Basil Indian Restaurant in Fife

I moved to Dunfermline in November. We have visited 3 times now and it’s been excellent everytime! Highly recommend ! They are great at cooking the dishes to your liking

Tasty meal - slightly pricey, but not unreasonably so. The interior was servicable and pleasant enough. The fish tikka starter (they had to substitute type of fish) was delicious, well cooked, and well presented. The makhani daal, pilau rice, and roti were also all well presented, well cooked, and very enjoyable. Prices were reasonable - daal was maybe slightly higher than elsewhere for a daal dish, but other items were comparable for sit-in. Service was good - efficient and polite, if not friendly. Surroundings were maybe a little tired, but comfortable and suited me well, and made for a pleasant environment to eat and relax.

We often eat here and do take away. We eat lots of Indian food and this is fantastic. We love the lamb chop starters, tikka masala and madras. Definitely try, we carried out Xmas eve, faultless xx

Went in for some lunch with my daughter, and we were not disappointed the food was delicious. The service was good and not too expensive so would recommend a visit.

I used to order from here a lots of times but it’s been few months namste let me down the food doesn’t tase the same like before I tired them again today and total disappointment I orders chicken qrma which ment to be sweet but I got salty one when I called they said sorry wrong order and hang up my phone so won’t order from them again it’s such a disappointment to see my favourite restaurant going down

Amazing food and service. Great value

Tasty food but surroundings a little disappointing. We stopped visiting this restaurant when it changed hands - new management for a while now and hopefully they will refurbish seating and refresh menus (the table was dirty and drinks menu was quite stained and sticky). We were unlucky with neighbouring table playing loud videos on their phones and with Christmas music in restaurant it was a bit full on. Set menu on Sunday didn’t inspire us as all chicken mains - but full menu also available.

Just our second visit to Namaste..... WHY??? This has to be one of the best if not THE best Indian/Nepalese restaurants in Fife, if not Scotland. My wife had the superb Lamb Korma, I had the Namaste Special Chicken Lasune from the a la carte menu, a very tasty dish with a fusion of various spices, but not at all hot, absolutely delicious. We shared a garlic naan, and portion of peas pilau rice, then had a sweet each. We both finished our food, but truth be told, we should have stopped eating earlier as the portions were very generous, but the taste meant we just had to finish it all. Our matre d, Ali, was very professional and polite throughout, he had recommended the Chicken dish, and it didn't disappoint. We were there for our anniversary lunch, Ali congratulated us both, shaking our hands and wishing us health and happiness. This is a gem of a restaurant, almost full on a Wednesday lunchtime so I will book next time to ensure we get a place. Stunning place Ali and the team, well done all.

Had a great evening meal here. Salt and pepper squid followed by south Indian garlic, chilli chicken. Superb food at good prices and I personally found the staff very friendly. Great customer service guys.

Ordered delivery at 2.33pm for delivery later 18.30pm. Called 3 times over a 2 hour period to be told food had left!!!! Eventually after 3rd call was told order had just been given to the kitchen. Delivery received 8.42pm Although it's was over 2 hours late the food was amazing. Would order again just not delivery.

I popped in here whilst away with work on a weekday. Absolutely fantastic from the moment I walked in. Great atmosphere and lovely service. I had the Rara Ghost lamb ( chunks of lamb and mince in a mild-mid spice creamy sauce) Garlic naan and mushroom rice. On first visual impression I was amazed at the quality of the sundries. They looked the quality that you would get in the kind of restaurant that costs twice as much as this place. On tasting everything was amazing. Naan - authentic and very garlicy. Mushroom rice - rice was delicately flavoured, not too oily and the mushrooms were cooked fantastically. The Rara was great. I'd usually have a spicier dish but this was a welcome change of pace. The chunks of lamb were cooked to perfection and melted in the mouth. I never give reviews even though I go to a lot of places. Absolutely fantastic 10/10

Went here for the first time on Sunday for the fixed price £12.95 menu and we were blown away with everything. From starters to dessert everything was delicious and beautifully presented. The staff were courteous and professional and took time to talk to us. Good selection of wine at reasonable prices too. We'll be back again soon, our new favourite Indian restaurant

Just had a delivery, second time in 2 weeks! Fantastic food, great quality ingredients. They made a mistake tonight, Wendy me the wrong curry, a phone call and 10 minutes later all sorted, brilliant! Now our go to did great Indian food

Visited Namaste last month. Highly recommended for food and value. My wife's Special Biryani was the best she's ever had, and she's had many, and my Korma was fab as well. Service was good and the host excellent. The only issue you may have is parking. This may be a little tricky but trust me it's well worth a short walk. Will definitely visit again, our new favourite anywhere. Thank you Namaste.

Fantastic food, service and atmosphere

Took over 2 hours for delivery. I think they'd forgotten as it arrived around 20 minutes after I called to chase it. Realised after unbagging that it was missing a main, which was pretty annoying after waiting that long. Didn't bother calling back. Food was fine but won't use again.

Would highly recommend that you try this restaurant. The food was delicious and the best Indian my husband and I have ever eaten. The service was great as was the price! The staff are friendly and welcoming. Great choices on the menu.

Amazing Indian food. Slowly working my way through the menu. The food is full of authentic flavour rather than different colours of spice. Both lamb and chicken are cooked to perfection and melt in the mouth. Super friendly staff provide a quick service. Book a table or order a takeaway...promise you'll be back!

Stopped by here for lunch while in the city without a booking. Three courses for £10, and my son loves Indian and Nepalese food. What a blooming amazing find. The restaurant isn’t particularly fancy but service is quick and slick. Portion sizes were great for a set price lunch menu and the menu was pretty extensive. Loads of vegan options, I had the aubergine curry and it was one of the best curries I’ve had in years. Including London, Edinburgh, Glasgow - this was so good. Other son had the kids western menu (boo) but happily finished it. Slight mix up with bill pricing but this was quickly rectified - brilliant restaurant and my son is begging to go back asap.

Excellent food and good service. We enjoyed our family meal in this restaurant. Staff were helpful and attentive to our needs. The food was tasty and fresh. Highly recommended.

Ordered 1 chicken madras and 1 chicken tikka masala, delivered 2 chicken madras, didn't realise until I plated them up, I can't eat madras so binned it, spoke to them about it and they said they would deliver a chicken tikka masala and to return the containers to delivery driver, didn't receive my chicken tikka so afraid I won't be ordering from here again

First visit to namaste and it certainly won't be the last. Lunch menu is excellent value,food was amazing, friendly attentive

Never been here before. Have to say from the outside it looks small but it is a bit of a tardis. Not massive but plenty of seating. We both went for the set lunch which is very good value for money. For a set lunch, the portions are very generous and the choice is very good. I can't fault the service either. We both enjoyed our meal and judging by the number of diners, they seemed to as well. Restaurant was also clean as were the toilets. Nice touch also to have proper linen napkins. All in all, very impressed and we will return.

friendly pleasant staff. I usually eat out in the Edinburgh area so my comparison is based on the Edinburgh Indian restaurants. I felt that the chef hadn’t got the flavours quite right. The chicken korma tasted too salty and my friend also confirmed this. The lamb sag didn’t seem to have as much flavour as I’d normal expect. Both dishes lacked enough meat content. I would go back if there wasn’t anywhere else that was convenient. It just didn’t have the wow factor for me. Sorry & good luck.

Best curry in Dunfermline. Karahi and Butter Chicken are outstanding, so tasty. Fresh and crispy naan. Extremely reasonably priced. Have returned regularly and quality has not dropped.

Lucky residents of Dunfermline to have such a great restaurant on your doorstep! We were on holiday here and as we both love Indian food visited here and enjoyed a delicious meal. Mine was tandoori paneer which was tender and spicy cooked with onions and peppers. My husband's was mango chicken tikka which was large chicken pieces with a medium spiced curry sauce as an accompaniment. The stuffed vegetable paratha was light and tasty. The staff were friendly and efficient. We wish we could visit more frequently!

Just finished the most delicious South Indian Garlic Chilli Chicken I have ever eaten. The pilau was aromatic and moreish and the Garlic Nan was fluffy and light. Will definitely order again.

Food was very good. Nice atmosphere as was fairly busy even for a Tuesday. Wait for mains was longer than we would expect but we're a group of 11.

Wir haben innerhalb einer Woche hier zwei mal gegessen. Jedes mal waren alle Speisen qualitativ sehr gut und sehr lecker. Die Bedienung war ebenfalls sehr nett und bemüht. Wir können dieses Restaurant auf jeden Fall weiterempfehlen.

The worst indian chicken tikka garlic I,ve ever ate. Onion bhaji was burnt too a sinder & pershwari nan wasnt even cooked through, disgusting in the bucket, replaced it the next day & it was exactly the same. Infact there was more large peppers & onions to chicken, you would of thought it was a chinese, avoid at all cost

Really good, really authentic curries! We usually make our own curry because we are used to a lot more spiciness and heat than the average person. Happy to report that the food here is of very high standard, with a lot of flavour and spice! The first time in a very long time that my husband felt challenged by a curry dish!!! His vegetable pakora too was surprisingly good as we've had terrible examples of this dish from other restaurants in the past - these oakoras were light and crispy with a subtle flavour to them. The chicken tikka had generous meat portions and the masala sauce was so creamy and lush, with just the right amount of zing for me! The naans were spot-on authentic and we thoroughly enjoyed all the food.

Went to pick it up the order for collection had a fantastic service from Ali 10/10 we will use the service for ever had extras for free of charge plus top of everyone is food was delicious next time will tell them personally how tasty the food was.

We actually phoned and picked up our takeaways .Our meals were Delicious we had chicken madras and North Indian Garlic Chicken chilli. we have ordered several dishes from Namaste and they have all been very tasty plus 10%off if you collect,but today we had 4 small pots of dips and hot popadoms added at no extra cost,which we were delighted with,especially when we were celebrating a Birthday..which was not disclosed.So thank you Chef and Colleagues.See you again soon. .

Having lived in the Dunfermline area for many years and probably tried every restaurant in Dunfermline I have to say this is simply the best , very welcoming staff , food is fabulous , it’s a place that if you try it once you’ll be back as can’t fault it

Three old guys went for a birthday lunch to Namaste, as chosen by the Birthday one. It was excellent, I’m not the biggest fan of Indian restaurants but Namaste is cuisine on a higher level. The Chicken Tikka was succulent and moist, not dried up like other similar restaurants. The spice levels in the main course of Chicken Jalfrezi was fragrant and flavourful ,rather than overpowering as usually found. The Pilau rice, also, had a fragrant and interesting taste through it too. We also had one of the best Peshwari Naan I’ve had. To follow we had a cup of good coffee. My friend booked to come next week with others and we two both commented that we won’t miss return visits to Namaste. Namaste is imho the best Indian Restaurant in Fife.

Our first visit to Namaste, but I can assure you it won't be our last. My wife is not a lover of Indian or hot spicy food, so it's always a bit risky eating out. We ordered a Mo-Mo starter between us after the waiter assured us it wasn't hot, although the dipping sauce was a hot sauce. First bite with no sauce, and Agnes went bright red.....too hot (which shocked the waiter) I ate them, thought they were very nice as was the hot sauce, and a few moments later the waiter appeared with another complimentary starter, definitely not hot he said.....But again, one bite and it was obvious there was a mild chilli kick.... Not to be beaten, the waiter and chef collaborated and returned with yet another starter, chicken strips in a rich honey sauce. This did the trick, absolutely delicious chicken starter,,,,third time lucky for Agnes even though we insisted we didn't want either of the 2 complimentary starters. For Mains, Agnes had Lamb Korma, and I had ordered a Chicken Chasni dish as a back up in case the Lamb was a bit spicy so I could swap over. No need, the Lamb Korma was the best ever, and my first mild Indian meal was also first class. The staff and chef went above and beyond to ensure that one of their diners was not let down, and did not charge for any of the extra starters or the accompanying bowl of yoghurt. OK, my wife is not a lover of Indian food, and only went as it was my Birthday, but she is now hooked on Namaste as the staff have assured her they will make any meal as mild as she needs it to be in future. Will definitely return...

Excellent meal yesterday. Monkfish starter and chops main were superb. Chilli chicken starter nice and spicy. Main of north Indian Garlic chilli lamb was cooked to perfection and very tender . Very reasonably priced.

Great evening. Food was really good and service was brilliant.

First visit last night and all 5 of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Service was good and at no point were we rushed even though 2 of our party were a bit late. Beer and wine good too. This is the best curry I have had in years and certainly in Dunfermline. Great to have a fantastic local go to Indian again. We will be back! Note that the restaurant is under new ownership since my review. I have not visited yet.

Excellent quality Indian food with probably the best naan I've had. We only had time for mains but all 6 were excellent. Great value too. Staff were friendly and helpful. Definitely will be back.

The best Naan in the UK hands down. I have eaten at many Indian restaurants and choose lamb Madras 90% of the time and I think I can say this one was also the best I've had. The service matched the meal.

We were back here today for a birthday lunch and we were so delighted with the food and the excellent service. We both enjoyed Biryani from the A la carte menu plus my husband had a king prawn starter and we shared a delicious nan bread then finished off with coffee. We shared a bottle of wine and rounded off with gin and tonic. This cost less than £70. We are so happy to recommend this great eatery. Try it...their lunch menu is also superb and such great value for money.

Reading the reviews was hoping to find a great Indian restaurant. Unfortunately not for us. Starters were fine but main meals were poor. Tandoori mix was particularly poor and special biryani wasn’t much better. Only rating as 3 star due to nice staff.

I had a beautiful lunch here while visiting on holiday. Service was excellent, food was delicious, and most importantly I left with a smile and full belly. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Dunfermline looking for authentic Indian/Nepalese cuisine! The vegetable pakora and chicken & mushroom curry is fantastic🙂

Got takeaway from Namaste last night and will definitely be back! The staff were really lovely and they also suggested we order the set meal for 2 which was only £1 more than our order but included a starter and popadoms. It was all delicious and we even had left overs for lunch 😋

Another fabulous dining experience. Food was superb, service first class. We have enjoyed both special lunch menu which is great value for money, and the a la carte which does not disappoint. Delighted to recommend.

Decided to celebrate a family milestone with a takeaway from Namaste. The reviews were so good that we needed to try it. So....great place and lovely people. Poppadum was lovely, as was the chicken tikka starter, However, the Momo had chicken gristle; the Namaste Special Chicken Lasune was so sweet I couldn't eat it; and the Lamb Saag was just "alright". Don't think we'll be back.

Best Indian restaurant in Dunfermline I've been to them all and this is the best by a long way. Food is cooked to perfection all the meat so tender, the sauces are to die for, staff so warm and welcoming. Can't wait to go back and try more delicious dishes. Keep up the good work Ram and team so glad you've opened this place.

Best Indian restaurant in Dunfermline This used to be Basil's but is now Namaste which has been opened by Ram and his team. The food is out of this world, all the meat so tender and sauces to die for, there's so many tasty choices on the menu it's hard to pick, I went for the lamb garlic chilli which has to be the best version I've ever tasted and I've had a few currys in my time. Can't wait to go back and try more delicious dishes. Thank god they opened this place Dunfermline has been crying out for a real quality Indian restaurant, they do take away too.

Hands down one of the best Indian restaurants I have ever visited. I had the chicken pakora and biryani two nights back, and was so impressed that I brought my family out for a big sampling the next night. Everything is fresh, chicken is tender and and vegetables are crisp, and the small sampling of Nepalese dishes are incredible. The price is deceptively low, I’ve paid twice as much for food half as good before so the value here is off the charts. Service both nights was attentive, prompt, and courteous. I can’t recommend this place enough.

First time visit there last night. Wow... it was amazing. Food was very well presented and very tasty. Staff were brilliant and very attentive. Decor was very fresh and the Restaurant itself was spotless. Fantastic Value for money and all 6 of us would highly recommend a trip here for a night out. 1😋😋😋😋

1st time trying take away from Restaurant, Never again!!! Chicken tikka has a powdery coating of spices (this tasted like a decent attempt from a friend with not alot of experience at cooking indian cuisine?) curry sauce accompanying this main meal wasn't good and half the size of all other local restaurants serving tandoori main meals Nan was OK, Veg pakora lacked taste, rice looked good to begin, but soon after plating apparent it wasn't fluffy at all, basic stuff! You will have to raise your game big time, to compete with your very close by competitors in centre of Dunfermline as all other restaurants are far superior, 2 starting with 'A' 1 with "V' and one which may re open starting with 'K' So disappointed, getting Chicken tikka so bad for an Indian restaurant sums it up I'm afraid. 21/07/23

Update 11/04/23 **recently been taken over since leaving this review, I believe it's the same chef though, but i haven't been back yet!** The first time we have been, after reading the amazing reviews, we thought we'd give it a try. Service and food did not disappoint. Massive portions were very reasonably priced. We will definitely be back.

Visited at 4pm and the place had just opened as we walked in. Very cold inside and a long wait for the starter which I put down to them just opening before we arrived.

We hadn’t been here for a while as unfortunately our last visit to Basil the service was really poor however, wanted to try again as under new management. Food was delicious (same chef) and staff were lovely. Would recommend!

So disappointed. We’ve got gift vouchers for Basil which they won’t accept. Were advised only valid for 3 months yet no period mentioned on the vouchers. Won’t be back and certainly won’t be recommending.
