Beach House Cafe West Bay Dorset in West Dorset

We had a table for 8, all of us bar one had pizza which was really nice. My son had kids fish and chips and the fish was so tasty. Staff friendly and kept checking if we needed anything else. They have happy hour between 5-6pm and selected drinks are £5, worth it going then and saving yourself some money. Would recommend if visiting west bay

We were a group of 27, so a challenge for any restaurant. The food and service were absolutely fantastic. Delicious and unusual fish dishes, good pizzas and burgers, all came out quickly and staff kept drinks flowing too. Would highly recommend.

Staff were ok but not very welcoming, the food (pizza) was only average at best. I probably wouldn't go back..

Slightly disappointed 😞 Arrived about 3pm only to be told (after eventually being asked are you wanting to eat) "it's pizza only" that was fine as all I wanted, not very busy at all & the Farm House Pizza was ok but not worth £14 served in a pizza box (very rustic or original who knows but handy if you want to take what you can't eat home) I won't rush back & now worried about visiting the original cafe on the beach the Hive for its fish. Fingers crossed its better than this was. It lacked in something 🤔 it was clean, service was prompted but seemed very fast food "in, eat & go". Good luck, I hope your experience is better than mine.

This used to be our treat a few times a year as a couple, bought our daughter and grandson for pizza today. Tables where dirty and pizza was nothing like it used to be, bland nearly cold and just not pleasing to the eye. Chips where crap to be honest, not sure we will be returning. Told a member of staff who said it was a shame before walking off. Better places to spend our money in westbay.

Popped in here on a few occasions for a drink when at West Bay, have been able to get a table easily enough even though was busy.

Just had the fish and chips at this cafe nice enough fish and chips but was served salad as opposed to minted peas as on their website. I love salad but not with fish and chips so mentioned it to the young lad serving.....who with a big grin told me it was the chefs choice. I then checked the website and fish and chips are advertised with minted peas so gave them a quick ring. Apparently they do peas in the winter months and salad in the summer i suggested they update their website or inform their staff the correct information. Do not usually leave reviews but on this occasion the attitude of this place irritated.......I expect you can tell. Perhaps offering a choice of either peas or salad would be far to much trouble.!!!! Plus on a 40.80 bill they added 4.20 service charge......some service!!!!

We had a really relaxing drink and a crayfish sandwich which was very expensive but delicious. It’s a beach bar with decent food and a great location especially if you can get seated on the raised seating area overlooking the beach.

We took our dogs for a walk along the beech in West Bay and found the restaurant on the way back to the car park. And what a find!! Without a doubt some of the best pizza we’ve ever had. Forget the negative reviews the staff were charming helpful and very personable.

I came to this place with my friend while on holiday last week , we were seated at the pizza oven area in the corner which was fine but none of the tables had been cleaned at all . We could see they were dirty , I asked for our table to be cleaned by a female staff member and she literally sprayed one spray onto her cloth and wiped a bit and it was still dirty , she said to me is this ok ? When she had finished I said no not really it’s still not clean but she left it anyway anyway and clearly she didn’t know what to say or do so she left our table . I was not happy especially as it seems keeping the place clean isn’t a priority for the staff who seem to just be floating around not doing much . I saw some signs on each table saying tables need to be sanitised (in red ) / have been cleaned (in green )but clearly these were no longer in use and shoved in the box on the table with the sauces and while COVID is still here this should really be being done properly . The tables were pretty close to each other too and a lady asked to be moved as she felt too close to people behind her . I ordered the burrito which was ok but not a lot of flavour . No one asked if our food was ok or even came to clear the table and we had to get up to ask for the bill as no one seemed interested in checking on anyone . We won’t be returning

Very efficient staff. Good food. Prices high end for a terrace on the beach. My burritos were superb. My husbands burger ordinary. They advise you to use public loos nearby. Not a good experience. Wasps were a problem but they were doing their best with encouraging traps on the beach just outside on the beach which didn’t kill them, just enticed them away

Very over priced pizzas. Poor toppings, the pulled pork was strangely sweet, I nearly reached for the ice cream.

Food was SO SLOW (30-40 minutes that we were told when we arrived was actually over an hour) and at £20 for 3 very moderate pieces of fish in the fish taco didn't seem like great value. Very sweet waitress apologised regularly and profusely and did at least give us free drinks!

We had lovely food, both pizza and buttermilk chicken - all was cooke for perfection and tasted amazing. The service was fast and with an amazing view - thank you so much!

Visited Watch House Cafe twice during our recent trip. I had the fish tacos which tasted nice, but I felt the price didn't match the plate (2 tacos for £20!), and the taco shells were on the stale side, but tolerable. Fish was nice, and the salsa was good. The second trip I had a wood-fired pizza which had lots of flavour. It wasn't as spicy as I was expecting, but there isn't a much food in England that I find spicy enough for me. We skipped dessert on both occasions because there was a low inventory, but probably for the best. Go for a late lunch or early dinner in order to get a table without much of a wait. COVID safety seem adequate.

Tiny over priced take away potions. Very disappointed in the quality of food we recieved for the price we paid!

We stopped in for lunch today after a swim. Very welcoming team and very accommodating for our children as they went off menu for us. All in all the food was great, a little on the pricier side but still good.

We stopped here for a coffee and were served by pleasant staff and were told dogs allowed in but no smoking even in the outside area which is fair enough, drinks nice and hot and not too pricey, lovely views across the beach and would visit here again.

We sheltered from the bitingly cold strong wind along with lots of other people, many of whom looked like this was a regular Sunday brunch stop.Decor not much but the boss seemed on the ball and in control of the many young and cheerful staff rushing to and fro to meet the demand. We ordered just coffee initially but ended up with a late breakfast: scrambled eggs and smoked salmon for the missus and Eggs Royale for me. Quite quickly served despite the crowd, well cooked and tasty, presented on huge slabs of freshly baked artisan breads. We were lucky to get a table; there was quite a queue of shivering folk outside by the time we left. Better than the sister Hive Cafe at Burton Beach up the road.

Due to the lack of roadside eateries we popped into West Bay to find somewhere for breakfast. This cafe looked nice and served breakfasts. Result. The welcome was friendly but service after that felt like it was done begrudgingly by the young staff. Burnt toast, weird tasting mushrooms and a lack of service means I wouldn’t recommend this cafe for anything more than a coffee. (These were good.) After watching one of the staff cough over the cakes I’d avoid those too.

The place is very popular so we had to wait for a table inside as it was very windy outside. ...even so it was very draughty inside due to doors being constantly open and shut. Menu ok if you like pizzas but limited fish courses .Fish and chips ok except chips were cold. The fish burger was very disappointing as could only taste smoke due to it being mainly smoked haddock and coleslaw not homemade.Expensive for what we had.

We arrived as a party of 8 with ages ranging from 5 years old to 75 and we were met with a warm welcome. They quickly put two tables together to accommodate us and the service was quick and cheerful. We ordered from the menu and specials board and the food arrived quickly and piping hot. The home cooked pizzas were delicious as was the fish and chips....huge portions! Everyone at the table enjoyed their meals and the relaxed atmosphere. Would definitely come back again...highly recommend.

Attracted by the shabby chic look of the place & daily specials blackboard. A super hot day about 28 degrees. We got a long table outside to accommodate all. Sophie took our order & checked if the daily special was still available. It was, sea bream pan cooked with cous cous & chorizo. Most of the group went for pizza from the wood fired oven. Amazing that all the meals came together. Impressive for a group of nine. A good selection of unusual drinks available. I had a cracking ginger beer with ice. It really had some zing.Great service, great staff, fab location. All nine plates empty! Enough said!Will we be back, for sure!

We were in search of Crab Sandwiches and a drink and found them here. A great location and pretty busy. We always like the look of the fish and chips and one day we’ll try them. The pizzas cooked in the corner oven looked good too. A nice place to go for food and drink.

This is a must , a darling little restaurant set on the beach at west bay The service is excellent and the food is top quality , also tastes amazing West bay restaurant certainly delivers

Almorcé hoy en día con la familia. Las pizzas crujientes y artesanales y platos principales de cangrejo gambas no es el más barato, pero vale la pena cada céntimo. Muy, muy buena comida, buena carta de vinos, dulces preciosa y el personal es profesional y cortés.

Llamamos para una pizza de pescado y no estamos decepcionados. Chicos fiestas carne que venía con jalapeños, que tenía algunas bolas. Las pizzas estaban cocinadas en el horno de pizza en el conservatorio, en frente de nosotros, y eran sublimes. No es el más barato de los lugares, pero bien vale la pena.

Este café ha estado aquí durante años, ahora bajo la nueva dirección. La comida es genial, las comidas y tentempiés. Se llena en temporada alta, pero siempre consigue encontrar un asiento. Gran pasteles, bollos, pizzas, etc. Literalmente en la playa, en West Bay, pero desafortunadamente no tiene vistas al mar. Mascotas y niños. Bien merece una visita.

Después de conducir más de 2 horas para alojarse con amigos localmente. . Nos llevó, 2 horas para ser servido y alimentado. El sábado a mediodía. Menú personal agradable y dispuesto, pero alguien por favor a administrar y ayudar a centrar cuando hay mucha gente. . . Muy aleatorio, servicio de al menos 3 disgregada servidores diferentes. . . . . Sándwich de cangrejo excelente - y debería ser por más de £11 + y pizzas tenía una gran variedad de coberturas, pero cuando finalmente llegamos a sólo un escaso puñado de golosinas - después de más de una hora de espera. Al parecer ocupado y llevar los pedidos de mesa. interrumpir Por 15 libras un pop, aunque grande, la pizza parecía básico- debe ser seductores!

Welcoming staff no drinks on draught only bottled beers and cider. Decent choice and was refreshingly cold after a few hours on the beach.

Could not find this restaurant when in West Bay but then realised it is actually the Watch House cafe which I have also reviewed.

Metimos en aquí para una comida ligera después almejas en West Bay y tenía una deliciosa comida. El menú es muy amplio y a un precio razonable y la comida era muy sabroso. atienden bien tanto para niños como para adultos. Realmente recomendaría este lugar para el almuerzo, pero no está abierta para el té, que es una pena!

This is a lovely cafe with wonderful views of the Jurassic coast. You can eat in or out and choose from a huge variety of food on offer, from wood fired oven pizzas to crab sandwiches (which were fantastic)! There are also delicious cakes and drinks.

Enjoyed our lunch immensley , fresh mackerrel grilled with granary bread and salad. My son said his pizza was the best he had ever eaten ,full of flavours. The only thing was the bill, found it rather expensive for two .But worth a treat!!Would def go back..I think the cafe is now called water something cafe....hope it is the same cafe.....

I have visited here on numerous occasions and have always opted for the pizza, which I have always enjoyed (so have my children). On my most recent visit I decided to order the cheese and onion chutney sandwich, my taste buds may well have failed me on this day but to me I was just eating a cheese sandwich, there was no hint of chutney, making the meal very dry to eat. Very disappointing for me, luckily my children ordered the pizza!

Popped in for a quick meal and had wonderful fish and chips. Very much a family place to eat so don't go if you want a quiet meal ! But it was very good.

Right on the beach. Good value for money. Excellent pizzas. Strongly recommended.No toilet facilities, you have to use the nearby Public Conveniences, which are very smelly...

A spacious cafe on the sea front of West Bay, speedy friendly service, food was excellent. They even provide cash back do you don't have to pay at a fee at the campsite or local shop cashpoints
