Bardon Mill Village Store and Tea Room in Northumberland

The food was fresh, home cooked and very tasty, the service friendly and the prices very reasonable.

Stopped here for breakfast to break up journey on the A69. Map showed Starbucks as next place but spotted the road sign and very glad we stopped off here instead. There were a small number of parking spaces directly outside and and some outdoor seating. Friendly service, great toasties and a hot cuppa.

So glad I stopped here for cake and bananas to fuel my ride yesterday! Great shop, friendly welcome and amazing cake! :-)

My kids really wanted a treat and I took them here for a cake which they really enjoyed chosing. It is a small pretty shop with good choice and with nice staff

We enjoyed a lovely tea break. Indoor seating. Table service. Good range of cakes and hot drinks. Just what we needed at the end of a day’s hiking and before we caught the train. Good value for money. If catching the train to Carlisle allow 10 mins to walk to the right platform.

We were looking for Bardon Pottery and saw this lovely village store with cafe across the road and ventured in where there was great music (Steely Dan) and ambience, we had superb coffees and cake and witnessed all the comings and goings of village characters, milk delivery and regular visitors. A great spot.

Called in here for lunch. Really nice place. It was cold and raining outside and the Teashop was lovely cosy and welcoming. There was quite an extensive snack menu with soup, pannis, sandwiches, scones and cakes. I opted for he soup which was really lovely, a spicy curried lentil mix. My mum opted for the toasted cheese and onion sandwich which came with crisps and a side salad and was really nicely presented. We both had fruit teas. Service was really good and the proprietor was very pleasant. This is a really well stocked shop as well with some nice locally made gifts, including pottery, soaps and art work. Bill came to £10 for two lunches and two teas. Good value. Well worth a visit.

Lovely and unusual little local store with tables for lunch. We only had a coffee but the food such as toasties and cakes looked delicious. The coffee and hot chocolate was very good and warmed us through after a chilly walk along Hadrians Wall. Will definitely return for lunch when next in the area.

A warm welcoming cafe/shop used by locals and tourists alike. Dogs welcome and gluten free options. I really liked its quirky mix of village shop and cafe. The man behind the counter was amazing juggling orders and making sure everyone got what they needed.

What a fab place this is. Well stocked shop with an interesting variety of gifts and a tearoom. We enjoyed cheese and ham toasties presented with crisps and salad leaves. The toasties were well filled and absolutely delicious. Followed this with a generous slice of cake which was delightful. Thoroughly recommend this place if you’re in the area. Great value for money. Looking forward to returning later in the year.

Love this place, Michael the owner really values his customers.Had a lovely lunch, the toastie are the best we've tasted anywhere and if you like Jaffa orange cake smothered in chocolate this is the place for you.The coffee is great too.

We hadn't had breakfast and had been to see a house so wanted time to think. Lovely coffee and superb cakes and traybakes. Friendly people and quite obviously very popular with local people as well as passing trade such as us. Great find.

Fell apon this tea room and local store in the heart of the village by accident. Lovely scone and tea cake. Lots of different tray bakes and cakes on offer plus soup and toasties. Reasonably priced and only 5 mins walk from train station. Friendly service. Would def return if in the area again.

Such a fantastic little teashop in a lovely village. The lady was so welcoming and we all really enjoyed our toasties and beans on toast along with a good few pots of tea, followed by delicious cakes. Called in for late lunch. Although the cafe was closing the owner very kindly allowed us to stay for a hot drink and toastier. Both my wife and I thought that they were the best toastier we’ve had anywhere. Can’t wait to go back

This is a great place to stop for lunch , snacks and a good village store. This store is the heart of the community. Michael and his colleagues are most welcoming taking an interest in his regulars and passers bye.

Good strong coffee, great toasties, friendly service, an ideal stop if you're travelling as well. Sadly we didn't take advantage of the exciting sounding loo. But we did get a lovely garden pot from over the road.

After visiting the pottery we decided to eat here. We were made to feel welcome and our vegetarian needs were well met. Really tasty panini and a great coffee. In addition there was local crafts and food on sale. So glad we decided to stop.

This is one place we visit every time we're in Northumberland, and it never fails. Yes, it's quite small, but the owners always manage to fit you in when it's busy, and the home made cakes are not to be missed. A great selection of savoury dishes are on offer for lunch-time too, all at remarkably reasonable prices. Our thanks go to Michael and staff for always extending a warm welcome.

A welcome stop if driving on the A69. We really just needed a comfort break, but decided to have a snack lunch. This was served to our table outside, just sandwiches with salad and a hot drink, but good quality and reasonably priced.

I visit this place every couple of months and I love it.Today it was very busy, but the two ladies looked after us.The food and drink were excellent as usual.Brilliant staff to match a brilliant place.

Not sure if we had an unusually bad experience but this is not somewhere I would return to in a hurry. If I want to be patronised and made to feel small I can probably find the experience free of charge locally rather than drive out of my way to this place.

We called in here on our way to Northumberland in April apologies for late review !! We really enjoyed our sandwiches & pot of tea Before we left we used the toilets Believe me I have yet to see the amount of toiletries for babies !! Impeccably clean & far superior to many of our department stores !! Well worth a visit

We came upon this little tea shop during our slightly lost, desperately hungry drive towards home.... it was officially closed, BUT the lovely owner saw us at the door, welcomed us in and made us lunch and big pots of tea! We were so grateful. It was delicious, big portions and great value too! Highly recommend.

Just wanted a cup of tea and piece of cake. This was the perfect place with nice choice and pleasant service. Plenty of other snacks available along with the usual things you find in a village store.

Great place to stop on a trip out on the bike from Hexham. Excellent service and food. Shall visit again. Far quiter than the Starbucks on the main road, which feels like a service station

Every time I visit here the standard is excellent.Great food, coffee and cakes.I buy provisions from the well stocked shop and there is a magazine stand with a good choice.Highly recommended.

Took the long way home from Newcastle back to Durham and ended up st Bardon Mill. The Village Store and Tea Room, friendly welcome (Michael) great coffee and the “biggest caloried cheese n onion toasties we have ever had. Great coffee, great food and a good price .

My partner and I popped in for a quick bite to eat on our drive to Scotland. We received lovely service and enjoyed two bowls of delicious soup. Lots of options for vegetarians and delicious cakes on display!

Drove here after a decent walk along Hadrian's wall in wind and rain. Passed The Sill, but didn't like the look of their menu (a bit too fancy and expensive). There's a simple selection of reasonably priced meals here. The soup was lovely as were the toasties. The cakes looked great too. The service was excellent and the lady who was there was really friendly and chatty. Would definitely recommend!

Love this place, they serve great coffee and beautiful cakes, in fact all of the food is lovely.I also visit to buy goods like flour, which they stock Doves and Marriages flours which you find hard to source in the supermarkets.If your a home baker these flours produce superior bakes.The owner is so helpful and friendly.They also sell pottery and other gifts and some groceries and great cheeses.

We'd never been before until yesterday, and what a lovely place it is. We were able to bring the dog in, box of toys for the kids, great friendly service and lovely cake and drinks. We'll definitely be returning.

This is primarily a small shop. It has a couple of tables inside & outside. It's located well as there isn't really an alternative in the village so it's good for walkers to stop off for basic toasties / soup. The staff were nice to chat & the coffee was strong .

Open for ( almost) all hours, great coffee and service. Well stocked shop. Very convenient.(we were staying at nearby Beltingham, and it was a pleasant walk with our granddaughter and dog.

We stopped into this little store/tea shop on Bank Holiday Monday and were delighted with both the welcome and the quality of the food. Both had carrot and coriander soup with plenty of toasted bread - really delicious. Highly recommended.

Called here for lunch after a walk in the hills around Vindolanda. Michael was very welcoming and friendly, and I was surprised at the range of sandwiches etc on the blackboard menu. I had a toasted ciabatta with cheese pepperoni & jalapenos - it was very good. The excellent reviews are well deserved - great tea and coffee, smashing toasties and a generous salad - not just a few leaves.

We came across this lovely little shop and cafe by chance as we were in the area and needed lunch. The staff were so friendly and the food was delicious. My partner had soup and a cheese scone which were lovely. I had a tuna and cheese ciabatta- so tasty! We thoroughly enjoyed sitting in the sunshine, eating our lunch. It's a well stocked little shop too with essentials with some local arts and crafts for sale too.

We were passing as had visited pottery and saw the village shop was Also a cafe. The owner allows dogs inside, it was a cold day. Only has a few tables, Also a post office, village shop and a few gifts. Really nice cups of coffee and we had a bit if cake that was fresh and tasty. Would stop here again if visiting the area.

We were driving round the villages looking for a bite to eat and came across this lovely village store offering a lovely range of lunch time food at very reasonable prices. This was just what we were looking for. We all selected the potato and leak soup which came with three chunks of delicious lightly toasted fresh bread. The proprietor was very friendly and helpful and the whole experience was delightful.

We arrived in the village in the evening and noticed the closed sign on the door. However a passer-by advised us to enter the shop anyway as we would not be turned away. Sure enough the proprietor was happy to serve us. The prices were quite high but that's to be expected in a little village shop with not much nearby.

We stopped on our journey from Newcastle to Scotland, having travelled this route often. On this occasion my husband was caught short and we saw the sign post for Bardon Mill so took the exit to it. We had left Newcastle not having breakfast so had a coffee and shared a toastie. The coffee was great quality... great cappuccino and Americano ... and the toastie was served piping hot - flavoursome cheese and ham; friendly and efficient service. Simple enough food and drink you may say, but believe me... we have had our fair share of rubbish!The store is quaint - used for the locals for groceries but also stocked with gifts and novelties. The 5/5 hygiene rating didn't go unnoticed either and we will definitely be stopping here on our future travels rather than the garden centre near Hexham - which though ok, is not a patch on this wee gem!

Barton mill is quite a small village but the village store and tea room was excellent. The owner was very friendly and accommodating to our needs. Service was efficient and we loved our toasted sandwiches served with salad leaves tomatoes and plenty of crisps. Value for mo eye was also very good. This was a great place to stop on the Hadrian cycle way route 72!!

This has been one of the most comforting visits ever. I stopped in for a hot chocolate with my partner and it was amazing quality. I personally recommend getting it with cream and marshmallows

Tea shop and local chop just off the A69...must have bypassed it a thousand times en route elsewhere. A real find...friendly owner, tasty snacks and cakes, well used by local people, local interest info and crafts available. Well worth a very minor detour and right opposite local pottery with excellent garden and other pots (Errington Reay).

Take the left turn off the A69 west of Haydon Bridge and the store is facing you opposite the pottery chimney. Ample parking outside an a friendly and active greeting indoors after all it is the local shop. Choice of food limited but the toasted breakfast flat bread is an ample and delicious choice served with good real coffee which I just had to have a second cup. Cafe and shop were equally busy during our visit a great little enterprise. Well done.

My wife and our Rhodesian Ridgeback "Kobie" were travelling back from Alnmouth to Kippford and turned of at the village of Barndon Mill for a break on the drive.............best detour we could have made! Ample tables outside, fresh cakes, super coffee and lovely hosts.More than welcoming for the effort you put in you deserve to suceed.

Small and cosy village store and coffee shop, very friendly owner. We had amazing toasties washed down with good quality coffee. Sat outside with the dog covered by blankets left out by owner to keep off the chill. A great find, will be back.

We went here for my mum's birthday and the owner Michael couldn't have been more accommodating and helpful. The toasted foccacia bread with mozzarella, olives and sundried tomato was absolutely delicious- especially washed down with a hot chocolate! My mum had a lovely birthday lunch out, it was great value for money and I only wish we would have bought more cakes to take away with us - the salted caramel cake went down a treat! Thanks for a lovely time, will definitely go back

Small and perfectly formed, the award winning Bardon Mill Village Store and Tearoom is a fine place to stop for a light lunch while walking in Hadrians Wall country. Michael, the shop's owner, is a friendly host and has amazing multi-tasking abilities; catering for individual customers to groups of walkers or cyclists. Aside from the tearoom, the store stocks a useful range of essentials, packed lunches and locally sourced produce and craft items. Add in a very clean toilet and this little gem of a village store is well worth a visit.

Was looking for a tea room this morning and found this one. Gorgeous cakes, excellent service and some beautiful handmade work as well as the usual shop provisions.

I went with my celiac friend thinking we would just have a coffee after our walk but were tempted by the cakes! We asked if any were gluten free and to his delight he had the choice of carrot or chocolate cake, we both had the carrot which was delicious.

I stopped here twice whilst on holiday in the area. A lovely little shop with the basic essentials and locally-produced craft items plus tables inside and out for drinks, cakes and light meals. Run by a very friendly and helpful lady who is full of advice about the local area and makes everyone feel very welcome. The coffee was delicious and the restroom facilities were spotless.Well worth taking a detour from the 69!

After a few hours walking up hill and down dale along Hadrian's Wall, we felt in severe need of a cup of tea and indulgent piece of cake. This place was a great find. Indoor and outdoor seating, peaceful village and scrummy cakes. Worth seeking out!

My husband and I were on a recci of the area hoping to secure a property and were bowled over by the scenery, people, properties and this charming tea shop and village store. Had a lovely culpable in beautiful sunshine, and spoke to a lovely lass called Kim, (I think). The owners couldn't have been more accomadating and friendly and we fell in love with the place immediately. Kim filled us in on the local news and was really welcoming( need you as the local tourist rep!) the tea room was spotless and was so warm and inviting.a lovely atmosphere we didn't feel like visitors at all rather as locals that had lived there all our lives. Returned again a few days later with our dog and again were all invited in out of the rain. A real asset to Bardonmill mill , hope to become a regular , look forward to our next visit.thanks for the superb hospitality.

Our first day in Northern Ireland and we really needed a coffee break. It wasn't planned to drop by the Bardon Mill Tea Room, but I think those are the best stops. The owner is very friendly and the shop looks lovely. You can have different kind of coffees, so we enjoyed our latte and americano in the sun with delicious homemade red velvet cake, scones and ginger muffin. If you're in the neighbourhood, don't hesitate to pop in!

Had been to Allan Banks for a walk and in need of some refreshments so popped in for coffee and cake. The tea rooms were busy for late afternoon and had my eye on the one remaining cheese scone but unfortunately the customer in front of me had the same idea. However, settled for the Victoria sandwich cake and was not disappointed. Have no hesitation in recommending this tea room and we fully intend to return.

Popped in for a coffee at about 11.00. Lovely coffee and home made shortbread.Went back for lunch after a trip to Bardon Mill pottery. Toasted sandwiches and soup were delicious. The guy that runs the place is very pleasant and he keeps the cafe, store and the facilities in immaculate order. A really nice place to stop at for coffee or a snack lunch.

Situated on National Cycle Route 72 and next to Bardon Mill station, this is a great place to stop when in need of an excellent cup of coffee and some fine cakes. I always get a friendly welcome from the people who run it and they always go out of their way to be helpful. Although it is small inside, there are tables outside and a green with picnic tables. If you are a muddy cyclist like me, it's a perfect place to stop when you are flagging, and being a village shop too, they sell handy necessities like elastoplasts.

We found this place on a charity bike ride. We asked to charge some batteries for the cyclists and the staff were happy to oblige.They also make some great coffee and hot chocolate.The warmest of welcomes, such a great place.
