Now The Reef Inn. The Beachcomber has changed hands and now trades as The Reef Inn. We discovered this ourselves in June 2021 when we were looking for the Beachcomber.

We visited the cafe twice for lunch and once for takeaway pizza during our week on the island. On each visit the staff were really friendly and helpful and the food was fantastic. Particular mention for the line caught mackerel ciabatta and hummus with flatbread. The pizzas were great too; after the 15 minute trip back to Ruaig we had them at our holiday house with a mega salad, bottle of sauvignon blanc and they were scrumptious. Keep up the great service and food.

I visited with my children on a lovely summers day and sat on the outside deck - what a delightful place! Such a friendly atmosphere, staff were efficient but more importantly lovely to chat to! The menu has clearly been really carefully thought out and it was lovely to see them using so much locally sourced produce. The Tiree line-caught mackerel with homemade tartare sauce was truly out of this world and my kids loved the homous flatbread (both homemade - as is all of their bread!). We also came for takeaway pizzas a few nights ago - they rivalled any I’ve had over my last 40years (that’s a lot of pizzas!!) and I’m looking forward to coming back to give the ceramic painting a go later in our holiday. I can honestly say that our holiday on Tiree really would not have been the same without Beachcomber!

The Beachcombers staff were so welcoming and friendly. We went for coffee but stayed for lunch. The banana and walnut cake was the lightest nicest cake I’ve ever had. Lunch of the spiced lamb ciabatta (home made bread) was superb with lovely salads and the hommous and flatbreads delicious. Great selection of drinks with really good coffee. We will be back every day on Tiree

We’d heard great things about the Beachcomber, so it might be that we were simply unlucky. Visiting this afternoon for coffee and cake, perhaps alarm bells should have rung when none of the staff even bothered to say hello as we entered. Despite the place being half empty we waited over twenty minutes for two cups of tepid coffee and a tiny slice of cake to arrive. We enquired at that point as to the location of the scone that had also been ordered, however the waiter seemed somewhat unsure as to its status and when we departed - having finished our coffees - the scone had yet to materialise. At £7.50 for two tepid coffees and a minuscule slice of Victoria sponge, I would not recommend this cafe. Try the Yellow Hare or Farmhouse Cafe instead, neither location will disappoint.

Good quality food, definitely not a greasy spoon! Also, they don't cater well for children, which is the only reason I've given it a 4. The smoked haddock rarebit was moreish and the meatball ciabatta was excellent. My only gripe was that I couldn't buy a grown-up slice of the rocky road, which I know was fab as I had a bit of my daughter's! Definitely want to go there again, but without a child with us next time!

What an amazing night we had at the Feast Night. unique and interesting food all with a local flavour but the distinct style of the chef. we found the details on their Facebook page and also booked via messenger. Highlights were the bread and beetroot hummous; salmon roe and creamy crab with potatoes, mackerel with edible flowers (one of the highlights for the kids!) and the chocolate cake. it was a lovely cosy place to eat, with all the craft items and things for sale all around, and they made our 10 and 11 year old very welcome and the friendly staff encouraged them to try everything and say what they liked and didn't like. we were very glad of our bike ride back to the hotel to work off the five courses! a really, really lovely evening, thank you!

I’ve just been lucky enough to have visited Tiree and fell upon the Beachcomber Cafe. Really tasty lunch menu with everything home made by Sam the chef. It’s a very busy little cafe and you can see why! The staff were really friendly, interested in you and happy to share their knowledge of the island and make suggestions of what to do. They clearly seem to enjoy working together and the atmosphere they created was warm, light hearted and very welcoming....the reason I went back to buy home made pizza in the evening!!!! It’s an idea to book ahead so you’re not disappointed if they’re busy!!

Beachcomber Feast Night......what a treat! Thank goodness we booked! We shared a relaxed evening sampling the amazing dishes of the very talented chef Sam Lomas. The setting was beautiful with sensitive lighting and soft background music. Sam came out and introduced himself at the start of the evening and talked us through the dishes with clarity and passion describing the food and flavours we would taste and why he chose the combinations of ingredients that were going to be served to us. Each of the 6 courses were served by friendly staff with a smile. They shared their knowledge of the food they were serving and and were happy to answer any questions we had and feed back our comments to the chef. All of the staff worked as a team, they were slick and attentive and the evening flowed. The flavours were totally unbelievable and to have eaten dishes you would expect in a top end restaurant in London on the beautiful island of Tiree was the icing on the cake of our stay.

It was a busy time on the island due to the festival however this didn't stop the staff from being incredibly welcoming, friendly, helpful and full of great advice. Bobby especially was extremely helpful, helping us get in touch with bike hire companies and showing us on a map good beaches to visit...absolutely went over and above what would be expected from waiting staff.

The Beachcomber cafe really fills a gap in the market on Tiree. Open until 8pm, and on Sundays too! We trawled across to various cafes on the island in search of coffee and cake, and the beachcomber was the only one that was open! This was no bad thing though, as both the coffee and the cake were delightful. The amazing, homemade cakes came in a wide variety and the staff were able to help me in choosing which one to have! It's good value, and definitely worth a visit. In addition to the coffee and cake, the Beachcomber also sells gifts and souvenirs, and you can even paint your own pottery! It takes a few days for it to be finished off though, so unfortunately I didn't have time to do that. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and you can even pay by card!

Being such a small community, Tiree doesn't have too many options when it comes to eating out. The hotels, in typical Hebridean style, don't make too much of an effort at an inspired and modern menu. This café, however, is a great alternative! It is in a very convenient location near the airport, easy to reach from all corners of the island, even by bike. They have a beautiful sheltered outdoor sitting area, and with a little luck you can watch the daily airplane land or take off. The food is yummy, they offer rolls and salads as well as soup, cakes, etc, very lovely and inspired. It is not like a restaurant with a full lunch or dinner menu, but portions are generous, prices are very fair, staff are friendly and dedicated. There is some information about the local produce they use in the menu. The café is also a craft shop with a tempting choice of souvenirs, cards, home deco, etc.

Toast was cold, eggs cold and avocado had some sort of green sludge mixed through it with toasted oats and seeds on top. Not what was ordered. Not what was on the menu and I had specifically said I wanted something plain. Don't bother - it's not worth it!!
