Very poor takeaway. Took over an hour to deliver, and I don’t mind waiting for quality, but this was very poor. I know eggs have gone up in price but they should still be a predominant part of an egg fried rice! Everything else tasted just bland or a bit weird. The beef in the beef and mushroom was too thick and chewy. Thought we’d give this place a go, but certainly won’t go back, sorry.

As a family its been a few years since we used this restaurent for take out but we regularly enjoy this cuisine.. On a good note it arrived quickly. We ordered three mains with rice and a starter. The rice dishes were good. The Thai Green Chicken was very oily, watery, with an overrpowering heat and the chicken was grey , tasteless and very offputting. We literally could not eat it. The pork balls were 90% batter and 10% chicken( we have photos) and the soup watered down and lacking its usual delicious flavour. The Kung Pai chicken looked and tasted very different from what we are used to having with this dish., It was deep fried in a dark red sauce that tasted like a strong chilli based sweet and sour . We ended up leaving most of the takeaway. So so disappointing.

Good value Chinese takeaway in Lewes which I have used regularly during lock-down without any issues.Food excellent and they deliver within a 3 mile radius of Lewes. Really good value for money and an extensive menu choice , If ordering at the weekends it can get really busy so if you want to eat early call them around 5.30pm. Prefer the takeaway option as when I last visited it was full of delivery drivers collecting meals which didn't lead to a good environment to eat in.

Came here for dinner between Christmas and new year. Restaurant had boxes of Christmas crackers on spare tables and waitresses chatting with delivery driver and rolling cigarettes in full view. Which did not create any ambience. Food was reasonable nothing amazing. When the bill came it was dearer than I expected for what we had and they charged us £5.60 for 2 small (less than half a pint) soda water and lime cordial!! We queried this and the manager came down stairs and did nothing. Not interested. As a bottle of Diet Coke of the same size was £1.80. Won’t come back and definitely much cheaper and nicer places to eat in lewes

Very quiet in restaurant but busy with takeaways, just me and the lovely chinese lady and her 19 year old female member of staff. I had the BBQ ribs, prawn fried rice and sizzling fillet which was absolutely delicious. Very quick and hot, very good chinese. Recommended.

They deliver within a 3 mile radius of lewes and £1 is the charge 5.30-11pm Extensive menu including vegetarian meals,Far East cuisine, seafood dishes, meat dishes, etc. Was really impressed with the quality of the food all 3 times when we had it delivered. Have been a customer of Beijing for more years than I can remember, and although the food has had its ups and downs, it has generally been good and the customer service has always been great. Not today! On the phone we struggled to get the order placed as the English guy on the phone seemed to struggle to know what was what. When I went to collect, I had to sit and listen to two English staff and a driver talking all manner of nonsense, swearing, and then talking about a ‘problem customer’ where the delivery driver had made up the price of the order on the spot as he had lost the delivery ticket, upsetting the customer as the price turned out to be wrong!! All this in front of me, a customer!! Get your act together guys. Enough restaurants in the town are closing - you don’t want to be next because of shoddy service Food though was definitely on the better side, if not a little watery with the various sauces we had

Have tried most (if not all) of the Chinese takeaways in Lewes. All of them are mediocre, but we'd managed to find a set of dishes we quite liked from Bejing. Having ordered tonight we discovered that every single item on the menu has been increased by 50p-£1 per item (five out of the seven things we ordered were £1 more each). The spring rolls were not to their usual standard (which again, is usually slightly above mediocre). The outside of containers are always greasy when getting them out of the bag. We've had mixed experiences with the temperature of the food upon arrival. Again, we were happy to kind of accept Chinese takeaway is mediocre in these parts - but not now we're paying ludicrously inflated prices for very mundane food and variable service. Won't be ordering again.

. . Me sorprendió gratamente.

Our family likes Chinese food, especially the way they do pork and the Beijing is our favourite Chinese restaurant in Lewes. Mostly we have meals delivered, but the other evening we finished a show in the Town Hall late and the Beijing was closing, but they stayed open long enough to cook us a delicious meal. The family's two children kept us entertained skating around the empty dining room. I favour duck pancakes and crispy beef, while their Char Siu is worth trying too.

The worst meal out I have had for many a year. Granted I hadn't been to this restaurant for about 13 years but oh my what a difference. The service was absolutely appalling - after an 1 hour we had only managed to get the starters!! The food was just about OK - really nothing special and the "sizzling" chicken - had no sizzle whatsoever, yet the one that came out 5 minutes later to another table was sizzling like mad! They were granted overrun with takeaway orders that doesn't take away from the complete lack of any form of service. Never again

I have used the Beijing for many years but this is the first time under new management. The food was good but when we sat down to eat we had a call from the delivery driver saying she had forgotten to give us our rice. I explained this was not the case and we had all our order. She then phoned again saying I had called twice and asked for this rice and needed to pay for it. I told her this was simply not true and the rice was not ours. At 23:00hrs when settling for bed my home phone rang and it was the restaurant manager telling me I had under paid. That I needed to pay cash for the extra rice and refused. I stated once again that I paid by card and only called once. I never ordered or received more rice. I was effectively told I had to pay. I of course refused. When I told her this was adult services she told me it was my fault and I needed to pay them now over the phone. Disgusting service. Avoid at all costs. We will not be back

I have been a loyal customer of the Beijing Chinese Restaurant in Lewes for over 20 years. Last night I went there to order and collect a take away and while waiting told my 5 year old daughter that we were sitting at the same table where I had once enjoyed a meal with my father - and he died in 1997!Normally I order a take away by phone or to be delivered. Last night we were passing and decided to order at the restaurant and wait while nibbling prawn crackers (they were very nice!). I admit it was around 7pm on a rainy Friday night, so peak time. No-one was eating in the restaurant, but take away orders were being rung through at a rate that the staff could not cope with. I think there were probably three staff on the premises. When I arrived two were in the kitchen and one was taking orders. There were also two people working on deliveries. During the time we were waiting that ratio changed to two staff taking orders and only one in the kitchen, which meant the rate of taking orders increased and the rate at which they were cooked decreased. When food was cooked it was brought bagged up to the restaurant area. If people were collecting it was handed swiftly to them, but if it was for a delivery it was just left on a table. During my long wait (around 45 minutes) I saw two orders for delivery sitting on a table for about 20 minutes. When the delivery person came to pick them up for the delivery they were put into an insulated bag, but I can't imagine they were very hot by the time they reached their destinations. Our food was not very nice. The sweet and sour sauce included large globs of jelly, which I assume is part of the sauce used to cook the dish - ie. it had not been properly mixed / cooked. I have also realised we were overcharged. Our bill should have been £14.20 and they charged us £19.20. I will be going back to complain, but then never visiting again unti,l perhaps, the management changes again.

Old school style Chinese restaurant. No notion of quality or even acceptable ingredients. As an example we ordered peeking style fish. The fish strips should be battered slightly in egg and the sauce should have enough vinegar to be slightly sharp. Here the fish seemed frozen, was tasteless, no texture, in a thick batter and was served in a gloopy and tasteless sauce. Similar for the other dishes. It's a shame as it's the only Chinese restaurant in town. I guess that's why they don't have to try to hard. I really don't understand how any reviewer can give this anything more than 1 star.

Staying in Lewes overnight on business I decided I fancied a Chinese takeaway. Found the Beijing and checked the reviews – they seemed very mixed but I decided to give it a try. I didn’t pre-order just dropped in. Found the staff to be friendly and once ordered the food arrived in a reasonable time. What was it like? Well, not the best Chinese takeout I’ve ever had, but it certainly wasn’t the worst. Mixed starter was excellent, the main course okay (batter on the pork balls was a little too hard). Perfectly edible and I will use again when in the area.

Living in South Chailey we are very limited for takeaways that deliver to our area, after an extensive Google search we came across this restaurant and the menu looked lovely. So ordered the special set menu for 2 at £14.50 per head (for myself, 14 year old and 5 year old daughter) On phoning in the order we were told an hour for delivery, which was spot on and reasonably charged .The food was hot and very tasty and there was enough to feed my whole family! A very enjoyable meal, will definitely be ordering again.

Ordered a meal for two to take away to finish our journey home from a really nice holiday. The starters were good average and we were hoping the beef and green peppers with chili, chicken and cashew with Singapore noodles would be as good, but unfortunately not. The vegitables had been delicately sliced with a chainsaw and spices and flavours added with surgical tweezers, a shame because the menu promised more. Not a disaster but the jury's out until next time.

The girl serving looked like she had no experience in doing just that also no uniform as such ,looked like she was just back from shopping.Facilities up a very narrow steep staircase were tired and needed a good spruce up . The hand basin really needed a good scrub as being glass showed lots of lime - scale and marks. It was sad to see a old favourite family place to eat had lost its sparkle and top notch customer service.

Very poor. My expectations were low having had a few takeouts from the Beijing in the past. Sadly the food excelled itself in its own mediocrity. Each dish seemed identical to the last with the exception of the meat, which was bland and tasteless no matter if it was beef or chicken. The coup de gras however belonged to the pork balls which were burnt and contained pork so tough you needed a drill to cut it up. Never again!

Chinese food is so ubiquitous these days, and there's a lot of bad Chinese food out there. It's unusual to find a good Chinese restaurant, so the Beijing was a great surprise. A broad range of high quality, tasty food, delivered nice and hot to our door, and even better served fresh to our table when we went there with friends recently. Makes you wish you had a bigger stomach. Highly recommended.

Me and my partner ate here the other night and went off of the Szechuan banquet set price menu, which was just £17.50 a person. This set priced menu was made up of 3 courses -The first being a mixed platter of chicken satay, crispy seaweed and ribs. The second being crispy duck and pancakes. And the third being several dishes including egg fried rice, crispy chilli beef, chicken in black bean and Szechuan king prawns. This whole set menu was perfect, each dish was of a high quality and we even managed to swap a mixed fried vegetable dish for chow mein as we wanted a noodle dish, and the staff did this so kindly with no struggle and no extra charge on the bill. All round, the meal was so tasty and our waiter was so helpful, doing everything he possibly could! This meal with two alcoholic drinks each only came to £24 a person - what a deal! I definitely recommend it here. A great Chinese restaurant.

We went to Beijing restaurant for a mid week dinner. We had looked online beforehand and saw that they offer a set price all you can eat menu. I wouldn't normally go in for these 'buffet' style Chinese places, but this one was a surprise. Instead of being laid out on hot plates, the buffet was freshly cooked to order. We ordered mixed starter and crispy duck to start and we were very impressed! The starters were well cooked and fresh, especially the pork ribs which were succulent and juicy and fell off the bone - not dry and chewy like you normally get in Chinese restaurants! The spring rolls were crisp and crunchy and not at all greasy! The duck also was not too dry and very very tasty. For the mains we ordered Kung po chicken, mixed stir fry veg and Singapore noodles. Everything was delicious!! The vegetables in particular we're really tasty, served fresh and crunchy with an amazing black bean sauce. The service was also brilliant - this is obviously a family run restaurant and the couple serving were fantastic. The man who greeted us when we came in was extremely friendly and welcoming, insisting that we take our time and only order when we were ready for the next course. He didn't try to encourage us to order more than we need like you would usually find, but rather made sure that we didn't over order with his relaxed and friendly approach. We would definitely return to this restaurant, and now we know that they deliver for takeaway we will definitely be using them more often!!

OK, so we're not in Chinatown, still less at the top of the Shard, but if you choose carefully you'll have decent Chinese food at a price that won't make your eyes water. Crispy duck is always good, as are the squid and the scallops, and a vegan friend swears by their fried tofu and vegetables. There's even a Louis Latour Chablis on the wine list at a reasonable (for a restaurant) 25 quid. The manager is smart, funny and incredibly friendly: no Gerrard Street surliness here. The last time we were at the Beijing, the place was almost empty, but there was a constant stream of take-out customers; the locals obviously rate the product.

Overall, this is a middle-of-the-road Chinese restaurant, 'cheep and cheerful' if you will. It is not overly authentic, but still manages to be rather tasty. I did find a few of the dishes to be a bit greasy, but still palatable. The service is very friendly and it doesn't seem to get overly busy here. BIG kudos to this restaurant for offering meat substitute options (Chick-veg) on their menu. In a town with a disproportionate number of chain Italian restaurants and pubs it is welcome to have some alternatives, even if they don't compare with authentic and high-end Chinese cuisine. Definitely worth a try for an informal night out.
