I would not advise staying at this hotel. It was my first time staying here in an Imerial Suite and it is very dated. The bedrooms are falling apart, the furniture is old and creaky especially the floor and the bed. The mattress was so lumpy, I woke up with a stiff and painful back! It's not value for money for the rooms or the food. A portion of chips cost 8 pounds and they gave literally 8 pieces of chips, when the waiter was advised they bought out another portion with extra chips and charged again. Very disappointing. The spa is also very old, the Aroma Steam Room smells of damp and mould and we could not sit in it for more than 30 seconds. Not the kind of thing I would want to be inhaling. The room had a fan type of heating which caused a cough, the air didn't feel clean. The water from the taps was cold, every time I had to call reception for hot water. I would never stay at this hotel again, it was a waste of money!!! I'm disappointed we spent so much on this place!

What a poor management service. I’ve send a proper reservation email specifying the urgency due to the imminent weekend for a special occasion, and after writing everything carefully asking for precise infos, the manager in chargeof all enquiries and bookings, got back to me “ please call this other number ***** they will take care of this” . What is the point of having a email enquiry booking service then? And why a Manager couldn’t just send a client request to her own team ? Small details that makes customers understand the standards and attention towards your business.

Lovely stay, nice food, relaxing spa and massage. Only down side was the service at breakfast, no butter with the toast and it was cold by the time someone came back.

Attended a family wedding and was appalled how bad the service was. Bar was not stocked at all. The bar in evening was dreadful and next to the DJ so couldn’t hear any orders. Not enough chairs for the evening reception. Wedding Service had waters shouting service thought. Very disappointed as the venue was stunning. In the right management hands this venue could be amazing. We were even told we hadn’t paid to be in certain areas of the hotel and told to move. Discussed is an understatement!

The location of the hotel is excellent. The staff were great especially Anisha, she was lovely. We stayed here for four days. The rooms are huge but not clean. Cobwebs, stains on beds, walls, chipped sink and bathtub. We requested for a change of room the next day and we got a new one. It wasn't far better than the previous but it was manageable. On two occasions, we saw insects crawling on the floor of the bathroom. And now to the breakfast, it was poor. There is just a few selection on what to eat apart from the cereal. It always came dry and not presentable. The last day we had our breakfast, it was worst than the previous day. I took some pictures of that day's breakfast but I can't post it here. The cutleries are not properly cleaned. A breakfast buffet will be much better. The hotel needs more work done.

They somehow managed to spell the name on my wedding cake wrong and still unable to correct it after all these years. Great location and surrounding, it would be perfect if the rooms aren't so dated. The are broken tiles by the outdoor pool, horrendous smell in the ladies changing room. Lockers are in desperate needs of updating too.

If I could give this 0 stars, I would. Everything about this day was disappointing. Honestly don’t know how they can justify charging £300+ for a spa day here. We were greeted at the entrance to the spa with a dirty, wet sock. Not a good start. We had reservations for afternoon tea and were told by reception to head down a corridor and turn left, which took us into another empty corridor. We were aimlessly wandering around for a while before we found anyone to help. Service was so slow, despite only being one other couple there. The food was pitiful. £40 per person for some cucumber sandwiches, some dry scones with no cream (!!!) and some cake. The grounds were dirty with rubbish all over the courtyard. We were hopeful that our spa day would make up for it. Boy, were we wrong. We were handed robes that I don’t think would even fit a child. My partner, who is over 6 ft tall, had to leave his behind as it was comically small on him. The facilities were quite frankly disgusting (see images). It looked like they hadn’t been updated, or cleaned, for the past 40 years. There were tiles missing and falling off everywhere, which could be pretty dangerous in that kind of environment. The grout was filthy, there were scum lines around the pools and in the steam rooms, and even multiple dead flies in the windows on the way out to the outdoor pool. The ‘experience showers’ did not work and there was a bad smell in several of the the rooms. A group of very noisy children were playing in the main pool with inflatables, which is not something you’d expect from a 5 star hotel spa on a relaxing ‘spa day’. The treatments were ok at best, but we could not wait to get out of there. Tried to complain through the website but never received a response! Anyone looking for a relaxing spa day should avoid this place like the plague. There are better facilities down at my local leisure centre.

Visited last w/end with daughter as her treat to me. Receptionist ( with glasses) very pleasant and helpful. Dinner was average ( lamb overcooked) no wine pairings shown on menu given. although shown on menu in reception area. Breakfast very long wait for tea/coffee.not asked if preference for white/brown toast which was also very crisp. Full breakfast had issues, asked for for mushrooms and sausage to be omitted on one and just mushrooms on the other. However the egg was missing on one and no blackpudding as stated on menu and hash brown given not potato scone as advertised (and there is a difference) also not informed of alternatives. eg Eggs Benedict etc. Overall a very disappointing experience. Not worthy of a 5 star establishment. Sorry I!

We stayed in Bath Spa for 2 nights...we paid almost £250 per night but the experience was disgusting. To start with, wait time on reception to check in was ridiculous. When I spoke to the boy on the reception, he said we are short staff. The rooms are dated, THE BED is so broken and old that we had a back ache after sleeping in it for 2 nights. If you ask for water, they take so long to bring it to you as they are short of staff. The toilet pot had a crack and wash basin paint was coming off....disgusting. strongly advice people NOT TO BOOK IN A BREAKFAST ....it is sub standard...we ordered full english breakfast...the sausages were disgusting, they bought eggs and hash brown and didn't bring the any toast when we asked for toast it took them so long that my and my wife's eggs and Hash brown went stone cold. Really not worth the money we paid. PLEASE AVOID BOOKING THIS HOTEL AND STAY IN A PREMIER INN AT LEAST YOU WILL GET A GOOD BREAKFAST AND BETTER BED TO SLEEP INN.

The Macdonald Bath Spa hotel is in a beautiful location looking over the city and is not too far to walk to the central shops and restaurants. It is very impressive looking from the outside, and the Reception area was inviting with a lit fire and fresh flowers. Unfortunately the room we were given was very disappointing. The bathtub had large chips in the enamel and the curtains were frayed and ragged at the edges. There was also a suspicious looking stain on the wall by the bed. We asked to be moved to a different room, which we were. That room was better but it was still tired looking and not what we expected for a 5 star hotel. The hairdryer made a horrendous sound and smell while using and the heating element looked like it was going to blow up so we handed it in to Reception on check out. We didn't eat in the restaurant or get room service as the prices were eye watering so can't comment on that. The spa area is nice (we just used the pools) but like others say it looks a bit grimy and tired, with tiles off the walls etc. In general they need to use their profits to give the rooms and spa a makeover, otherwise I can't see how they're going to retain their 5 star rating.

The hotel is gorgeous in gorgeous location, spa is wonderful and staff very welcoming and accommodating The staff are trying their very best but it feels severely understaffed, especially during breakfast time. Hence the service does well and really tries, but it feels unfair as they have a lot of guests to deal with and only a few staff at hand.

Good food, very friendly staff, so professional and patient:)One gentleman, serving us in the restaurant (Italian I think is worth mentioning as he was super kind to me and my children, every morning welcoming us and making our breakfast such a wonderful experience 😀 Lady at the reception- Amisha( I think that was her name) and Ssam who is working in a Spa area, both helped us and made our stay an amazing experience!!!🤩I wish we had more special people like them around us for everyday, they work so hard to let us rest and relax 😀 I really recommend this hotel, 15 min walk from the centre of Bath, beautiful gardens and indoor spaces. I ate in the lounge and had a egg sandwich with a side portion of fries costing £15 for the sandwich, it was not what I was expecting I was not offered a choice of brown or white however the white bread that came was what can only be described as cheap! For £15 would a nice slice of sourdough would be to much to ask for??? The side salad on the menu was supposed to have a lemon dressing that was missing, asked fir some balsamic only to be told they had none the fries were cold and not crispy. I was so hungry that I ate the fries so couldn't really complain however for £7 it should be better.

The rooms are dirty and unhygienic. The service is very bad, the room is not cleaned well, leaving all the tissues used before behind. After realizing this we tried calling the reception, however they did not answer. We tried several times but they just wouldn’t answer. For breakfast we ordered the avocado toast with fried eggs. The egg was not cooked well and still had the whites of the egg raw. The utensils smelt like eggs and were not cleaned well. When we ordered hot almond milk, it came in a cup that still had food on the handle… disgusting. This only wasn’t it, when we ordered food the first day we came, it took almost an hour and a half to come. This alone sounds like a nightmare but there was still more. The spa was also one of the worst, the smell was strong chlorine, and there was hair and white things in the pool water. Honestly from the reviews, we expected the experience to be much better. What a shame.

We booked a one-night spa break as a first night away from our little ones. It was nearly impossible to get a hold of someone before we arrived. We had to call 10 times to finally speak with someone. Spa needs maintenance - tiles missing, looking a little worn, one of the two saunas not working. Spa treatment was lovely. Room a bit dated but has all facilities needed. Breakfast was horrific. The cooked vegan breakfast was cold, they forgot to add the extra bits we needed and the oat flat white was cold and with cow’s milk. Bath is an amazing city to visit, but we will be booking at another hotel next time. Value for money this hotel isn’t.

My husband and I booked a much needed 2 night indulgent spa break but were unable to go due to flu. We have tried and tried on numerous occasions at different times of the day and evening to speak to someone at the hotel and still, a week later, have not managed to do so. This is not a 5 star hotel. The location is excellent being only 10mins walk from the city centre. The spa area is in dire need of repair and refresh. It's the first time I have sat in a "wellness pool" only to leave because there were so many mosaic tiles missing/falling off that it was actually uncomfortable. The whole place had a feeling of needing a good clean too. Looks like no money is really being spent on the upkeep of this hotel and I'm guessing the last renovation was in the 90's. It's all looking old, shabby and tired. Staff at reception didn't really seem friendly or interested, but the staff at breakfast were very friendly and helpful. The way the breakfast is laid out and operates is also straight from the 90's. Shame really - it could be really nice, but we won't be returning in its current state.

Beautiful building and location but just a bit rough around the edges for it's star rating. Small things about the room were not quite up to standard like scratched and broken sink and the reception button on phone not working. Needs work on the building. staff need retraining on mass and retrained staff structures and systems. Pub food ok in a pub. Not at these prices. Methods of working just set them up to fail . The key jobs need quality appointments to recruite train and motivate staff. Eg one staff on the lounge always there not running off . I gave up ordering and walked off I waited 15 mins 3time no staff to be found it’s a joke. Good leaders in key roles could solve this over night. Building needs makeover and investment

A birthday weekend away in a fantastic hotel was marred by the frankly atrocious experience at breakfast. After waiting for a table, our breakfast order and coffee had still not arrived almost 45 minutes later. Upon enquiring with one of the hard-to-find staff, our food finally arrived, luke-warm and missing items. Again, no staff were around to bring this to their attention, so we finished and left. Upon mentioning this at check-out, we received the most lacklustre apology possible (I had already paid so presumably they were simply happy to simply take my money). This marred an otherwise enjoyable stay, and we will be staying elsewhere on future visits. Would not recommend.

BEWARE FAMILES WITH KIDS! First and foremost this place needs an upgrade in every inch of the facilities. Once you enter the building you can smell nice refreshing scent but that’s all. We booked 2 rooms for our stay but had to cut it short due to non profession ROOMS; Rooms have portable oil heaters, sink is cracked and faucets are broken. Windows are wooden and old, needs to be changed, cold breezes through. There is mold which is extremely dangerous for health yet they argue about the kids going into heated pool. Restaurant: Chairs in the restaurant are almost no sponge left. Breakfast was very poor and no taste. Pool and Spa Area; If your children are 16 and under they cannot go to heated pool! It’s company policy, they are claiming it’s not healthy for them and they might get into very very serious trouble! How so? We’ve been going to winter hotels for years and my kids were able to go into heated pools all the time. This hotel is the only one claiming it’s dangerous for kids under 16. Just 40 minutes away from this hotel there is a beautiful hotel called De Cere Tortworth Court a few ago my kids were able to go into heated pool and jakuzi there. Salt room smells like piss, the spa area is dirty and unclean. So to sum it up, the management at the Bath Spa Hotel tries to cover up their lack of management with unreasonable things. Won’t come back here not recommended to anyone. Total disappointment.

Unfortunately, my experience was far from great. The spa is tiny, almost laughably so, and didn’t live up to the expectations set by their marketing. The food? Well, let’s just say it cost more than a meal at the Marriott and tasted like leftovers. The Eggs Benedict was served cold (yes, cold!) with grey ham that looked like it was prepped the day before. Not appetizing in the slightest. I couldn’t help but wonder if they thought it was a joke. Overall, the price doesn’t match the quality. Save yourself the disappointment and head somewhere else!

Visited for a spa day. Checked in & went to breakfast, which was expensive (£20 continental or £26 for full English plus continental) but was very nice (it is a 5* hotel, so to be expected). Spa area is small, but well equipt. Small pool, outdoor thermae pool (nice temperature), steam, sauna, salt rooms (not sure if this was working or not!) & ice room (plus there was another room which was closed). Gym downstairs. Treatment rooms downstairs, along with a chill out room to use after treatment. As part of our package we had a 25 min treatment (back massage & body scrub), really good, wished it was longer. Went to the restaurant for lunch, again nice food, but expensive. Can either have food as part of your spa day package or have something from the lunch menu. Overall a really nice place for a spa day. Would go back.

Went for 2024 NYE gala dinner and stay which was VERY expensive - room was lovely but no choice of dinner - was just served beef, would have expected a choice or pre order at least. Was very shocked at cost of drinks throughout night but even more shocked when they decided to add a HUGE service charge onto drinks bill - we had already paid nearly £600 for the dinner and one night stay which is enough without adding additional Costs to “serve” us! We declined to pay this obviously. Then breakfast - what a disaster that was . No menu - only hot option was full breakfast, wrong order several times, long wait for everything - especially coffee we had to ask 3 times before it arrived after 20mins - even though restaurant wasn’t busy but best of all staff and management constantly arguing and shouting at each other - was like a scene from Faulty Towers ! Not what you would expect from hotel of this standard. Wouldn’t return which is a shame because it’s a beautiful hotel. On checkout there was a lady arguing that they were trying to massively over charge her for a room! Seems it’s all about milking the clients for every last Penny here !

Whilst we found the spa to be ok, unfortunately it was nowhere near what we expected from a 5 star hotel. The toilet lock in the men's changing room was broken and the toilet was completely blocked. One shower and toilet was also out of order in the ladies. Just all felt very cramped and I really don't know what the justification is for a £5 key card deposit. Nothing within the spa felt premium and just didn't seem that clean or well thought out. Some of the facilities were out of order and there were not enough beds by the pool. There were a severe lack of water stations around the spa. Although pools of water on the floor which caused soggy slippers It was also a bit worrying to hear one of the staff say to a member that a few of the staff members had the 'lurgy' . Being around staff who were coughing and spluttering in a wellbeing centre wasn't ideal and off-putting . The service and the welcome in general was not what we would expect from a 5 star hotel. The massage was good but after being told to rehydrate in the relaxation room, I discovered that the water station in there was empty and there were no tea bags. Afternoon tea was very poor. The scones were nice but the sandwiches and desserts were dreadful. There was no spoon or sugar on the table which is quite important for afternoon tea. My wife asked for a glass of water which never arrived. We overheard other people having similar issues with the service. The experience was for my wife's birthday. Whilst we made the most of it, it is fair to say that it was very disappointing and underwhelming. Shame really, with a bit of TLC I feel the place has so much more to offer.

Unfortunately I have some negatives which is not like me. However I feel strongly about it so I decided I would write it. I took my mum away to Bath as a special treat. The hotel on arrival looked lovely and decorated amazing for Christmas. We decided to have a spa treatment, a foot and leg massage for 25 minutes. I was called in about 3 minutes passed the hour and I was told what to expect etc. Thos would at least be till 5 past the hour. We were just getting into it and it was over, I couldn't believe it. She left the room at 15 minutes past. So the treatment wasn't even 15 minutes long and not great at all. We paid £59 for it. I told the manager and she did give us some money back but we still paid £48 pounds each. I thought it was terrible as i have had other massages that were brilliant. This was seriously terrible. The hotel was very tired and all the doors had brown stains at the point you push the door open. The service was incredibly slow and we had to keep asking for silly things as like a spoon or milk for coffee at breakfast. Everyone seemed to be asking for things and the waiters never came back ir forget about it. It was a bit of a shame really because we were really looking forward to it so much. Bath itself was beautiful and we enjoyed our day trips out. But it's really put me off staying at this hotel again.

Stunning building and grounds but not well maintained nor thoroughly cleaned. A few of the staff were excellent but most were awful. The checkin time on the website and our reservation said 3pm, however, on arrival we were told it was guaranteed check in at 3:30pm. Despite trying to check in at 3:30pm (half an hour later than the advertised check in time). We were told that I room was not ready and we could not check, we asked if we get some form of discount but the staff member just said they were not authorised to offer it and complained about the place being at full occupancy. The spa times we had booked were then both 4pm, however, when arriving at the spa we were informed one was at 3pm and one was at 4pm. However, we checked the confirmation and that was not the times we booked. We had booked both at 4pm. The spa reception also told us that we should use our rooms towels and robes when we arrived, and we had to ask the spa to provide us with spa towels and robes instead of going back to our room to get those towels and robes. We also had 3 sets of cutlery given to us that were dirty, and had to request our toast for breakfast 4 times before we received any.

So grateful for making my boyfriend’s birthday stay so wonderful. The staff were so friendly and approachable. Definitely make sure to get a spa treatment, as it was so relaxing too.

Myself and my husband visited the spa today on an experience day. The reception area was lovely and all the staff were really nice but that was about it. Entering the changing rooms which was very small with 1 very small private changing room. Taps in the toilet area were leaking when switched on. Shower was ok but doors to the shower didn't lock. Going into the spa area, the indoor pool was ok but very cold. We went into the outdoor pool which was meant to be warm, it wasn't, it was really cold. The steam room had seen better days, small tiles missing from seating and wall. Small tiles on the floor inside which I stepped on and cut my foot. The salt room didn't seem to be working either. The whole spa area was very crowded, people were talking and messing about in the saunas which was very annoying when your trying to relax and unwind. Our treatments (shoulder, back and kneck massage) was very rushed. We were then taken to the relaxation room where we had to help ourselves to hot drinks and water. This was also a let down. No hot water and no tea bags, I had to go to reception to ask for this. Hot water was brought through but no fruit teas. After 20mins I gave up and decided to not go back to the spa or have our lunch at the hotel, we left and went to therma bath spa instead where we had a much more relaxing experience. The whole spa area is so run down and needs some serious attention.

Nearly 5 star for us! What we liked (which was a lot!) Location, set in some stunning grounds, really gets the wow factor on the drive in, nice water features beautiful trees, so nice! Then just a 15-20 min walk to the town which is literally a straight walk, so simple too, it’s a great location. Parking is great and EV chargers also (about 50p per kilowatt to charge at time Oct 24 and easy availability) these are within car park. Spa - saw lots of complaints about the spa in reviews, but looked at the thermae spa and guests could only use that for short restricted times that would not fit around us. We really liked the spa, yes some parts could do with freshening up, but nothing all that bad, hydra pool was so lovely and hot and jets were decent. Sauna lovely and hot as needed. Loved the steam room also and the ice cold shower room! Within the hotel was nice also, from reception to the lounge, to the actual rooms. They are more older posh style than modern luxury but that was what we expected. Again, some things look a little tired but nothing major and nothing that put us off. Not so good, little things…. Simple things like no USB chargers in the room. Bed comfort was super soft, we have a Simba at home and it wasn’t really to our liking I actually didn’t sleep too well, but more of a personal preference thing. I really can’t think of anything else which says a lot!

BEWARE. We feel scammed. We experienced many obstacles that a 5 star hotel should never allow a guest to experience. The hotel is gorgeous and the grounds were stunning. The decor is very well done. Unfortunately the rest did not live up to the initial impression. The USB port in the room did not work and a maintenance person finally came to the room and determined it just didn't work and they provided us with a converter chord to plug into the outlet as work around. While the maintenance person was there I asked how to turn on the towel warmer as it wasn't seeming to work - he said, "the towel warmers in half the rooms have been deactivated. The iron leaked and got my garment all wet. The blow dryer has a, "safety feature" that makes the guest think it just doesn't work. I called the front desk and the attendant told me, "just push the button". I asked, "the cold shot button" she said, "no the button". She had to come up to my room to show me how to operate this ridiculous blow dryer and in fact while you are holding the blow dryer - it won't work unless you constantly hold down the cold shot button. This also means that the cold shot is not available because it is used as the, "on button". No instructions in the room but plenty of promotional literature asking you to donate to the MacDonald family's favorite charity and selling their spa products. Loose the promotional material and worry more about the money that the guest is ALREADY spending. The window was old and was stuck open and I had to really work to close it. The window had an old scrapped up sticker saying, "caution". Remove the warning and fix the window. The bar downstairs with the gorgeous horse paintings was beautiful but unfortunately understocked. I first ordered a martini. No olives the bartender said. The choice (all from the provided menu) was a margarita. They didn't have those ingredients either. Ok howabout the tattinger cuve also on the menu - did not have that either. We ordered breakfast the night before to be delivered to the room the next morning. Mind you this is 26 pounds per and an additional 10 pounds charge for the room service tray. A hotel of this caliber should have a room service trolly to roll into the room not a tray that they had to move our stuff from off the table to place this room service tray on the only free table top in the room. The breakfast was just shameful and the coffee was like barley coffee flavored water. So I tried to use the plastic nescaffe machine in the room only to find 3 pods of decaffeinated and only 1 regular. This machine was too small to fit the mug provided in the room and it produced too much liquid after the coffee was expelled and I had to place a second mug slanted to catch the excess water coming from this flawed machine. I called the front desk and asked if the same chef who made the breakfast also made the food for the dining room and she said yes. That was very unfortunate because we were planning on staying at the hotel that day to get our spa services and then dine in the lovely dining room. I could not reward this chef for a horrible breakfast and I was not going to trust this kitchen for 1 more meal. The day we were checking out there was some sort of wedding expo that was setting up right in the hotel guest common areas. We had to walk around that and couldn't help but notice just another thing the hotel owners were profiting from and not giving the guests the experience they were charging for. I would not recommend this hotel and would offer some advice. Get a management team that knows what a 5 star hotel should be. Get a maintenance team to provide resolutions not excuses. Seriously re examine your kitchen team. Have the owners stay in the rooms to actually understand the guest experience that their name is taking credit for. The staff was aware of all of our issues and answered nothing more than, "o ok". I would suggest a traveler to bath stay closer into town considering this hotel experience did not justify the distance from town.

I didn’t stay at the hotel but had a spa day. Whilst the treatments were lovely and therapist very pleasant, the spa facilities are not pleasant. The showers and changing rooms were disgusting and filthy. The whole place needs a deep clean.

A disappointing visit. Nice and helpful staff who need some leadership and training. Delivery of food random and not sequenced through a meal - large gaps while we waited for the next course. Stale croissants. Over 15 minutes to replenish coffee. Left the restaurant before it arrived. Breakfast bread was cheap sweet supermarket sliced and not the appropriate quality for a more expensive hotel restaurant.

I recently had the opportunity to visit Bath Spa Hotel, and overall, it was a great experience. The steam room, sauna, and ice bath facilities were truly amazing, providing a relaxing and rejuvenating atmosphere. While the hotel itself was lovely and the staff were attentive, our dinner experience left something to be desired. We decided to dine at the hotel, but unfortunately, the meal was a bit disappointing. The bill totaled £120, but we didn’t feel satisfied, as the portion sizes were quite small and not enough for an average person. Additionally, we were surprised to find that we had to purchase toothpaste and a toothbrush for £5, which should typically be complimentary at a spa hotel. In summary, while the spa facilities are exceptional, I would recommend exploring dining options outside the hotel for a more satisfying meal.

A little dated as a hotel. Staff just plain rude, had an issue phoned reception they pick up the phone and immediately place it back down. I went down to reception. They are standing there chatting, decided to phone them and watched them pick it up and immediately put it back down. 5 star service? Won't be returning.

This is not a 5* hotel. On arrival to the hotel our room was not ready so we had a drink in the garden. Service was slow, so we went up to the bar to order a drink. There was no larger on tap at all so had to get bottles. We were then charged a service charge although we went up to the bar to get a drink. The garden has lots of weeds growing through the cracks and we were shocked at how unkept it was. Cigarettes burns in the cushions as photographed. We then got the keys to our room and what a shock. It was actually dirty as shown in photographs. Coffee was splashed up the wall, there were marks on the walls behind the bins. There were also several fresh stains on the carpet. Everything was in need of being refreshed. Enamel on the bath was damaged, the silicone around the sinks. The cabinet holding the tv on actually had wood broken off which was sharp and dangerous. The toilet seat had worn brown marks on. I could go on and on. Firstly, I spoke to housekeeping who said they would reclean the room. I then went to speak to reception. The manager said he would look for another room for me and then come and find me. We then went to the pool. The manager did not come and find us. We had to go back and ask him for an update. We were then asked to wait in our room for the manager to come and speak to us. He then took 20 minutes to come up. He showed us another room which was a lower standard than what we had as we had paid for an upgraded room which I just couldn’t believe. There was no offer of any money back although we were being offered a room which was cheaper than what we had paid for. We said we would stay where we were as the other room was also extremely tatty and much smaller than we had booked. The manager then said he would go and speak to his manager to see what he could do for us and he would then come and speak to us. He did not. There was no effort to rectify this issue at all and they chose to ignore our complaints which is just shocking considering the 5* status. We then went to have our treatments which were lovely but after when we went to the relaxation room there was a giant slug on the floor. I alerted two members of staff who did not seem shocked. They also did not apologise. There were not enough sun loungers for all the people trying to use the pool and the decking was a complete trip hazard. They had used tape to show it was broken and put a plant pot over the hole in the decking. Honestly, it really was appalling. After booking this for my partners birthday and spending that kind of money, you expect it to be a wonderful experience. We were left feeling unvalued and disappointed. I advise you to spend your money else where and find a hotel that appreciates your custom and who would help resolve any issues you have.

My partner booked a spa and stay for my birthday. The grounds and location of the hotel are fantastic, however this is not a 5 star stay or anywhere close to it ….. the rooms are dated with scuffs everywhere chipped bathtubs and dirty windows and extremely dated !!!!!! We had a deluxe room with a king size bed …. It was two single mattresses pushed together which dipped in the middle. The dinner was nice but not worth the price and was nothing special. The spa is old and needs a major refurb missing and broken tiles and scabby and old in general. However the massage we booked was decent and the best part of the stay. The award wining breakfast in the morning is a travelogue style buffet breakfast help yourself to cooked breakfast and charge £26 a head AVOID it was absolutey vile ….. we will never be returning As I can’t respond to your response (owner) I wouldn’t return even if you paid me good luck and I don’t know how it works but you don’t deserve 5* building and location lovely but everything else is so below what you expect 👍

Beautiful hotel, away from the crowd but not too far to walk to main town, around 15min approx. The hotel is very royal, stunning grounds lush and green, when we arrived we were welcomed by a young gentleman who was very friendly and provided us with information about Bath while we waited to be seen. We had a few issues with the room AC however they compensated us generously for the inconvenience and really made our stay worthwhile and memorable. Special thanks goes to Mubashir (manager) who went above and beyond to resolve our concerns with his outstanding service, and Ruby for her fantastic friendly and kind service. We loved the relaxing spa. The massage by Rachael was wow. Definitely recommend her. Thank you for making our stay special and welcoming.

Reviewing on the Spa Day package. We had a lovely facial and the spa facilities are really nice, especially this weekend in the sun, we enjoyed all the different steam/saunas, the ice room and the outdoor terrace! The outdoor pool was very hot, I bet it would be even more enjoyable when it's chilly outside. There was just one thing that lost two stars for the experience was the afternoon tea. Super slow service, we sat down for our 1PM afternoon tea booking and it took 30 minutes for the food to come out, we were not told what was in the sandwiches, the cakes were industrial and dry. We were finally served a pot of tea 1 hour in, by which time we'd basically finished. The scones were good, the scenery is beautiful, but the afternoon tea was absolutely not worth it - we should have brought our own sandwiches!

Incredibly disappointing. Long queues for the check in and restaurant. Concierge not very informed and not helpful. Facilities are incredibly old and you can even feel it in the air (carpets smell, aged stoned, etc). I don’t think I’d call this a 4 star hotel, let alone a 5 star hotel. Our room was somehow 10 degrees higher than the very pleasant weather outside. We couldn’t crack open a window and the AC was not working. When I informed the front desk their solve was to bring us this tiny fan. Not to give us a different room or attempt to fix it. Breakfast was also a huge disappointment. The buffet was mostly out so they took out a la carte orders. They asked if we wanted a latte before seeing the menu and after we ordered we realized it was a £4 pound surcharge! That’s more expensive than getting it at a cafe. What a bizarre thing to do. I also asked for a poached egg and ice several times and never received either. Grounds are beautiful but wow everything else was a massive fail.

Had a nice day at the spa with treatment and to the most part had a lovely time with partner, however there was not attention to detail or the luxuary elements to make it even close to being 5 star which was a shame. Some things were not clean, cutlery missing,l and other condiments, waiting around for staff when you should not have been overall bath spa is significantly overpriced and most likey will not return.

Very poor experience with the hotel charging twice for my stay. Over ten calls and four days later, including interaction with hopeless reception staff that promised to call back but never did, I am having to revert to the credit card company for redress. Be very careful if considering this hotel as there are many better options in Bath. This is certainly not a 5 star hotel by any normal interpretation of the grading. The property has potential but needs serious investment in the buildings and in staff (including both additional numbers and training). A real disappointment.

Hotel is an absolutely stunning venue set in lovely grounds and just a short walk into a lovely area in the city centre. Rooms were beautiful, clean and the spa is a great facility. The service however left a lot to be desired. There was nobody on reception when we arrived to check in, we had to order room service at the desk as nobody was answering the phone, we were then charged a service charge. At dinner we asked for menus and it took 30 minutes to be served, despite not being especially busy. Staff were friendly and polite but simply not enough of them. Not what I expected from a five star hotel that commands a high price.

We had a nightmare over the weekend when the Thermae Spa visit we had booked for a hen do was cancelled on the day because of maintenance. We called numerous spas to try and get a replacement but nowhere could fit us in because everyone else who had booked visits to the Thermae Spa had already taken up all the spaces. We went to the Macdonald Bath Spa hotel to see if we could book a spa visit for that afternoon, and luckily, the gentleman working at the Macdonald Spa (Jordan) was so helpful and accommodating. He really went above and beyond, told us they were a bit full but would not turn us away, gave us extra time in the spa, and was just really friendly and welcoming. We would 100% recommend a trip to this spa, the facilities are amazing, and having stayed at the hotel on previous occasions, we would definitely recommend staying the night too! Thank you Jordan!

I'll start with the positives. The staff were lovely, polite, professional and extremely helpful. The location was excellent and just a 15 min walk into Bath and the grounds were immaculate. The room was quite disappointing. We were in room 309, first floor, it was spotless but the bathroom was very tired. Paint chipped from the surrounds, the edge of the mirrors had lost its reflection and the bottom of the shower screen was crusty with scale. The extractor and the heated towel rail didn't work and there was a crack in the wash hand basin. I really wanted to love this hotel as from the outside it is magnificent.
