Nice in here, went when it was early for a colleague's leaving drink, shot some pool, drinks were good and priced well.

Avoid at all costs if you’re a Evertonian, went there for the 1st time today and they had LFC games on a loop on all the teles. This along with Boxpark is a place to avoid

Often go here with coworkers after work. We are often served by Corey who always serves with a smile and is super attentive to our orders. Would defintely reccomend here.

We came early on Sunday afternoon, the place was almost empty. Considering we have an 18 month old, we sat at the emptiest part. The kid was just walking around our table back and forth, but the rude waitress with huge lip fillers kept on comming and japping to remove the child as it "tends to get busy", despite the fact the kid wasn't borhering any other customers or making any mess. We've told her that if anyone should come, we'll make sure the toddler won't be bugging them. She came about 3 more times regardless, until we finally left. Horrible and rude staff. It's probably something wrong with this particular waitress as we go out quite a lot and we never had any problems. Rest of the staff were polite. Certainly won't be ever coming back.

Love the vibes and space. Went at around 5pm had a good time! Toilets were clean too.

Food is quite tasty. Junk but well prepared. £7 for fries just ridiculous. Pints were all £6.90, even basic lagers in plastic cups, possibly due to match night. Bit of a rip off. Atmos pretty good. The low point was a friend being refused service for asking for Erdingers in a glass (before they were poured). My wife went up 30 seconds later and got the Erdingers in the proper glass too. Just so poor. No respect for the customer whatsoever.

We only popped in for a pint very spacious pub we both had a pint of Erdinger weiss bier which was chilled to perfection and very drinkable even though weis bier isn't my thing

Avoid at all costs. Food is average, very little atmosphere. But the staff have a very big attitude problem. We went on a mid week evening and we were the only people in there at the time. The staff were rude and threatening and we had noticed that we were being watched and scowled at from the get go. One female member who seemed to look like the manager was serving us whilst her mouth was full of food, spitting as she spoke when not otherwise scowling. She waited for us to buy another round of drinks and a game of pool before immediately ordering us to leave, taking away our purchased food and drinks; in addition to jeopardising our pool games with no prior warning. Toilets were filthy also (don’t want to know what the state of the kitchen is in). Don’t waste your time or money.

I visited this pub a few days ago with a friend & lost my wallet after a few drinks - received my wallet in the post today with a message from Ruth at Beer Engine! Extremely grateful to them for their kindness. On top of this, it’s a brilliant pub with a great atmosphere - open late, good selection of drinks and a good place for a game of pool. Would highly recommend if you’re looking for somewhere to go in Liverpool!

Great spacious bar, pool tables and plenty of televisions for the sport. We enjoyed the pizzas 🍕 and the sharing platter.

There were one waiter and one waitress here who were absolutely stupid. My friend and I were standing at the bar watching the Champions League final, there were no seats so we had to stand. We bought three drinks but when we finished, two waiters came and rushed us to leave, they said if you didn't buy a drink you can't stand here, my friend and I and even the people around us explained that we had bought three drinks, they still asked us to buy more, they said you have to keep buying to stand here and rushed us to leave, absolutely racist.👎👎👎

Vile staff on the door and inside. Made to feel completely unwelcome. Member of staff (not that this was clear as he was not in any kind of uniform or smartwear) confronted us over where we were sat then forced us to leave despite us being completely polite and happy to move. They all clearly have a superiority complex and enjoy ridiculing customers from our experience and judging by others on here. Would definitely not recommend!!

If you're looking for a place in Liverpool after 4am this is the place to go for a chill pint and some great atmosphere. Good pool tables and good food served late too.

Terrible customer service. I used a slot machine in there on friday night and they said they can't pay me the £10 i won. The manager told me her would contact me to sort out a bank transfer but never. Poor customer service and a lack of general care!

Great place for drinks and a game of pool while watching the match

Looking for some Latr night food, was recommended this place by a few people... Done what it says on the tin, we opted for loaded fries and pizza with a couple of shorts to wash it down, would visit again.. Not cheap but not overly priced aswell.

The boss and managers were very rude and aggressive towards me Would have liked to have stayed longer but felt too uncomfortable

We ordered four meals. Only one other couple eating. It took over 45 minutes for all the food to arrive. The pizza took the longest and was burnt underneath. We were sat so we could see the kitchen in Liverpool and watch as food was sat on the counter under lights drying out whist half of it was prepared. Hot dog was also late coming out. No gloves on “chef” whist handling food. Very disappointed. I never leave food as this is rude however this is a first. See the photo. But I’ll never go back to see if this review changes anything.

The food here is horrible and the staff are rude. The food is a health and safety hazard. We ordered chips and pizzas, pretty easy things to make but apparently not. The chips had so much salt in them that we nearly threw up. The pizzas arrived 30 minutes after the chips and the waiter admitted that the pizzas were so late because the chef had burnt the first round. We then immediately checked the pizzas to see that they were completely black on the bottom. We sent them back and when we received the second round of pizzas we checked again to discover the base was mostly black again. We were so hungry at this point that we ate around the burnt slices but after a while couldn’t stomach it. We sent the pizzas back again and asked for a refund which the manager refused aggressively. After a back and forth, the manager’s colleague joined in and they proceeded to shout at me… I asked whether she thought it was acceptable for a meal to be served with only half of it being edible, she claimed that it wasn’t burnt even though i had brought the pizza over for her to look at and it was clearly black at the bottom. (see the picture below.) She admitted that she served the first round of pizzas knowing they were burnt but still insisted this round wasn’t. Her colleague then said that we were ‘wasting dough’. The refund was still refused as the manager said the owner doesn’t give out refunds ever. The manger offered us a free drink for the pizza instead but at that point we felt belittled and uncomfortable staying. Would avoid eating here at all costs. Not an enjoyable experience in the slightest.

Cool place but very disappointed by the lack of any alcohol free or low alcoholic options. There's plenty out there now, wouldve been nice to at least have 1 to drink rather than diet coke.

We went here to watch a football game, the only seat available was right next to a huge speaker which was extremely loud and well over 100 decibels (which is illegal and can cause irreversible ear damage), we politely asked a member of staff to turn it down, they just responded ‘no’ and walked away.

Nice sports bar to hangout with friends for a game of footy⚽️.There is a 50% discount on all food items on weekdays(Mon-Thur) from 12pm-6pm.The food is really amazing.Tried their double cheeseburger,salt and pepper chicken wings and fries.The portion size is large and absolutely filling especially the fries.

Walked in last evening after being to a gig up the road..the place was very VERY quiet for a Saturday night. 4 of us walked up to the bar which was staffed BY TWO guys. They seemed to both be serving 1 other customer and completely ignored us... we stood there for about 3 or 4 minutes and still nobody even acknowledged we were even there... so we walked out... completely unacceptable and very unprofessional. I'd kind of understand it if it was busy but there was only one other customer at the bar for heavens sake!! We went down the road and gave our money to a different bar. I hope the owner of this place reads this and realises why his takings weren't perhaps as good as they could have been.

I’m going to be fair first of all and say I had a really great time at this place initially. Spent a lot of money along with a couple of my mates. But the staff were terrible, especially the manager(if I remember correctly, her name was Lou).” They mixed up my order; and when I tried to politely explain the mix up , the bar lady tried to blame it on me. Then the manager came- she was super aggressive/combative and did not make any effort to diffuse the situation. I was absolutely appalled at her behavior and had to leave the place. Overall great place, terrible staff and even worse manager- she should not be trusted to run a place like this based on my encounter with her.

Went to watch the Everton game today. Nice relaxed atmosphere. Ordered chicken burger and chips. Food was fab and hot, largest portion of perfect crispy gorgeous fries. Staff friendly and accommodating. This place is also spotlessly clean. 🙂

Absolutely terrible bar. The door staff were unbelievably rude and unprofessional. Only word I can think to describe them as is bullies. Bar staff extremely slow, didn’t seem to know what day it was. Management even worse, stood round on their phones in under armour T-shirts.. honestly it’s ran by kids. Be better off saving your money and going elsewhere. Mixed race doorman on the front was the worst, about 5’4, absolutely terrible attitude and seemed coked up (very agitated and his mood seemed to keep changing by the minutes). God awful don’t waste your time

Stopped in to catch a game while we were in the area, good selection of drinks but the food is completely inedible. Everything seemed to be coated in a thick layer of salt, avoid eating here at all costs!

Me and my friends went here during a late night out since it’s open til 6am, bouncer refused our entry because some of us were wearing shorts (it’s summer?). When one of us tried reasoning with him he demanded £20 to let us enter, then got aggressive when we obviously declined. To enforce a stupid rule is one thing, but demanding a bribe? Completely unacceptable behaviour from security.

No trouble inside nor bad vibes from angry drunkards, security seemed laid back and lax, did not try the pizza etc but smelt good and served till late. Myself and several others came after work looking for a well earned drink and a wind down on a Saturday night. Staff where attentive but not friendly or seemingly happy to be there. Loved the decor and the music accomadated all genres. 4 starts until I Try the food and service is welcoming but will return again mainly for the late hours opening and convenience.

This bar is in an UNSAFE area for American tourists! While leaving, a bunch of street urchins started screaming George Floyd at us, while trying to set my daughter's hair on fire with a lighter! When we told the "Security Guards" they laughed and did nothing. Cleary, this place wants nothing to do with Americans.

The open kitchen is next to the toilets.... THE OPEN KITCHEN IS NEXT THE TOILETS!

Very expensive, but nice atmosphere. Security are great normally, but staff behind bar are terrible and horribly tip dependent, who is on shift.

Cocktails and pool, couldn't ask for a beter establishment! The cocktail (4 different types were bought) were some of the best we'd ever tasted. Really great value for money 🍸🍹

Cool place and staying open so late is handy

I was there on a Tuesday evening, clean and serene environment with a professional bartender. The serving was smooth, fast, and the meal tastes great, and good on my pocket. There are 2 Pool boards to play with, and very spacious to have a dance if you want to. There are about 10 huge TVs if there's a game you'd like to watch, so there's no need to hustle for seat, since you can watch the game from anyway. It's a very good place to chill alone, or with friends.

Rude bar maids who snarled us like to we were rude, food was terrible. Second time trying it and it was even worse then the first time. The hot dog taste like the worst vegan alternative as in sage and onion, which is mad considering more nice vegan hot dogs are yummy, paid loads more for salt and pepper chips compared to normal and they were so salty I was forced to drink but the only extra other than the salt poisoning was some raw onion and some literal pepper chunks. Come for a end of the night drinks but that’s as good as it gets.

Been this place a few times in the past and never had an issue, the vibe in there has always been okay and the drinks were always fairly priced. It had been a while though and I wasn't expecting the appalling treatment I got. Last night 27/04/2023 (putting in the date in the hopes that management will catch on who I'm on about) one of the door staff showed themselves up to be a total tool. While we did manage to get in, thanks to the other bouncer, a man with a beard, being fairly reasonable. I know people who work as bouncers, and this one idiot was not doing his job. Part of being on the door is ensuring an establishment remains safe and the atmosphere is nice. This waste of a human being used anything he could to ridicule people coming in, in attempts to impress some girl (I'm assuming bar staff) that he was with. I tried to make clear to him that someone's going to react and it's not his job to act the way he was, but, unsurprisingly, he just ridiculed me more and went so far as to follow me and friend inside to make the bar staff were well aware of the slight confrontation. The bar staff didn't act appropriately at all and proceeded to laugh along with him as if I had acted rudely, when I was quite the opposite about the whole thing. I'm sure he believed that, because people are drunk, they don't remember the way he acts but it left a bitter taste in our mouths the entire time we were in there. I won't be coming here again and I genuinely hope people are put off from coming here because it doesn't deserve any of its clientele if this is the way the staff treat people. I'm not the kind of person who would ever usually ask this to management but for the love of god, fire that doorman, he's a liability.

Came in for a beer and a pizza. We got served mouldy garlic bread. When addressing the server she said its normal char from the tin and got us a new one, the same happened again, green and black mould all over our cheesy garlic bread. I went to the till and got shouted and abused at by the bartender who still claimed it was char from the tin. Despite very reluctantly giving me a refund for my 2 disgusting mouldy cheesy garlic breads and disgusting vile attitude of the female bar tender we left feeling incredibly sick by the lack of human indecency we were shown. A dog would have been treated better

Salt and pepper chicken was big chungus

Ordered salt and pepper chicken and chips and it came literally as a bowl of plain chicken strips and plain fried smothered in rock salt and a couple of slimey onions, pepper, and mushrooms dumped on top. That cost £9.50… could have feasted like a king on tesco meal deals for that.

Cocktails were terrible and more slush than alcohol. The barmaid made so much and left half in the jug, therefore was like a strawberry slush.... food was edible....50% dizzy before 6pm helped. Nice venue tbf but expensive drinks.

Stopped doing late night / early morning food, far better places to drink

The Beer Engine is a superb beer bar I drop into from time to time ,it's a bar that I always have a good time in and so it proved on our latest visit. I love the look of this bar ,a cool looking serving bar dominates the main room,great wall art ,and industrial style decorative theme with some interesting features such as vintage motorcycles and cars to be seen ,there's big screens to enjoy the sport and lots of seating options both inside and outside looking out onto the busy and bustling Hardman Street. We had a study of their beer range ,quite good actually ,we both opted to have schooners of Wychwood Brewery Hobgoblin gold,these ale's were served in tip top condition ,we chilled out ,planned out the day ahead while sipping our ale's. This is a great ale ,well balanced and consistent from the first sip till the last sup ,served in perfect condition as I this bar it's such a delicious ale indeed. We really enjoyed our ale's in here before we moved on and as on every other visit to here we had a great time. Beer Engine is easy to locate along Hardman Street. Opening hours are; Monday to Sunday,midday till 6am. Well worth checking out if you're in the area.

The Beer Engine is a brilliant pub that offer a superb range of beers and a really good food menu and is located in a superb area of the city centre.This is a superb pub thats housed in a building that was home to one of the best student bars in Liverpool. The interior of this pub is superb with many interesting fixtures and features from bikes to old sport's cars.This excellent pub has a very modern look and feel with lots of good seating options throughout the whole pubs interior. There are many TV screens throughout the whole pubs interior and pool tables and its a superb pub to watch live sport.They have extended opening hours is this superb pub as it open until 06.00 O'Clock and over the weekend the kitchen has meal's until 05.00 O'Clock. This was our first visit to here this year and we were one of the first in here.On our visit we had a pint of cask ale from Wynchwood Brewery called Hobgoblin Ruby a fantastic cask ale which where perfectly served and price wise on a par with other pubs around this area of the city centre.This is a brilliant modern pub in a fantastic area and is easy to find from Sugnall street bus stop its only a minutes walk.(This is my second review of the Beer Engine). Rude staff. Went to watch the match and staff acted like they weren’t expecting any football fans to show up. I understand that it can be stressful as I work in hospitality myself but I made a mistake by putting my drink on the pool table and got shouted at and told I’d been told multiple times to not do that when I’d only just arrived rather than just asked to move my drink which I would have happily done. My friend was pushed out of the way by another member of staff rather than being asked to move out of the way, and when we were stood just in-front of the stairs by other football fans (not blocking the way - we made sure) we were told that we’re not allowed to drink on the stairs. My friend defended herself and said that we weren’t on the stairs, but the man continued to be rude and shout at my friend before leaving to collect glasses. Won’t be returning.

Prejudiced security can stretch to say they discriminate against specific groups of people. No respect for the respectful customers while allowing abusive loud Scouse customers on the premises. If you don't want to risk getting treated like that you aren't a human being then not a good idea of going there.

I had a great time with my friends. The food is really tasty and they have it until late, you can play pool and relax, the coctails very tasty, the music is not so loud that will hurt your ears and the staff is very friendly and welcoming

Beer engine is unrecognizable from its predecessor “bumper “. I found the staff to be very engaging, polite and the food was lovely and very reasonable for town. It’s a real classic bar, good beer, good food and very well designed. Believe me, previously it was a sh1t hole, totally amazing transformation. Just read a previous review about food and cocktails not being available at gone 4am, I’m not being funny but it’s nearly breakfast at that time. My wife and I went in normal hours and not drunk and funny enough everyone was just lovely. Highly recommend this venue

The staff is unprofessional. The security guys are rude. The night manager was a joke, couldn't take responsibility. Noone seems to enjoy working in this pub and customer service is nowhere to be seen.

I hate to be the person to put a bad review in but I came to have a nice family meal this morning and the news I received from staff turned it from a good experience to a truly awful one all I wanted was a nice meal after a celebrating my daughters graduation but to be told by staff there was no food available to then further be told there was no cocktails available after advertisement on the Facebook page that the food would be till 4:45am and when arriving at 4:05am to be told the food was unavailable due to issues with the tills which this issue could have been addressed and resolved in a working manner quick and effective and then the further ruined experiences with cocktails because we were celebrating something positive for it to be ruined by a thing like this although staff were positive the communication from staff to customers was not satisfactory Thank you for taking the time to read this my fellow community

With the name of this place you'd expect plenty of beers to choose from, sadly not. Despite cocktails being on the menu I wasn't able to have one because it was "too busy" there was only me and my partner at the waiting to be served.

A very good and well priced pub! Went in on my birthday and Scarlet (a new bartender) was an absolute delight!!

Awful rude staff, Was told cocktails would be a while but they would bring them over if we sat down which was fine, we waited between 15 and 20 minutes till one of the 2 waitresses behind the bar came and said they’d been waiting on the bar if we went to get them. They said they didn’t have enough time to bring them over. They did however have enough time to go and chat to people at another table for ages. One of the drinks was a pink gin fizz with lemonade in, the syrup on the lemonade had gone and the drink tasted like soda water so we took it back to the bar, the girl behind the bar stuck her straw in my drink, tried it then walked off to change the lemonade. She came back, poured my drink again and then insisted I paid for the drink again, I had to pay £8 for a drink which the bartender had not only drank out of herself but also agreed was not the correct drink I asked for. Overall, awful rude staff, poor expensive drinks and would not recommend.

Beer Engine has two pool tables, £10 deposit. £1 per play. The venue is open late most nights and serves food late which makes it an attractive scran spot if nearby takeaways don't appeal.
