Our Sunday Roasts (6) All of our meat roasts are served with garlic & rosemary duck fat roast potatoes, roasted root vegetables, Yorkshire pudding, sausage meat stuffing, gravy, carrot & swede mash and seasonal greens. Not impressed, potato's 10 pieces- too many- certainly frozen and not cooked in duck fat garlic and rosemary! mash wasn't mashed veg, more like hard lumps of cartot snd swede but we're edible, spring greens the smallest portion ever! no stuffing! However the roast beef was lovely even tho 'NOT PINK' Yorkshire pudding good. Ordered 2 drinks and 2 roasts, bill came with 4 extra drinks! waitress was very rushed and I expect had had a busy day, but at 6.30 in the evening it wasn't that busy. Overall I was not impressed with our meal, didn't bother with a desert. Improvement needed and portions need an overhaul as I'm sure most people would like more veg and not half a plate of potatoes! We did eat it as I wasn't going home hungry and husband helped out with the potatoes 🤣 but he wasn't too impressed either. If we return it won't be a roast, as previously we've had nice meals here.

I went to the Bear with my husband and friends last night. The food was delicious, the staff were really attentive and efficient. I was celebrating my Birthday and was made to feel very special by friends and staff alike. I highly recommend a visit.

Thank you so much, you made my friends 70th birthday special, from the moment we arrived to leaving. Staff so lovely our meals outstanding as normal. Couldn’t recommend you enough. We all had a great evening, definitely recommend for food and atmosphere. Thank you again.

I hate to do this but I have been eating here for over 20 years and always had a good meal. Its pricey, so it's a special occasion place but tonight I had the seabass with scallop and pea risotto, the portion was so small I had eat when I got home, it was very average. Husband had burger and chips but left all his chips because they were so greasy. Sad to say but there much better food places for the price. Didn't bother with the dessert menu, just incase it was as average as the mains.

I dont write reviews, but honestly this was the worst meal we have had in years. We had a Sunday roast. The roast potatoes were aunt Bessie’s. The veggies were from a tin. The meat was boiled. The gravy was bisto. My friend had a steak and his chips weren’t cooked, the pepper sauce was cold and clearly made from frozen and the cut of meat was chewy and tough. The service was very poor. Attitude when asking for anything like a high seat. I am honestly shocked this place is in business, I can’t imagine anyone goes twice. Microwave food.

We were served by alannah&andrew and we had a lovely experince. very friendly and easy to get along with. they made us feel very comfortable and alannah gave the best service weve ever had. drinks were lovely,served by Andrew and over all it was amazing. will definitely be coming again

Eaten here a number of times over the years and the food and service is always excellent. Even fussy teenagers clear there plates!

We went on Sunday to try the roast dinner. Sorry, don't bother. The price you pay, You expect fresh veg. Frozen carrot are disgusting. Frozen roast potatoes weren't cooked properly. Processed meat. I would prefer to elsewhere than go here. The service was poor, they did apologise. We asked for a receipt. We didn't get it. They have done a good job revamping the pub. The kitchen and service are letting it down. A chef should be embarrassed serving the food that was sent out.

Fantastic food we had the lunch menu and went for 3 courses, superb customer service!

Valentines lunch, Husband recovering from spinal fractures, we enjoyed the food. The warm crispy duck on salad (a special) was delicious. Hope to have this again.

Really charming pub, full of character and great for a meal out. Plenty of parking round back. Best pub food i've ever had! Everything was well cooked and well seasoned, with really generous portions. Lovely staff, and the whole place is so CLEAN which sounds silly but it's so nice to go into the loos in a pub and find them spotless. All around lovely place.

We met up for a meal with friends at The Bear in Berkswell. Booked a table on-line a few days back. We were welcomed and shown to our table by staff who were polite and friendly. A good selection of food was on the menu and the prices were very reasonable. As always, the atmosphere in this beautiful ancient public house was superb.

Food always great! Shocking service now sadly! Haven’t been since I wrote this! But new reviews with photos of old menus! Hmm 🤔

A beautiful country pub with great atmosphere and disappointing food. After a long wait due to there being only 1 person behind the bar, we ordered the steak and ale pie. It was pretty tasty, but was mostly pastry and the beef was like jelly. Ok for a beer in the summer, but won't be coming back for food any time soon.

Had a nice lunch, very good service, although they seemed to put everyone in one place in the pub and I would have preferred to be spread about a little more.

Just to say what a great evening we had last night. We went for Burns night & the Burns night menu was an 11/10. Service was brilliant & with the Bear being your quintessential English pub there's not much more to say apart from Thank you

Fantastic and quick service from Ashley and Michelle. Food was delicious with a good range of light and substantial options.

Lovely girls night out. Lots of choice on the menu and we all enjoyed our meals. Service also very good. The dining room was not at all noisy.

Lovely meal in a great atmosphere on Thursday night despite the restaurant being at full capacity, Allana, Harry and Max coped brilliantly. Congratulations to the kitchen the food was well presented and delicious. We'll be back soon.

Was great just waited a long time to get served

Decided to go here for some dinner my mum for some mother and daughter time and couldn't have picked a better place for it. The atmosphere was lovely and calming, a very warm welcome from the staff who's service was on top throughout our whole time there. The drinks and food food were so so tasty and tasted fresh! Me and my mum had such a lovely night and we will be returning again very soon ☺️

Oh it was beautiful we had our boxing day meal there 13 of us , the service was top class lovely friendly staff, nothing was too much for them. The food was amazing it was perfect, price was for a three course meal so not normal prices but you were able to choose two courses or three I would highly recommend.

A spur of the moment decision to visit as we'd been driving in the area. It was fairly quiet and hence got served very quickly. The food was cooked excellently and presented very professionally. The service was prompt and friendly and this is one of the reasons why we are regular visitors to The Bear.

They double booked the room my family use to gather for our Xmas gathering

After many years coming here I'm overwhelmed by the drop in standards over the last couple of months. Slow shoddy service , and seeing other tables complaining about cold food , a totally not bothered dark haired woman virtually shrugging it off as "not her problem" . Nobody behind the bar for five or ten mins at a time to take an order , hence walked out without ordering and visited a far better pub nearby. Never again. The five star reviews are so obviously fake from the same person who works there and her friends. Not very intelligent as she always seems to recommend "gristly meat pie and soggy veg" . How appealing.......

This pub was a great experience thanks to the service of Michelle. As soon as we entered the restaurant we was welcomed by Michelle and treated with kindness and respect. This service helped all of us forfill our needs to the best standard possible with recommendations on what choices we should make especially with food. Michelle needs to be recognised more for helping meet our customer needs and expectations.

Delicious food and service very good.

Had a reservation and when we arrived it took more than 5-min waiting to be seated. Our table was not cleaned properly from the previous customers. It was obvious that the pub was understaffed. It took a long time to be served and we never had the glass of water we asked for. However, the food was reasonably good and competitively priced. I believe the four stars for service are too many but I believe they deserve another chance.

Great day and experience coming to The Bear for dinner with my family means so much when things run perfectly. Orders correct and nice and hot. Service was excellent all very friendly. We all enjoyed our visit and will return.

Food is quite pleasant. Staff well.... younger staff always happy to serve,pleasant and chatty,but those who i assume are management level not so much! The man with a tan is rude and obnoxious at best and the lady is not particularly helpful. We wont be returning .Hospitalitary training is much needed. Everyone is entitled to good service and this lets this eatery down. Beautiful pub tho. Homely and cosy.Good selection of drinks and food choices.What a shame

First of all I would like to say food was brilliant. Second I would like to thank staff: Michelle and Chloe for their wonderful service. I can’t however rate it higher than a three same as atmosphere as two staff members who’s names i don’t know with a maybe irish accent and another gent with fake teeth were seemingly discourteous and unpleasant which put a bit of a damper on what was otherwise a wonderful visit.

A very disappointing experience. We visited as a table of 4 on a Saturday lunchtime. We have been here many times over the years and it's always been good. We found a table easily. I'll list the issues. We ordered food and tea for the table at the bar. We waited 30 minutes even for the tea to arrive. I then went back to the bar to chase it up. I waited for 5 minutes before anyone showed up. They had forgotten our order. They acted like we were the problem. They bought tea fairly quickly but only for 2 not 4. They argued with me that I'd only ordered drinks for 2 people. Some of the food came out 50 minutes after we had ordered it. The server wasn't well presented and she smelt bad. 1 persons food was missing, just soup which which they missed. We asked the server and she looked out out. We had no cutlery provided to eat for anyone. We had to go to the bar to ask. They then couldn't find any..... It's a mess. What should have been a pleasant lunch with family was stressful with long waits, missing orders and staff that didn't seem to care. And it's not cheap! The food was ok and bordering on too cold to eat. We saw at least two other tables return food as it was cold. If they are too busy to provide good food with good service they need to look at their operating model. In a world full of beautiful country pubs we will not be choosing this place in the future.

Went for breakfast and a coffee. Friendly atmosphere, good food and the staff were fantastic!

The staff were really considerate and helpful! We asked to move tables and they were really understanding about it. The food is always consistent in quality and quantity. This is literally the only place I will order Turkey as it is always juicy and so tasty! My dad and husband love the beef rib and have ordered nothing else our last few visits, my mom really enjoyed the beef cheeks. The starters are gorgeous and presented so well, as are the puddings! Honestly just what a brilliant team providing top standards for great value in a homely, welcoming environment.

Service from the young guy and attitude was simply excellent however the middle aged lady was off when we asked for an extra dish for our pudding as we can’t manage a full one. However the food as usual was brilliant. This was after paying for a bottle of wine and four mains with two puddings. £106.00

Great atmosphere, manager Lorraine couldn’t do enough for us all we was a big table and we was all catered for to a high standard. The bear inn is a truly pleasant experience. The breakfast was delicious and everyone’s meals were fantastic and looked great and enjoyed by all. Highly recommend this place to anyone.

Pub is lovely and the staff were nice, friendly and professional. Sadly I didn't enjoy my pie, but my family all ate their dinners and said they were very nice.

We had a lovely spot which was private for our party. The staff did their best, very obliging, but it was a bit it of a bind taking our own drinks up the steep steps.

I have heard good things about the Bear Inn in Berkswell, so I decided to give it a go today for lunch. I ordered from the festive menu as follows.... Starter Wild Prawns on a crumpet with a herb sauce. The Starter was great, I would definitely have this again. Main Course Roast Turkey This was disappointing. The Turkey was OK but the veg reminded me of school canteen veg with slightly more finesse. The carrots and sprouts were soft and soggy as if they had been microwaved. The roast potatoes and parsnips were ok though. Dessert Christmas pudding with Brandy sauce This was good.

Sorry to say poor cold food that the kitchen microwave it and return it to you with more gravy making you think it’s a new meal

Lovely old fashioned pub with separate eating area (we didn't eat !!) Spent a good couple of hours wine tasting 😊 Toilets were upstairs so not sure how disabled friendly ?? But if your looking to waste a couple of hours it's worth a visit

Having read previous recent reviews I was a bit shocked about how a family were treated after a funeral. I have been here with family on many occasions over many years, including my late father. We chose this venue as a place for lunch after scattering his ashes today and my mother was very happy with the meal, service, atmosphere. Nothing was rushed and we were looked after extremely well, with added care. I will continue to support this establishment as I have done for almost 30 years and again today you did us proud. Hopefully return soon in better circumstances.

Beautiful pub, nice pint and lovely atmosphere but the food came cold, then was microwaved returned with some bits of the roast removed and the service was lacking.

We are regulars to the bear as our local and always have a good experience and food. Josh and Michelle are always great and make sure we are well looked after. Always coming back here!

Lee made our visit to the Bear a very good one. He took time to help even when the restaurant was very busy. He made suggestions and seemed to be doing a great deal of service and training up someone at the same time. A lovely friendly man with great ability. Thank you Lee you are a real asset.

Honestly think that the good reviews are fake! As a resident of Berkswell & a regular this place has gone downhill! Awful slow service, miserable staff! Sorry but it’s so sad for our lovely village.

Visited Saturday with my friend.Great breakfast and wonderful hospitality! All of the staff were super friendly; special shout out to Lee!, you really made us laugh! Comfortable, cosy country pub with great food!

We were really disappointed with this visit. We have been to this restaurant multiple times before but this experience was like no other. From the get go we were waiting. We waited to be taken to our table, waiting for drinks, waited for our meal and dessert. We even had to wait to be given spoons to eat our dessert with. The whole experience was not good. What a waste of our money. The food was a disappointment too, we had the festive menu, it’s got to be the worst roast dinner we’ve had. It’s a really shame to see this place go down hill, it used to be fantastic but it’s lost its appeal. There were barely any staff working therefore the service wasn’t up to scratch

I hardly ever complain and after many years in hospitality management I know how hard some people work to look after their customers. We came in today after a funeral, wanting a cosy, comforting family meal. Drinks order and food order taken far too long after sitting down and then both were incorrect. An hour in and still waiting for the correct items, ALL the other tables in the room had the same problem. Duty Manager, young chap with short hair and neck tattoos, cocky and arrogant, had the cheek to angrily tell my wife off when she clapped a plate arriving.(Seriously). Clearly out of his depth and lost his temper, which is bit embarrassing for him when one considers that there was only a handful of tables eating. He was invited by both myself and my father to discuss the matter further but just muttered some sort of insult under his breath. Reminded me of a reprimanded school boy.......Needless to say we walked out and will not be returning!

I am really sorry in advance as I am not one to write a bad review but last night's experience was quite bad. The glasses for our wine weren't clean. When I went to dry them, there was a slight red residue on my napkin. We had steak and ale pie with mash. The mash was stale - clearly microwaved. The staff (FOH and kitchen) I don't think, are invested in the service. Will not be coming back again unless it is taken by new management who pride themselves in hospitality and service. Sorry. Update: I've emailed as requested and haven't received a reply almost a week later. Being seen to do the right thing will never be good enough.

Lovely food if I had to pick on something calamari could of been seasoned very bland also ashame I was asked 5 times was everything OK with the food once is enough .

Rustic country Inn, low beams etc. Friendly service and decent food, we had the Sunday lunch. Traditional roast, veg, roast potatoes, gravy, not much of a Yorkshire pudding person and didn't get the stuffing with roast beef concept, but the food was well cooked.

Had a lovely dining experience tonight at our local Inn. The service and food was amazing. Although a tad cold when we got there, Lee our waiter, immediately sorted that out for us, and turned the heating up. And all evening he looked after us with great service, was very efficient and we had a laugh with him. The food was cooked to perfection. So all in all a fabulous dining experience Many thanks steve

Venue itself looked cosy inside. Staff were friendly but it took over half an hours to just get our orders put through. Food was okay, fish was greasy so I couldn't finish it. Prices were extortionate especially on drinks. I wouldn't rush back here a bit like the service.

As a regular to The Bear I booked for Sunday lunch and I’ve never been so dissatisfied with the service received today. Table booked for 2.45 pm , arrived a little early to be told “your tables not ready” and the waitress walked away.l, without even as much as a “would you like to get a drink while you wait” etc We waited and at 2.50 pm my husband went to see if the table was ready to be told oh sorry I’ve just give it away , sorry. Another waitress intervened and got us a table. The dinner was ok, Turkey was soggy. The waitress (no 2) came and cleared our table, no offer of pudding menus. We sat and waited for another 20 minutes whilst finishing our drinks, still no pudding menu. We got up to pay and told the waitress how disappointing the service was and she just said “ sorry about that so you want a receipt?” Absolute shocking service.

I ate here with two friends on Monday 21st October to celebrate friends birthday. The food and service were excellent as was the lovely 'surprise' birthday cheesecake complete with candle. A special shout out to Lee who was friendly and pleasant with his very welcomed slice of humour. Lee went above and beyond to ensure our stay was a pleasurable one. We will return!

Monday night not familiar with the area but the write up looked good. Very welcoming, food served quickly and very good, gammon especially. Lovely little village with a walk by the church.
