Deserves more than 4 star I am very local practically on my door step I visit this restaurant regularly with friends and family the food here is absolutely delicious Friendly staff at all times My favourite is the huge size beef and ale pie that takes up half the plate served with mash potatoe , veggies and rich gravy The apple pie and custard is also my favourite Five stars 🌟 ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ from me , my friends and family

Arrived at the battleaxes to a very friendly and warm welcome the food was delicious we had sea bass and my friend had a rump steak cooked perfectly we were even told to try the beef croquettes that tasted amazing the service was great and a special mention for Lilly Charlie and Mandy

The service was exemplary by Alex he was so friendly and welcoming to us and the food was brilliant I had the peach and Brie salad, my brother had the halibut we asked for a few additional sides when the food arrived and it was no problem at all and no wait either !!! we will definitely be coming back and recommending to our friends

Went a few weeks ago with friends and a child. Service was pretty poor. Asked for things and they didn’t come. Asked for outdoor heating lamps to be put on, had to go back into restaurant only to be told by a manger they don’t work (but the waitress never came back to tell us that). Food took such a long time and was quite disappointing for the price. Ordered food that didn’t come and was told by the manager they didn’t put it through despite me asking when ordering… no apology from her or anything. Strange experience. Wouldn’t go back

The food was amazing along with the atmosphere, but our server donna was incredible made us feel so at home and attended to our every need and made the whole experience very enjoyable.

What a cracking Sunday dinner. Three of us had the Rib of beef which was delicious. Service by Donna was first class. We will definitely come again.

It's a shame this is the third time we've been, and we had an awful experience with a view of walking out before eating. Firstly the cocktails we ordered were not as described - they came in a standard coke/juice glass with no garnishes (as described on the menu) and when we asked if they were the correct drinks, we were told by the person who looked like the manager, that the garnish was just rosemary and we were better off without it! Secondly after waiting for an hour after starters, we tried to call the waitress and she thought we wanted the bill - clearly not paying attention to our table (meanwhile other couples/families had come and gone at this point). Turns out our food must have been sitting and waiting as it came out 10 mins later and was semi warm. Overall it was not pleasant and a shame as we had brought family from abroad to enjoy a pub lunch. Will think twice about going here again.

We were greeted by a wonderful lady called Mandy who escorted us to our table and provided really great customer survive. Nothing was too much to ask, and she was a friendly lady. Her daughter Jade is head chef and executed wonderful food for us all to enjoy. The pulled chicken croquettes were so good and the burgers, steaks and mushroom and ale pie were of good quality. The deserts were also very good, with ice cream being sourced from a local dairy farm specifically for the restaurant. We will defiantly go back again, perhaps in the summer when we can enjoy their lovely beer garden which seats up to 100 people.

This is my favourite pub in North West London. Sunday roast is supberb, I love the beef. The staff are amazing here. Has a super family feel and they are so welcoming and accommodating. Our dog Lola is always well looked after. I have been a regular here for many years. Such a great place

We are fairly regular visitors to this lovely little establishment , so when we got through an email advising us of their new Spring menu, we booked to go out with our friends for a Friday night treat. A treat it was indeed. Our friends had the steak , and the Garden plot menu with Butternut Squash, and we had the Chicken Duo and the Lamb Shank Shepherds Pie. I was certainly not the only one to order the Lamb Shank Shepherds Pie, it was certainly a popular choice ! All was cooked beautifully and very tasty, and we were served by a lovely new recruit , Lily, only her 3rd night, and she couldn’t have been more helpful. The small trifle and hot drink was also much enjoyed by the men in the party, and the sticky toffee pudding remains a favourite of mine. Great little place, welcoming and efficient staff, a very enjoyable evening, would happily recommend.

been a regular customer here for 10 years and have never had a bad meal . Mandy and her team are always welcoming. My partner enjoys the steaks which are always of good quality and cooked as requested. I like to choose different meals off the main menus and specials the sea bass and seared scallops is a favourite of mine. the quality of food and service here are always of a good standard at reasonable prices i highly recommend

Sirloin Steak very chewy and fatty veg cold and looked days old not nice to eat starter was cold chicken strips the food has gone down hill over the last year when said about it was told it’s our best chef?

My wife and I were visiting with new friends. She ordered veg curry, which was barely warm, poor presentation and dry naan bread! I ordered steak and ale pie. This was abysmal ….. cold, poorly cooked and poorly presented. My wife left half of her meal and I left three quarters of mine ! We did not complain at the time because we were with new friends but when the staff removed our plates they didnot ask if we’d enjoyed the meals or if there was a problem. Overall a waste of money and time. A location to be avoided!!!

We have had a few meals in this pub now and I can honestly say I love eating here, the staff are excellent, the food is lovely, it's never over packed but there's a great atmosphere, the tables aren't to close together so you're rubbing elbows with people, they always make sure we have a ground floor table due to disabilities, nothing seems to much trouble for them, you're always made to feel welcome.

We have been going to this Public House for many years and have always had a good experience. The food and service are very good. It is set in a nice location with a large outdoor seating area where in the summer one view the light aircraft flying from Elstree Airdrome. Has a large carpark with easy Access for those less able. You can also use your Tesco Club Vouchers off of meals.

Clean, bright,cheery yet relaxed - and that's just the staff. Plus , which is always a bonus- 5 star washroom! Oh and the food is first class, I had the salmon- recommended.

We visited this restaurant last night at 5pm after pre booking and pre ordering. The restaurant was quiet when we arrived. On arrival we waited to be seated where one particular waiter walked past us twice before eventually coming over. He was miserable. During the entire meal we didn't get any kind of conversation out of him let alone a smile. His shirt was not ironed and he just looked unkempt. He obviously just didn't want to be at work, I get that Christmas is a busy time of year but if you are in a customer facing job you really need some interpersonal skills. That said the food was lovely. We never usually have any issues with this restaurant so hoping this is just a one off.

Karen and her team were absolutely brilliant. Christmas Day dinner was served on time and exactly as described. Dinner was hot and tasty. Staff friendly and beautiful atmosphere. An absolutely wonderful place. Mandy and the team are so friendly and welcoming, the food is always delicious and very reasonably priced, and the service is always great, professional and friendly. We come here from french and always on Xmas day if we’re not hosting, and it’s such a lovely experience that we wouldn’t want to go anywhere else. Also a lovely building in the countryside with a good sized garden. A fantastic place to go for a meal or drinks with friends or family.

This was an awful experience. Staff was not particularly welcoming (and clearly poorly trained) and the food was terrible. All we had was a winter soup (butternut squash and sweet potatoes) which was watery and had no flavour at all. This was served with bread that was equally tasteless. We then ordered a dessert to share - a chocolate and orange tart, part of their festive menu - which was literally inedible. This was supposed to be served with a 'strawberry coulis' which turned out to be dots of what looked like jelly on the plate. Absolutely horrendous! My friend told the waitress very diplomatically that we hadn't been able to eat the dessert and the response we had was 'I'm sorry about that'! Will never go and eat there again and would not recommend it to anyone.

Worst Xmas lunch ever. Arrived about 2 mins. after ordering, obviously re heated in microwave, everything was over cooked. Sprouts were disgusting.

I had lunch at Battle Axes with a friend. Not only was the food of a high standard but our waiter Richard was very attentive and made us feel very welcome.

I visited today with my parents, cousins. Extremely friendly, warming, helpful. Jade our server was lovely, friendly, polite, food was excellent, l had the garlic mushrooms on a crumpet. New menu, different very tasty. Two of my party had the Gammon, which was tender, plus not too salty, reasonable size portions at reasonable prices. The remaining party had the fish and chips, again reasonable portion, reasonable prices, lovely garden area, which lies on the edge of the local airfield, which visit again and would highly recommend

The staff were all friendly and helpful, the food was fine, the sticky toffee pudding was the best I ever had, and I’ve had quite a few! Overall very good.

Food was lovely but the service was dreadful. One guy was running around whilst the rest of the staff seemed to be doing not much at all. Waited 15 minutes for the bil then had to go up and pay. It wasn’t busy 3 tables inside and 7 out. I think the manager needs to be on the floor and actually manage the restaurant!

Visited after months in lockdown for our friends birthday. Ladies that were serving us were so nice and helpful (I am rubbish with names.. they were both blonde and sweet). They agreed to sing a little happy birthday to our friend. Food arrived relatively quickly and it was lovely. We used to be regulars at this place before the world went nuts and it didn’t change much (face masks, one way system etc). It’s a charming and atmospheric pub, food is decent and staff are lovely. We will definitely come back again :)

We visited the Battleaxes for a Sunday roast, after not having visited in over 5 years! We were greeted with a warm welcome and seated very swiftly. Our server explained the Covid rules to us and was super friendly. The roast itself was delicious. We would’ve liked perhaps a mini side jug to pour our own gravy as our Yorkie was left out!!! Minor complaint though . It was delicious!

My first visit to a restaurant with friends since lockdown and a thoroughly enjoyable experience. This was also the last restaurant I went to before lockdown. A very friendly and professional welcome from the management with all safety and health restrictions in place.A delicious meal and impeccable service as usual. Tables were well spaced out and we could all chat without annoying background music. Wonderful service from young Jade and couldn't find fault with anything. In and out in 2 hours. Can't wait to go back very soon.

Great to be back after lockdown. Felt safe and the COVID precautions were clear and working. Our server Jade was really great; she gets things right every time. New menu too - the hake reminded me of trips to Spain.

Food was amazing no faults whatsoever. Staff were amazing to. Only fault is making sure all staff are wearing face masks at all times, A short lady with black curly hair was not wearing a face mask. Everything was fantastic otherwise.

We chose the Battle Axes for our first post lockdown meal as felt would do a good job with the regulations and we right. They did brilliant job right from when we arrived until we left. The service was great and the menu gave us plenty of choice I had the prime burger and my wife had the scampi and chips both of which were very good

I’ve been to the battle axes a few times, but since lockdown and having a newborn in April we (like most) have been very housebound. We booked for a lunch, to be surprised by the Christmas decorations and festivity! Every inch of the pub restaurant has been clearly carefully decorated, giving that warm festive feel; lights, a tree and of course crackling fires! As you enter there is a lovely board, welcoming you into the festive journey you are now embarking on. Staff, as always, were more than pleasant and attentive. They gave good clear guidance on how to adhere to COVID guidelines and made me and my family feel safe.The food was terrific as always! The mussels are a must! And we also enjoyed the mulled wine Mandy and the team had to offer. We had a fantastic time and will be returning soon!Thankyou Mandy and your team, for your continuing hard work, it’s very much appreciated.

The Battleaxes has been getting better and better, the Covid protocol is the best I have seen. The food is excellent and very good value. The management know what they are doing and do it very well. The menu is extensive which suits our Charity when we are here with people on a budget. Exceptional , I have been in hospitality all my life and think I know what I am talking about!!

Good food, lovely staff but only an ‘hour and a half’ table time is disappointing and just maybe this could be pointed out at the time of booking.

On arrival we wore our face masks and was greeted by a young lady with no mask who ran us through the covid nonsense and then showed us to our table in a room with other people sat not so far away yet the other room was completely empty so we asked to be moved which an older female member of staff said “no the other tables are booked” I reminded her that we also booked as well.was the tables reserved for particular people?? She moved us.Once seated this particular older member of staff came to take our drinks order and because it’s table service and at times through experience it can take time to get get drinks I ordered two which to her disgust she turned and said “are you questioning my ability to serve drinks”To which I replied “if I want two drinks I’ll have two drinks”She then replied “is this table going to be a problem”I said “that depends on the service”(She was not wearing a mask)Thankfully she did not continue to serve us.Waitress no2Very nice girl very well mannered couldn’t do enough for us hence she got a good tipThe foodVery basic the king prawn starter not great the prawns were cold supposed to be pan fried did not seem like they had touched a pan.The lamb shoulder had so much fat on it that to be honest could have been removed before serving it was that obvious it was like I was giving my dinner an hysterectomy never was it slow cooked otherwise it would have fell apart broccoli was cold and under cooked al dent’e was an under statement.Dessert was bog standard you can hardly get that wrong,Over all we are foodies and enjoy eating out and know a decent meal when we have one but the food was not good for the cost £16 for a small piece of fatty lamb shoulder another few quid I could of had a decent steak at miller&carter which was were we should have gone and will go next time.I’ve only given three stars because of the younger waitress The food and quality of produce is below standard.

I still take my hat off to the staff here, they are still going strong with all the covid rules, although some dont like the rules, I think.they have it right here, they are trying to keep all safe, we had a great lamb and Turkey roast, and had to share a pub because we where too full, keep up the great work guys

Had a lovely lunch here. The food and service were outstanding. Generous and good quality food provided. Fabulous Covid precautions with hand gel, single use menus and one in one out at the WC. The music in the background could have been selected from my record collection!

We’ve been coming to this pub for a few years now and the staff have always been lovely and the food has been great. A nice cosy pub to settle down and relax.

Ordered prawn cocktail starter. It said king prawns but they were not, a quarter of the size. Not a good start. Main course chicken and mushroom pie. Two small pieces of chicken in the pie, totally inadequate. The mash potato had a skin on it because it had been sitting on the plate for ages before serving, veg tasteless. The only plus side was their handling of covid restrictions. I never complain at the time because the restaurant and staff should be up to speed, so not thinking of what they serve to their customers.

Went today sunday 29th found the service by Richard was very good. The lunch we had beef rib was incredible melt in the mouth and vegetables good. The roasties weren't how I do mine as they were bit greasy but ok. The sticky toffee was ice cream was gorgeous and light. Highly recommend Battle Axes we will be back

A lovely country pub with great food and drinks. We felt very safe when we visited. Everything was clearly explained before sitting, table service was great, hand sanitiser is everywhere and all tables were well spaced. Essentially it’s run like a military operation and we really appreciated the effort all staff put in to keeping everybody safe. I’ve been to several places now since restrictions were lifted and this is by far the best For Covid safety. Special thanks to Carly & Lucy for table service and drinks. And Connie who was working extremely hard on her cleaning duties, even the chairs were wiped down

Was down this way today to visit Bows Boutique () and wanted to make a day of it so booked to go for lunch here. Booked table to allow for traffic and going to the shop but we got to the pub an hour early and they managed to fit us in and even better in the stunning garden area. Food was lovely, staff were very welcoming and friendly and the pub is situated in a stunning location. You could tell I wasn't a local because I was watching the planes go over Even during the current situation, they had lots of measures in place such as hand sanitiser stations, one way system, ordering via the app (if you preferred) and allowing set times for your stay. My mum and I had a lovely sunny early lunch and we will be returning.

We visited the Battle Axes last week whilst we were staying at a near local glamping site. It came out like one of the closest oubs around so we decided to give it a go..The pub has a nice and cozy interiors with a lot of space and atmosphere. The precautions for Covid were top notch with social distancing, one way systems and so on - well done for this!We got greeted by Richard, he was brilliant, very nice guy and super helpful.We had some sweet potato kofta for startes which arrived promptly, I loved those bites. Richard suggested us some nice Spritz which we agreed and they were great. I had the chicken burger, I loved the bun, the filling was great and the chicken was full of flavors and crispy! The chips were ace too, especially combined with those sauces. I didn't had a chance to try the onion rings as they were finished but I'm sure they must have been amazing. Instead I had some salad which was still good. Overall it was an amazing experience with the great customer service of Richardm the dishes served perfectly on time and the nice atmosphere inside the pub, all the staff seems ace.I will be back, I saw some very nice Sunday Roast - who's gonna resist?

Carly the other evening was absolutely fantastic. We had some special requests and were a bit difficult to be fair, and she served us with a smile and humour, and it was just fab. It's many years since I've been at the Battle Axes and I was thrilled at how great our lunch was. All precautions are clearly being taken very seriously around cleanliness etc and the food was absolutely delicious. Mandy, Karen and Lucy (could have been Lisa - apologies!) were all wonderful and we all - including the toddler! - had a great lunch. Definitely won't leave it so long until the next visit!

So came for our Sunday dinner, as we have been coming for years, would like to say a massive thank you to all staff. I am a very picky eater. If something is wrong I’ve always told a member of staff. I’ve nevevr been let down. Unrecognised or been over ignored, by any member of staff. We came here after visiting a horrible pub the previous week. We were celebrating our anniversary. The food was lovely the squid was fresh and the mixed grill perfectly cooked. The portion sizes are very generous and the price of the food is very good value. The service was very friendly and relaxed and we were not kept waiting long for food. We will certainly be returning. We popped in, after a long walk with the dog, and sat in the picturest garden, they are really still on top of the safety measures here and that's why we like coming, and they even do dog ice cream brilliant, we love the fact that you can take your pets here and be safe, well done mandy and karen and the rest of the team, we will be back

We visited here over the weekend, and its the place to go, if you want a safe friendly, and homely feel, the staff are always friendly and the food is alway good, hats off to the management, for keeping to the strick rules of covid and trying to keep everyone safe, although I could see some customers, trying to think they are above the rules and the staff quickly explained the rules again, clearly some people you cant help, but the staff just keep smiling. Well done to you all, not all heros wear capes

Lovely lunch out. Would deffo reccomend the stilton mushrooms on sourdough. Lucy was amazing. Really friendly and outgoing. Lovely to see "The Battle Axes" open again, social distancing measures, sanitiser stations all in place, but still the same lovely atmosphere, and good food. Mandy + team have worked hard, our waitress Jade was her usual friendly, helpful self, great service, thank you.
