Bartellas Restaurant in Chelmsford

It was a special occasion and they made it extra special with a great dessert.

Tucked away just off the A12 we popped in for lunch and had the seafood slate and slow cooked pork belly, both of which were delicious, with fast and friendly service

Had a fabulous meal at Bartellas. Food was exceptional, the service was great and the atmosphere was perfect because we booked one of the private domes in the garden. Not cheap but you get what you pay for.

We were booked in for 7.30pm on a Saturday night and the restaurant was almost empty...not a good sign. The service was good apart from a couple issues which I'll get to. Menu is good, my starter though...the crumbled Stilton with poached pear had virtually zero Stilton and I counted 8 cashew nuts...mainly green salad. Main course was fish and chips was excellent except I had to ask for the tartar sauce . My desert was the ginger treacle pudding but was too small, it was actually smaller than the scoop of ice cream it was served with. Our waitress commented that we soon finished our deserts. I should have replied that such a tiny desert doesn't take long to eat. A whopping 12.5% service charge was added to our bill. No surprise that they have so few customers on a Saturday night.

Thank you to all at Bartellas for a wonderful evening on the oval table for my dad's 80th birthday family celebration. Food, service and atmosphere just perfect.

My husband and I went there for a birthday dinner. Was our first time visiting the place however will not be the last one. Food ,service, atmosphere all was more than perfect. We love the restaurant 😍

We rented a dome - was a little tired, not all the lights working. Ours was the only outdoor table occupied, no music piped outside so a little flat. Not sure I'd go to the expense of renting a dome again, but would definitely return for a meal. Staff were very welcoming

Beautiful family meal on Saturday evening . Our table was oval, it was lovely to be able to see everyone. It was really nicely laid. Our servers were very nice and professional. Most of us had 3 courses and all of our meals were very good. We had a great time here .

A great Sunday lunch. Meat and veg cooked really well. Only let down by the Yorkshire Pudding. Did not rise enough. Poor batter. Undercooked. Trust me. I am a proud Yorkshireman taught to cook by the best.

Have visited for over eight years now . Despite some changes to staff recently, the food is still great and staff always friendly and efficient. Had tasty prawn cocktail,calves liver and a delicious lime and blueberry pie. If you want a good lunch in a warm restaurent at a reasonable price with excellent staff..go to Bartellas at Margaretting . Often go for a Sunday roast and it is still the best. Good size portions too.

We came here to celebrate a work colleague's birthday. The food was truly phenomenal and the atmosphere was great with very helpful, polite and friendly staff. Will definitely be going back.

Had a fantastic lunch, today. I had calves liver with parsnips, creamy mash, etc. Liver was cooked to perfection. Delicious gravy 😋. Food arrived beautifully presented and hot. Highly recommend. Will definitely be back.

Booked in for Afternoon Tea as a 40th Wedding Anniversary Celebration - the team couldn't have done more for us or been more accommodating! We had an absolute blast in a relaxed, and yet beautiful atmosphere. The kids afternoon tea is genius as the little ones felt involved and special. Thank you so, so, much Bartellas! x

Feel like I died and went to foodie heaven! I have eaten at a lot of places and this one made it to my list of favourites. Will definitely be returning to try the rest of the menu.

Amazing food, this was way above normal hotel food so the prices were a little higher than expected, but excellent value for money when tasted.

Blimmin great. Thai fish balls and hot red sauce followed by mushroom tortellini with a something and something else sauce. Beautifully cooked and really tasty. Followed up with coffee in the lounge area. Feeling massively full now.

Absolutely fantastic! We came here for a mother's day weekend treat and it was wonderful. We were skeptical that it wouldn't be because we made assumptions as it's attached to a hotel, if you're thinking that too - you couldn't be more wrong. Bartellas is a hidden gem. The prices are reasonable, the atmosphere is nice, the surroundings are lovely and the staff are wonderful! That's not even mentioning the food, which was phenomenal! Everyone really enjoyed it and Lorna couldn't do enough for us. It was a fantastic evening and we cannot wait to come back. If you're even slightly considering coming here and you're not sure, please stop thinking about it and just do it - you won't regret it.

Had dinner in one of their outside pods. Unusual and fun way to experience eating outside, but staying dry and warm. The roast dinner was lovely and staff were very attentive. Recommended 👍

So, this is the Roast sirloin of beef, Roast potatoes, honey roasted vegetables, seasonal greens, Yorkshire pudding, pan gravy.... I especially loved the pan gravy. I also loved the environment, because we stayed in one of the mini-pods. The food came in time and the waitresses knew their craft.. I will definitely be visiting again... thumbs up.

A bit dated and pricey. Spacious dining room but no real atmosphere. The food is good but there isn't anything remarkable on the menu. Plenty of staff who were very attentive. They asked if the meal was ok however the chips were underdone. I was reassured that the feedback would go to the chef but I had expected an apology that didn't come. Overall the experience was fairly average

Lovely bar with tasty food, chilled atmosphere and good music. The waiter that served us during creamfields weekend was friendly and pleasant.

Good food and service at reasonable price. My wife and I had three courses, and we liked everything that we ate. Our server gave helpful advice and suggestions. We are visiting the area and, if we return, we would be happy to repeat the experience.

First time back since 2020 covid pandemic and went to celebrate a birthday, did not disappoint me my food was okay excellent from start to finish and only 1 glass of Prosecco , but unfortunately the rest of the party didn’t like their food the beef was too fatty and potatoes hard , but o will be back

Libby Kitching is rude and needs to be retrained in customer service. Her response to my email was embarrassing. I would not recommend dining at a restaurant where the manager has such a poor attitude. Disgusting

Afternoon tea anyone? I visited for birthday celebration and the welcome, service, and food were all first class. Great sarnies and almost endless cakes certainly hit the spot!

I had a lovely lunch af the restaurant with a friend. The food was delicious and the service was extremely good. I loved the way the tables were nicely spaced out and dressed with fresh flowers. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience and I would definitely go back. X

Good food and great service. The main menu had interesting starters but rather ordinary mains, but the specials menu corrected this with some delicious alternatives.

Can not recommend Bartellas more. We celebrated my nans 90th birthday with the hotel in 2020 and have returned to the restaurant again this year for a family dinner. The staff can not do any more for us. They are so willing to help and want to go the extra mile. We have some dietary requirements, all the staff are so knowledgeable about the menu and are happy to swap out items if required. Knowing it was my nans birthday they decorated a plate wishing her a happy birthday with homemade truffles for everyone. Such a lovely gesture! Thank you Bartellas. Only down side, there wasn't a table large enough for 13 people so we had to split up on 2 tables, not the biggest problem as after we had eaten with all squished around 1, but would have been nice to all sit together.

I booked bartellas as a birthday surprise for my partner. He was definitely not disappointed!! I booked a dome outside which cost £20 extra but was very romantic and very special. The food was amazing, one of the best steaks I've had and all of the staff were absolutely lovely, funny, friendly and helpful.

The domes looked really nice with the evening lights, and the food was good as well. But the place was deserted, we were the only ones outside, which unfortunately meant the server was not around very often. The inside of the dome esp around the top didn't look overly clean and attracted a lot of flies/insects esp. a daddy longlegs that re-entered our tent and simply didn't leave

Special mention for Lorna, and new appointment Lucy, whose excellent welcome, service, and cheerful demeanor made a good evening better. The chef's food matched the excellent service and surroundings. Bartellas is a great place to go, and go again.

Fabulous meal in this lovely setting. We hired one of the domes and it was a lovely experience. Service and food were exceptional, we were very well looked after by Lorna who was very friendly and helpful. Reasonably priced cocktails too. We will definitely return and recommend

We were greeted by very welcoming staff who took us to to our outside dome and were very friendly. The food came out very quickly after order and was cooked to perfection. The domes are very pretty and picturesque, however it stated quite clearly on the website that these domes were heated, upon further inspection there was zero heating in these domes and towards the end of the night me and my wonderful girlfriend had the Willie's. Needless to say the full heating was deployed in the car on the way home. All in all a fantastic experience minus the frost bite.

We dined in a garden dome to celebrate my partners 60th birthday. From start to finish the food & service was excellent. The waiting staff went above and beyond to make the evening special, they were a credit to the restaurant.

Stayed in the hotel for one night due to working away from home and ate here for dinner. The food is the best I've had working away from home. Pork belly melt in your mouth delicious and the gingerbread cake was to die for! Excellent friendly efficient service, would highly recommend eating whether staying in the hotel or not.

Loved it. We attended Bartellas as part of a large group, therefore were given a limited menu in advance for the adults and children, that seemed on the pricey side (approx £30 for two adult courses), however we will be back! The food was incredible! We dined in pods in the garden, a beautiful setting, especially on a summer evening. The staff were polite and helpful (thank you for finding a way to create vanilla vodka) and I’m looking forward to returning as soon as possible. Highly recommend.

We broke down on our way home early in the morning. Had to use the carpark to utilize the RAC. The receptionist made us very welcome and we were able to get a much needed cuppa and 'comfort break'. Even though we weren't a customer we were able to take the dog for a walk outside in the gardens. Thanks guys - keep up the good work 👍

Great vegan menu - absolutely delicious food! Being vegan I'm used to the standard 1 vegan option on the menu.... but at Bartella's I had my own vegan menu! 3 or 4 options for starter, main and dessert!!! I struggled to choose!!! Service was 10/10 too!

Good.covered a lot of tables.igloos.marquee all outside..you could hav light lunch or a meal. A lot of folk enjoyin the time .

This is a lovely restaurant, for a light bite or a special occasion. Currently very safe, superb food and friendly staff. My second visit and I'll definitely be going back again soon.

The outside is beautiful and although there was a little hiccup with our reservation, they were quick to amend and get us a table. The food was lovely and the atmosphere was great. The staff made the evening very special and were all very welcoming. Thank you very much for making it a lovely meal.

A lovely family Sunday lunch here was made perfect with excellent food and fabulous service. Well worth booking a table in these difficult times as the restaurant was clean and spacious yet warm and welcoming. The amazing staff have nailed social distancing dining with a smile. We felt comfortable, confident and safe throughout. Definitely visit this beautiful restaurant again.

My husband and I came here for our 3 year wedding anniversary and it was a lovely meal. The restaurant had not long opened from the lock down and we felt very secure eating there. The food as always was delicious and the staff couldn't do enough for us.

Went last night had a very disappointing meal, starters was pork belly and prawns it came out COLD, pork belly cold nasty, steak was dry and no favour, restaurant was still lovely, we came last year and had a brilliant meal, was this a bad meal or is Bartellas losing its touch a bit
