Bayleaves in Sheffield

Really good food, good service and good hygiene - would definitely recommend!

We regularly visit Bayleaves as it’s our local Indian restaurant. It’s always fantastic food, we visited last night and had a wonderful experience. The gentleman serving us was so so helpful. They even made me a special lentil dish which was utterly gorgeous. Thanks guys and see you again soon.

Had a lovely meal at Bayleaves last night. The food was excellent and very tasty. My partner is a vegetarian and finding good quality veg restaurant options is sometimes challenging. She had 3 of the smaller portion veg starters for her main meal and commented that there was plenty of fresh veg in her dishes and Bayleaves was a very good option for her. I had the chicken and prawn special and that was excellent. Service was great also. We will be going back.

It absolutely pains me to be putting this review but we'll never set foot through door again, or order a take away. We've never ever had an issue with the food, always been amazing but the service was terrible. Over the years we've been going service can only be described as a bipolar roller coaster. It's a 50/50 chance whether you're going to be welcomed with a talkative, happy, chirpy kind of service or complete ignorance and made to feel like you're asking too much when only asking for a child's high chair, which his response was dead straight "no". Now we've used the high chair before so I'm not sure whether there was an issue and it broke to the point it needed throwing but it's always been available in the past, although it was broken the anyway. Since covid whenever we've been in we've noticed a completely lack of waiters, it's always just the one guy. One time it took 2.5 hours for our meals to come. Like I've said, it's just a massive lucky dip on what kind of service you're going to get and unfortunately the bad has now become so bad we'll not be back.

Taste was not so food and definitely not a authentic Indian taste. Servers and managers were annoying, felt pretty terrible. Toilets were not clean and ambiance was not good ( pretty suffocating). Overall, it would have been better.

Poor service just 1 man serving, couldn't understand what he was saying. Shouldn't be front of house.

Food tasted loverly staff was friendly got home ten minutes later to find are self on toilet with oxtail soup. Some thing was bad with food

We reviewed this restaurant last year when we were new to the area and it was better than average. Tried it a couple more times since and not been disappointed and so we recommended it for a big family takeaway. The result was a great success - the food was great, staff were efficient and very friendly and the price compared favourably with local competition (except there is none!). The onion bhajis were universally popular and the chicken dansak, chicken tikka, vegetable methi, saag balti and bombay aloo were all spot on. All in all this is definitely worth a recommendation and we shall be using it more often in future.

Ordered a delivery, it was late. I ordered a chicken tika balti, but I don't know what I received it was like no other balti I've had before. My wife ordered a keema curry but received a portion of curry sauce with no meat. The mixed tandoori starter was tasteless. All in all very average.

We ordered take away from here as our usual is Mangla in Pitsmoor or if we pick up it’s from Akbars in Rotherham. As Mangla were not answering the phone (not unusual), we tried Bayleaves. If you are used to Mangla or Akbars then please don’t order from here. It arrived quickly etc, but it was disappointing. There is no depth of flavour at all. We have saag, madras and biryani and they were all very bland. In fact the madras was like soup. I love to support local businesses so am sad I can’t on this occasion. I’m not questioning the quality of the food at all - it was good quality. For us it was the depth of flavour - if you usually go to mangla you’ll know what I mean. Whilst it wasn’t a bad meal, it wasn’t what we expect from an Indian meal and we won’t go again

Well what can I say talk about support your local business, we visited this evening for my son's birthday, food wasn't good and they ripped us off we paid a deposit which was £65, so we had a party of 9, four people couldn't make it due to covid the restaurant was empty but he still only gave us £30 from our £65 deposit and squashed 9 people on two small tables. times are hard we couldn't believe the owner of this restaurant we will never walk through the door again

The food is absolutely amazing, as well as reasonably priced. The staff are great, very hospitable and are willing to go the extra mile! Thanks so much, will be back!

Being new to the area, but definitely not to Indian food, I tried a takeaway meal from Bayleaves. The food was good and tasty - onion bhajis could have benefitted from draining some of the ghee off and the dansac sauce was just a little thin - but I shall definitely eat there again.

The food here is a step above the usual. The restaurant is usually very quiet, and I don’t know why. For quality of food, service and value for money I strongly recommend. 👍🏻

Not tried here in yrs so thought i'd see how it was doing , order was an hr and half late so everything had to be re-heated making the chips and naan bread hard and not really edible , i ordered a balti it was more like a chinese curry , mrs had a dopiaza , she left it , so all in all not good , will not be ordering again from here.

Stunning food, been coming here for 20 years & it’s by far the best in the S35 area of Sheffield for several miles. The food is freshly cooked, tasty, hot & big portion sizes. Pricier than some other Indians nearby but you get what you pay for, wouldn’t go anywhere else.

I had a lovely meal with my family. The meal I got was chicken gosht with rice whilst my husband got chicken jalfrazi with garlic naan and it was superb! My kids also loved their meals. The staff are very hardworking and professional, which was nice to see & the atmosphere is clean and cosy. I would definitely go and visit again!

no waiters.just the owner winging it and going it "alone" drinks overpriced in bottle form only.no draught. starters ok.as was pappadoms and pickles. main meal. both looked same. no flavour or infusion of spices. arrived too fast to be cooked fresh. portion size . seen bigger childs portions. basically 3 small pieces of boiled chicken in a peppery thin watery gravy...deffo a processed generic curry sauce from local cash and carry... one sauce fits all by the looks. charged for water.despite spending £10 on alcohol and £50 plus on food. no napkins/serviettes..had to demand them. no cutlery for main course.again had to ask...but wait ...there was no waiters.. food was cold before i got knife and fork. payment time...asked for cash but gave no reciept..GO FIGURE. How this place stays open is beyond me?? never again.

Been here twice now to dine in, in the last few month and both times was a plesent experience! Staff really friendly, polite and welcoming! Food both times have been delicious!

Great place for classic cuisine!

Went into the restaurant for a meal tonight (June 2021) and it was absolutely gorgeous. Excellent service, beautiful food, fair prices. Don't let covid put you off going out.

Had a great meal this evening with family and my eldest boys friends. Starters and mains were lovely. Quiet but the staff were very polite. Got some extra starters on the house. Worth a visit and really happy we have this restaurant within walking distance. Cobra pretty good aswell.

I went for a takeaway Christmas eve.ive eaten chicken massala so many times.4 off us tried the massala sauce.100% not made fresh on the premises.it was embarrassing.im not one to complain but i rang the restaurant and explained to them about the very poor quality.the chef came to the phone and was very agressive. Please dont disrespect your customers by serving CHEAP sauce from a jar.we know the difference.

Highly recomend this place, weve eaten in before and tonight we've just had a delivery service, the food was 1st class absolutly delicious , and the can of carling which was complimentary was an added bonus , thank you for that. Also the delivery man was very friendly and polite . First class all round thank you bayleaves .

Today my husband visted this restautant and was allowed to not only go in the kitchen but to dine inside even tho its against goverent guidelines, i called up and complained and he said it was ok where allowed to open now as a key worker who has had to work through this pandemic am pretty disgusted as i know the date for restaurants opening is the 4th of july

I can say hands down one of the best hidden gems in Sheffield. Delightful and affordable food. The currys have such a mix of flavours which is perfect for the palate. Personally, I would not rate this restaurant any lower since it's just spectacular. The service is also great for a family. The restaurant has such a loving community and atmosphere its just great!

I quiet fancied a curry and thought about trying bay leaves as I hadn't been or ordederd a take away from here for a few years. I can honestly say I won't be ordering from here again, the food is terrible.The mint yogurt has more water than a bottle of Volvic.The meat is rough and tough. I very much doubt it has been cooked from fresh or even if the lamb us actually lamb, more like mutton.The curries are tasteless, bland and have no spice, and the meat is diced in to cubes. Handley a mouthwatering like a curry should be.The Chapatti and nans are not cooked throughly, very doughey in the middle.Next time I'll be going back to Jamaria Spice, the best takeaway in Sheffield by far. I'm sorry for trying somewhere as terrible as Bay Leaves. Stay well clear.

Buen servicio Tuve un curry de pescado que realmente me gustó.

Este es un restaurante indio que ofrece un menú para llevar. . . . ¡sin duda no es la calidad del restaurante, ni siquiera la calidad para llevar! Muy caro, porciones pequeñas y sin sabor! Pedimos 5 cosas diferentes y cada una estaba muy seca, sabía a viejo y sin sabor. No lo recomiendo y no volveré a ordenar desde aquí.

The food is amazing and worth it's price. I would go there again without any hesitation. All the negative feedback is absolutely false and inaccurate. Anyone that's reading this, go to this lovely restaurant and have a great experience.

Llegó alrededor de las 19. 30 para encontrar solo una pareja, ordenó nuestras bebidas y entrantes. La comida estaba caliente y sabrosa, pero nos faltaba un poco de especias. Decidimos darnos un capricho para una comida en lugar de cocinar. He visitado Bayleaves varias veces, así que sabía que obtendríamos una buena comida. Nos sentamos rápidamente y nuestra orden tomada. La comida, como siempre, era hermosa, comí pollo Malaya y mi compañero comió Akbar Chicken sag, ambas comidas se cocinaron a la perfección. Todo el personal era amable y servicial. Shocking service, food sub standard staff unprofessional, will not return we felt uncomfortable throughout our service I would not be surprised if this place was not closed down very soon,avoid at all costs

Ordered food tonight, been going here for years and never had a problem always Recommended to friends and family the food was greasy I found three black hairs in my food my order wasn't all there what curry house runs out of poppadoms. The salad was brown the chicken was still pink. Unfortunately I won't be a returning customer this was disgusting and a waste of money as all my order went straight to the bin where it belonged.

Llegamos al restaurante y nos sorprendió la falta de ambiente para un sábado por la noche, posiblemente debido a que no había nadie más allí. Still the best Indian restaurant in Sheffield that no one knows about

We arrived at the restaurant and were stunned by the lack of atmosphere for a Saturday evening, possibly caused by there being no one else in there. Later on a couple of tables were filled which made it feel less awkward. Things seemed to be going well when we got our drinks and pickle trays, no hitches. Then when we ordered our mains, again, things seemed to be going well. After a fair amount of waiting, we were glad to finally see the kitchen door swing open and hear that sizzling sound often associated with a hot tandoori mixed grill, of which we’d ordered 4 and also a Vegetable Bhuna. Out came the naans, out came a tandoori mixed grill and out came the Bhuna. The two that had their meals started tucking in, while the rest of us were nibbling on our naans in anticipation of our meals. We started to get a bit restless after a good 10 mins had passed and still no sign of the other 3 meals. We waited patiently as we could see it was a small place and being Saturday they may be busy with their online orders. It wasn’t until the waiter came and asked us how our meal was that we realised something had gone a rye. The waiter did not realise we had no food to eat and made a sharp turn into the kitchen. Moments later he reappeared with the chef who informed us that he only had enough ingredients to make “one or two” mixed grill, we asked which it was ... one or two? You know because we had three missing ones. So there we were, two meals down and we were now ordering our main meals again. One of the replacement dishes came out almost instantly. So we sat and watched them eat that, then the mixed grill came out (I had won the coin toss to have that) so everyone watched me eat that. Then the final meal came out and we sat and watched our friend eat that. It was good in a way that we finally got the chance to individually watch our friends eat their meals and really take it all in, as an experience. However, I would have preferred if we all ate at the same time. We thought we were at least onto a winner as surely we would get a discount from the bill for such a shambles. However, no discount when the bill came. We approached the staff to request one, of which the manager would only agree to a £5 discount from the £127 bill. Felt sorry for the staff working there as it looked as though the restaurant is out of its depth and this was just a normal night of calamities for them. If it wasn’t for the company I was with then this would have been a disaster.

Served up 2 out of 5 meals and then asked us if we are enjoying our meals ten mins later without acknowledging that only 40 percent of our group had food as if we wouldn’t notice! Then we’re told they only had enoug to make 1 or 2 more mixed grills! Well which is it?! It turned out to be one. All the source bland and food average the chef going through the motions and can’t count. Only 5 English pounds knocked off our 125 pound bill what a disgrace no wonder this place with 6 tables has been two thirds empty since we arrived. Got any booze for baby!? Yes at 4.50 a bottle and no discount for mis counting the meat.. feel sorry for the two young waiters who’s night shift Neville’s apologising a thousand times. Time to a get a job down the local ladbrookes.

Nos quejamos y nos dijeron que no había posibilidad de un descuento por parte del rencoroso propietario.

Genuinely unsure how this place is open for business. The waiter and waitress were embarrassed at the attitude of the owner/chef. The food was a disgrace, food didn't arrive together. Naan breads first, 10 mins later 2 main courses. Then we had to re order three meals as they'd run out of the food for other orders despite the restaurant having no one in there. We complained and we're told there was no chance of a discount by the very rude dismissive owner. Basically, take your money elsewhere, this place was so bad you had to laugh as you watched calamity after calamity unfold. But if I want a laugh I'll go to watch a comedian in future not give these jokers any more of my yankee dollar.

Fui aquí con un gran grupo de amigos. Todos habíamos pedido con antelación nuestra comida, así que esperamos una gran noche. En primer lugar, se sirvió a nuestros poppadoms sin ningún plato para comerlos. Antes de que tuviéramos la oportunidad de comenzar los poppadoms nuestros titulares llegaron en cuestión de segundos. Las comidas de las personas se servían de forma desordenada sin coordinación, por lo que algunas personas tenían curry pero tenían que esperar años para comer arroz y nan. Mi arroz nunca llegó a pesar de preguntar. Esfuerzo desquiciado de un restaurante que obviamente no puede manejar una gran cantidad de invitados. Yo no voy a volver.

Me and my other half came here friday night, this place is a bit of a traditional hidden gem, great staff/service and the food was superb with lots of flavour at a very reasonable price. We will be back 100%

Me and my partner decided to go here for a meal, what a lovely place it is. The staff are very welcoming and attentive to your needs. The food is amazing one of the best curries I have had. Overall the evening was brilliant.

Realmente fantástico, una buena comida de calidad. Las zonas de personal, son un crédito para el negocio. Con mi estado peligrosamente próxima a 1 años y a pesar de su ser desafiante, era notable en todo momento y nos hicieron sentir bienvenidos. No recomiendo lo suficiente. La comida es muy buena, sin embargo la oferta anunciada fuera sólo para llevar, aunque no está claro y el plato de hígado no estaba disponible y sospecho que raramente si alguna vez es. Tienen algunos platos diferentes que vale la pena probar. El servicio era rápido, pero había una cosa extraña cuando el camarero nos dijo que sólo un recibo de tarjeta de débito había impreso y él gustaría guardar para sus registros, una vez insistí que quería la consultaron con el propietario y se convirtió en problema y la recepción fue aprobada. Este incidente extraño no dejaría volver porque, aunque no es barato la comida merecía la pena.

Probably the best Indian takeaway we've had From the bhajis to the curry all were stunning. Definitely our first choice for takeaway next time.
