will go back in a week or so when we are scheduled in Woodford again.

I have been here a couple times and every time been disappointed! Mainly the staff are so unfriendly. I asked for extra halloumi in my wrap and they made me buy a whole halloumi wrap for £10 so I paid £20 for a chicken and halloumi wrap. Not only that the wrap quality was terrible. Soggy chicken and just not what you’d expect from the price. I rarely ever leave reviews but feel this place definitely needs deserves one.

An affordable sweet afternoon treat. The turmeric coconut latte was delicious so was the pear 🍐 caramel cheesecake. We definitely will be coming back.

Went there for mothers day and my mums and my haloumi wrap had mouldy lettuce. Sent them back but was put off, we had cakes instead which were nice and my husband enjoyed his breakfast. However service could've been better and it would've been nice to receive some sort of goodwill gesture therefore wouldn't return. There are plenty of other places where I can have nice cakes!

Since the renovation, the cafe looks much nicer and has a better menu overall. But the new female staff are rude and not attentive. We had to keep asking till we actually went to find our own cutlery and napkins and they also served our warm dishes as cold on the plates. Poor staff attitude and no professional customer service.

Met up with a friend for some lunch and chose the eggs benedict again. Just as tasty as before. Quick service, lots of seating and a good selection of coffees. Cakes continue to be overpriced so I avoided them. My waist line thanked me.

A delightful patisserie in wansted. Really tasty cakes, the strawberry tart is lovely. The seating outside is nice and overlooks the park. Im not too keen on the orange decor, but a lovely place to have lunch or coffee.

Belgique es muy agradable, limpio y acogedor. Gran lugar para encontrarse con amigos para tomar un café o un café y un aperitivo. El servicio es bueno y la comida está muy bien presentada y posiblemente un poco caro para lo que te dan. Es una tarjeta de fidelización ofrecidos así más que visitar el más te ofrecen simplemente no pierde u olvida su tarjeta normalmente.

Aquí el domingo para tomar un aperitivo con mi esposa a las 5 de la tarde. El lugar estaba vacío, así que fue genial, ya que normalmente el servicio es lento en todo el Belgique. Teníamos dos tartas con un café con leche. No hace...
