Nearly 5 star for us! What we liked (which was a lot!) Location, set in some stunning grounds, really gets the wow factor on the drive in, nice water features beautiful trees, so nice! Then just a 15-20 min walk to the town which is literally a straight walk, so simple too, it’s a great location. Parking is great and EV chargers also (about 50p per kilowatt to charge at time Oct 24 and easy availability) these are within car park. Spa - saw lots of complaints about the spa in reviews, but looked at the thermae spa and guests could only use that for short restricted times that would not fit around us. We really liked the spa, yes some parts could do with freshening up, but nothing all that bad, hydra pool was so lovely and hot and jets were decent. Sauna lovely and hot as needed. Loved the steam room also and the ice cold shower room! Within the hotel was nice also, from reception to the lounge, to the actual rooms. They are more older posh style than modern luxury but that was what we expected. Again, some things look a little tired but nothing major and nothing that put us off. Not so good, little things…. Simple things like no USB chargers in the room. Bed comfort was super soft, we have a Simba at home and it wasn’t really to our liking I actually didn’t sleep too well, but more of a personal preference thing. I really can’t think of anything else which says a lot!

BEWARE. We feel scammed. We experienced many obstacles that a 5 star hotel should never allow a guest to experience. The hotel is gorgeous and the grounds were stunning. The decor is very well done. Unfortunately the rest did not live up to the initial impression. The USB port in the room did not work and a maintenance person finally came to the room and determined it just didn't work and they provided us with a converter chord to plug into the outlet as work around. While the maintenance person was there I asked how to turn on the towel warmer as it wasn't seeming to work - he said, "the towel warmers in half the rooms have been deactivated. The iron leaked and got my garment all wet. The blow dryer has a, "safety feature" that makes the guest think it just doesn't work. I called the front desk and the attendant told me, "just push the button". I asked, "the cold shot button" she said, "no the button". She had to come up to my room to show me how to operate this ridiculous blow dryer and in fact while you are holding the blow dryer - it won't work unless you constantly hold down the cold shot button. This also means that the cold shot is not available because it is used as the, "on button". No instructions in the room but plenty of promotional literature asking you to donate to the MacDonald family's favorite charity and selling their spa products. Loose the promotional material and worry more about the money that the guest is ALREADY spending. The window was old and was stuck open and I had to really work to close it. The window had an old scrapped up sticker saying, "caution". Remove the warning and fix the window. The bar downstairs with the gorgeous horse paintings was beautiful but unfortunately understocked. I first ordered a martini. No olives the bartender said. The choice (all from the provided menu) was a margarita. They didn't have those ingredients either. Ok howabout the tattinger cuve also on the menu - did not have that either. We ordered breakfast the night before to be delivered to the room the next morning. Mind you this is 26 pounds per and an additional 10 pounds charge for the room service tray. A hotel of this caliber should have a room service trolly to roll into the room not a tray that they had to move our stuff from off the table to place this room service tray on the only free table top in the room. The breakfast was just shameful and the coffee was like barley coffee flavored water. So I tried to use the plastic nescaffe machine in the room only to find 3 pods of decaffeinated and only 1 regular. This machine was too small to fit the mug provided in the room and it produced too much liquid after the coffee was expelled and I had to place a second mug slanted to catch the excess water coming from this flawed machine. I called the front desk and asked if the same chef who made the breakfast also made the food for the dining room and she said yes. That was very unfortunate because we were planning on staying at the hotel that day to get our spa services and then dine in the lovely dining room. I could not reward this chef for a horrible breakfast and I was not going to trust this kitchen for 1 more meal. The day we were checking out there was some sort of wedding expo that was setting up right in the hotel guest common areas. We had to walk around that and couldn't help but notice just another thing the hotel owners were profiting from and not giving the guests the experience they were charging for. I would not recommend this hotel and would offer some advice. Get a management team that knows what a 5 star hotel should be. Get a maintenance team to provide resolutions not excuses. Seriously re examine your kitchen team. Have the owners stay in the rooms to actually understand the guest experience that their name is taking credit for. The staff was aware of all of our issues and answered nothing more than, "o ok". I would suggest a traveler to bath stay closer into town considering this hotel experience did not justify the distance from town.

A disappointing visit. Nice and helpful staff who need some leadership and training. Delivery of food random and not sequenced through a meal - large gaps while we waited for the next course. Stale croissants. Over 15 minutes to replenish coffee. Left the restaurant before it arrived. Breakfast bread was cheap sweet supermarket sliced and not the appropriate quality for a more expensive hotel restaurant.

I recently had the opportunity to visit Bath Spa Hotel, and overall, it was a great experience. The steam room, sauna, and ice bath facilities were truly amazing, providing a relaxing and rejuvenating atmosphere. While the hotel itself was lovely and the staff were attentive, our dinner experience left something to be desired. We decided to dine at the hotel, but unfortunately, the meal was a bit disappointing. The bill totaled £120, but we didn’t feel satisfied, as the portion sizes were quite small and not enough for an average person. Additionally, we were surprised to find that we had to purchase toothpaste and a toothbrush for £5, which should typically be complimentary at a spa hotel. In summary, while the spa facilities are exceptional, I would recommend exploring dining options outside the hotel for a more satisfying meal.

My partner booked a spa and stay for my birthday. The grounds and location of the hotel are fantastic, however this is not a 5 star stay or anywhere close to it ….. the rooms are dated with scuffs everywhere chipped bathtubs and dirty windows and extremely dated !!!!!! We had a deluxe room with a king size bed …. It was two single mattresses pushed together which dipped in the middle. The dinner was nice but not worth the price and was nothing special. The spa is old and needs a major refurb missing and broken tiles and scabby and old in general. However the massage we booked was decent and the best part of the stay. The award wining breakfast in the morning is a travelogue style buffet breakfast help yourself to cooked breakfast and charge £26 a head AVOID it was absolutey vile ….. we will never be returning As I can’t respond to your response (owner) I wouldn’t return even if you paid me good luck and I don’t know how it works but you don’t deserve 5* building and location lovely but everything else is so below what you expect 👍

This is not a 5* hotel. On arrival to the hotel our room was not ready so we had a drink in the garden. Service was slow, so we went up to the bar to order a drink. There was no larger on tap at all so had to get bottles. We were then charged a service charge although we went up to the bar to get a drink. The garden has lots of weeds growing through the cracks and we were shocked at how unkept it was. Cigarettes burns in the cushions as photographed. We then got the keys to our room and what a shock. It was actually dirty as shown in photographs. Coffee was splashed up the wall, there were marks on the walls behind the bins. There were also several fresh stains on the carpet. Everything was in need of being refreshed. Enamel on the bath was damaged, the silicone around the sinks. The cabinet holding the tv on actually had wood broken off which was sharp and dangerous. The toilet seat had worn brown marks on. I could go on and on. Firstly, I spoke to housekeeping who said they would reclean the room. I then went to speak to reception. The manager said he would look for another room for me and then come and find me. We then went to the pool. The manager did not come and find us. We had to go back and ask him for an update. We were then asked to wait in our room for the manager to come and speak to us. He then took 20 minutes to come up. He showed us another room which was a lower standard than what we had as we had paid for an upgraded room which I just couldn’t believe. There was no offer of any money back although we were being offered a room which was cheaper than what we had paid for. We said we would stay where we were as the other room was also extremely tatty and much smaller than we had booked. The manager then said he would go and speak to his manager to see what he could do for us and he would then come and speak to us. He did not. There was no effort to rectify this issue at all and they chose to ignore our complaints which is just shocking considering the 5* status. We then went to have our treatments which were lovely but after when we went to the relaxation room there was a giant slug on the floor. I alerted two members of staff who did not seem shocked. They also did not apologise. There were not enough sun loungers for all the people trying to use the pool and the decking was a complete trip hazard. They had used tape to show it was broken and put a plant pot over the hole in the decking. Honestly, it really was appalling. After booking this for my partners birthday and spending that kind of money, you expect it to be a wonderful experience. We were left feeling unvalued and disappointed. I advise you to spend your money else where and find a hotel that appreciates your custom and who would help resolve any issues you have.

The hotel is very royal, stunning grounds lush and green, when we arrived we were welcomed by a young gentleman who was very friendly and provided us with information about Bath while we waited to be seen. We had a few issues with the room AC however they compensated us generously for the inconvenience and really made our stay worthwhile and memorable. Special thanks goes to Mubashir (manager) who went above and beyond to resolve our concerns with his outstanding service, and Ruby for her fantastic friendly and kind service. Reviewing on the Spa Day package. We had a lovely facial and the spa facilities are really nice, especially this weekend in the sun, we enjoyed all the different steam/saunas, the ice room and the outdoor terrace! The outdoor pool was very hot, I bet it would be even more enjoyable when it's chilly outside. There was just one thing that lost two stars for the experience was the afternoon tea. Super slow service, we sat down for our 1PM afternoon tea booking and it took 30 minutes for the food to come out, we were not told what was in the sandwiches, the cakes were industrial and dry. We were finally served a pot of tea 1 hour in, by which time we'd basically finished. The scones were good, the scenery is beautiful, but the afternoon tea was absolutely not worth it - we should have brought our own sandwiches!

Incredibly disappointing. Long queues for the check in and restaurant. Concierge not very informed and not helpful. Facilities are incredibly old and you can even feel it in the air (carpets smell, aged stoned, etc). I don’t think I’d call this a 4 star hotel, let alone a 5 star hotel. Our room was somehow 10 degrees higher than the very pleasant weather outside. We couldn’t crack open a window and the AC was not working. When I informed the front desk their solve was to bring us this tiny fan. Not to give us a different room or attempt to fix it. Breakfast was also a huge disappointment. The buffet was mostly out so they took out a la carte orders. They asked if we wanted a latte before seeing the menu and after we ordered we realized it was a £4 pound surcharge! That’s more expensive than getting it at a cafe. What a bizarre thing to do. I also asked for a poached egg and ice several times and never received either. Grounds are beautiful but wow everything else was a massive fail.

Hotel is an absolutely stunning venue set in lovely grounds and just a short walk into a lovely area in the city centre. Rooms were beautiful, clean and the spa is a great facility. The service however left a lot to be desired. There was nobody on reception when we arrived to check in, we had to order room service at the desk as nobody was answering the phone, we were then charged a service charge. At dinner we asked for menus and it took 30 minutes to be served, despite not being especially busy. Staff were friendly and polite but simply not enough of them. Not what I expected from a five star hotel that commands a high price.

Very poor experience with the hotel charging twice for my stay. Over ten calls and four days later, including interaction with hopeless reception staff that promised to call back but never did, I am having to revert to the credit card company for redress. Be very careful if considering this hotel as there are many better options in Bath. This is certainly not a 5 star hotel by any normal interpretation of the grading. The property has potential but needs serious investment in the buildings and in staff (including both additional numbers and training). A real disappointment.

We had a nightmare over the weekend when the Thermae Spa visit we had booked for a hen do was cancelled on the day because of maintenance. We called numerous spas to try and get a replacement but nowhere could fit us in because everyone else who had booked visits to the Thermae Spa had already taken up all the spaces. We went to the Macdonald Bath Spa hotel to see if we could book a spa visit for that afternoon, and luckily, the gentleman working at the Macdonald Spa (Jordan) was so helpful and accommodating. He really went above and beyond, told us they were a bit full but would not turn us away, gave us extra time in the spa, and was just really friendly and welcoming. We would 100% recommend a trip to this spa, the facilities are amazing, and having stayed at the hotel on previous occasions, we would definitely recommend staying the night too! Thank you Jordan!

I'll start with the positives. The staff were lovely, polite, professional and extremely helpful. The location was excellent and just a 15 min walk into Bath and the grounds were immaculate. The room was quite disappointing. We were in room 309, first floor, it was spotless but the bathroom was very tired. Paint chipped from the surrounds, the edge of the mirrors had lost its reflection and the bottom of the shower screen was crusty with scale. The extractor and the heated towel rail didn't work and there was a crack in the wash hand basin. I really wanted to love this hotel as from the outside it is magnificent.

The stay here was dissapointing. As others have said this is not a 5 star hotel. That should be revised. While the building and rooms were nice and the staff were pleasant enough, the service was terrible. Slow and unattentive at breakfast, lunch and dinner. They were at times, totally incompetent, messing up orders and bookings completly, charging us for things that were included in our package. The deep tissue massage in the spa was not great, although my friend was very happy with the facial she had. Also, the spa is open to the public in the afternoon so it gets very busy. Go in the morning if you want a more relaxed experience. Dirty plates and glasses were left out around the hotel for hours. When checking out I asked if they were understaffed and was told no, this is just how they operate. The kick in the face is the service charge they automatically add to everything. I don't mind paying service charges, I live in the US, but to have service added to the bill for terrible service is unacceptable. This hotel needs new management and better trained staff. For anyone having a wedding or important event here, reconsider. If you're expecting a 5-star hotel and a great experience, you'll likely be disappointed.

I always strive to write fair and honest reviews based on my experiences. Unfortunately, my recent stay at this hotel left me with some concerns. Firstly, there was no working safe in the room. This was quite disappointing as it's an essential amenity that I expect to be provided in a hotel. Additionally, the pillows in the room were stained, the enamel in the sink and bath was in desperate need of repair. The spa area also had its issues. There were multiple broken tiles, which not only posed a safety hazard but also contributed to a general sense of feeling grimey (with visible mould!). It was clear that the spa was not well-maintained and was far from the relaxing experience we expected. The breakfast provided was a major disappointment. The food was inedible, with cold dishes made from what seemed to be the cheapest ingredients that are typically found at the bottom of a freezer. It was even more disappointing to be served such a subpar breakfast after discovering that the hotel had been issued 2 two Rosettes. To make matters worse, the coffee served was burnt and lacked choice. On a positive note, the location of the hotel was good and there was ample parking available. The grounds were also well-kept and visually appealing. The staff, particularly Ruby and Marie, were friendly, provided great service and did offer solutions. Also the other bloke on reception was both funny and understanding. However, overall, the service was slow. Do not be deceived by the 5-star rating of this hotel. If it were not for the on-site restaurant and spa facilities, at best, I would consider it a 4-star hotel, and even then, a poor 4-star at that. Lastly, I noticed that there were instances where children were present in the pool beyond the designated time and in areas clearly marked for individuals aged 16 and above. This lack of enforcement was concerning and certainly didn’t result in a relaxing experience! In conclusion, while there were some positive aspects such as the location, parking, and friendly front of house staff, the issues with the lack of a working safe, cleanliness, broken tiles in the spa, breakfast quality, and slow service were disappointing. It is important for future guests to be aware of the discrepancies between the 5-star rating and the actual experience. I hope that the management takes note of these concerns and takes the necessary steps to address them, ensuring a better experience for future guests.

The hotel building and the grounds are beautiful. The only thing that lets this place down is the lack of staff. We waited over 20 minutes for drinks to be served, our cream tea didn’t arrive in our room as booked and we had to chase this up. The main problem was when trying to contact somebody via telephone, this was near impossible. I had the feeling this would be problematic prior to the stay as I tried to simply book some massages but trying to get hold of the spa was a challenge in itself. Treatments are lovely but if you want to try out samples…these were empty. When trying to buy spa products, many were out of stock. No relaxation room after treatments as this was being updated. Saunas were fantastic. Pool was ok but indoor not for relaxing but more for lane swimming and the outdoor pool for relaxing. Food was fantastic. Bedrooms are in need of a lick of paint especially the bathroom. Having stayed in many five star hotels in this country and others, it’s certain that this hotel has the look of a five star, but the service of a Three. You could see that the staff that were there were working hard but clearly not enough of them to manage. Would i return? If simply needing a bed for the night in a great location then yes but for a spa break then no.
