We went to the Emporium, which is very impressive, for afternoon tea. The large restaurant is comfortable and the service excellent. The afternoon tea was flawed. the sandwiches were all white bread and sliced too thickly. the cakes looked appetising and we took some home. The scone was enormous, more suitable for a transport cafe. Wont go back for more!

Stunning place, Luxury Garden Centre if ever there was one. Plants indoor & outdoor, beautiful gifts, clothes etc. The restaurant is Great (No Bookings allowed, walk-ins only.) However, you get a buzzer to let you know when a table is free, so you can wander around the place, as it’s almost always full. No wonder, the food is delicious & plenty of it. Good choices too (I’m vegetarian) No room for cake sadly, however, on your way out, you go through the food hall/market. Fresh fruit & veg, with cakes & treats to take away. This place is well worth it. Staff are so friendly & a real credit to them. Well done Beckworth, well done ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon, if you time it right and the rest of the surrounding villages haven’t made the same choice. We got lucky with our visit and were seated straight away, whilst I don’t think how busy a place is, is their problem, they do need to work on a possible booking system. Food and refreshments were lovely as always, venue itself is clean & tidy and staff are friendly. Prices are a little steep for what you get, but worth it as an occasional treat.

We're mostly just interested in the farm shop, I could blow hundreds in there with ease, the produce they have on offer is good and they stock unusual things which are fun to try. If you visit, I recommend getting a sausage roll or two from the deli counter, they're something like £4 a pop, but they're easily worth it.

Clean tables, well mannered staff and good service. Food wasn’t so great. We had the Beef Bourguingnon which was incredibly salty and the French Beans greatly overcooked. The chef did oblige in swapping out the mash for new potatoes. One of us had the chicken burger without the bun and felt the chicken was bland so all in all not great food but great service. Worth knowing that this is no longer a private business but part of the Blue Diamond group and has been, in my opinion, over extended and spoiled. Even the shop stock is no longer special or different.

Didn't even make it into the restaurant as we were told it would be a 75 min wait so gave up and went home. When money has already been spent on a voucher (afternoon tea for 3) it's really disappointing that there's no way of booking in advance. Total waste of time and an hours drive for nothing. The response I got from staff was "come midweek" ..well obviously we would if we could.

It's a little hard to review as it's a destination of three quite different parts, so ive broken it down then averaged across the three. 1. Food Hall - This has a good selection of good quality independent food and drink. Can't really fault it. 5* 2. Garden Centre - as a garden centre its a bit meh, it's not the best but it's okay-ish. 2+* 3. Cafe/Restaurant - Quite a frustrating place, if you get there when its not too busy and when they have stocked up its pretty decent, the food is okay, a solid 4* I'd say. Often there's a queue for 45+ minutes just to get a table (no idea why, its decent for a garden centre but we aren't talking a fine Italian restaurant here). For me running out of menu items is their biggest issue and its not related to arriving after busy hours, you can go pre-rush on a mid-week morning, and they've still run out of your first three options! If you have a somewhat limited diet (i.e. don't eat meat, etc) then those three options are quite probably your only options, you are perilously close to being forced to drop into the dreaded cant-cook-wont-cook jacket potato menu section. If I see a queue know I just jump in my car and nip over the road to Manvell Tea Room who never disappoint. So, could be decent if the stock was managed better, but it isn't so a frustrating 2*

The place it self is interesting. We had a nice lunch and everyone is very friendly. Now for the two stars , we bought three slices of Victoria sponge cake £10 to take home from the fresh cake stall, so not cheap. It was the worst dryest cake I have ever had. Stale dry and the supposed butter cream tasted of the worst synthetic goo . Never again. It’s a shame because it’s a nice place.

I used to love going there. Food was good and a nice environment to eat. However, I believe it's now in the hands of a group. The food was poor and it wasn't reflected in the over inflated prices. I ordered a panini which looked like it had been sat on. I ventured around the outdoor garden area and the condition of the plants was bad. Pots and plants lying in the walkways and no obvious attention given to the health of the plants. The second star was only given because the staff are pleasant.

Disappointing lunch at Beckworth with my friend today. (31st December). Turkey dinner was not available, so I had the cheese and ham quiche. The ham was inedible, tough, grey and with an unpleasant taste. I had to pick it out. The potatoes were also quite unpleasant tasting. The quiche was dry and there was only a tiny amount of dressing on the salad. The lady who served us was nothing short of miserable, bordering on rude. She ignored us initially, taking orders from the neighbouring table who were seated after us. When we asked to order, she turned and just stared at us. We gave the order. My friend asked for no salad dressing. I saw she had written ‘no salad’ on her order pad, so pointed this out. The look she gave me could make hell freeze over. Still she said nothing. After the meal, we asked for the bill, again to be greeted with silence. The bill never came, so we went to the desk to ask to pay. I told the person seating people how unpleasant and unhelpful the server had been and she apologised. This is not my usual experience of Beckworth and is extremely disappointing. I won’t be going back in a hurry. With hindsight, I wish I hadn’t have paid.

Must be one of the best garden centres for many a mile, always a pleasure and doesn’t disappoint. It has a large food hall with loads of wonderful bits and pieces , a showpiece very large glasshouse restaurant which serves a superb range of things to eat and drink from an extensive menu- difficult to choose but it’s all very yummy. Has a large outdoor garden section, inside is a sizeable range of home bits, gifts and toiletries etc , one thing that is more minimalist is indoor plants- this is something they are not hot on . Considering it’s out of the way , it seems very popular, has a following which is easy to see why. Along with a large free car park makes for a lovely trip out.

What a disappointment the winter garden cafe was today. We only wanted coffee and cake so made the decision to go here rather than the restaurant, big mistake. We asked for a plate for our cake but was informed that as it was only a "take away"" we needed to use a cardboard box and our coffee was to be served in paper cups. They have tables and chairs so don't understand that statement!! We wished we'd waited at the main restaurant and received cups and plates. It felt as if this was just a money making exercise. Some people were having afternoon tea, which again was served in cardboard boxes, although the tea pot etc appeared to be pottery. We personally will never use that facility again, and would advise others not to use it either. Would rather wait for the restaurant. Beckworth used to be one of our favourite places but not sure that it will be in future.

I have been a regular visitor to Beckworth for many years and I have always found it fabulous. However the last few times I have found it no where near as good. The last 2 times there have been many empty tables yet a member of staff has been stood there with the buzzer and a list to add your name and both times a 45 minute wait! Today I arrived at 10.55am yet they couldn’t accommodate myself and a friend for 45 minutes even though like I said there were many empty tables. I asked why and apparently there was a lead time in the kitchen of 45 minutes . I explained this never used to be the case. The woman said yes it has I’ve been here 10 years! In fact it never was like this in the past, it used to be much more efficient with all the tables filled. You can’t book either. In my opinion the buzzer is to get customers trailing around the shop hoping they will spend money. Not great for the elderly, disabled or people with babies and children. Beckworth is not the place it used to be and there’s plenty of amazing places I would visit before here in the future. Apart from the abrupt woman dishing out buzzers the staff were lovely.

Xmas Cream Tea - VERY disappointed! Some basics that you'd expect are just not there. You get a boxed set of sandwich fingers (which were drying on edges), miniature sponge and rock hard scone. All on a picnic table (which x4 boxes don't fit on) alongside a small teapot for 2 people to share (literally 1 cup each) - oh and milk is apparently self serve as after waiting we went to ask and were told - "there's milk on the side, I'll get you a jug". Honestly - you'd be better get the £8 take away cream tea and not getting robbed with the £20.95 Xmas Cream Tea.

We were immediately put off by the fact that we couldn't take the pupster in with us and had to leave her in the car when other garden centres etc welcome dogs. Because of this we only had a quick look around where we had initially gone for lunch too. The food in the food court looked really good, although very expensive. We took a look at the restaurant but on heading that way we were met by a gentleman coming out who said "I wouldn't bother, 45 minutes to wait for food and when it came it was only luke warm" not the best on the spot review. We don't mind waiting for food as long as it's good when it arrives, but hearing people (and there were more than one) saying that really put us off going back another time. The ornaments and gifty things were pretty, but again, the seemed a bit on the expensive side. We didn't go outside because of the rain, but we weren't really looking for any plants. Not sure we'll go back again as it all seems a bit out of our price range. Vera & Jim.

My family and I have been visiting Emporium for the past 3 years and have enjoyed the variety and quality of products and services they have to offer. Unfortunately, off lately the service at the restaurant is below usual standard. On many occasion the hot drinks we have ordered were served lukewarm or even cold. The excuses we had is the lack of staff, so that the drinks can’t be delivered to the tables in time before the are no longer hot. On our last visit, as a form of apology the restaurant manageress offered us 20% staff discount of the cold coffee which I found very insulting and off putting. I sincerely hope that they will improve the efficiency of service in the restaurant, as off now I have no desire to go back.

This is when things slowed down, ordered our hot drinks and afternoon tea. Coffees arrived the young waitress was very busy on her entering till, our hot drinks getting cold. Still we waited another 45 minutes for our food!!evidently the staff are either to busy taking other orders from the tables then entering on a computer till, a bit inefficient time wise, not a great service food had better value. So disappointing. I have loved coming here for years but the standard of the food in the restaurant has dropped significantly. I would say many parts of dishes now bought in preprepared else where. Missing that fresh element of quality ingredients. I do understand costs have to rise, happy to pay the new prices for the previous quality but fear I will be taking my business else where. Changes on menu also disappointing, Sunday Roasts, hardly a traditional roast on the list, used to offer a small plate, roast pork etc. Chicken Caesar Salad, chicken dry, dressing not a Caesar dressing and throwing on pre cut Parmesan not good enough at that price. Bacon obviously pre cooked else where, guessing eggs too. At least they had the correct lettuce. Coleslaw looked dolloped out of bought box, I loved the kitchen prepped stuff they did before. As for the shop, still interstesting selection but too much on the shop floor, the clothes range just hideous. So surprised to find my self dissatisfied with Beckworth. 🥲

Gone down in quality since being took over, too much crammed into the halls can't shop or look properly. Had 4 afternoon teas ,price £20.00 each !! Not worth money ,2 small bowls of crisps ,between 4, 2 slices bread cut into 4 strips , 4 cakes size of petit four and scone.(each) I had veggie option cakes were dry ,no veggie butter or cream offered for scone. Supposed to be unlimited filter coffee , where you would think either someone comes around offering it or better still put pots on table , no you had to get 1 of the servers and they then had to order it , took quite a while appreciate they were busy but... Been before take over few times and enjoyed, not so this time , probably better to pop down road to Aldi get all the ingredients yourself and do your own afternoon tea , would definitely work out a lot cheaper 😥

On arrival it was a bright, warm open area with comfortable furnishings. We were welcomed and seated quickly. Table was clean and had fully stocked condiments. My wife ordered the eggs benedicts. I ordered the full breakfast. Food came quickly and was hot. All parts of the breakfast tasted freshly cooked. Sausages were cooked well with a lovely peppered after taste. Eggs runny, but just the right amount. Bacon had a great smoked flavour. There was also two hash browns, beans, mushrooms and side order of two toast. I particularly liked the salted butter. Honestly I struggled to finish the meal. My wife said her meal was cooked perfectly. I could'nt fault it. Excellent meal. My friends were there before me and went to get a table. My friends wife is disabled and decided to walk but struggled. They arrived in plenty of time to be seated and order from the breakfast menu. They were asked to sit and wait despite 80% of the tables being empty. We were seated after the breakfast menu was taken off, forcing us to order from the lunchtime menu. We were a little put out as we couldn't see anywhere of time slots for arriving/ordering breakfast. Of course, had it been past 11am, we knew breakfast would be finished.

This is a most incredible place with a garden centre, massive gift shop with unusual and good quality merchandise, an incredible food section and a wonderful restaurant, not forgetting the large car park. The restaurant does get busy around lunch time but they do have a pager system whereby you can go shopping and it will beep to let you know your table is available, so waiting shouldn't be a big issue. I have been here quite often since my first visit earlier this year. Today the weather was so horribly cold, wet and miserable my husband and I went for coffee & cake. Our waitress was the lovely Carys who remembered us from last time which surprised us as they get so many people pass through but the really surprising thing was that I realised they must have Angels in their kitchen! I had the Honey cake and I believe it was the most wonderful cake I have ever tasted (which is something from someone who has travelled extensively with cake always on the 'Oooh! Must try' list). I am now forever spoiled because I don't believe anything will ever stand up to it's perfection. Something tells me I will be soon back for my Christmas shopping (several times) which will entail more coffee & cake.

Visited for afternoon tea. So so disappointing. Beckworths afternoon tea used to be excellent. Previously there were quality sandwich fillings (salmon, brie etc) and quality cakes. Now they have increased the price and changed the presentation but decreased the quality. fillings whilst some traditional are extremely low budget (e.g. egg mayo, thin cucumber, cheese). The previous presentation was quite unique to beckworths (slate with sandwiches in middle, cakes down the side and crisps on top) but now they’ve conformed to what everyone else does (tiered stands). Essentially what they’ve done is tried to make it look ‘posher’ but actually delivering a basic and budget afternoon tea. Previously approx £25 for 2 and now it’s £20 pp. the cakes / desserts used to be really lovely quality. I couldn’t quite believe one of them was literally a meringue with squirty cream and a blackberry on top. Sad to see a once quality establishment has now changed their business model to basically ripping people off.

First off, it’s a great garden centre/farm shop with lots of different varieties of plants, gifts, sweet & savoury food options. However, the afternoon tea experience wasn’t what we expected. The food was lovely, but we were there for about 2 - 2 1/2 hours. We got seated and no one came over for a good 20 minutes. We ordered the afternoon tea for two & 2 smoothies. Another 45 mins passed before we received our drinks, and then again about another 10 before the afternoon tea came over. The smoothies were no where to be seen. I asked a waiter who said he will check but nothing. Another 15-20 mins or so we asked again to be told they weren’t even on the order so we decided to leave them. When we were finished we asked for a box (so we could take the remainder home) & the bill. The boxes came but no bill. I had to ask another waitress for it again. I understand it is busy however, there just didn’t seem to be any urgency to order peoples foods and it seemed a bit slack on service. Food was great and I would return in hope of better/quicker service.

Was a plesent breakfast, staff were plesent, but didn't seem the same high quality produce and service as we had previously experienced, especially for what it cost.. As for the Fruit and Veg department, mouldy fruit, soft courgettes, and Brussels that should be in the bin.. Brought some Mighty Mini walkie talkie set for my nephew, which don't work.. will be returning them.. C'mon Beckworth, I used to rave about this place..

Had a fab time, went with a group of 4, it was quite busy but the food was really nice and really good value for money. The staff were lovely and very attentive. Would highly recommend even on a busy Friday evening. We will definitely be going back.

Really good pub for Sunday lunch, food is delicious and you get a good amount. By far one of the best roasts locally. The staff are so friendly and lovely, great with the children too. Would definitely recommend!
