As ever this cafe never let's you down!! A true sign of quality is when even the simple things are done well and my choice of a green tea and poached eggs on toast couldn't have been better. My favourite cafe in Derby by a country mile.

Excellent food, excellent value, excellent staff, excellent atmosphere. Great choice for vegetarians and others. Very healthy well prepared food served with a smile.

I’ve been meaning to visit here for a long time, after driving past it more times than I can count. The layout inside, has definitely been thought out, with plenty to take in. We decided to go for a hot chocolate with cream, & a bonfire latte. For food we had a full english breakfast & smoked salmon, with scrambled eggs on granary toast. Unfortunately the visit got 4 stars, due to building being a little cold.

We had a family birthday party for 80 people at Bean last weekend. It was absolutely brilliant. Swain and the team could not have worked harder to give us all a fantastic time. They went out of their way to make time for us to set up; were there throughout the evening working hard to serve drinks and sort the food; and were there the following morning when we returned to collect the decorations we’d put up on the morning of the party. And to collect the refrigerated food we hadn’t managed to eat! The buffet they do is AMAZING - so much of it: buffet for 30 easily fed 80, delicious and beautifully set out. Pizzas they do, also gorgeous. Can’t praise Bean enough- would thoroughly recommend as a party venue - the room and outside space are fab and easily accommodated the singer we hired with loads of space for sitting AND dancing!

We visited Bean for a friends birthday party , what a fabulous venue , lovely friendly owner and staff , fabulous outside courtyard area too and the Grazing Table set up by Libby was beyond compare ! I totally recommend for a visit either to the cafe or as a nighttime venue for a special occasion .

Hired Bean Café for a private function. On arrival the room and outside seating area looked lovely. Staff friendly and very welcoming. Everyone commented on how wonderful and tasty the Grazing Table was. Home made pizzas were brought out later in the evening and again tasted delicious. Would highly recommend this venue for private functions and visiting during the week for their amazing food and drinks.

Great place. Went here for a private function. The grazing table was fabulous and there was a great selection of drinks available. The room is a great size for a smaller function with the benefit of an outdoor terrace with seating.

Came here for lunch after hearing lots of good things! We wasn’t disappointed. Friendly service,delicious food and great tasting coffee. Very much worth a visit, We will definitely be returning.

Popped in for a drink on a walkabout around Derby, lovely courtyard to sit outside in and enjoyed one of the Specialty Drinks can be served hot or cold, seeing as it was such a warm day I opted for the cold version of a Nutella Latte - delicious. Didn’t eat on this occasion but have done before and can highly recommend, great variety all freshly cooked. Great service too.

The staff are very friendly and happy! Which makes a great atmosphere! The coffee is also great. The food is okay - good enough for a Lunch Break on a normal day.

Met by a welcoming team of staff, they were very accommodating for myself and my dog! The food was fresh and tasted fab, the atmosphere was relaxed and the staff were very polite! Would have happily paid more for my food and drink!

Bean provided our company with a buffet lunch for 40 people today. The food came in individual boxes for each person and there was a range of meat & vegetarian deli boxes and meat and vegetarian sandwich boxes along with catering for vegan and dairy free. The boxes and food looked fantastic and tasted even better. Our customers and staff were all very impressed and said how delicious it was. I would definitely recommend Bean for buffets and working lunches.

I had high hopes when walking inside. The decor is lovely and it's an interesting building with a spacious layout and pretty outdoor area too. The coffees we had were also very nice. However, the food was pretty awful and very expensive for what you got. I ordered a salad with avocado and onion bhaji. There was about 1/4 of an avocado which was rock hard. The leaves used for the salad had so many mushy gone off leaves in it. The onion bhajis were like those pre made little ones you get cheap from supermarkets. They hadnt even been warmed up - just straight from the fridge packet. The "dressing" was simply a side of mango chuntey which became incredibly over powering and way too sweet after the third mouthful. The portion wasn't a great size either and all this for a whopping... £8. My partner had a sandwhich and found it really dry with not enough filling. The man who served us didn't really seem to understand the menu or how the place worked. He left the drinks and meal trays on our table, which takes up most of the space and is just such an odd and lazy thing to do. Felt like "Here's your drinks, can't be bothered to take away the tray, you deal with it." Definitely won't be returning. Oh, and the toilets were horrific. I'm not sure if that's down to them or the offices which share the building so I won't include that in the rating but yeah, filthy.

The staff, service and food were brilliant. Food was nicely presented all to a high standard.This is a really nice place to sit back and relax with either groups of friends and family. They have indoor and outdoor seating on offer all with comfortable chairs or settees. Would recommend

Bean have recently opened for brunch on a Sunday and having a free day I thought I must go. I opted for a sausage and egg buttie (scrambled) and it was honestly the best scrambled egg I’ve ever had!! Excellent service and amazing coffee, perfect for a Sunday morning/early afternoon whether it be with friends/family or just on your own.

Having visited on several occasions now and the food is always top notch with very attentive and friendly staff with a warm welcome every time. I recently have used the available meeting room for a business lunch again with great service and excellent coffee to keep us fuelled. Parking is available right outside at a reasonable rate.

Never disappointed when I visit Bean Cafe. Friendly staff, lovely food and a great atmosphere!! Couldn’t recommend it enough for anybody looking for a good priced breakfast or lunch!

This place has a great cosy atmosphere, Loads of variety on the menu with all the latest on trend dishes plus the classics, Great coffee which i actually found difficult to find on our trip to the U.K. Perfect for the family.

I used for a meeting and extended it to a lunch. Great place for a relaxed lunch, staff are lovely make you feel really welcome, homemade sausage rolls to die for!

This was an event that started mid afternoon to late evening. The space is awesome with an outside area which really added to the friendly atmosphere. Everyone of my friends I invited came along and were so impressed with the venue. The DJs were the best and everyone danced and enjoyed the space, atmosphere, food and music.Really this is absolutely ideal for anyone considering this kind of event. We can’t wait for the next one.

Massively recommend this cafe. Came here a couple of weeks ago for lunch, very impressed with the service and food. Wide variety on the menu, food was so fresh and very tastyStaff were so friendly and couldn’t do enough to make sure we had the best experience. Lovely decor and such a warm atmosphere. Fresh, tasty food - love the specials board, deli sandwiches and healthy options too!! Modern decor but still a homely feel and the staff are ever so friendly. It’s rare I’ll sit down to write a review but this place certainly deserves a visit! Will be sure to pop back in next time I’m nearby.

2nd review this time of food and coffee. Scrambled egg on toast might seem a simple thing but honestly, this was properly delicious. The tastiest, creamiest scrambled eggs ever and bloomer bread toasted to perfection. And coffee to die for as alway!

From the moment we arrive to when we leave the Bean Caffe, we feel relaxed, looked after, and comfortable. It is like visiting a good friends' home, the space is welcoming and we can sit outside in the sunny patio garden - weather permitting. The staff are so welcoming, helpful and attentive. The coffee is superb, a real treat. The food is tasty and heartwarming. The space has an eclectic mix of style and comfort a place to visit with friend or on your own. This gem of a cafe ticks every box - a must to visit - I do nearly every week!

Hired the venue for a university event - everyone was impressed with the artsy venue, variety of food and drinks. Staff were accommodating and couldn’t help enough - highly recommend The Bean Caffe for a midweek lunch, quick coffee or their private event services. Very versatile business and the staff are just as flexible.

Went into Bean Caffe for lunch with some friends, lunch was amazing! I had a mozzarella, pesto and tomato panini and it was stunning! Staff were extremely friendly and service was 10/10!

We had our special anniversary party at this venue, absolutely brilliant night, looked after perfectly by Libbi ,Kenzie, Nina and Swain with all the staff really accommodating, nothing was too much trouble and made our party with an old fashioned disco with proper records brill enjoyed by everyone, supplemented with a good BBQ with a fantastic atmosphere, there wasn't much gin left in the pop up gin bar at the end of the night.

Quick coffee break. Place very light, clean and airy. Coffee very good. Menus look good. Staff friendly and helpful. Will go again next time to eat.

We had the most amazing wedding reception at the Bean Cafe it was absolutely perfect the food was amazing and the on Beyoncé was fantastic we couldn’t of wished for such a better venue it was so laid-back and chilled out there was so helpful with our wedding reception on the details to food was brilliant I would highly recommend anybody to have a party here it was five star plus perfect absolutely amazing perfect location so close to town and everybody loved the pop-up gin bar and the bbq .

Visited here for a long overdue catch up with a friend. The staff were friendly and I loved the cafe decor. I struggle with noise , but there was no blaring music in here. I had the flatbread pizza followed by the honeycomb tiffin. Very scrummy. The hot chocolate was delicious. A bit on the pricey side, but will definitely go back!

A cafe in an self contained office building but too good to miss of you need a stop off on the west side of the city. Brilliant cafe, fresh food, great service, good prices. Its a gem of a venue for a catch up or meeting, just down road from BBC Radio Derby.

The girl working behind the counter was very friendly & very welcoming. I ordered 2 x take away coffees & 1 x Tray bake. I got charged for 2 x tray bakes thus having to get a refund for one.

Although the table at which we sat was cleared, the table top was fairly soiled so we cleaned it with a napkin before dining. The coffee (flat white) was on the weak side. My wife's toast was burned with a ridiculous up-charge of an extra 50 pence for a tiny packet of jam!

Well, what can I say, I’ve been here a few times now and it never disappoints. Today’s choice was tomato soup with a cheese toastie, WOW! Homemade, deliciousness is what it is. My partner had a baked potato with tuna mayo which I’m reliably informed is equally delicious.

This was near where i was staying and is a great little place to grab a quick bite and a drink. Good feel to the place and service very good and friendly

We organised for bean caffe to provide a buffet for 50 people for a 30th birthday party!! They did an amazing job, everyone loved it!! Highly recommend!!!!

First visit. Very impressed. The welcome from the two young ladies was outstanding. Superb Cappuccino & Latte. Cornflake cake delicious ( could have been smaller please ‍) Lemon Drizzle Cake was excellent & the server warmed it slightly which improved the light fluffy texture of the cake.

Cheerful warm and friendly greeting as soon as you enter, its a winner straight away. Modern and stylish decor with a well laid out interior the only downside for me on this visit is why have a television on (with sound) and music playing at the same time? Bacon sandwich was tasty with ample filling on decent bread and was washed down with a good mug of coffee.

I’ve been to Bean Caffe quite a few times now for lunch and the food is lovely. Jacket potato is generously filled and the service is fast which makes it the perfect place for a lunch during the working day!

Friendly staff with tasty, healthy food, not the cheapest lunch you'll ever have but some things are worth paying a bit more for.

Been one time and the place is lovely! Really enjoyed your food. Your staff are lovely and the inside of the cafe is beautifully designed. However, I live very close by and I've noticed that you host events every month or so. I don't mind the hosting of events. But please have some respect for for us and other nearby neighbours who are trying to sleep. I don't want to hear music blasting from the open doors and screeching. Some of us have work the next day. I can appreciate it being Saturday night and all, but I really think you guys need to consider ending the event at around 11pm the latest. Just puts me off so much!

I work in one of the offices in this premises and I often sometimes treat myself to dinner in the bean cafe. I always have a jacket potato, cheese and tuna. And it's always amazing I absolutely love it I love the environment the friendliness of the staff. Especially the young girl with short blonde hair she is always really lovely and pleasant and absolute credit to the business!! A really nice place to eat! And if you haven't given it a try you should it's a nice relaxing calm environment ! I love it!

After several years living in Derbyshire I called into this cafe last week for the first time. Wonderful, amazing coffee and a friendly, warm, welcoming setting. Come here for a lovely cup of coffee, great food and a warm welcome from the super staff. Super wifi too, and I could catch up on some work while having my espresso and croissant.

The food is lovely in the bean cafe I normally have the tuna, cheese melt and it is so very nice, a little pricey but you get what you pay for and that's good quality! I have never been in the bean cafe before I started working in the same block as the have offices and now I eat there regularly. The two girls serving are so very kind and helpful! Would recommend the bean cafe the atmosphere is really nice and calm give it a try

Pleasant enough but thought that nearly £5 for a couple of slices of bread and 3/4 of a mug of soup was a bit expensive.

I attended with friends on a late Sunday morning for some breakfast/lunch. The service was very friendly, the building is nicely decorated with an industrial feel to the architecture and some interesting ornaments and oddieites on display. The important bit though; the food! While the menu is fairly limited compared to some places that offer every dish under the sun, there was a good range of traditional breakfast meals and should have something to appeal to all tastes. The food arrived quickly and tasted good (I opted for a sandwich and soup, while friends had full English breakfasts) and the accompanying smoothie was lovely. All in all, I liked it here. Given it's over 100 miles from home, I'm unlikely to return anytime soon, but if I lived in Derby I'd be sure to visit again!

We went here for breakfast, it was freshly cooked, I had the full English it was one of the best I have ever had. My husband had the eggs benedict which was also very good. Coffee was great and the service was friendly, helpful and good.

Having visited the Bean many times for Sunday brunch we popped along mid week for breakfast. Paid £2.40 to park the car, ordered a couple drinks along with a bacon sandwich and full English; "we don't do those in the week, just on a Sunday, but we do the full English toasted sandwich". Being as that was a full English but in sandwich form I asked if I could have it as a full English on a plate with the toast on the side "no that's not possible". Okay then I'll have a bacon sandwich with an egg in please, and the computer said no to that as well, not with an apology just an arrogant 'no can do'.So what's that all about then? If you're cooking bacon, sausage, mushroom, tomatoes and toast what does it matter if a customer has it on a plate as separate items, and why can't the customer have the choice? Completely fine and acceptable if I was asking for food items not on the menu, but ridiculous attitude to take just for the sake of it. So will I rush back again, most probably not, life's too short to be told what choices I don't have. Bean Caffe's loss was Hackwood Farm's gain. Shall I be voting for them in the Derby Food and Drink awards as asked to on the notice by the till - not a chance.

We went for lunch, and I was surprised that it wasn't busier as it really deserves to be. The interior is beautifully done, with a lovely courtyard outside where we sat as it was a lovely sunny day, and thankfully people are not allowed to smoke outside. This is the sort of place I love; great design with excellent food at good prices. I had the focaccia pizza which was delicious. I also ordered a salad to share, which was a bit greedy as the pizza came with a lovely dressed side salad. My son had a mushroom goulash which I tried, and it was full of flavour. We will definitely go again.

It's hard to find somewhere which is open on a Sunday morning for brunch, but now I know Bean is open I shall be returning. The menu is varied as has many vegetarian options which is great. I don't drink normal milk so had porridge with soya milk, it is rare that cafe's will do this. There are a large selection of drinks but hot and cold. I also really like the atmosphere, shall be coming back very soon. HIGHLY recommended.

So, what better way to start an idle Sunday than avoiding a bowl of dry muesli by taking a short trip into town to enjoy a breakfast in a place that you've been meaning to go to for ages? Bean Caffe has been hitting the high end of reviews in Derby for a while now and from our experience this is fully deserved. This place is a little different, perfectly seated among a creative establishment because Bean Caffe has adopted a lovely individual style that boasts a slightly 'hipster' charm without any pretentiousness. The fact that we got there about 10 minutes after the café/Caffe opened and easily found a seat, yet by 30 minutes after opening there is a steady stream of couples and families coming in is a very positive sign. Despite it becoming busy it's spacious enough and the staff are friendly and welcoming that it's not cramped or too loud to interrupt our morning zen over an organic fruit juice while waiting for our eggs benedict and poached eggs to arrive.Now the problem with eggs, especially if you're particularly fussy, is that so many things can go wrong. Over cooked they are hard and rubbery, undercooked they are slimey and simply awful. Bean Caffe did none of these things wrong because they got them so right! Poached eggs that have a runny centre with lovely slices of bloomer bread, delicately garnished on the plate with pea shoots. It's simple yet perfectly refined. Veggies or meat eaters will find the breakfast here plentiful and if you're more discerning and looking for healthier start to your day (not on a Sunday - it's a day of rest) but if you do then there are cereals and hangover cures alike. Having had a good breakfast in various well established restaurants paying a good price for quality is not a shock. However Bean Caffe manages not only to compete on price against the 'workers cafes' but competes with established restaurants on quality. We will just have to come back for a dinner because breakfast was lush. Although we had to dash off for a 12 o'clock appointment, zen moment over and and end to a not so lazy Sunday - lots do when planning a wedding, a return visit may involve plucking a book or a board game off the shelf, easing back with a coffee and snacking away over a game of chequers. Ease back and nestle in, the foods great the atmospheres chilled and this place fits nicely in with the Cathedral quarters creative arena. Worth building into a day out in Derby. Or a place to meet up over a casual brunch with family including the little ones. Another tick in the box for dining out in Derby.

Lovely little secluded café, beautiful food (my husband is a vegetarian and was spoilt for choice). I had an amazing beetroot, feta and hazelnut salad - fantastic!

This is a clean nicely set out place and the staff are friendly. We had the full English breakfast and the ingredients were very quality. My only problem with this was the fact it was served in a smallish bowl, with not even a plate for the toast, which was perched on top. This made eating the breakfast tricky and messy, particularly since the beans were in a separate tiny bowl so you had either to dig them out one at a time or tip them out and make a mess. I like to eat my food, not wear it. Coffee was ok but a tad weak.

Had a delicious lunch here with colleagues. Bean stew, yorki npud, and pan roasted sandwich all excellent.Quirky interior in a greàt location. Will be back!

I think we finally found a nice breakfast place. Although it's a bit of a student looking place, there were people of all ages in. The staff are friendly and helpful. The place is clean. Has a industrial modern look to it. Food was really good. Husband had full British and I had the pancakes with a side of bacon. Great coffee. Good selection for brunch. Would like to try the lunch menu and a slice of cake next time!!!

I worked nearby for a month and visited this cafe almost every day. How lucky I was that Bean happend to be so close! Great coffee (and let me tell you, it's not easy to find a decent soya flat white. At Bean, it was always perfect, and even when they run out of soya milk, they gave me almond, which was even better), comfy sofas, lovely staff (and I'm one of these annoying customers who buy one cup of coffee and sit there for three hours - never once was anyone impolite to me), always working wifi. I had breakfast there once and pancakes were quite sad but toasts with banana were yummy, so I don't really have any opinion on food. Definitely can recommed this place for a cup of coffee during you lunchbreak, though!

Have been for coffee a couple of times but today we went for lunch. The bacon,stilton and rocket tart was delicious and could easily have fed both of us!! However the bacon and goats cheese toastie with chilly jam was also scummy! so we shared both! with salad and crisps, now full up!!

I am not really sure about some of the other reviews left here but I for one will be going back soon.I have visited several times in the evening for Hide Burgers and it is exceptional and have wanted to try it during the day for a while.I was not disappointed as the food was excellent. Great fresh produce at very reasonable prices in my honest opinion.I had the sausage egg and onion chutney buttie. The bread was fresh and the sausage and egg were cooked to perfection. It was so good my wife stole some of it!The coffee is excellent as well and not over priced in the least. Check the website for prices and you will see its on a par with most decent cafes in Derby.I would only have one small criticism and that is it is unclear if it's table or counter service. The staff could have been a little more attentive when we first arrived and made this clear. That said I will be back now I know the set up.Still love the decor.

A small coffee shop without aircon but with standard drinks at 'I saw you coming' prices. Outside tables are next to a busy road. Pretentious.

Popped in for a quick hot chocolate and a cup of tea. We didn't want any food but somewhere to sit and relax. The caffe was clean and unexciting. Ordered drinks at the counter and sat down. It seemed quiet just before lunch.

We wanted somewhere to eat a nice breakfast and read previous reviews so decided on Bean caffe despite not visiting before. There were a lot of nice selections so we chose 2 avocado smashes, 1 eggs benedicts and 1 full English. I had the full English and found it a little disappointing as the bacon was fatty, the sausage lacked flavour, the fried egg overlooked and 1 piece of toast was burnt. However my friends fared much better and really enjoyed their dishes so maybe I was just unlucky. There are also bloody Mary's and buck fizz which we enjoyed. The cafe was in a good location and I may return to try a different dish.

hubby very excited about this place so we thought we wouid try lookd intresting didn't really get a welcome feeling some poor woman came in who had been told off for feeding her baby outside but I really wanted to give this plce a chance so we orderd it was ment to be a flat bread with salmon pepper and and creamcheese there was not much cream cheese no pepper and was nice but not great the mixd salad which was ment to be dressd was not it was tasteless few bits of letus and few tiny tomatoes no onion we finish and left thinking nice place but very bland food and average service don't think we wouid return

Been to this cafe on numerous occasions now. Excellent service every time. The food is excellent quality you can tell it locally sourced & prepared fresh. The drinks are standard coffee shop drinks, but equally as good.One of my favourites

Another one of those cafes in Derby that charge you silly prices for a takeout coffee and you leave the building thinking that was more expensive than usual and you look down and the size of the cup is very small. And you wonder how they get away with it! I'll stick with jack rabbits coffee thank you.

Following the Cloud Trail cycle route to Derby, in need of a caffeine hit, stumbled upon this gem when other options were thin on the ground. Despite being a bit wet and not 100% clean we were welcomed and filled up with a fantastic coffee, and I know a good coffee, and a great cake. Just the ticket for the return ride. Will definitely make this a regular stop.

Nice place, great coffee and food selection. Lovely service. Highly recommended. Good location too and good value for money.

My wife decided that she didn't want a Mother's Day lunch as everywhere would be crowded but she would rather like to go for breakfast somewhere. We were going to go further afield from home but then decided we had too many other things to fill the day. After a little searching and reading a few very favourable reviews we decided upon the Bean Cafe. The place was relatively empty usually not a good sign but it was early! We got our table and then chose from the breakfast menu, all of us plumping for the full English. I ordered at the bar after queuing behind another party. This bit seemed to take ages as the girl taking the orders was also making the coffee/teas etc. Could have done with another employee to be honest. I placed my order and took my coffee back to my table. The food arrived within ten minutes, freshly cooked. There was 2 slices of bacon, 2 sausage, hash brown, beans, poached egg, black pudding, 2 slices of toast and the most amazing cherry tomatoes I have tasted. It was a huge plateful! I finished mine and also had to help my wife with her scraps! The coffee was also excellent. We shall definitely be visiting again!

Lunched there on Sunday whilst visiting the international photo fest 'Format'. Slightly out of the centre. good food freshly prepared, generous portions & v friendly and helpful service. child friendly, free wifi. I had a chicken Caesar salad, my partner had the blt - the trend nowadays seems to be for HUGE bread doorsteps - whilst a bit guilty of that, it was possible to get your noshing gear round the sammos which came with salad. Good choice of teas & coffees - overall a good atmosphere, a modern setting & we'd go again.
