Beach & Badger in West Dorset

Great setting but let down by food preparation and wooden cutlery. Yes, the setting is fab overlooking Lyme Regis beach. However, the food prep was disappointing given the high prices. I spent over £15 on 2 teas, a sausage roll and a cake. The sausage roll was good quality (award winning bought in from elsewhere) but they microwaved it to warm it up - a travesty and soggy pastry. And the soggy sausage roll was served alone with no garnish or anything else on the plate or any offer of sauces etc. The cutlery was wooden disposable which just sets my teeth on edge. The tea had too much milk put in it - no choice to do it yourself - a mug of milky tea presented, yuck, not my cup of tea! The waiting staff were pleasant enough but not exactly enthusiastic or bothering to check all was well. Give the high prices, I won’t be back. They’ve got such a fab location and have bought in higher quality food, what a shame they have ruined it with poor food prep, crap utensils and disinterested staff.

The Beach & Badger is in a great location with great views. The cakes looked lush but we just had drinks. The staff were lovely, very friendly. Relaxed atmosphere.

I don't usually write reviews but after such an appalling experience I felt compelled to write one. After grabbing a bite elsewhere we wanted to pick up a drink to take with us to watch the fireworks. The owner's behaviour was totally unacceptable. My mother in law asked for a cup holder to take our drinks away and the owner was incredibly rude to her, pointing at the sign (something like "no sitting after 8.30pm unless you're eating") When we replied that we hadn't seen the sign and we weren’t intending on staying anyway. We just sat on one of the empty seats only intending to stay for a few mins and hadn’t seen the sign. (We’d spent £24 on drinks). She got angry that we hadn’t moved and she said: "get off my F**king property!" I could not believe my ears. The other customers sitting down looked shocked! Her customer service has long expired and if she carries on treating her customers like that her business will too! I for one won't be returning. The food certainly wasn't worth it as I’ve eaten here before and with that experience from the owner will definitely not return. If you want good food and great customer service. Go elsewhere.

The owner of the restaurant was absolutely awful! Swearing at my family and I, in front of young children and shouting at my poor grandmother, she also said she deletes all the bad reviews, don’t order a drink here as she will tell you to leave the premises if haven’t ordered food which is ridiculous, not to mention the ridiculous price for drinks, the coffee tastes burnt also. However the reason I will never come back here and warn everyone I know to avoid this place at all costs is due to the owner who is the most horrible, rude, disrespectful person I have ever met! I’ve never met someone who uses such awful language, with no regard to the many young children in the restaurant, so much so a mother and two kids left during her shouting the F word. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Just visited on Firework night and the speediest service which is always a bonus but to top it off the food was fantastic. Some of the best lie and mash I have tasted! Highly recommend a visit.

Words to sum up the owner: Rude, arrogant, aggressive and she proudly claims she deletes all bad reviews. She may get lucky with one time visits from tourist but we are local and her reputation as a being a foul mouth and unpleasant woman is spreading rapidly. She has no regard for her customers at all. She upset a young family by shouting at some customers nearby (who she decided hadn’t moved quickly enough) so she told them to ‘F off my property’. Even ignoring the owners total lack of people skills and common courtesy, the food and drink are mediocre at best. There are some wonderful places to eat and drink in Lyme where you will be treated with respect and friendliness. Avoid this place at all costs. And you can delete the reviews but you can’t stop word of mouth.

A perfect spot to watch the harbour and beach. Fabulous coffee. Very Dog friendly with all sorts of doggy treats available. Wonderful views and friendly service. Became a regular stop on our holiday.

This cafe has tremendous views over the cob and beach. It is very clean and nicely decorated. But….,,to be served a cup of tea in a paper cup with the milk already added was horrible. My tea was like treacle and I had to ask for half to be poured away and topped up with water. Come on ….for those drinking in your cafe please use cups and saucers and preferably a teapot. Also use a teabag on a string if not a teapot!

There’s a limited menu but they do it really well. The food is great, and it’s a small but amazing view over the beach. This place clearly shows the best things come in small packages! Can’t wait to come back and try the cream tea.

Just popped in for a coffee & was impressed by very friendly service from the young staff. Delicious coffee too! Worth a visit.

A poor experience on Sunday 3/3/24. We sat outside in the beautiful sunshine but had to listen to the constant loud moaning of the lady in charge at her young staff. Do this, don't do that and in general demonstrating a complete lack of leadership and training and with no regard to them in front of customers. Besides that the Cappuccino was far too hot and closely resembled a latte. Lovely spot but needs a change in ownership would be my recommendation

Basic..food.Baked potato small beef pie chewy served with wooden flimsy cutlery in polystyrene containers…so expensive for what we got !!!!

Wow! So pleased we found this gem a few miles from home. The owner is a genuine beautiful soul who went above and beyond for me twice. Firstly I had ordered some sweet sharing platters for my husband's birthday, these were just stunning. I Then ordered 6 Sunday bests and a mothership as a take away. Again was given exceptional service. The food is something else! Unique and just beautiful. Excellent value for money. We are certainly customers for life and we are already thinking about what pie to try next time. They are seriously good pies; the best we have ever had. 10/10

What a lovely little place , Brilliant friendly staff, great service very quick !! great view , seating is inside and out but was too cold to sit out today . it is not a resteraunt it’s a cafe/takeaway , so don’t expect plates it’s served in paper take out cartons and cups and paper bags which is fine . means they also aren’t wasting time washing up so can serve customers faster which i feel is a bonus on busy days . I had leek and potato soup homemade on the premises and my partner went for sausage and mash . both were delicious thank you so much we will be returning in the future .

This place has a great setting overlooking the Lyme bay. That's where the recommendations stop. It serves tasty pieminster pies that they have bought in, however for reasons best know only to themselves they then serve these slowly in disposable boxes with mushy peas. We ordered coffee and assuming that their usual barista wasn't on duty as the flat white looked identical to the cappuccino however it was slightly smaller.

Ordered a couple hot drinks which were good, also ordered a pie, mash and gravy at the same time. Waited 40mins for the pie (bearing in mind there was only 7 people in the cafe) which still hadn't come, unfortunately our parking was running out of time so went to ask for a refund. Lady in kitchen abruptly told us we had waited only 13minutes and that apparently our receipt which was given when we ordered/paid was wrong and that we were lying? Not quite sure how that works.. Same lady who was cooking also came out of the kitchen to go hug and pet the dogs customers had to then go straight back into the kitchen to handle food which is a bit dirty and unhygienic. Shame as the setting is perfect and the food does actually sound really tasty but I suppose that's only if you actually receive the food.

Just had a hot choc and latte with my family and baby . The server gave us the hot choc and apologised ‘for the state’ if it, yet still served it. When we politely took it back to ask for it to be done again, the staff were happy to oblige, but the owner came out the kitchen with an immediate attitude and utter rudeness, considering she hadn’t actually seen anything that happened, she refused and we left very disappointed . I had my 6 month old baby with me and felt very upset to be treated so badly when we were quite polite.

The beach & badger team did an incredible spread for our huge birthday party at the marine Theatre. They managed to creat a range of hot curries and veg, vegan and meat dishes for more than 200 hungry party guests and everyone mentioned how amazing and tasty the food was. Jane, Helen and her team did a brilliant job and we recommend them to anyone looking for tasty, reliable catering ! Thanks guys 🤩💫🎉👏👏👏

We have just had a party at the Marine Theatre in Lyme Regis. I cannot compliment Jane and Helen more for the effort and the quality of food that they put on for us. We were expecting about 270 people and they gave out 320 hot dishes of food on the night. Food included the most beautiful curries and sausages and mash, catering for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian. They and their service were absolutely amazing. We are so grateful and would recommend them for parties both large and small.

What a spot to sit and have a coffee and pie. Caters nicely for vegans and with a view over the bay, it's easy to relax into sublimity while your dog munches on an array of dog delights. Could easily spend the day there.

An absolutely stunning location, perfect for lunch, brunch, coffee or a snack. The food is fresh, delicious and high quality. A must visit for all dog owners, they stock the best quality and range of dog treats and snacks.

Such a happy place. Owner & staff are so freindly. Popped in for coffee with my doggie and he was given gravy bones and free ice-cream as it was end of season stock !. We were totally spoilt. Perfect place for doggies 🐕 👌 😍

What a happy find! This cafe has only been open for 9 weeks and it is just what we needed. My nephew is vegan and it can sometimes be difficult to find good food. Beach snd badger specialise in Pieminister pies and they are delicious....
