Bear Inn in Solihull

I ate here with two friends on Monday 21st October to celebrate friends birthday. The food and service were excellent as was the lovely 'surprise' birthday cheesecake complete with candle. A special shout out to Lee who was friendly and pleasant with his very welcomed slice of humour. Lee went above and beyond to ensure our stay was a pleasurable one. We will return!

Monday night not familiar with the area but the write up looked good. Very welcoming, food served quickly and very good, gammon especially. Lovely little village with a walk by the church.

Roast beef dinner was a bit disappointing. Roast potatoes didnt seem to be roasted at all, Most likely air fried. Veggies totally under seasoned. Very much below the normal standard of dishes on the normal menu.

Thanks to a Michelle and the team for looking after us for dinner, despite the automatic booking system not working well, and the tills being down.

Don't usually leave reviews but Gareth and The Bear Inn was fantastic. Great food, the service was exceptional and even understood our northern humour. Booked again for later in the week.

We were a group of ten the food was served quickly our server Gareth looked after us and took our banter really well👏. We visit The Bear twice a year whilst working at the NEC and we will continue to do so.

Once fun place due to great staff team and management. Now no atmosphere or customer awareness from anyone. Hence , not returning unless the old staff do, or a new "happy" team. And I'm not alone . Overheard in the bar "this place has gone downhill last couple months" amongst other comments. Shame . Last time I came in August it was such a decent place.

Great place, very interesting. Served by Michelle and Lee who were very attentive and professional. The food was excellent, the restaurant was busy but the service was good.

The wine came very quickly but the water never arrived. We had fish pies. One was ok the other.was very runny. We asked for the dessert menu. Waited 15 minutes and no one came. No apology so we paid the bill and left.

Good food ,plenty of choice with very good service

I had a family meal out last week and never having been before, I was really happy with everything. The food was of good proportion and tasted delicious, the atmosphere was great, but what made it was the lovely Michelle! She was so welcoming and attended to our requests with a professional and friendly manner. We will definitely return.

Can't comment on the food as we left. Arrived in plenty of time for our 7pm reservation. Waited where it said. The waitress walked passed us 5 times and not once did she acknowledge us. But she did seat 2 girls who were behind us...but then again 1 was a staff member. In total we waited 5 minutes with out so much as a word from the waitress. Manners cost nothing. At least say to us that she will be with us soon. But no..totally blanked. The height of rudness for me. I spoke to the barman, told him I had a table booked and to cancel it. I think some of you staff need to be re trained in the ways of the service industry. If I could have rated the service aa zero I would have. All people ask for is a little courtesy and a smile. EDIT. After my review the manager replied and asked me to contact him, which I did, twice. Never heard back from him. Shame as I would have liked to speak to him.

Went tonight14/9. Was totally ignored at the check in point by the waitress. Finally seen in by the barman. Food was good but the service was absolutely woeful. Asked 3 times for an extra glass of wine but it never appeared until we came to paythebill. Had to ask to have it removedfrom the bill as it never arrived. The Bear used to be really good but it's hopelessly understaffed. Won't be returning any time soon.

Came in today was excellent service… all staff are welcoming and engaging. Lovely atmosphere, nice surrounding! Garden is in clean condition! Deffo recommend

Wonderful Sunday roast lunch at the Bear today. Food was superb and our waitress Michelle was lovely.

Came here with a friend they didn’t have a table ready she needed to clean one took a while but we didn’t mind as we ordered a drink while we waited, we were then seated as we was seated all the tables around us were so dirty, we then ordered the roasts that cost £16 were awful meat was tough not pink it was missing mash she then told me mine wasn’t served with mash even tho the menu said served with mash, we asked for gravy it took till we had ate half to get some, the veg portions were awful the roast potatoes were over cooked the Yorkshire was soggy, all in all poor experience service was slow food was absolutely awful and working for a greeneking myself I know the quality and that wasn’t it.

A party of nine as a family celebration. Despite a couple of items on the menu not available everyone really enjoyed the food & the evening. A particular shout out to Isabel who served us magnificently being helpful, efficient & hospitable. Thanks.

Lovely cozy pub with friendly service and delicious food. We come here for Christmas lunch each year and it's organised very well

First time myself and a friend had ever visited this place as we had gone to watch some golf at the belfry and we were staying nearby. We were greeted with friendly and a polite manor and shown to our table. The young lady who was our waitress for the evening came over and was bubbly and polite. She took our order and brought back our food which we couldn’t fault it was lovely. We were very surprised with the good quality of food and such warm welcome which we had received definitely worth a visit if your in the area I know we will be visiting again when we are in the area.

Very friendly staff, the food was great, didn’t have to wait long and it was hot, only criticism would be the furniture is old, dirty and in real need of replacing, photo attached is where we sat and pretty much of the rest of it was similar

Went for a lovely meal to celebrate my partners birthday. The food was absolutely gorgeous and we cleared our plates. The desserts were also delicious and freshly made. We've visited on a few occasions and I can highly recommend the Bear to anyone.

I went to the bear Inn Saturday morning i was on way to wedding the bear Inn was quiet I had coffee with my family whilst waiting for some guests that were late the new team leader Michelle was very welcoming and so was Lorraine, and for that reason will return in future

Good food, only downside was the stickiness of the tables. I'm not sure what's used to clean the tables but even the candle seemed 'glued' to the table. Next time I'll wear long sleeve shirt.

Walked from Hampton in garden to the bear had a Fantastic meal great setting and good service well worth a visit and lovely little old town just across the road loads of history . 😃

It is quiet in the week, the food is great and that's what most people go for, if you're looking for somewhere with good staff decent food, Peroni on tap, and a relaxed atmosphere, loverly jubberly 🤌

I have been to the Bear several times recently and have not found anything to complain about. The food is very good and they sell real ales.

After a visit where we were dissapointed with the food, we were invited back by Kerri the manager to have the meal again but free of charge. She also covered our drinks. On our return Matty and Cameron, the staff waiting on our table were amazing. The food was excellent, service prompt and professional and the environment, as always, stunning. Thankyou to all those who made the return visit happen, and the staff on the day for their excellent service. We'll definately be back.

Visited not too long ago as I was recommended this place by a friend. The experience and food did not disappoint. The burger was lovely and the staff were friendly. The service was also quick! Definitely will be going again.

On the whole a decent pub. I must confess my calamari was a bit chewie but the gammon main was loverly. Quick service must also be complemented.

Lovely place out of the way. We were staying near the NEC and wanted somewhere quiet. This fits us perfectly. Lovely food and happy to make dietary changes. Clean restrooms and good amount of parking. We shall be back.

Had another lovely meal in the chain of Chef &Brewer in Coventry. Our waitress Eloise was so helpful and made our stay very welcoming .

Average at best. This place is just style over substance. Nice area and nice pub from the outside but the food is literally mediocre. I’ve lived in the area for over 20 years and come here every 6 months or so, just hoping it’s improved but it never does. The price of food is not cheap and the quality is less than average. £15 for a chicken burger, the chicken fillet was the tiniest I’ve ever seen, bun was overcooked and dry, and the fries were thrown on the plate with some shrivelled onion rings. The sausage and mash was also poor. The mash on the plate had been cooked hours ago and in one lump. Lime cordial was like weak piddle and the pint of beer was awful. Not sure how we were charged £10 for 2x lime squash and 1x beer??!! I don’t normally leave bad reviews unless warranted, but like I say, I’ve been coming here for years and I’m not sure how they have never improved! If you want a decent meal then don’t bother coming here, unless of course you don’t care, and just want to ‘look the part’ in a very middle class pub. I’d go up the road to the Newlands (with a very different clientele, haha) and actually have a decent meal. Half the price, with big plates of food that are actually freshly cooked and hot from the oven, and with staff who actually care about the dishes they are serving!

Popped into the Bear on Sunday afternoon to enjoy the garden in the sun, great service, large selection of drinks available and everywhere was well looked after with plenty of staff buzzing around! We definitely be back over the sunny season!

Family meal. Fantastic food, great service and all round enjoyable experience

Excellent car parking facilities. Nice outdoor seating area. Good looking building. Fabrics and furnishings grubby and sticky. No traditional ale on tap the day we visited! No tomato juice either!! The food was good when it finally came. They were short staffed and items were forgotten and we had to ask several times for our order. I waited and waited for coffee whilst other members of the party tucked into their sweets. I don't think that we will be returning any time soon. Not a relaxing experience.

We arrived for a booking at 6.30 and we're rapidly shown to a table in the restaurant area around the corner of the bar. We were a party of three adults a teenager and a child celebrating my mother in law's birthday. We were quickly served by a waitress who was initially attentive. We had a three course meal with a mixture of a la carte and specials. The food was excellent. One of the adults was on alcohol free beer, the other two shared a bottle of wine. The first choice (Chablis) was not available. The stars have been dropped for the following reasons: The gents toilets were filthy, I did not take photos as it would be inappropriate in a toilet but the toilets in the two cubicles were both peppered with dried on faeces, they each had empty dirty vases on the top of the cistern. The floor under the urinals was smeared with something white which had been partially mopped but left, the basin also had something brown (fresh) smeared around it. One of the urinals had a large yellow catering bucket under it, containing building waste and some black rubber gloves. Later my wife came back from the ladies with my daughter, one cubicle was out of order and the others had no toilet paper. This was particularly difficult as my daughter had her period and had to make do with tissues and napkins from my wife's handbag. At the end of the meal the wait to place the desert order, then to pay the bill was phenomenal. It was over 1hr30mins from clearing the plates leaving the restaurant, which was becoming challenging with a young child. These are things that can all be resolved: with the existing good standard of food and some basic front of house standards this could be a 5 star review. £169 for 3 adults, 1 teen, 1 child.

Sunday lunch ...... Nice warm day so chose to eat outside .....The food .....both my wife and myself had trio of meat Sunday lunch ....beef ..pork...turkey ...2 problems ..... First because we sat outside the meal cooled quickly but still enjoyable 2nd problem .... Not enough gravy ......apart from that .... Lovely meal ... lovely setting ... Nice pub .... Yes will definitely visit again .

Called here for a pre-flight meal on the way to Birmingham airport. The service was very friendly and efficient and our meals were really delicious and the portions were good. Couldn't fault it. Will definitely use them again when I next fly from Birmingham

Disappointing. Not very busy at lunchtime, but still a long wait for mediocre food. The waitress was working her socks off - just a shame the kitchen didn't seem to be doing the same. We will not be returning.

I like this place. Food is good and the staff were friendly and helpful. I had a hypoglycemic event all of a sudden and the lady who served us was rapid in getting me a suitable drink to get my glucose levels back to normal. After that food was piping hot and delicious. I think the poor lass was rushed off her feet as we only saw her and no one else. We'll go there again for sure, even if it's a little expensive.

Beautiful pub inside and out, unfortunately, the the meat served was cold which being lamb wasn't the best somewhat diminished the experience. The rest of the meal was tasty,

The food tasted lovely but service was lacking. Had to ask for table to be emptied from previous customers even though the pub was nearly empty. Ordered food, starter came after a while, then noone came to collect after we had finished the starter, although the pub was still fairly empty, had to ask where the main was as it had been ages after starter was finished, the lady said sorry it should have come out ages ago, then main appeared like magic. If we hadnt asked it would have been much longer I suspect. The food was really nice. Shame about the long wait though.

Came for breakfast this morning, there was 4 adults and 2 children. I can’t give a higher star review because although the food was tasty all of our meals were lukewarm at best, such a pity. Our waiter was very competent and service was pretty fast just a shame about the temperature of the food.

Plastic found in the burger we ordered. Dinners small and not cooked properly. Lovely atmosphere great staff, kitchen needs to step it up especially for the quality and prices they deliver. Cooked food when we got home.

Popped in for food and a drink. Very friendly bar staff and food was amazing. We had the cod chips and mushy peas. The batter was incredible and the fish was so white and fresh. Beautiful meal thoroughly enjoyed it thankyou x

This public bar the Bear Inn, clean, tidy and will be one I return to, as with the Red lion up the top on the round about. As long as they stay open. I have nothing negative to say, Both places have a good atmosphere and I welcome them opening such long hours. The Uk government has not helped with rising prices and keeping establishments such as these that are helpful in the local community. See you again. Thank you.

Visited yesterday for a celebratory birthday lunch with friends. Warm welcome., nice table not too close to others, food and drinks all very good, friendly service. A really good time was had by all of us.

Lovely cosy pub and staff were friendly, but the roast we had was disappointing. Roast potatoes were anemic looking and completely soft, as was the veg. We decided not to stay for dessert.

We were disappointed with our visit for lunch as we have generally been impressed by other Chef and Brewer pubs. It did not start well as most of our party ordered starters or mains containing prawns but after 15 mins the waitress returned to say there were no prawns so we had to revisit the menu and start from scratch. When the meals did arrive they not great, particularly the cheese souffle and an overcooked vegan burger. Service continued to be slow although the pub was less than a quarter full. Overall not a good experience.

Visited with family for a catch up! Fab experience,great service and staff and food. Highly recommend.

Not sure what happened today.. Sunday Trio of roast not up to usual quality... Food not the hottest... Beef tough, but when asked how the meal was, the beef was replaced straight away.. Deserts were very good.... Service very good.. Just a little below par today.. But we are all entitled to an off day...
