Walked in at 11:50, three members of staff behind the bar and no major queue. Asked if there was a lunch menu handy and was told lunch isn’t being served till 12. I’m local and this was my first and only visit this year went for lunch at the much friendlier Duver Cafe. The attitude of the staff is atrocious, they forget they are providing a service

Due to it being early, we were the only customers at the cafe. Ordered poached eggs on toast which came out half an hour later. The toast was cold, the poached eggs cold and hard and a very poor response from staff, who have very little training in customer service. What a shame, with a little effort could be so much better. Should of been a half decent meal for what we spent.

Whilst it’s good the place is open inside again, some more thought needs to be given. For example, whilst there’s a children’s menu - there are no high chairs. Not particularly welcoming. Food - had to wait for a while, it wasn’t very busy. Perhaps it’s early season & things will iron out for the summer.

We visited on a very busy sunny beach day! It was a bit of a wait and we were at first a bit surprised by the prices looking very steep ... but! ..... when the food came (understandably it was a long wait with so many lunch orders and them all being cooked freshly!) The portions were huge! One portion of chips easily satisfied 2 hungry 8 year olds! And the amount of Crab on the salad was extremely generous! I was impressed that in such a busy service all the food was so well presented and all piping hot and freshly made! We did have to wait and there is only outside seating but if you understand the operational challenges they must face and want freshly prepared fresh quality food well made then make sure you visit - can't recommend enough! My only feedback is that we wish the inside seating was reopened and an evening dinner service resumed this venue is unique and amazing :)

We popped in after a visit to the beautiful beach. There are 2 tills but it was a messy layout. There are freezers and items to buy in the doorway so it's hard to browse without standing in someone's way! We shared some chips which were way too heavily salted. I overheard another customer complaining about this, they were told that it's standard practice. Disposable paper wrapping and wooden disposable cutlery, unfortunately this seems to be a trend with places not wanting to clean up after their customers. Not great for the planet though! Too many staff but not enough service

We are regular visitors to the Duver and usually take a picnic. We wanted chips to augment our picnic - bought TWO bags at a cost of £8, but were refused access to the tables and benches as they are for 'customers only'. People who only purchased cups of tea (presumably at a cost somewhat lower than £8), WERE allowed to use the tables & benches. When is a customer NOT a customer? Is one only a customer if one buys tea or coffee? We are not tourists who will accept being ripped off; we are I O W residents, who visit the Duver come rain or shine. It can be taken as read that we WILL NOT spend so much as a penny at this establishment in future. My family has been on the island for more than 800 years and I detest with a passion this rip off attitude which is prevalent today and gives the island a very bad name. Incidentally the chips were barely edible and most ended in the bin.

You're in an English seaside place, yes? You want greasy spoon cheap sausages and deep fried everything, right? Well, no, this is 2022. These folks know that and have come up with a clever menu. Clever because sausage, bacon etc is there for you - but top quality, loads of it and not greasy. Clever because there is also avo and poached egg available for the new generation and - excellent innovation- 3 times clever because served without cutlery in a brown recyclable brown box. ( and a brioche bun, you didn't think we ate poached egg with our fingers, did ya?)

We love The Duver but as long as we've lived on the IOW this restaurant. with its beautiful position, has always been let down by its service. In the past I have had to tell a member of staff not to sit on the counter where food was served. I have also seen a family of 6 (who had moored their boat), turned away because they wouldn't take an order for another 20 minutes! Today we had a couple of hours at our favourite place, had a hot drink, talking into an intercom to an invisible person behind perspex, moved up to another window to collect our drinks, waited for our bleepy thing to vibrate, to be served toast in a paper bag with NO PLATE. I can understand when Covid was rife but not now. In fairness my husband had a bacon roll which was full of bacon, but at £6.50 a shot it should be. Having been in hospirality I would have loved to have owned it and show them what hospitality should be like but it appears the owners are happy to rely on the beautiful place the restaurant is based, rather than care about their customers.

Would give zero stars if I could. After spending £48 on lunch (for 4 people!) I asked if we could possibly have an extra cardboard container to be able to split the childrens food up as they were sharing a baguette which came in a little sleeve. They probably cost all of about 4pence to provide but I was taken back when I was told very arrogantly over a phone which he refused to look up from that they do not give out ‘freebies’. When I questioned why he told he very rudely that “he had already explained and what don’t I understand”. I wish we had looked at Google reviews before coming as it seems we are not the only ones by far who had had such awful service. Will not be returning. Their business model seems to be profit over customer experience.

The food here was not worth the price. It was over priced for the smallest portion of crab and chips. Having eaten crab and chips in various places we were absolutely shocked at what we got and would not recommend the crab and chips at all. It was certainly not fresh. The service was OK. Over priced. Spent over £60 with out drinks. Not trying to ruin there business in any way. But the owners should take a look at this and starting looking after there customers

Seems very expensive for what you get. £51 for 2 baguettes a fish finger roll and a sandwich plus drinks. The baguettes were made with take and bake bread and pre-packed (I assume made in the morning) which seems a lazy option when there are various local bakeries in the area. There is limited options for food on the duver so its a captive audience for them. They could do a lot better.

So, after spending £48 on lunch for 2 adults and 3 children (no drinks by the way) I asked if we could have an additional container to divide my autistic sons food as he has issues with different textures touching. Anyway to my astonishment was bluntly told that our request was not possible. When I challenged as to why was then informed it was not 'policy' to give away free containers. When I suggested that spending nearly £50 on lunch was hardly asking for a freebie the staff member then blanked me and carried on serving the next customer. I live in London and have to say that charging £17 for a prawn salad is pretty punchy! Would just anyone visiting St. Helens to avoid this tourist rip off trap. Was genuinely lost for words. Pretty good unless it's raining. Fantastic location, and fabulous in the sunshine. However, currently they have closed off the inside completely to 'stay safe' during Covid (this written in May 2022 when we are all 'open' again elsewhere across the country). Had dropped in for breakfast on a busy Bank Holiday Monday and to be fair we were not expecting much. We were blown away by the quality of the food! My husband and 2 sons had the full English breakfast brioche which had egg, sausage, bacon, hash brown, mushrooms and tomato. They declared it the best breakfast they had ever eaten and were extra appreciative of the runny yolk. Myself and my daughter had toast. You'd think toast was just toast? But the bread was absolutely delicious. Like bread used to be. Full of flavour and great texture. The coffee was one of the best I've had too. I can't recommend the food highly enough. Came back to this treasure on the island, and yet again not disappointed, the family run business have gone out of they're way to keep providing great food / drink in these difficult times, the food is great quality, the service goes above and beyond, and reasonably priced, and most importantly the cleanliness and hygiene is top hole, providing food in a takeaway style to eat at they're tables, been on the island for two weeks and have eaten here most every day. Bay watch cafe has the benefit of being in a lovely spot. The food is also good, very delicious chips and well seasoned chicken strips, scampi, garlic prawns, and fried fish (which were all the dishes i either had, or sampled from a friends plate). However, the queue was ridiculously long, and the servers only remembered to mention that it would take 40 minutes for our food to come AFTER we had paid! A bit frustrating as we were already in a rush. There’s also a sign for the ice cream queue which is misleading, as there is no ice cream queue, all the queues are the same (and incredibly long, as i mentioned before).

Prices were clearly advertised but what I got for the money was disappointing. 'Crab & chips' near £14 in a cardboard box was a table spoon of cold crabmeat (I think) on a portion of okay chips. Beer was also hideously overpriced- I mean, it's a hut, the overheads won't be Rick Stein.

We have lunch with friends every month at this pub and the food is very good. We had a Christmas lunch there and we nearly got the wrong order but no problem as it was just a blip. Apparently the chef wasn't working that day ( or had left), and one of the regular bar staff stood in. A good portion and it was proper turkey, not processed. The roast spuds were good too. Unfortunately the pig in blanket was very hard as if warmed up in a microwave. Yorkshire was soft and chewy and only a stamp size portion of stuffing. Also, it was just warm. My husband had a special burger with the rosemary salted chips as the chips have always been so good. He said they were soft, not crispy as usual. I expect the fact that the chef wasn't available, the staff did their best and they must be thanked for putting themselves out. I hope the chef returns or they employ another one that is as good as the last one because the everyday food is very good. The staff are very friendly and it is a lovely pub and we enjoy having lunch there. For the everyday food I'd give 5 stars.
