Had the most delicious carvery EVER last week! Choice of four meats I opted for beef (to die for) and unusual choice for me turkey but wow was delicious thanks all

Visited for a family celebration. Nice airy room. Lovely friendly and helpful staff. Nice varied menu. Lovely sea bass fillets and the puddings weren't bad either. Going back on Sunday for their carvery!

We had a voucher gifted to us a couple of Christmas ago, which was extended due to covid - thanks Brend Hotels; well we booked for carverys yesterday and boy it did not disappoint!! The best meal out for as long as we can remember and the section manager called I believe Anna was on the ball and the whole place ran (and the other areas) like clockwork! I know this hotel caters for a lot but deliver this quality on such a huge level is impressive. Well done to all the staff you deserve praise

We visited the Brasserie restaurant on Wed . evening for the 1st time since Covid . We had dined there in the past but this experience was really excellent . The menu was varied , the tables were well spaced although the restaurant was full and the food was superb . We were also very impressed by the efficient and friendly waiters and waitresses . We will certainly be returning .

Missed our trips to Devon during lockdown and we so pleased to get back here. My aunt adores the bar and restaurant here and service from the staff is truly first class - shame they have to wear those infernal masks, but still they managed to maintain their warm welcome and standards. Meal was excellent although sadly still couldn't manage three courses. Great drink selection at bar. This place remains a firm favourite.

We went on their first Sunday carvery since lockdown. Food was very good and great value. Very friendly staff and all felt well organised re social distancing etc. Definitely recommend.

A variety of meats and vegetables are served here for Sunday lunch but I found it very disappointing when I poured gravy all over my lamb to find it tasted like beef which I don't eat at all and havent liked it since I was a child. Apparently this established restaurant does not bother to make individual gravy for the different meats it serves but just one for all. Imagine my disappointment when I heard we were coming here for Christmas day. Gravy in my view makes or mars a meal and Christmas lunch this year is £80, I was quite shocked to hear that they are still only going to serve one gravy for all even though we would be paying £240 for the 3 of us. I was offered a vegan gravy? Not good enough I am afraid. If I can boil up the bones and make a tasty jus with the meat juices surely this chef can.

W were staying at the Barnstaple hotel and the weather was lousy so decided to eat in, excellent decision on both counts, food was very very nice indeed and prices were reasonable, Highly delighted with the staff friendliness, service and overall quality.

Very busy, but didn’t past our booked time. Three meats to choose from and every veg you can think of all for £10.95 Beautifully cooked and very enjoyable, pribaly one of the best we have had. It’s a carved so you can have as little or as much as you want. There are a selection of hot and cold desserts to follow if you have room for £4.95 something for everyone. Only downside is there is l8mited parking but there are places to find outside of the hotel grounds so I wouldn’t let that put me off. Staff are amazing, it must be a Brend thing as the quality of service, friendliness and proffesi9nalism is portrayed throughout the chain.

The evening 3 course meal is outstanding value and soooo good - real quality food with matching presentation. Who would have known in a town with limited Resturants that a top notch place was in its midst - albeit a mile out of town. I travel a lot and this one will not disappoint. A big thumbs up.

Lovely carvery great value, we arrived without booking and it was extremely busy and it's very popular with locals...the manager very kindly had a table for two laid for us. This carvery was terrific value, the Resturant was spotless and service was with a smile...if we're ever in Barnstable on a Sunday we will definitely visit again

We stayed at the Barnstable hotel for a three night break. Each day we eat in the Brasseri resturant for breakfast and evening meal. First the service this was first class all weekend and i could not fault anything. Now the food well the choice at breakfast was endless it was fantastic and the food its self was cooked really well and everything was hot ,the evening meal was also fantastic with choices on all courses very good you may think until you come to Sunday evening when it is carvery day and what a meal it was fandabidosey I even had to go for a lay down afterwards they also do the carvery at lunch time and on our weekend they did 350 covers great fiod great team great hotel 10 out of 10

My wife and I were staying as residents of The Barnstaple Hotel, but given that non-residents can also visit the restaurant, have chosen to review it separately. Weeks before our trip to Barnstaple, we had looked at the menu, read the reviews and were frankly quite excited to be dining here. Residents of the hotel certainly do not need to venture in Barnstaple town to eat. My wife had the fish cake starter and I had the beetroot cured salmon - both were excellent. My wife had the lamb main course and I had the sea bass. We were delighted with both of these, although I thought the highlight for me were actually the vegetable sides! Great care has been taken over these. The service, food, general dining experience was at superior level until it was the turn of the young lad with 'shaggy hair' to play his part in our meal. His only job is to clear plates, provide complimentary water and offer the dessert menu. He cleared our plates, topped up our water and I asked for the dessert menu, which never arrived. It was frustrating to see him only carrying out these three tasks, clearly not able to perform all of them. When one of his more capable colleagues asked us whether we would like to see the dessert menu, I explained what had happened and that we would just have the bill. Shaggy-haired teen aside, his poor performance is not sufficient to lose The Brasserie Restaurant any TripAdvisor 'blobs'. I have been visiting Barnstaple for more than a decade and frankly only Claytons & The Glasshouse has provided anything like this. Wholeheartedly recommended and would definitely return. Amongst the best in Barnstaple.

This restaurant offers high quality food for a premium price. Luxury fayre is the norm. The menu is fairly static so can become repetitive for regular guests, but there's plenty of choice for the most part. I'm not a fan of serving sides in separate dishes but that's a mark of the premium approach not specific to this restaurant! The food and service was excellent.

My husband and I ate here on valentines night, the meal was excellent from start to finish, great menu, lovely food and excellent service. Thank you so much for a lovely evening, we will be back!

Uno de los mejores desayunos que he tenido con toda la comida caliente, con mucha variedad y nada era demasiado problema. Café, té y tostadas extra sin ningún problema como eran conservas. Muy buena comida, Steak & tarta de riñón sin salsa real tenía un montón de gluten. Éramos un grupo bastante grande y fue un poco decepcionante que los huevos con la sobresaliente eran sólo templado por el tiempo las verduras llegamos. Sin duda regresaría. Un pequeño restaurante caro, pero el personal era encantador y muy bien equipadas, así que vale la pena.

Lovely food nicely presented, good portion sizes, a variety of dishes to chose from and reasonably priced! We chose the two course option and this was £22 a head. We were staying at the hotel so this was very convienent, we would eat here again.

We cycled from Braunton to Pottington on the cycle trail and stopped for some lunch. Which was very nice, but a shame there was nowhere outside to sit as it is was a very sunny day, but it is residents only in the garden.

we visit this Hotel quite regular for lunch, always a very good lunch, good choices, from Lovely Starters,Sandwiches, Pannies, toasties, to all different main courses including daily specials of either Roast of the day or some kind of fish dish. Always very good, well presented, plenty to eat, sometimes too much, "we hay oh", that's not a compliant. Very good value for money.

Ate here on Sunday as a party of 9. Cannot fault the food or the service both were exceptional. Well done Barnstaple Hotel.

The dinner set menu offered five or six choices for each course, including vegetarian options. Our choices for starter (ribs /chicken wings and goats cheese with tomatoes) were both very tasty, as were our mains (pork loin and roast beef, dish of the day). Mains were accompanied by a lovely selection of well-cooked vegetables, all served piping hot. We shared a ginger cheesecake for dessert. Staff were attentive and obliging and the manageress had a very lively manner.

We have had the Sunday Lunch at the hotel on numerous occasions and it never disappoints. The Carvery is the best around and the desserts are to die for.

We had one late dinner here, just sandwiches because we were late but they were kind to arrange for us. Breakfast was also very good. Great poached and scrambled eggs.

This is a great hotel for a weekend break. The bar food was really good. We ate burgers which were really spot on after a five hour drive! Indoor and outdoor pools with a sauna. This was a great start to our day and very relaxing. Staff were friendly and the rooms were comfortable.

Catch up with friends, the majority chose from the OAP menu which had a decent amount of choice. Very relaxing atmosphere as we were there for approx 3 hours! No chasing up to leave. Other people had come & gone.I think we were the first to arrive & almost last to leave!

Only had a bar meal at night - the tastiest I've had in ages!For breakfast - it was also good. even had a choice of sausages -dark and well done or lightly finished. The chef had poached eggs ready and waiting rather than have to wait for them. - and they were perfectly done, not hard and solid! Anna the waitress was on form and covered ground and tasks like it was her own business. Recommended.

Really enjoyed the food. I had risotto balls and they came with loads of vegetables. However, it took a while to arrive and it was not busy.

Went for a family celebration and we were all very impressed. Excellent service, great value. as for the food - best carvery I've had in ages. We piled our plates - but there is no need to, as we were invited to go back for seconds. Puddings are extra, but worth the money. So much choice, good portions, delicious.Well done, chaps!

very good service throughout the dining experience , staff very polite and friendly , food was outstanding , both quality and quantity , not rushed between courses , unfortunately after our weekend break we could not manage to enjoy the fabulous sunday carvery due to the filling meals the previous two days , but be assured we will return in the new year .

The meal, three courses for £26, exceeded every expectation, then ran back, and over took them all again, just for a laugh. Simply superb. The chef really was on form that evening.

Had a large Sunday lunch special sandwich around the pool. Came with all the trimmings of a roast dinner!

I and my partner joined his family for Sunday lunch there today. The restaurant is lovely, airy, and beautifully laid out. The waiter came promptly and the the drinks order for the nine of us, and we went to get our food. There was a good selection of meats, and a great selection of vegetables. All were cooked to perfection. I had beef, which was so tender and tasty, and the gravy was delicious. To follow there was the choice of one hot pudding with custard, and a good selection of cold desserts to choose from. It's just a shame that I live 170 miles away, or I would be a regular visitor.

During my recent stay at the hotel I ate in the restaurant for breakfasts and also had a burger from the specials menu in the evening. The breakfast was varied with lots to choose from and the eggs were cooked to absolute perfection! The chef on Wednesday 16th Brought a smile to my face with his kind words whilst I was visiting my ill gran. The poached eggs he did me were delicious as was the rest of the buffet breakfast. The burger and chips in the evening were that of a gourmet restaurant and I really enjoyed the meal. I also had a cream tea from the restaurant which did not disappoint and disappeared rather quickly :-) Looking forward to eating here during my stay in October!

Whenever I find myself at the "motel" it always seems to be a birthday or family gathering, so it holds happy memories. Thankfully the food and service has always been first class so form part of those memories. Thanks Martin and the team at brends.

My sister had booked for 8 adults and 2 children to eat the carvery here for my mum's birthday. It was my first time visiting so i was looking forward to trying it out. I opted for a bit of beef and pork with roasties which were both very good, however most of the veg i had was all overcooked, especially the mushy brussel sprouts. The carrots and white cabbage were ok though. The swede was also disappointing...too much cream so you lost the taste of the actual swede! Unfortunately the yorkshire puddings weren't homemade...even though they are so easy to make in advance, such a shame. Also the chipolatas had a strange sticky sweet coating on them which made them taste truly horrendous...i think it was supposed to be honey and mustard but the fell way short of the mark.The dessert selection was amazing...lots to choose from and everyone at our table who had a dessert was very happy indeed. I opted for the strawberry and cream meringue which was lovely. The banoffee was highly praised too! All in all, i was disappointed to pay £15 for a meal which was just satisfactory, the dessert saved this from being a 2 rating. I can get a better roast dinner elsewhere, The Bell Inn at Parkham for example, for the same price, so i wouldn't choose to eat here again. However, the service staff at the hot plate, the waiting staff at the tables and the ladies at the paying desk were impeccable, very professional and a credit to the hotel.

We recently experienced the Sunday carvery lunch at the Barnstaple Hotel.The way the restaurant is presented is lovely, classy without being brash.The front of house staff are very attentive, without being a nuisance. My elderly mother was with us & the waitress helped her choose her lunch & carried it back to the table for her, well done.The food was absolutely lovely, Beef (Very tender), Turkey (Not dry) & Gammon (Not too salty) with a wonderful array of vegetables, all cooked to perfection.The dessert choice was a number of different sweets, all nicely presented & very tasty.All in all, this Sunday lunchtime carvery is by far the best we have experienced locally.

Brilliant food, great service. Food just as good but cheaper if you get served in the bar area. The roast of the day (beef) was really tender. The cheeseboard was amazing; I had the trifle - wonderful.

The Sunday Carvery is a joy, great organisation and the food is superb, the beef melted in your mouth and the array of vegetables were fantastic, the dessert table was scrummy with a choice of a dozen delicious sweets, You really need to book as it is very popular with locals and visitors, I simply cant wait to visit again

Stayed in this hotel 8 or so years ago and thought it was really nice. At night we went into the restaurant not knowing what to expect. It was superb! The staff were fantastic and the food was even better. There was a magician going around the tables which the kids loved. So skip forward 8 years later and we stayed at woolacombe just up the road (wishing we hadn't)So we thought we'd go back to one of my wife's favourite ever restaurants ( the Barnstaple hotel)It didn't disappoint again! The food was brilliant again, superb fresh food served with excellent staff and a good wine list. The staff were attentive, the room was clean, friendly and inviting. I wore trainers and asked if they were allowed and was welcomed in all the same. Bar food was also available in the adjoining bar.Cannot rate these two meals and experiences highly enough and will always remind me of our visits to Barnstaple. Ten out of ten!

Excellent carvery with a good choice of meats and vegetables. The restaurant was very busy, but that didn't alter the level of service at all. Staff very helpful and friendly. Bar food is also very good and reasonably priced.

This is a hidden gem of a resturant, good choice, well cooked and plenty of it. Exceddingly good value.

We had booked into this hotel for two nights and had planned to have dinner in town. We are now glad, we didn't. The restaurant looked attractive (light tones, white table clothes etc), the service was pleasant and importantly the menu offered a good choice and the quality of the food was excellent and nicely presented.

We had the carvery which was Ok. Nothing special, just a two roast carvery served buffet style. A variety of veg and gravy. Mother carvery charge was just for carvery but the deserts and drinks were more expensive.

The Barnstaple Hotel from it's surroundings could be misleading, but once inside that all changes. A Beautiful Place.Only Down side is not able to stay longer.

Braekfats catered for all tastes - try the creamy scrambled eggs! Dinner both evenings were outstanding, so a big thank you to immaculate chefs.

The complimentary use of the leisure facilities was a bonus to our stay at the hotel. Decent rooms. Quality of service and food at the bar cafe was good. Staff are friendly and we enjoyed our stay.

Went there for a meal for my mums birthday last night (21/04/15) and what a lovely surprise it was. The meal was superb and the service; well iv got to say it was the best I have come across in a long time. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. They were attentive, efficient and very much in good spirits which made them all the more approachable, and really made the service they gave that much more personal. I would not hesitate in recommending The Barnstaple Hotel for a meal. I will definitely be returning. So thank you for making my mums birthday night a real treat.

Visited here on a whim as we were nearby and the reviews on Tripadvisor were quite positive. The restaurant seems geared towards families and crowds (at least it was on Sunday), with a fairly comprehensive carvery. The meats were a mixed bag on the day, some excellent, some just decent. A good range of desserts were also on offer. The service was a little formal but friendly enough. Overall, very good value for money.

Our Art Group and our Woodturning Group always have their Christmas party at this venue. They know how to serve 32 people at once with hot food and drinks and their sweet trolley is to die for. Had Sunday lunch their 2 weeks ago and it was delicious.

Relaxed atmosphere & very good value for money. Also a la carte menu available. Usually go there when visiting friends. After lunch there is also comfy seating for taking coffee etc for an extended chat. Staff always very pleasant.

Ate in the lounge Bar Menu excellent wasn't over keen on Restaurant menu but Bar menu was as good as if not better than many restaurants. I didn't bother going elsewhere.

Four adults out for an evening meal chose this hotel as a change from our usual top rated restaurant. We have eaten here before and again the food was exemplary although there were a couple of minor hiccups with the service this time.One of our party has a food intolerance and this was well catered for.We would all certainly visit again, recommended.

I am not sure that I should be sharing this as it will make it harder for me to get a booking next time!We saw an advert in our local paper for a Sunday carvery at the Barnstaple hotel. We had noticed the hotel before, from passing by, and thought that it looked a bit drab from the outside. However, as my sister was due down for the weekend we thought that we would book.Arriving on the Sunday day we saw that the car park was full and took that as a good sign.On entering into the hotel, we were agreeably surprised by the beautiful interior; such a contrast to the outside. We were warmly welcomed by the carvery receptionist, advised of our table number and entered the dining room. What a wonderful room, well laid out and nicely decorated, with crisp linen tablecloths, and good weighty cutlery.A waiter saw us to our table, explained how the carvery system worked and organised our drinks. My sister is a vegetarian and asked about the provision for her tastes.Once our drinks had arrived we took turns going to collect our food. I couldn't believe the range of choice of vegetables on offer! There were 8 different vegetables, and that excluded the 4 varieties of potato. It was so nice to just have "a little of this, and a little of that" but I still ended up with more than I had expected on the plate. It was hard to refuse.So, pretty much like other carverys? But the difference was in the quality of the food. The meat (turkey for me, beef for my wife) was succulent and tasty, a day each of the separate vegetables was cooked to perfection. My sister, the vegetarian, had a choice of two choices, and was really pleased that she was offered vegetarian gravy in a separate sauce-boat to go with it.There was a wide choice of good looking desserts, and cheese & biscuits were available if you wished a savory instead (although you had to request that).Best carvery ever? Certainly, in our experience! Excellent food in good surroundings with attentive and cheerful staff.

We visited on Sunday for a family carvery. We were quick to be seated and drinks order taken promptly. There were 2 queues for the carvery and the chefs kept them moving. I had the vegetarian option which was lasange or chick pea and apricot loaf. Lots of vegetables cooked just right. Dessert was served by the pool and 3 of our party enjoyed it. My husband and I ordered coffee which unfortunately never arrived hence the 4star rating.

My husband decided to treat me to a carvery after i finished work yesterday and took me to this hotel, the only word i can use to describe it is *amazing* The beef just melted in your mouth and the choice of veg was fantastic as was the service the staff gave and such value for for money at just over £9.00 per person. A perfect 10/10 and a must for everyone looking for anyone wanting a gorgeous roast!

We were surprised to find tables well set and proper waiter service.Evening meal an breakfast were excellent and prices were very reasonable compared to other places we had eaten on our vacation.

Excellent a la carte menu with "specials" available. I had the lamb and it was superb - also a huge selection of fresh vegetables came with it, which I love. I liked the concept of a single charge for 2 courses regardless of one's choice.

Went for a family reunion post wedding wind down. The carvery and food were beyond reproach. The plate was over flowing with great well cook food. Everything to this point made this a highly enjoyable visit. Then came the time to leave and pay and everything went to pot. The receptionist decided at this point to have a total meltdown and made her frustration known to us by her manner. Even when things were explained to her by her colleague and my wife this didn't appease her bad mood and being rude to a customer just destroyed all the hard work of her coleagues. Entirely singlehandily destroyed the great thoughts had of this place.

Have driven past this place many times and thought it did not look too promising, but others told me differently, so we gave it a try, and will certainly return. The interior and bedrooms are decorated nicely and it is all very clean and well maintained. The staff are without exception friendly and helpful, a great bonus. The breakfast is mainly self service but beautifully cooked and the hot dishes are looked after by the chef. Our evening meal of sea bass was cooked perfectly and was well presented. The indoor and outdoor pools look great, but not tried by us as we had such fantastic weather that we were on the beach all day. Free lemonade and ice-cream for the child were on offer, shame we were out so much.

We have been here for a Sunday roast a few times now and still really enjoy it! It's not badly price either for the standard of good food!Booking is a must!

Did NOT dislike anything about this friendly hotel, The Staff are so welcoming. Like home from home. Meet up with the best friends, many of the staff now feel like family at our visits. The staff even join in. Which is great. Look forward to our visits twice a year, July & New Year Celebrations with Fans of S&J Promotions.

I went to stay along with my mum and dad when my dad had work in the area, the restaurant food if the NICEST I HAVE EVER TASTED, the brekkie was yumma, the rooms our lovely, well clean.Everything about the hotel is awesome, the facilities, he room, the bar, restaurant, not forgetting the nicest staff we've ever met.5star. 100% go to!

After selecting the Barnstaple Hotel to have a Sunday Carvery, our family were really impressed with the food and service. Whilst the outside of the hotel was not overly attractive, parking was OK and access from the main road very easy. We were welcomed with a smile and opened door, directed through to the main suite where the Carvery is sited and then led to a table in a light and airy restaurant. Service was very pleasant and efficient. However, the most important part, the food was fantastic. Several veg and a good selection of meats. Every item on the plate was cooked beautifully. Desert wasn't an option as we were so full from the main course. Highly recommend.

met up with friends we had not seen for 40 years they booked us in for the Sunday carvery. This is a well run establishment with excellent staff and the food was terrific.I can highly recommend them to anybody.I dine out a lot and to find a place where the service level and food is so high is these days rare indeed

VERY VERY disapointing. A group of 24 were looking forward to afternoon tea supplied by Barnstaple Hotel - the sandwiches were dry and poor variety. The scones and fruit cake were dry and heavy and the tea was like dish water. Spending £10 a head, expected more from the Brends!

Great choices, well presented in pleasant surroundings served by happy friendly(but not in your face) people.

Great facilities, helpful staff, clean room which was nice and modern with a pool view. Topped off with an excellent breakfast and swim. A great venue for a quiet getaway.

I would thoroughly recommend The Barnstaple Hotel's Sunday Carvery; the food is always delicious; the Arlington Suite restaurant is very spacious, plush and clean; and the chefs and staff are always attentive, cheerful and helpful.For meat-lovers, the carvery is always cooked to perfection with a choice of two meats (usually beef and turkey) and there is a varied selection of vegetables and sauces etc, ideal if you're vegetarian although there is a vegetarian main option, vegetarian stuffing and gravy if requested. Even after you've sat down with your chosen meal, the waiting staff will always bring you extra gravy etc to your table. You simply have to ask.The only negative point for us, is that although the dessert selection is varied and they all look delicious, they are served from uncovered dishes and we feel the hygiene is not ideal so we no longer have a dessert. Recommendation to the hotel: We would like to see the desserts served from a covered dessert display. Be aware: For Sunday carvery, the smaller Brasserie restaurant is only used when it is busy as an overflow for the larger Arlington Suite restaurant.

Eat at the restaurant three times, and each time was very satisfied with the service and food on offer. Prompt efficient service.
