We stopped here for dinner on our way to Cornwall & and it was perfect. Delicious 'home cooked' food. Really tasty and thoughtfully done. The broad beans in my trout dish had been popped our of their thick outer skins. A nice detail, most places don't bother to do. Delicious.

Had some delicious food here just not enough to fill up on, wouldn't suggest going here if you're hungry, however the micro portion was tasty. Lunch here today. We have visited before and always enjoy our meals. Today was no exception except to my palate my cod was slightly undercooked. Friendly service throughput. Two small final observations: 1. We both felt it was rather cold in the part of the restaurant where we ate. 2. I would much rather pay for restaurant meals with cash in that, in my opinion, it is easier for older folk to keep a better track on their spending by using cash.

A place that I couldn’t wait to leave! It all started the day before my stay when a lady called me asking what time I would be arriving the following evening as they were closed. As I was in the area for business I couldn’t be sure so agreed I’d call her the following when I was on my way. However she called again the following afternoon asking the same question while I was trying to work. When I arrived I was told that they only do check ins until 6pm when the pub is closed and this would have been on my confirmation (it wasn’t). My room was pointed out to me but knowing I would not have any staff on site, I asked her to come to the room with me to check the heating was on. She refused and assured me the heating was on and would remain on all night. When I got to my room it quickly became clear the heating was not working but luckily she was still on site and when I called she told me someone was coming to fix it. Within an hour it was working but the large room was freezing and never really warmed up until the morning. The bathroom radiator never worked and the draught was coming into the room under the door. For this pub to charge the sort of prices they do, they need to spend a bit of money upgrading their property. It’s cold and scruffy and I spent a miserable night here. The two stars are for the lovely breakfast hamper and the hospitality tray - both superb!

Stevie was very lovely. I would say she was the highlight, but admittedly the food and the atmosphere were at least as good. We had chorizo arancini to tie us over, curried parsnip soup, crispy squid starters, Chateaubriand mains and parfait and rhubarb Panna cotta as desserts. Apparently they didn't expect us to be able to finish because the portions were indeed decent size, but lucky my friend and I are experienced eaters and it was finger licking amazing.

We went for a lunch on a grey, dismal December day. The food was terrific and the service was excellent. We were made to feel very welcomed and the Team were friendly and efficient. The Scotch Egg had a crispy outer, very tasty sausage meat and the egg was cooked just right. The haddock had white, firm flakes together with hot and crispy chips. The Risotto was full of mushrooms and tasted delicious. The Stout cake was similar to a sticky toffee pudding and finished the meal off perfectly. Starter, main course and pudding using a Travel Zoo voucher for an incredible £39 per couple! Food was excellent, especially the scotch egg. Given the price I was surprised to see a rump steak with peppercorn sauce on the menu! Only issue for me was a charitable donation and service charge automatically added to the bill without discussion. Very happy to pay for both given our experience but object, like most people do, when extras are added without agreement. It takes away from a memorable experience. Please re consider this policy?

Went for lunch. Called and booked ahead and they were very accommodating (seat by the fire as we were walking there) Food was served promptly and was delicious. Well priced. Faultless service and the Top Sail was an excellent pint. Will be back! Unfortunately had to amend this review. Went again today and things have changed. Found the entire experience distinctly average. Kids meals are £12. That includes a single scoop of ice cream though so the two chicken goujons, with fries and peas along with a disappointing burger and fries was a bit much. I had the steak. £24 for 6oz and it was a small 6oz steak with 'peppercorn sauce' with no peppercorns and no taste either. The ham egg and chips was good but £100 for two adults and two kids is alot. Mandatory service charge of 10%, apple juice for £4.20 and orange juice and lemonade for £4.80. Not great value and average service. A real shame.

Drove out to the Bearslake Inn as we'd not visited for several years. We were hoping to get a lunchtime bar snack or sandwich but were disappointed. They no longer serve a bar snacks style lunch menu and even more disappointing was the absence of any vegan options. We had ordered two ginger beers and were served hot ones. We also requested some tap water but this never arrived. Perusing the menu with our drinks we realised that we had made an error coming to the Bearslake. We finished our drinks, paid the princely sum of £9.57 for them and left. It may be several years before we contemplate returning, if at all.

Pub is an attractive charming building; Food was very good indeed; wine was excellent and fairly priced and beer was well kept. So why only 4 stars?.......Ambience. A pleasant enough atmosphere with attentive and friendly staff; nonetheless the "bar" area was a little sterile. Rather like a cotswold pub. The reason I believe is it lacks the welcoming, friendly Hubbub of locals chatting at the bar. It is a bar in name only, as there are no bar stools or chairs; only 3 tables all for diners (like us). One can't have a pre meal pint at the bar and beers are served at your table. This time of year with plenty of tourists around it isn't too much of a problem; but it may well be in the winter months. I think it is missing a trick here. Nonetheless we shall certainly be returning for the reasons outlined earlier. The fish n chips were superb, as was the sea bass. Pricing was just about fair for food and very reasonable for the excellent wine. We had a very pleasant evening and enjoyed the best food we've eaten here (we hadn't been since covid times). Thankfully the music was of a gentle kind and played at a sensible volume. All in all a lovely spot for a meal.

Celebrating significant birthdays and a wedding anniversary with special friends who had travelled a long way to be with us, we wanted to be able to enjoy really good food in our own time, and Bearslake Inn did not disappoint. All six guests ate every bit of 3 courses. Service was attentive, friendly and good humoured, and as a designated driver, it was particularly nice to be able to enjoy a zero alcohol G&T. Our evening was everything we hoped it would be - thank you.

Busy car park, with a couple of wheelchair spaces. Entrance is wheelchair accessible with help, door within door. Nice food, good service, and friendly staff.

We have been visiting Dukes monthly for 3 years. The food has always been excellent quality, very generous portions and very friendly staff. However, our latest lunch was very disappointing. The coronation chicken baguette was largely padded out with too many chunks of dried mango and instead of a fresh crunchy baguette there was a soft sub roll. My hubby’s Smokey bbq burger was average at best. The nachos were small and broken and the salad wasn’t the best, smothered with corn. We had to get the servers attention to take our order as no one seemed to notice us. We are quite upset about today’s experience as a visit to Tavistock for us has always meant a fine lunch at Dukes. It seems quality has been watered down but prices have remained high here. Sadly profit has triumphed over quality. We took our dessert elsewhere on this occasion.
