Barry Island Brewers Fayre in The Vale of Glamorgan

Went for the carvery. Beef was very dry, chicken was ok and gammon very fatty. Roast potatoes left a lot to be desired as well but the rest of the veg and the stuffing balls was very nice. Reasonable value for money

Vegan menu could have been better, very few options. But the burger I had was fairly good, but there are vegan items on the menu that are not marked as vegan. Atmosphere is what you make it. Wheelchair accessibility to the table was good, booked ahead, lots of space to manoeuvre. Disabled loo could have been a lot better, no issues with toilet Hand wash sink was tiny, didn't like the hand soap, was slimy. Hand dryer was difficult to use from a sitting position, constantly cutting out. All form and little substance. Door couldn't lock. And the red emergency cord was in the corner, thankfully I didn't need it as I would have had to reach around the toilet if I had fallen.

Went for food and the Sunday roast ran out of Yorkshire puddings and pigs in blankets.

Bit of friendly advice. If you're going to turn away a pre booked birthday breakfast party of over 10 people, Atat least try to be A) polite about it (your waitresses apathy was frustrating, and B) have a better reason than baked beans. You knew you had people booked, you knew what time we were booked. I worked in a place like this for years. Own it a little. You're service was appalling.

Absolutely amazing service and food

Even though it's cold outside the hotel was boiling hot put ac on was so loud couldnt sleep cant even open window's at all so stuffy. Husband asked someone to open the door as hands were full a crew member from gavin and stacey set had a right go at husband swearing n everything at him totally ruined the atmosphere there. Yes we no they were filming but they're so rude from the show james corden wouldnt have picture said he doesnt do charity.. he was so rude. All rest cast memebers said yes. Family kicked off aswell a lot of angry people during our stay unfortunately.

We love the relaxing atmosphere, the sea views and the fact there is a Vegan menu including a vegan ice cream for dessert 🍨 Staff are always pleasant 😊

As someone who is gluten free, I've been very impressed with the staff's knowledge of the allergy and willingness to help make sure the meal is safe. Though they don't have a designated gluten free menu (there is an allergen booklet), everyone from the bar team to the chef seems well trained in preparing food safely.

If you sign up online you normally get money off food offers every month or so. Anything fron 25% to 50% off food.

Visited middle of August while on holiday. We had 1 mixed grill, 1 burger and chips, 1 pie and chips. Very nice all round. The guy who seated us was so lovely and welcoming, a credit to your company!!

I like to come here after a day at Barry beach. It's what you'd expect from a brewers fair but overall good food, service etc.

Like the food here better than other brewers fayre I've been to. Staff are very helpful and polite. The only complaint is I've never had crispy roast potatoes as it states on menu I really like crispy ones. Chef always slow at setting up the carvery rest of staff stand around doing nothing to assist supposed to start at 12 still waiting at 12.15 with a rather large queue.

I’ve never had a bad meal here. Josh and the staff have always tried to accommodate my family and have also welcomed a group international visitors that I brought at last minute. They left with a great impression of Barry and local hospitality! Thanks Josh!

Went for breakfast, the cooked breakfast had a good selection but the fruit and yogurt could have had more variety.

Had mum's wake there today. Own area provided, food order for all handled well and all turned up in rapid succession. Well done the team!

Never got any good beers not enough range of beers not lagers went for lunch with my husband and mother in law the music was so loud that we struggled to have a conversation. I ordered fish and chips and the fish was so small it was more like a fish finger covered in loads of greasy batter . suffice to say we will not be going back

As a new local to Barry, I went here for the first time today and it was nice weather (but a little windy down the water front) so decided to sit outside. There was a slight instance with the parasol so I went inside to let a staff member know. He apologised and said he would tell the manager. Moments later we were approached by the lovely manager Josh, to double check everything was okay which was wholly appreciated, even though everything was fine. But due to the slight inconvenience he offer a gesture of goodwill which I accepted. I have worked within the hospitality industry myself, and found his manner and approach really pro-active, really friendly and super caring given I have my baby with me and cannot thank him enough! He is a fantastic asset to the team and has certainly secured our future custom!! All other staff members we encountered were also very friendly, so would highly recommend a visit here. I will be back to try the food in the near future for sure given the wonderful customer service which can be hard to find these days!! A well oiled machine indeed! Thank you again Josh and team!!! :)

We have been going here regularly for a few years and have never had a bad meal. Great service. Great staff always willing to help.

Really nice place to eat, cheap too

Went at about 5.30pm and ordered 2x chicken tikka curry but was informed there was no rice and was told could only have chips as alternative. When it came there was way too much too sauce and not enough chicken, the poppadoma were extremely greasy and only had a hand full of chips. Also ordered kids mac and cheese, when it arrived, it had more or less burnt at the bottom of the dish making it very hard for my child to eat. Staff were friendly at the till and bringing the food.

Delicious food and good service. Extremely good value for money, especially on the children's menu which was such a good choice of balanced meals. We were pleasantly surprised

A Saturday evening with a family of 6. The service to order at the bar was quick and staff where friendly. Although it was busy, 40 minutes from order to service was somewhat unusual for this restaurant as normally they are quick for service. The food was warm, pleasant and the staff were very friendly.

I cannot understand their policy,I went there for lunch literally a couple of days ago which I must admit the staff were absolutely fantastic but the food wasn't the greatest but bearable,I was told I could pay the bill by card or cash so I paid by cash, but my problem is i went there again today just to have a drink outside in the sunshine and i was told i would have to download their app to order a drink which is absolutely pathetic, I just cant understand why they take cash one day but not 2 days later it just tells me that they don't care wether they lose customers or not so I decided to go to wetherspoons instead with no problems at all

Stopping off after a long journey hoping for something to eat - told they are not taking walk ins with the restaurant barely a quarter full, and only 12.30pm and when I walked past they had three tables booked for lunch. I hate to be one of those people but we me and my partner work for the company I find it appalling that no explanation was given, just a straight “no walk ins today sorry”. With the sun shining you would think they would want people in through the doors.

Went on a Wednesday so not particularly crowded... vast number of tables, some outside but no sun umbrellas for shade. Very pleasant staff and the food was delivered promptly. £23-ish for four alcoholic drinks and two meals. You can even have a table inside the old safe...! 🙂

Please print a proper gluten free menu and not have an out of date A4 leaflet. It feel like an after thought

Was a reasonable breakfast but didn't get everything I expected (asked for all veggie options, but didn’t get veggy bacon or beans). Coffee was ok. Staff helpful.

Atmosphere was good, friendly staff, the carvery is lovely, but could be hotter. The normal food menu and food was lovely too.

Long queues at the bar to order food and buy drinks. Asked for tartar sauce to go with fish, told they didn't have any. Our table wasn't cleared, plates still on the table when we left. Asked us to leave on Friday and Saturday at 9.50pm as they were shutting at 10.00pm, when I pointed out that their web page stated 11pm the very rudebar tender replied that he "once worked somewhere were it said they opened 24hrs and that didn't happen either". Absolutely appalling customer service, we were having a family reunion and spend time together is important to us. Also lied about tables not being available later in the evening when we requested a table at 7pm because some members of our party were at work, there were plenty of tables available at 7pm, obviously they didn't want to have to work until advised time. Definitely thinking retraining on custom service required!!!

We went here as it was raining and we were staying at the premier inn so didn't want to venture out, although wish we had. The place appeared to be understaffed. We waited to be sat for longer than we should have as there was noone around. Once sat we were told to order food at the bar so I'm not sure why we had to be waited to be sat. Once we decided what to eat, we joined the large queue to order food. Once at the front I asked for curry to be told there was no rice, so I asked for the spinach and ricotta lasagne to be told they don't have it. So I asked for sausage and mash to be told they only do that at lunch. It would have been easier to tell me what they do actually have. In the end I went for a child's meal deal as everything was fried or heavy on the menu. As part of the meal deal I asked for the strawberry dessert to be told there was no strawberries. It wasn't the young girls fault but it was annoying that as soon as they didn't have the first thing I wanted she could have told me then everything they didn't have. My husband had the trio of pies. We couldn't use our BLC as it was a Monday and the meals were on offer anyway which was fine but my issue with the menu is that is says meals from £7.99 on a Monday but then just has prices by it. So I thought why is that on a Monday, surely that's everyday. It doesn't make it clear that all the meals in a section are £7.99 on a Monday other than the trio of pies which is £9.99. Anyway order was put in. Around 30-35 mins later our food arrived. My kids spaghetti was insulting, I don't mind a small portion as it's better on my tummy but it had been shoved in a bowl and microwaved to death. The bottom was boiling but the top was freezing cold and it was all congealed. There is no way that should have come out and I wasn't going to eat it, no way I'd give it to a child. Needless to say I sent it back. I also ordered peas and got beans so back they went. Finally got a new spaghetti which wasn't so microwaved. It was cheap mushy mince so wasn't particularly pleasant. The best bit was the side of crudités I had and my water, my husband said his pies were nice but he had to throw his drink of coke as it was horrible. We then sat waiting for our dishes to be taken for another 20 minutes before I finally saw someone to ask for my pudding (part of the meal deal) and they took the dishes away. Service was not attentive but staff were pleasant enough. I can say I will never return.

4th June, Lunch meal, Chicken and ribs, very good. Staff are always excellent. Gents toilet requires work. Free WiFi not working. Had meal this evening (22nd December) Excellent outstanding Staff and meal and atmosphere. Excellent location and food. Staff very polite, friendly and attentive. Superb value and excellent food

The pub itself was really nice, plenty of tables and an adults on area which was a bonus. The staff were fantastic. It was very busy and there were only a few of them on duty, but they managed to keep food & drinks flowing. But - here is the negative side. The gents toilets all 3 urinals were closed off, so 2 cubicles were absolutely filthy The bar staff ran out off orange juice & cherries for cocktails. They did not have straws or Tia Maria. There was also a shortage of cocktail glasses, that was obviously down to the Limited number of staff available to collect glasses, so we were taking our glasses back and glasses from tables nearby.

Amazing food,amazing service staff go above and beyond,very clean lovely atmosphere ratings 10 out of 10 myself and hubby thoroughly enjoyed will definitely recommend our waitress Bethan was amazing constantly checking on us always keen to help a big well done to her xxxx

Josh waiter was absolutely exceptional. He was more than helpful. There was nothing that was too much for him to make sure we were comfortable and happy as a family while eating our tea thank you so much Josh for all your enthusiasm support and care of our needs.

We went to the barry brewers farye for tea and we were served by josh who could not do enough to ensure we were served professionally. The food was amazing i would highly recommend for food.

Absolutely amazing! Food was great and the service was fantastic. Was extremely busy considering there was only 2 wait staff however they done an amazing job and was quick, efficient and polite. The 2 wait staff on the 29th of April morning shift deserve some recognition for thier hard work and commitment! I wish josh was in!

Went for the buffet breakfast. Food was average at best. No big plates , left waiting over 10 minutes in the queue for more kid sized plates to be brought out with no apology or care from staff when questioned by other customers. Wouldn't return

Quiet relaxed atmosphere. Nice location. Dissapointed we went for a roast and had stopped serving them 2 hours before advertised time . My meal was served missing onion rings which I was not informed they had none or offered an alternative

Absolutely amazing the staff alone give this place 5 stars, and the atmosphere is always lovely and the food is so enjoyable, I 100% recommend because for the food they provide as well as the expensive it's worth the money and so affordable Xx

I've been coming here for years, great food and atmosphere. The reason for my 2 star service review is because of the miserable woman behind the bar, in the years I've been dining here I've never once seen her smile. However on a more positive note we were served by a lovely man, hes been there for years but I've never managed to catch his name.

Popped in here today for a spot of lunch and boy we were so impressed with the service and the food !! We were served by Josh today whose customer service and helpfulness was exceptional !!! We weee very impressed and can’t wait to recommend this gem of a place to friends and family thank you Josh !! X x

Nice Breakfast and kids eat free!

Not a good experience Staff weren’t very helpful when we asked for more information on the vegetation selection on what I would call a complicated menu. They just didn’t care. My Girlfriend ended up just having a potion of chips. I had the mixed grill which was dry and over cooked. We should have just walked out.

Had a great experience at a brewers fayre near Swansea, So booked for Barry as it was closer to home, When booking asked if they had a soft play section like the Swansea one,was told yes, So promptly booked, Upon arrival we were greeted and seated but confused look on my face when I couldnt spot the soft play area, Long story short they'd lied over the phone about it, for no other reason than to get the 6 of us there, to spend, We left immediately, no food or drinks orders, no apologies from the staff, Completely unprofessional,

Visit brewers fayre regularly for my fix of fish and chips (just love their fish and chips)giant cod freshly cooked to order ,staff are welcoming and polite. at present you have to book on line ,face masks now not required ,check with staff regards having to or not having to register car number on parking.

Gone down hill Haven't been for six months only had 20 chips a few peas and pie and cost is up

Fabtastic value for money. 2 kids eat free with each adult. Buffet was well and truly enjoyed. Great selection of fried foods an ld some sweet treats as well. Defo coming here again. Lovely.

Granted, after looking on the website, states that they are closing early. No signage at the place apart from ‘kitchen closed at 8 due to unforeseen circumstances’. We’re staying at the Premier inn next door. Thought I’d get a quiet pint last night (Sunday) at just gone 8… closed. Tonight at 9.40 I waited at the bar five minutes then got ‘oh, I can open up the tills again for you’. Bar full of customers, all I wanted was a quiet pint after a long day. Fortunately if you’re visiting Barry there are a couple of great bars at Goodsheds, or the Sam Romilly 10 mins walk away if it’s a Monday or Tuesday, which they’re closed on. We already avoided this place for family meals due to it being… not great. Now a total avoid.

Good service and pleasant dining room

Brewers fayre to my memory always used to be a solid chain. Having not visited since pre COVID we popped in for a convenient meal. I appreciate it is what it is, 'cheap pub grub'. But is it even cheap or value anymore? Meals were approximately £12-£13 which isn't a million miles off what you can pay in some lovely independent restaurants now. Service in these places is non existent which is fine and expected. The biggest disappointment was the portion sizes, which felt extremely small. The ham and chicken pie was okay in fairness. Another family member had The trio of pies, whilst okay felt a bit strange having two traditional pies and then a chicken tikka. Dessert was okay. Standard microwaved dish. All in all if the price had been under a tenner I'd probably have been more generous in my reviews. I no longer think at full price this chain is good value at all.

For the money you can't beat it!

Had a really lovely time here recently while meeting up with a friend for dinner. Great staff and really helpful and friendly. The food was delicious! Hot and tasty and exactly what we wanted. A nice cosy place to relax over dinner and drinks.

every time i come here something is wrong last time i never got my main for 40 mins whilst the rest of the party did and today i still did not get my dessert after over an hour of waiting
