Loved it when I walked in..hated it when I walked out. Pub was great, location good, Guinness great. Some staff terrible. Went to play darts around 9.30 (previously stroppy) barmaid said no darts after 6pm - even though we had literally just taken over from somebody playing. Asked to speak to manager (Dan) who was super aggressive, and literally the worst pub manager I have encountered in the last 20 years. We left. If the owner reads this they should realise how bad this guy is for their franchise. Maybe he is automatically defending his rude ’ friend’ or maybe he is simply a twenty something with zero social skills. Bottom line, I never go out n social media but this ‘ manager’ needs to be called out. I walked in laving your pub, walked out hating it.

I went to the Barley Mow for my 60th birthday with 5 friends. The food was simple but good and there was a good range of beers. The pub is small but comfortable but what absolutely made the day was the staff. One of my friends has an intolerance to corn and the efforts that were made to help him out were amazing. The staff were friendly, good-humoured and remarkably tolerant of my increasingly drunk group. Thank you for making it a very entertaining day

So, dropped into this pub this evening after a day in the office with some of my colleagues. As it was quite busy inside, and we didn't want to sit at the bar - as it's quite small and didn't want to block others getting to it - we went to sit outside. There are some chest-looking seats behind some pavement barriers, then the pavement clearway area, then a line of small tables and chairs nearest the road. As the 'chest' style seats only seated two, I pulled a spare chair from the other seats over so that all three of us could all sit and chat together. The chair was still behind the pavement barrier, so as to not block pedestrians. That arrangement lasted for about a minute before an over-officious employee asked me to put the chair back to its original position. Nobody was asking for the spare chair, but it seemed to have upset her OCD or something. Or perhaps she was just being awkward... because she can. Who knows? When I politely enquired why I couldn't sit with my colleagues, she responded rather coyly with some unbelievable excuse that it was "Council rules". Really? So, it seems that London Councils grant pavement drinking and dining, but if you dare move so much as one chair (even though it's still out of pedestrians' way, behind the pavement barrier) then saud Councils will bring the full force of some obscure bylaw upon the landlord's head. Of course, there is no such rule - our company operates hospitality premises all over London and we know the bylaws - so it appears to have been just some ridiculous jobsworth at the pub, making it up as she went along. Probably why she couldn't look me in the eye when muttering "council rules" at me. So, we moved back inside and sat at the bar stools, and got muttered at again, for being in front of the bar that we were trying to make free. So, we won't be back if that's how petty you can be, and the whole office will know about it by next week, as to how ridiculous the staff are. With 500+ employees, that's potentially a lot of lost business. Next time, just let punters sit where they want, as long as they aren't blocking doors, or pedestrians. Otherwise you look a bit officious, petty and just plain ridiculous. None of the other bars do it, nor the coffee shops all along Baker Street, but this place... well, chair rules take precedence over customer comfort.

Mediocre pub. There are better ones all around. However if you are someone who likes dogs, then this place should absolutely be avoided. They hate them. They don’t allow them inside. They ‘allow’ them outside (on the pavement which they don’t own!) until 5pm. I arrived with my lovely little doggie, perfectly behaved but thirsty and not only could I not get a drink for my dog, I was told I couldn’t stay either as a result and had to leave. I had planned to meet friends. I’m glad they lost my business. I would never go back ever (with or without my dog). Anyone slightly like minded should consider finding a different spot locally (there are many) and giving their business to a different establishment. Dreadful experience at a dreadful place with dreadful staff. There is so much better around. You don’t have to look far.

We had just had dinner and wanted a drink before going back to our hotel. It is an unpretentious pub, with a great range of beer, whiskeys and gins. It also has quaint little booths if you want to eat or drink in privacy. What was nice about the pub was that it was laid back and was more like a local pub. Not full of suits or tourists, just normal people. The staff were friendly and helpful. The drinks were average prices for London, buy what a selection! The pub was also not to noisy (It was around 2045). Most pubs in Marylebone are more like wine bars. so if you want to visits a more traditional pub, This is ideal. I lived in Marylebone for over 25 years and it has less of a community feel and is more a rich persons playground. The Barley Mow took me back to what it used to be like!

My other half always visits this pub when he comes to Marylebone so I was really looking forward to being there myself. We visited Saturday 4/5/19 having arrived by train from Banbury on the weekend that Euston was shut making a normally easy journey quite stressful as we had the dog with us....So came out of the station, a bit frazzled, but looking forward to a lovely drink in a great London pub we walked to Dorset St. We were somewhat taken aback that having asked the staff they said they were NOT dog friendly...... So nevermind but as the other half was really keen to have a pint, and it wasn't too cold, we said we'd sit on one of the garden benches outside the front of the pub. Imagine our surprise, annoyance and a bit of disbelief when they told that the 2 benches OUTSIDE on the pavement were not dog friendly either!!!!!Needless to say I can't review the drinks or food as I wasn't allowed to try any!!!!!

There was plenty of room at the bar, as well as a lot of seating for dinner. The menu was made up of basic England pub fare- Fish & Chips, Meat Pies, Bangers & Mash, sandwiches... Our food came out very quickly after we ordered it, so it had to be somewhat pre-made. I seemed to enjoy my Steak & Ale Pie a little more than my friends enjoyed their Fish & Chips. I arrived before opening time but the friendly staff allowed me to have a seat and a look at the paper while they got ready to properly open the doors. A great relief for an old man whose walking stick was feeling the effects of a bit of a route march to get there. Nothing was too much trouble for either of the barmen and although the Merlot was not 100% (I cannot drink beer these days much to my regret) all my companions said the various beers on offer were excellent. Who goes to a proper pub to drink wine I ask myself and therefore have no complaint. I'm sure that if I became a regular (which distance precludes) they would make sure the wine would be perfect. If I survive another year I'll be here again unless I get an excuse to visit a bit earlier.
