Barrett's Fish and Chips in Broadland

Came one Saturday evening, I'm not normally in the area, so I'm glad I was able to visit just before closing time.

new owners here now and the prices have skyrocketed. Sadly, in mine and my others half’s opinion, we’re all entitled to them, the food quality has seriously gone down hill too. Under previous ownership the batter on ones fish would have been light, crispy and certainly not too thick. Ours today was extremely thick and appeared like a slab of cement render on a house wall on both sides. It was hard, dark brown and stodgy on the inside. On the plus side the chips are ok.

Bit slow on service but there is only two of them chips are like jenga

Had a treat last night, I had a piece of skate which is my favourite, the rest of my family had cod. Unfortunately it was so burnt, over cooked and dried out we gave up trying to eat it. Today we all have upset tummies.

I had cod and chips with curry sauce, it was amazing however the curry sauce pot was rather small… the meal and a drink was £10.50 which I thought was slightly expensive but worth it.

Very slow service... sausages were very greasy... chips OK.. curry sauce, ok... Had to wait over 20 minutes... the sausages were already cooked and waited on the chips... sausages were cold ... The cook was very badly organised... more interested in his phone... The person taking our order didn't write anything down... and then managed to get our order wrong... i won't be rushing back...

Lovely couple serving. Chatting & smiling. Had their fish bites mmm. Menu bit pricey just like everywhere else in this day & climate. But portions of chips very good

The fish and chips here are lovely and cooked very well, but over the last few weeks when I order a large cod got smaller and smaller very friendly but looks as if I have to go elsewhere

Excellent, fast and very friendly service.

Moved back to this Area but pleased to discover that for quality and taste this remains a very good chip shop indeed! Definitely worth a look. Been going a while now, the chips can occasionally be a touch under cooked when very busy sad to say. That said if you ask for them to be a little well done or any custom order they are happy to do so.

Hopefully I it was just an off day as had a portion of chips and they did not live up to the reviews. Very friendly service though and may try again sometime.

We are regular visitors to the area and normally get our fish and chips from another fish and chip shop. This time decided out of travel distance convenience to try this fish and chip shop and I'm glad we did. We both ordered haddock and chips it was not only lovely and hot it was delicious. We will be using this fish and chip shop again.

I've just had white skin plaice and the best I've ever had... I like the fact you order your fish so it's not sitting there ect... batter very crispy and thin melts in your mouth....highly reccomend these guys....they are such a lovely friendly couple ...

busy chip shop, we had cod and chips and mine came in 2 pieces and.was battery, but nice.

Dispite having problems they were still producing a tip top service

I only bought a portion of chips 10 minutes before the shop closed so a full blown review would be inaccurate and unfair, what i will say is that the chips i had were stale, a mix of undercooked and overcooked, bland and chewy, and i was left with a greasy feeling inside my mouth, i doubt very much i will be going back to try anything else.

Noel Barretts name goes down in history as a great businessman and top class fish and chip fryer together with his brother, however, nothing is forever and the gauntlet was passed to the most delightful family that are originally from Gugerat in India. They are personable and serve the people of Hellesdon and further afield so well. The fish and chips here are the best in Norwich with the best humble service and kindness. First class, i recommend highly.
