The muffins especially the apple and cinnemon was nice but £3.10 for a medium American seems alot . £4 for a milkshake. Seating overlooking the river was a bonus. Nothing wrong the quality but these prices seemed a bit steep.

A ‘small cappuccino’ is SMALL! for £3.20 Small cake and I mean SMALL! £4.65 I suppose, if we are buying it, they will continue to charge it. It will be the last time we eat/drink here. So many food items in life now are becoming a luxury item. When will it stop…

This café is located on the first floor of the Oracle shopping Centre in Reading. It has a large window frontage overlooking the river hospitality area and was very popular on the Sunday morning we visited. It is self-service, the coffee was good quality and unusually in Reading they took cash. Some of the seats could do with reupholstering.

It’s a busy Saturday but as a customer we are expecting always the best. The man making the hot drinks was rude, terrible attitude, swearing in front of costumers and upset because someone took the wrong drink. I feel sorry for the ladies working with him. Had some amazing muffins here, the choice is quite indulgent! They are a large size with lots of filling and the other cakes on offer, millionaires shortbread and other slices are also a decent size and everything looks incredibly fresh. The coffee is also good, as is the iced coffee and cloudy lemonade options. The staff behind the counter are very pleasant and patient - as it took a while for us to choose. A great rest stop whilst out shopping, would certainly come here again.

This place is more for families as it is located inside the oracle shopping center and it has easy access for prams and trolleys. I have been to this place a few times and the coffee is ok, the service is ok, the atmosphere is ok but you still have the feeling of being in the mall. You can hear the noise from all the shops. Overall is good, plenty of seats and a nice view especially if you sit next to the windows.

Had the most horrific experience here, have never felt so targeted and abused in my whole life. The 'cafe' was small, staff were rude, had a muffin which was not only dry but also tasteless. Mainly shocked with the staff members working there, how a place can hire such staff horrifies me and I left feeling attacked. Only gave it 1 star because -100 wasn't an option. Wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemies. Don't come here if you have any self respect!

My friend and I went here this weekend and when I was served by the older female staff member she asked me what I wanted. I asked for a regular tea (which was clearly priced at £1.90) which she started to prepare. When it was ready she asked me for £1.95 - I had £2 ready and handed it over. She then presented me with a receipt and 5p change. I asked her was it not £1.90 not £1.95, to which she sighed and handed me 5p from the 'tips' saucer. Looking at my receipt she had charged me the correct price of £1.90 but had kept back 5p. This is all very petty but it was the principle that she was deliberately taking back 5p from me (and how many other customers did she try this out with) and didn't apologise either. Had I wanted to give a tip I certainly didn't want to now.

What this cafe lacks in atmosphere it more than make up for in the quality of its food, especially its scones which are the best in the area! I also have to praise the staff, one of whom was very helpful when my granddaughter had a nosebleed in the cafe and quickly provided all that was needed to deal with it, with the minimum of fuss. Met Mum and sister for a coffee and one of the delicious muffins (we come all the time, the muffins are so fresh and fluffy and sometimes still warm from the oven) however my toddler fell asleep on the sofa so we ended staying for lunch too! Familiar staff are always welcoming and friendly, we've always had fantastic service from them. A really lovely relaxed atmosphere too, very welcoming of mums and babies and lots of space, not hundreds of tables all crammed in. Very surprised to hear poor reviews as this is my go-to place for great service and coffee/muffin/light lunch - give them a break!

I wrote to BBS to complain with regard to an issue I had at the Reading branch on the 28th May, but didn't receive any reply. I ordered 2 Americanos, one with 2 shots regular size and one with 1 shot a small size, but I asked if I can have the one shot coffee in a larger cup, because I cannot drink strong coffee. However I was told I will be charged for a regular size coffee even though I just wanted extra water in my coffee, but I was refused point blank and charged for the regular size by the supervisor of the Reading branch. I generally request this at all well known and indeed most independent coffee shops, who are all very accommodating to add extra hot water without charge. However BBS Reading branch was very mean regarding my request, so in the end I paid £4.70 for 2 coffees, I would have left for somewhere else, but my husband was feeling unwell and needed to sit down. Now I will not visit BBS coffee shops again. What a disappointing place and poor customer focus.....

We waited in a queue for 25 minutes, listening to the staff shouting at each other (highly unprofessional) only to get to the front, be rudely acknowledged with no pleasantries, to find out half their menu wasn't on offer. No apologies, we felt like we were being a burden on there time, we left. The baguettes on offer looked unappetising. If they had only put a sign up at the beginning of the queue we wouldn't have had to go through this ordeal.

If I could have rated a minus figure I would have. The service was absolutely diabolical, the woman at the counter was rude, unkempt, judgemental and just not at the standard you would expect for a supposed 'manager'. I ordered a latte which was average being lukewarm at best, she did not offer me to take away and assumed the person I was with was going to eat food not from the venue so insisted I ate in just to make life difficult. I am very disappointed with this experience and I do hope the woman who was at the counter working on the 9th of October at around half past 2 is spoken to about her behaviour.

Used to visit here frequently but had a couple of bad visits a couple of months so haven't been for a while. Met a friend for coffee today who didn't know Reading, so thought would go to BB's as view is good and I hoped they would be back to their former good business. Sadly it was awful. My cappuccino had no foam on top and was a cup of watery, warm not hot, coffee. Somebody needs to train the staff as to what a cappuccino is! My friend had a latte and it too was only warm. The service was really slow too. There are lots of good coffee shops in Reading so there is no need to put up with poor quality. I am no longer a loyal customer and won't be going back.

The Cappucino muffin they do is new and frankly the nicest muffin we have had that is gluten free in Reading. They always have 2 or 3 gluten free muffins. My wife has been a true coeliac for over a decade now, so I know that these are genuinely gluten free and whats more keep us both going back. It is difficult to know whether the view over the river or the choice of muffins is the best thing about BBs. I would opt for the muffins and then the view. As we do not visit this cafe very frequently I do not know how often they change the choice of muffins. All I know is I have a different muffin each visit. This time I had the Banoffie, It was a close call with the Raspberry and White Chocolate. All I can say is once you have tasted these muffins all other muffins are second class.

Pierre's is a sandwich bar, really, rather than a cafe as such. Great selection of sandwiches, wraps, baguettes, and baked potatoes listed on the boards, and they cook their own baguettes in an oven right in front of you. However, as I said, it's not really a cafe. I stare up at the boards. I'm in the mood for a baked potato - with chilli, preferably. That's not on the menu, but I spot three Christmas specials pasted up onto the baked potato list. Turkey, stuffing and ham etc. So, I enquire if they are fills for baked potatoes. "Well, you can have anything you want in a baked potato", says the young lady behind the counter. "You can choose from anything on the menu and we can put it in a potato, but it might cost a bit extra." She's late twenties, dyed blonde hair, heavy makeup, and a strongish eastern European accent. She's trying to be helpful, I know. But I'm lazy. I don't want to have to design my lunch from scratch, though I know a lot of people do and it's what sandwich bars pride themselves for. I'm also slightly confused what the Christmas specials might look like (a mini dinner?, a sandwich filling?). So, not wanting to create a fuss, I panic and go for the lowest common denominator: a bacon baguette, packet of crisps and an orange juice – to eat in. It's nice enough, but maybe a bit steep at £6.50. I finish it quickly, not because it's particularly tasty but because the door's wide open, it's mid-December, and I've got my coat and scarf on. And the ambience is business-like rather than relaxing and inviting. A gentle stream of new customers enter and order, and some sit down to eat, like me. Behind the counter, apart from the blonde young lady there are two big blokes, also in their twenties. They're wearing aprons so must be serving staff, but they just seem to be hanging around not doing much. They all give the air of being temporary staff and that sandwich-making is not the first love of their lives. Cheerful enough, but not wonderfully friendly. I get up to leave. On my way out I call "Thanks", trying to catch someone's eye, hoping someone might smile back at me. I'm invisible. Nobody seems the least interested. I might be back for a sandwich some day. Not sure I'll be back for a sit-down. But then, it is really just a sandwich bar rather than a cafe, after all.

Poor quality and service, £3.70 for a SMALL black Americano (ie no milk or skill required) should be amazing but far from it. Just a plain old Starbucks coffee. Served with monosyllabic generally grumpy lady who sadly doesn’t enjoy her job - my advice, go to Costa!
