Went here yesterday. Ok for one drink but more a locals pub and I wasn't a local

Nice pub, friendly staff and locals.

A lovely place, the staff all make you feel so welcome, like a VIP. It’s a great place to go out for a drink, to work at lunchtime, to go out in the evening. They also have pool tables. What makes this place special is the staff, they’re so lovely!

Great place nice atmosphere and you can watch premier League. I hope in the future more selection of real local ales !!!

What a change! The people in charge of this place have lifted every service standard from the last time I came here. Good beers at competitive prices served by friendly polite staff, clean toilets and a very comfortable atmosphere.

The place was very cold, the glasses we were served had lipstick and froth stains on them. The landlord was very insulting when we pointed this out and told us to leave in not very nice words. Disgraceful place

Nice relaxed little bar. Child friendly although that's not really relevant to me. Lovely little bar in the town of Hoyland. Staff very friendly and very welcoming, open log fire place. Would visit again if I am ever in the area again although there is not many pubs here to be honest.

as stated descuidado necesita una reforma seria, un personal amable, pero quizás a agradable ya que tienes que esperar porque el personal charlar con otros clientes , la comida es básico pero es lo suficientemente bueno, esto podría ser un pub de calidad con la atención al detalle y attension ,

visited today , underdone chips , really overcooked steak , fish out of a packet , hot tho , draughty , baseball cap clientele , poor location , expensive for such poor food , staff ok tho ,

Good food friendly staff, good pint, good atmosphere

Beggar & Gentleman is a lovely pub and cosy.. Staff and customers are polite and respectful to others. I came in with my father one day for a homemade sunday roast and the food was excellent including the service i really enjoyed my time here. The pub is very clean and well looked after and looks inviting from the outside.

My order was placed on Sunday 11th january 2015, for a delivery to our workplace. the order was 2 toad in the holes. a bagutte, a chip butty, and scampi and chips desert was a treacle sponge. toad in the hole couldnt complain about it was a large yorkshire pudding with 3 sausages peas, carrots and mash very nice except for the microwavable yorkshire puddings. (in my opinion if you live in yorkshire puddings should never be microwaved) Chip butty was just thrown together all the breadcake was ripped from being buttered, the chips were over cooked and tasted like old chip fat. Scampi and chips this was disgusting just thrown on a polystyrene tray with stale chips hard veg no tartare sauce and very dry scampi was way over cooked and hardly any scampi inside it as it had been cooked for way too long. baguette was dry and had way too much pickle on as there was hardly any cheese. Treacle sponge was cold and tasteless with lumpy custard. we also ordered salad and sauces none of which we recieved. not a very nice meal at all especially when you look at the menu and it all looks so good and tasty. we have to work most weekends and were just looking for a nice sunday lunch but i dont think any of this company will be ordering from here EVER again

i meant to leave a review from when we visited here in June but I've been a bit pre-occupied with things that aren't needed here so without further ado: i came here with my partner and daughter for breakfast at the beginning of June and i gotta say hand on heart this was one of the best (if not best) big breakfasts I've ever had whilst eating out! would definitely recommend eating here to anyone, wont be disappointed :)

I often go for my Sunday lunch at the Beggar & Gentleman. It is very good value for money and food is always fresh and well-cooked. Cakes and scones are home-made and there are two lovely fires burning in traditional surroundings. Children are accomadated too: bouncy castle; fun days; etc. My little brother loves it. Ultimately, it is a good old-fashioned 'boozer' with good food and a decent pint!

I went to this pub for a spot of brunch with my wife and all was well till I went to spend a penny but a gang of undesirable young men pushed me mid wee and it went all over my trousers I promptly reported this to the landlord and he said he used to be a police constable and would deal with it at once but he went into the loo and walked out with the men that pushed me giggling and joking with them, I went at once to tell him who the man who pushed me was and he claimed his regulars would not do a thing like that on his premises, I left the pub right away vowing never to return

Attended at the Beggar on March 23rd for a spot of lunch with the family. I was served by Alex a very pleasant young man who was working with an older lady. The pub was quite busy so we ended up waiting around 20minutes for our dinner but not to worry as the wait was well worth it. We was sat next to the open log fire which felt great and cozy! I have traditional Lasagne, my Son enjoyed the Steak & Guinness offer and the wife enjoyed a nice piece of homemade pie which was Meat & Potato. We was well looked after. The bouncy castle was up at the back for the younger kids although the back yard was a little disorganised the Manager who I think was called Tom assured me that they were preparing the Yard for Spring and opened the Bouncy Castle up due to many requests. Will certainly be coming here again. The food is definately worth a try but the drinks are a little pricey. £3.60 for guinness but the taste was great. Was nice to see some real ales on offer too.

There's no way I would take my family here for a meal. Some awful people drink here, blatant drug use and appalling language.

This must be the worst place you could take a family, customers stood around the bar swearing, funny goings off in the toilets, lads in and out of them doing things that are not legal, saw it with my own eyes. Soon left with my family, would never go near this place again!

the beggar & gentleman is well known in hoyland for its good food with a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all the family. they have all different artists and bands on and cant do enough to make you feel welcome. they also do a meals delivery service which is brilliant. please go down to the good old beggar. wherea warm welcome is waiting, you will not be dissapointed.even a warm by the fire and a coffee is brill.

I went into the pub on a Sunday afternoon with a few friends, enjoyed a few drinks served by the friendly staff, will definatley come back again. Excellent witty banter.

The portion sizes are great, the food tates brilliant - all home cooked inc proper chips. The staff are really friendly - prices good - really family/children friendly. A lovely wooden-beamed pub with two beautiful real roaring log fires. Finished off a late lunch with some of the best coffees I've ever had.

The Barnsley Big'un Breakfast is excellent at £5.95. The Sunday Roasts are a right trat and reasonably prices. Never dissapointed with the service or quality of food.

A friendly welcome when you visit the Beggar ! The food is freshly prepared & always good. If you want a proper Yorkshire pub you've found it !Traditional Sunday lunch is top class and they even deliver if you telephone & order (marvellous idea)All in all a very good value for money menu with excellent service & that extra special touch. All the staff are excellent ~ I'm pleased to be able to call them friends :-)

The Beggar and Gentleman is a brilliant place to take your family for a wonderful meal for a brilliant price. Also if you are ill or you just cant cook or cant be bothered to cook, they deliver meals too your door, very well packaged. The Beggar and Gentleman is also a good place to have a good friday night out with various drinks at a great value. The staff are amazing. They will do anything to help you, even if it means them going out of their way to help you. There Beggar and Gentleman is a great place to go and i would personally recommend this restaurant to anyone. :)

Had lunch with friends and family very recently. Arrived early ahead of the lunch time crowd. Service was very good - very pleasant and attentive. Orders were taken quickly and the food arrived quickly. Serving sizes were just perfect. Ingredients were fresh. Definitely worth the visit.
