Bedford South (a421) Brewers Fayre in Bedford

We booked a table for 1.30 but no tables available after our travel over. Never heard anything like it before. Never again!

Myself and my other half have just been for dinner this evening. We've been here many times but tonight I felt I had to write a review. The food (a mixed grill and the smothered chicken) were absolutely delicious 😋 We asked the waitress, Jenna if they had a new chef and she said that they had an apprentice cooking mains tonight - BIG shout out to Ollie- the food was excellent. Both Jenna and Ollie are a credit to the company.

Had a brilliant meal here. Staff very attentive. Food was excellent and came out promptly would definately recommend

Awful awful awful worst place I've ever been, staff slow slow slow..waited in doorway for over 20mins ,rude and unwelcoming,,bought carvery tickets to then get in the queue and none left - asked for our money back you have to wait 7 days for it to go back onto my card..dirty place,,staff miserable,,toilets disgusting really is the worst place I've ever been

Lovely place to get a family dinner they can acomerdate most family sizes and they bring all the food out at once the weekends do get busy to best to book in advanced but staff are super friendly and it's nice to see the same staff over and over just a testament to management, I would highly recommend this place if you on a long journey as it's only a 2 minute detour off the a421

Awful restaurant. Staff were playing pool during our visit and not doing much else. Feel bad for Amy who works there as the manager was very vocal about her performance in front of us. Food was abysmal. Undercooked and stale.

We were visiting family and called for something to eat. We all enjoyed our food. . The staff were friendly and helpful. We would certainly recommend.

We stayed in the hotel next door so visited the restaurant for breakfast and dinner. Both times were equally as good! We are a family of 6 so at breakfast all of the children ate for free which was a massive bonus. The evening meal was lovely and the service we received was great. If we are in the area again then we would definitely return here.

My husband and I had dinner here and couldn’t fault anything. We were served immediately at the bar and sat down to decide what to eat after being advised everything on the menu was available. We chose different dishes and both were absolutely delicious. We were told it was cooked by Dom and Rhys in the kitchen and it came very promptly. Presentation, quantity and quality was excellent and we had fab service by a lovely young man called Jake. We wouldn’t hesitate to visit again.

Very poor.... I stay at many Premier Inns and their attached restaurants for work, but this one was a new low. I tend to stay away from these restaurants for evening meals as they are usually disappointing and pricey.... but the breakfast is my normal morning go to. This Brewers in particular was understaffed, barely any breakfast items available and uncleared tables everywhere. It was a mess. Staff member that was on was very unprofessional and wandering around wearing earphones instead of paying attention to what's going on... Overall a great location, and spot on Premier Inn, but the "Pub Restaurant" is a no from me!

Arrived at 10.28 to have a breakfast that is served until 11.00 but got service refused because they weren't serving breakfast anymore. Maybe policies need to be updated and/or made clearer. Will not be returning privately or for business.

Kiara and aleecer were really helpful, drink selection was brilliant. They had a little stock issue with food but everything is back now!! Definitely be back

It is what it is, self serve breakfast that is as you'd expect

Breakfast is dismal, Firstly no pastries or pancakes, which while disappointing I can live with. Then the bread/crumpets run out, had to walk around the whole restaurant to find knives, no brown sauce, no milk in coffee machine. Attitude of staff is almost as if they don't want customers. Every interaction I've heard and had with them, they acted like it was the customers fault for expecting the food they have paid full price for to be available. (Not sure why they offer continental if over half of that option is gone other than cereal). Had to wait ages to be seated and when they did decide to seat us and another customer, seemed upset we had come at all. All in all, wish I'd stayed at home (and the staff probably do too)

I can't express enough how disappointed I was that Brewers Fayre took our money at 10.15am for the unlimited breakfast (which stops serving at 10.30am) for them to run out of eggs, bacon and beans at 10.20am, then to be told at 10.25am that they wouldn't be bringing out anymore food as the breakfast stops at 10.30!! Appalling! Sort it out, Brewers Fayre. You have an obligation to your paid patrons, serving only half breakfast when you've taken full payment. You should be ashamed. Full refund given, but we won't be back.

If you are vegan or vegetarian don't bother. I had a "gourmet" vegan burger. Looked like something from a kebab shop at 2 am. Albino bread roll with half a cheese slice. Coleslaw that looked baby poo.

Looks like it's closing. Limited menu but I think this was due to a stock issue. Staff were great and friendly and good came quickly and hot.

Large party pre booked with pre booked food , we were only informed in arrival that someone the food was unavailable although this seemed to be an ongoing issue and similar to an excuse used another time we had visited. No real atmosphere and food was mediocre to say the least. Also had 3 lots of profiteroles served to us with cream that had gone off. These were replaced with no issue but not the best Xmas lunch out. Won't be going again as felt it was really poor all round.

Went for the buffet breakfast, we come her at least a month for their breakfasts. would recommend!! Unlimited cooked breakfast with Cerials toast and pastries included. You can't go wrong

A bizarre experience..We went next door to the Farmers. ! Had two good roast dinners too. At BFayre..we were asked if we were From the Hotel(next door) or had we booked. Neither. Then we were told that they couldn't serve us as they had not had a good delivery that day.. Save yourself the trouble and go to the Farmers (,I think it was called that, or similar.. it's just north of BF but shares the same carpark almost) They had food, it was an eating factory but it knew how to do it well and all the dishes were hot, freshly cooked , and tasty. Go there instead!

Absolutely horrendous service this evening. We didn’t even get to order, we just left! Rude as can be servers, no manners or care in the world. You couldn’t pay me to come back! We went across the road to the Maypole - spend your money there folks!

Excellent clean place and food was nice

I booked breakfast for 7 people 6 weeks ago and with less than 24hrs notice I have just got a call cancelling my booking because due to the supplier there isn't enough food for everyone. What an absolute joke. This shouldnt happen to a chain like Brewers Fayre, I suspect this may not be the whole truth and actually a booking for 2 adults, 1 child and technically 4 'free children' wasn't beneficial to the business, even though they boast about this offer. Highly recommend NOT booking here as you will be left disappointed at short notice for a family birthday breakfast.

I would like to give a big shout out for how well we were looked after for our Christmas get together on Wednesday evening

Had dinner here for the last 3 nights. The biggest impression were 2 staff members Jenna and Siobhan. So eager to make you feel welcome and always so friendly. The chef prepared the best sirloin steak I have had in ages. Give a raise to the chef!!!!

The food was superb and very tasty our server Siobhan was good at best and the food made by chef Sahill was terrific

Booked a table for 6 at 6:30. Unfortunately 4 couldn’t make it as car had broken down on way. We explained that there would just be 2 of us. Straight after ordering our meal the rest of our party who were broken down called to ask if we could pick them up as they had 2 children with them. Thankfully the person behind the bar gratefully refunded our money as nothing had been cooked so far. My husband asked what time they stopped serving as once we had picked the others up we would be back. We were told 9pm for last food orders. I then arrived at around 8:25 with another adult plus 2 children. Firstly we were ignored whilst standing at the “please wait to be seated” sign. I then approached someone to be told they’d stopped serving. I explained that we were in just a couple of hours ago and were told by staff that the last orders were 9pm for food. I was then told “don’t know who told you that but they shouldn’t have” she then proceeded to say “it might say 9pm on the website also but it’s not right” oddly enough you can book a table online for 9pm in the restaurant for food!!! So they happily turned 2 children away without being fed after a stressful journey which the staff were informed about. Despite what their website says they clearly just make it up as they go along. My advice, go to the Maypole farm across the road. Really lovely people in there, very accommodating and even came over to our table before the food orders closed to see if we wanted to order meals for the other 2 people we were waiting on. Very different attitudes on how to serve customers, brewers fayre needs to take some lessons. We have been since told by Premier inn that they get a lot of complaints about the Brewers fayre even people with meal vouchers getting turned away so I’d just avoid.

A nice relaxing work team breakfast. Help yourself to the nice selection of hot & cold breakfast food. Very nice.

After waiting over an hour for our food with to kids under 2 we asked how long our food would be to be told they didn’t have our order we got a full refund and went McDonald’s never again place was tip no staff no food if only I could give 0 stars

On our way home from elsewhere, we decided to stop off here for our Sunday lunch. Admittedly we hadn't booked but thought we would see if they could fit two of us in. We were greeted by a member of staff who asked if we'd booked, which we hadn't, she explained that they were booked up and wouldn't have space until about 2pm (the time we went in was around 12.20pm). There were a lot of empty tables but we understood they were waiting for people to arrive. Once back in the car, I had the idea of looking on their website to see if I could book a table and sure enough, there was room for me to book a table for two for 12.45pm, so, back in we went. Asked if we'd booked, I gave my name, we were shown to a table, I'm still puzzled now as to why we were turned away the first time, during the whole time we were there, there were many empty tables. It did seem as though they were short staffed. When we ordered, we opted for the two course Festive Menu, choosing a starter and main. Our mains, we chose the Festive Turkey, which on the menu said 'with all the trimmings'. Our starters came, we ate, we waited and waited and waited, after 45 minutes no sign of our main courses. Eventually I went to find a member of staff to let them know we were still waiting for our main. She came back a few minutes later and told us we needed to get it from the carvery, so basically, our 'Festive Turkey' was just the regular Sunday roast, no trimmings. When we ordered, nobody told us we were to get the main course from the carvery, nor were we given a ticket for getting it as is the case with the carvery. I'm assuming this was implemented for today given that it was a busy Sunday which I do understand, however it would have been nice if we'd been informed of this when ordering. Take-away tip, if you haven't booked in advance and are turned away as a walk-in, go onto their website and quickly book a table as we did. Secondly, if it's a busy Sunday and you opt for the Festive Turkey, ask when you order if this is brought out to you or if you need to get it yourselves, it will save you an awful lot of time. I don't know how long we'd have been sitting there if I hadn't gone and asked.

Tired building, food is basic and bland, for the price of rather have go to a Macdonald's.

Next door was booked so we came here. Cavery is 3 meats and you get more than next door. Veg was great. Refil drinks sorted.

Sofia was incredible however the main manager, 'ethan' was absolutely awful and gave us out if date food and flat beers, Sofia was the only one that saved it and got a 6 star overall. The main manager said you should just eat the out if date crisps because he would and then said he was too busy to talk.. then we told him how Sofia was great at customer service.. he told us " well I taught her... " and then states that its not possible her customer service is better because he taught her.. HE IS AWFUL.... Sofia is incredible.....

Awful. Toilets were full out filth, floor full of paper and a tap that never switched off. Customer service was poor and general politeness lacking with most staff. The food was ok, but a festive menu with items that weren’t available yet. Atmosphere was dead and some internal spaces looked very tired. I have always wondered why this was the quiet cousin of Maypole Farm (across the car park) and today I learnt why. I wouldn’t waste your time or money coming here. Far better places nearby. The best thing about this place is there is plenty of parking and you won’t struggle to get a table!!

We called for lunch today, in our party is a person with a walnut allergy, who was given a check sheet,which was very helpful. We then placed our order, the waitress came over and informed us the next table over had ordered a meal with peanuts in it. We informed the waitress the allergy was with walnuts and thanked her. When the meal came out for our guest we were told it had been made free off contamination and also brought out freshly sterilised utensils. In this we felt the staff had made an proper effort in making sure the guests meal was contamination free. Well done to all.

A terribly organised and badly run affair which I didn’t even get to sample the food in. Early on a Sunday evening there was only a handful of tables occupied but we gave up waiting at the entrance to be seated, and resorted to wandering around to find a member of staff to allocate a table. Despite them laying out cutlery around the restaurant, the table itself was dirty and sticky with the menus in desperate need of replacement. We ended up moving tables, but the cleanliness situation didn’t get any better. Overhearing the apologies for long waits as food was served to other tables didn’t instil any more confidence in the service improving, but after waiting a further fifteen minutes with no attention from the staff we gave up, calling a nearby member over. Shockingly a ‘debate’ then ensued amongst the staff as to whether we’d been told it was bar service, we were told to order at the bar, then they all walked off. Clearly a complete lack of organisation and management so we decided to give up and leave. Terrible attitudes, terrible service and terrible cleanliness - won’t be giving it another go and certainly can’t recommend.

Went for breakfast today which was alright but ruined by the attitude of the staff. I walked into at 10:40 and was immediately greeted with attitude. Told breakfast was nearly finished. Staff member was literally shaking with rage. Do you want my business or not?

Great place to meet your friends and have a catch up moments

Table service unsatisfactory, although staff were pleasant which is important. Gammon served with only HALF a fried egg and the custard was cold on a warm pie.

The staff have really improved this restaurant over the past year or so. The service and food are excellent. All it needs is broccoli.

Food was tasty and staff behind the bar taking orders were really lovely. It was out first time going to a brewers Fayre and nobody told us we had to order at the bar. My biggest grievance which ruined the whole experience was despite there being ample empty seats in a pretty much empty restaurant they sat one guy right next to us who wouldn't stop coughing without even a hand over his mouth.

Menu is smaller than similar size chain restaurants. A bonus for us though others may see it as limited. I saw this as a positive as food could be prepared and served more easily. In the interest of making an informed choice if want things such as steak, this isn’t the place. Limited selection in that regard but other options are still good value. Chicken burger was good and meaty, coleslaw packed with veg and starters/kids options good value too. Refillable soft drinks including water as well as fizzys a winner for children and drivers alike. Staff friendly and welcoming, clean and well maintained. Drawbacks - Entrance is on opposite side of restaurant to the car park. You do need to walk 180 degrees around the building to get in. Bear this in mind if you need wheel chair or pram/pushchair access. It’s all level and wide enough but poorly positioned. Toilets are a bit of a trek up creaking stairs, with only disabled radar key operated on the ground floor but next to the staircase. Reminiscent of another well known chain! Down to Bedford Borough Council, not the venue but access difficult from main roads. Can be confusing as there’s a bus lane sign warning of fines on the road in so it’s unclear if you can actually use that road at first. You can as it goes into a residential area and you turn into the car park within 150 metres.

The place was very unclean with pieces of paper and food on floor ,most probably due to lack of staff.

Revolting. Went for breakfast this morning after a stay locally. Every single table apart from one had dirty plates and cups on it. Nothing had been cleared all morning. The serving area had food everywhere, spilt liquids. We had to ask for knives and forks, two bags, coffee sachets. These were handed over begrudgingly. The coffee machine was broken but there was no sign to tell us this. Next to the tea and coffee was a disgusting bin with no lid on full of rubbish, that had not been cleaned in weeks - this is a breach of the food safety standards ( this is my area of work), the machines and hot water boiler were dirty as was the walls. The whole area had flies. There were two staff, a supervisor and a young waitress who couldn’t have cared less. The waitress was rude and uninterested stating ‘ I can’t be arsed today’ and stood behind the server area eating sausages out of the pan and looking at her phone. Meanwhile the dirty tables remained…… I will be contacting head office with concerns.

This one is a very mixed bag, if you are only there having breakfast it's not so bad, they do have staffing issues so if your not hotel guest you may be disappointed. When going in for breakfast it does always make you wonder about the cleaning else where in the building when there are glasses on the tables outside from the night before. This place on an evening had a strange vibe, maybe the staff are just done in after a long shift but it isn't particularly welcoming, one night was warmer outside than in due to the air con. I ate here once having the mixed grill was the usual pub portion size, steak wasn't tough that's a good point! I stood at an empty bar, full of glasses whilst the bar staff tapped away on a till only after a couple of minutes to be told it is cash only. Speaking to locals I heard this is often a problem! Take cash if want service. Not much they can do about this but the entrance seems like it's down the side rather than on the elevation facing the hotel or the carpark maybe that adds to the strange vibe?!

Usual Brewers Fayre, cheap & cheerful. Food was good, but all our dinners had been left to stand, and were served lukewarm, eatable, but spoilt the experience a bit.

Food was awful and overpriced. Cold rubbery eggs, tasteless bacon.

Five of us came for dinner as we were staying at the Premier Inn next door. Food very average (chicken a little bit pink & pizza not what we ordered) service OK but just felt super impersonal and a bit basic. Emily was just lovely - very helpful & friendly. Just wished the rest of the experience lived up to her.

Had breakfast here on two days. First day - greeted at the door, after a very long wait, by a girl who gave the impression of not really wanting to be there. Coffee machine broken, so only instant coffee. Food average. Second day - better staff, but even the instant coffee had run out, only decaf available. Food still only average. Tried to have dinner here too, but we were turned away at the door because we hadn’t booked, even though the place was half dead at 7pm on a Saturday. One of the young waiters thought he could find us a table, but his female colleague blatantly told him that he wasn’t allowed to do that! So we went across the carpark to Maypole Farm instead, where we were welcomed very warmly.

People waiting for over an hour for food. Tables were asking for a refund and leaving. Diabolical! Queue to order was 4 people but we gave up waiting after 20 minutes, picked up our stuff and left. Didn't even order drinks. This was our second time at this brewers fayre, and our last. First time in October wasn't much better. This branch must have a problem. If I could give it a - 1 review i would. My opinion, avoid this one, just keep driving.

Had a great time brewers fayre you need to give the members of staff who work today can't remember names but there where only 3 in total they all deserve a pay rise or bonus they deserve it. Food come out quick food was cook brilliantly

Had breakfast there today. Unfortunately the servery wasn't in operation as they weren't expecting it to be busy. Well it was quite busy & the young girl on duty who was on her own was rushed off her feet! Taking payment, showing to tables, taking orders, bringing out food & wiping tables. She was such a polite, friendly girl & kept a smile on her face all the time. I did tell her how well she'd done & have emailed Head office. Credit where it is due!!!!

Very accommodating service given by Alfie when he realises my mother was unable to walk very far, he put us on a table close to everything. Food was very nice and the restaurant was very clean and airy.

The food was nice but the portions were very small for the price. I was disappointed the pie was hiding the mash potato, only to be told that was a normal portion. My 5 year old nieces dinner was bigger than an adult meal. I am not surprised a lot of brewers fayre restaurant's are closing if they are all like this one and don't give value for money. We went to this one because unfortunately the Hatfield brewers fayre had closed down which did give value for money and the staff bent over backwards to make sure everything was perfect, unlike Bedford south. Won't be going there again. Also we was not happy with the new menu as there wasn't such a variety as the old menu.

Good breakfast. Young lady who served us was amazing. On her own at a really busy breakfast time, 9 till 10.30, and coped really well.

Not a place to come for coffee only. Expensive all you can drink! Hassled to move at 11.30 for lunch guests. Obviously only welcomes diners.

The food, drinks, and services were incredible! Jenna, our waiter, was very fast to clear our table, take our order and the chef Sahil was incredible with the food and desert! Definitely suggest coming here!

Really poor experience!! All week!! I booked food here all week after booking at premier inn. It's a pretty soleless place. After being greeted with a disgusting entrance way littered with cigarette buts and litter strewn around I usually had a lengthy wait fir a table even though the restraunt was pretty empty. In the evenings the three staff were hanging around the bar area discussing social media posts. The chairs and tables were in a poor state and the ceiling had large brown staining where there's obviously been a water leak. Breakfast - really poor contintal choice. Bread stale and curling over, no bananas the fruit bowl was empty most days. I heared a customer ask "Is the England being shown here tomorrow?" Staff - " Don't know" as they walked passed, didn't find out or get back to the customer The food was a reasnable quality unfortunately the venue wasn't upto scratch neither week the staff. It screems of poor management and disinterest. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.

Vile in every way. Unwelcoming waitress, place was disgusting at 9.50am, food and rubbish all over the floor. So dirty and don’t even get me started on the toilets. Breakfast was grim too, would have been better off going to McDonald’s 🤣 Never again, very poor standards compared to the Hatfield one.

The toilets have no toilet rolls. There is rubbish everywhere in front of the entrance door.

Some of us had carvery and some off main menu. All meals were good in quality and portion size and everyone enjoyed their meals. The carvery was £11.50 and had 3 generous different meats.

2 meals for £11.50 is a fantastic offer, good size plates & very hot n tasty food 😋 lovely friendly servers but sadly the restaurant is let down by lack of attention to detail like cleanliness of walls in halls toilet cubicles tatty pictures & state of disabled facilities hence 4* not 5 shame really. Easy parking & access for disabled

Invited to a 74th birthday meal, food was ok ish, asked fir medium steak, arrived well over done. Went to get drinks at 9.50, was told bar was shut, what Friday night shut at 9.50, bloody joke, thankyou for ruining a 74th birthday.

Decided to give this place a go due to 40% off meals over £25. Wish we hadn't, very basic food, didn't look or taste particularly appetizing. When asked if food was ok, I said the coleslaw was so awful I could not eat it and asked for this to be passed onto the chef. I asked what the response was, I was told some customers like and some don't it's down to personal preference. Not the response I wanted from the cook, my personal preference was it tasted awful, in fact the worst coleslaw I have ever tasted so chefs attitude was a nonsense. We have decided we will never visit again, a first and a last today, so ne warned.

Refused entry at 20:00 place was empty and they close at 22:30. Was told not accepting walk in. When booked on online 5 mins later they turn us away saying they not accepting no one. Terrible service!!!

The location is nice, bit of a way out but still good. Jenna and Aleecer made an effort to get my vegan order right so I appreciate the service. Food was okay, not mind blowing considering the price.

I didn't expect Asda frozen cauliflower cheese , roast potatoes dry and horrible . Parsnips a bit of imagination would be nice . No green veg at all. , meat was ok . Overall not worth twelve quid for a half fresh dinner . You expect everything to be freshly cooked . Usually Brewers Fayres ok .

Myself and my boss went in for breakfast this morning, all the cooked breakfast was like it had been sitting there for hours Cold hash browns, hard eggs, mushrooms were tasteless and luke warm Coffee machine was out of majority of coffee As we walked in the young lady in an abrupt manner said Reception is over here, not overly friendly I wish I would have gone to McDonald’s as not worth £10.99 each, I wouldn’t have wanted a cold seconds No chef to be seen checking the food I can say I won’t be back, very disappointed and it looked so nice from outside Lots of tables full of dirty plates

The pub itself is a beautiful location and I have used this pub when I visit Bedford quarterly a year. However visiting this pub today was very disappointing. Very disappointed with the approach to serve customers when entering, and poor performance of how the business works. When we decided to order, the chap behind the bar was great and had no issues with how he handled the customers. While we waited the cooking time was correct, however she only brought two meals out of five, she then disappeared and served another table then served behind the bar without serving the rest of the dishes for us. We had to ask another guy to ask why we only had two serves of dishes and no one was bringing out the other dishes at the same time. We also asked for sauces but she didn't serve that so the guy also did this. When our dinner turned up, unfortunately I was saddened to say the dinner was a little warm to cold and really was tired of complaining and just ate. We also had disabled person with us and sadly the toilet was out of order which can caused problems. Apart from the two guys we got served by it was fantastic I just had to mark down big time due to lack of simple one woman failure services and lack of time between 1st serve to 2nd serve and service collecting dirty plates nor checking if everything ok etc. Such shame There is an outside seating area and there is a children's playground

This place has really gone downhill. There was only one staff member who was taking orders, cleaning tables. And serving food. The restaurant was a mess. They should have atheist 3 or 4 staff members to help customers and help run the business correctly. The food was horrible eggs and has browns over done. Bacon under done and a tiny portion of beans. The continental counter was bare. And whatever they had as in toast of pancakes was stale. There was juice spilt all over the floor and continental bar. And the coffee machine was out of order. Please boycott this place and go to local family run businesses instead of this mockery.

Usual great experience that I always receive when I visit any brewers fayre

We were made welcome when we arrived at the Brewers Fayre by Aleecer, she took us to our table and explained what we do and then we ordered our food and she was so polite and made us welcome. We got our meals made by Dom and Betts they were lovely and a good price thank you for our lovely experience on our visit...look forward to going again

The food was nice. The bottomless drink option is great. But only when the drinks machines work properly. On this occasion, it kept giving less than half measures. Another thing that was really poor was the outside dining area. Discarded rubbish everywhere Not an inviting sight on arrival.

Food was lovely, however took so long to order. One member of staff taking orders and making drinks. I managed to go upstairs and use the bathroom and yet the queue hadn't moved at all by the time I came back.

It’s OK for casual dining. The food isn’t bad. Service is OK. It has outdoor dining area and is roomy. There is plenty of free parking and is in an easily accessible location.

We had an unpleasant mother's day sitting apart from the rest of our family. My grandchildren were placed on the other end of the restaurant. They didn't even try to accommodate us, very poor service. Also the food was constantly running out taking 5 mins to replenish things like eggs.
