Called in at the 9 Shore St, Anstruther bakery shop of GH Barnett. Lots of calories to chose from. Having made my decision my wife noticed a slice of Tipsy cake. Childhood memories. Treat all those many years ago was Tipsy cake surrounded by marzipan. Never see it now. This Tipsy cake was made with icing but its the sponge you really want to taste. I have now decided Anstruther should be known for Tipsy cake rather than chips. I'll be back.

No visit to Cellardyke would be complete without a visit to Barnett’s Bakery in Rodger Street. The primary reason for my visit was to stock up on my supplies of their fantastic oatcakes (the best you can get) and we also treated ourselves to some of their fabulous leek and cheese bread. The range of pies, pasties etc were also very tempting, as were the cakes, but we resisted - just! Service by the young lady in this branch was charming.

I can't count how many times we've been to Barnett's in Pittenweem. Amazing shop, with amazing products. However, one of the staff members there is so utterly rude and miserable - and has been every time we go in - that we would consider visiting the Anster branch instead. Again today (10/9) we visited to get our normal order, only to be met with utter rudeness. This is not the case for other staff members - who are just lovely. Please, someone just have a word!

This traditional artisan baker needs to be investigated as it has such a lot of quality goods on offer. My favourites are the cheese and leek loaf and the mixed seed loaf, my husband likes the chillie loaf and scones. All freeze really well. Have been in many times for different things and none have disappointed.

Stayed over the new year fifteen minutes walk and it was well worth the effort. The quality and variety of bread was excellent as was the other range of bakery goodies on display. We were so impressed a family member stopped off on the way home to make some purchases to take north!

The word “artisan” tends to be overused these days, and is often inaccurate. That is not the case here and this is truly an artisan baker, with very good, innovative breads and the best oatcakes I’ve ever had.

Barnett's breads are wonderful, they supply all the local restaurants as well as others further afield. We buy bread from them almost daily. Besides all the regular breads one might want (white, wholemeal, granary etc) they produce some amazing and delicious other breads. The Hamish loaf is probably my favourite, but I also love their multi-seed loaf and the Cheese & Leek loaf which is awesome with a bowl of soup or charcuterie. My grandsons love the sweet cakes they produce - rhubarb pies, sair heids and scones. Their oatcakes are fantastic and known up and down the land.

A bit of the beaten track but worth it. If this café was in the city centre, it would be packed out every day! We enjoyed lovely, freshly made sandwiches in a cosy atmosphere and took some delicious cakes home. I hadn’t been for a while but it’s every bit as nice as I remember, we’ll definitely be back.

We didn't stay but went for lunch one Sunday. We booked but several groups turned up without booking and were able to get a table. The menu is the usual pub grub but nicely presented and service was quick. Ae chose the roast beef, meatball and curry with icecream and coffee to follow. All very tasty The welcome and service were frienly and efficient and the dining room light airy and spacious.

What a disappointment. I found the Bothy at Boglily on TA, loved the look of the place, the gorgeous photos of cooked food on their site and the good reviews. We are doing a road trip and this was going to be our Sunday morning treat. The car park was jammed with cars and we saw people standing in a queue to pet baby goats. Upon entering the inviting Bothy and asking a young man for a table, we were told that we couldn’t bring our dog in. Fair enough. Not every dining establishment is dog-friendly. Though I was a bit surprised as the restaurant is in a buffalo farm, there’s a petting zoo and it’s in the countryside. The sun was shining so I asked if we could order our meal and sit at the table on the deck, directly next to the door of The Bothy (see photo for proximity). The young man’s response was that they don’t offer takeaway. I queried whether a table one step from the door qualified as takeaway. It reminded me of the TV ad with the man trying to buy potatoes at a farm shop and being told that he can only pay with digital currency. People taking themselves so seriously that they don’t think of the customer experience. We had driven up from our holiday cottage at Kinghorn especially to get a nice cooked breakfast from their lovely menu, so my surprise and disappointment were apparent. I was directed to the outdoor kiosk they call the Milk Bar to order something from their limited selection. We ordered one Double Cheese Toastie with fries, a latte, an affogato milkshake ( made with buffalo milk ice cream) and a scone, which was on their menu. The two lovely servers told me that they don’t sell scones outside and I would have to go to the Bothy Café to get one. When I explained that I had been told up there that I couldn’t get anything from them takeaway, the young woman offered to go get one for me. They were both very sweet and I apologised for my previous grumpiness. Unfortunately, it wasn’t worth the trouble. The cheese toastie and fries were served in a cardboard tray. The toastie was on “cheap white bread” according to my partner. I didn’t taste it. The fries and the milkshake however, were excellent. My scone was dry, cold and crumbled into breadcrumb texture when I tried to spread some butter on it. The crumb was impossible to pick up and eat but my dog liked it. It wasn’t worth eating for me as it then began to rain and we had to head for the car. I can’t help but think that the very cheerful, welcoming and upmarket website promises more than it delivers.
