Barassie Chippy in South Ayrshire

We needed over 50 fish suppers on the beach last night for my son's memorial. Monica and Ricardo went out of their way to ensure it was fantastic, hot & tasty as ever. We cannot thank them enough ❤️

Fish freshly cooked but when I opened the box with the 2 bits, it was swimming in grease. There was no mistake as I asked for no salt or vinegar, it was just grease and it was so over cooked, when I got through the batter, it was almost empty, no fish. Very disappointing

Disgusting. Couldn't eat it had to throw it out. Chips were soggy and when I bit into my sausage it was so oily it actually sprayed all over my face

Popped in last night for a family chippy tea to celebrate my dad’s 85th birthday. He loves this chippy and I must say he was not disappointed by his fish and fritters last night. Lovely sunny night to eat at the seafront (in the car) too.

Cannot recommend this chippy highly enough. Fresh preparation while you wait. The staff are so friendly and attentive. Must mention Sarah and Tegan who always have a smile and are so welcoming. A must visit Chippy when in the area. Their achievements are visible in awards on display. Will be back for sure.

Usually love this chippy... Really disappointed with the portions, ordered a supper between two, the chip portion was tiny...it really wasn't worth the staff adding them to the box as it was barely half a scoop. Asked for a tub of curry sauce and for £1.90 it was the smallest tub ever. Really disappointing, the quality of the food wasn't up to it's usual standard either.

Not used chippie in a while. Previously loved a meal from Barassie. Usually crisp, fresh food. Was sadly disappointed on this recent visit. Not sure if they’ve changed the cooking oil but the food had a bad taste. Not very warm and not crisp. Must admit it was a rather expensive mistake! Hopefully it’s a one off as I’ve enjoyed plenty of meals over the years. Not recently.

Truly amazing shop providing great fish suppers. Wonderful menu catering for all tastes. Must mention Sarah, Rowan and Ricardo who are so friendly and attentive during my visit. They are great ambassadors for the shop. It’s a must visit shop when in the area.

Probably the best fish and chips we've had. Staff very friendly even though it was during a busy period. Highly recommended

Staff are efficient and quick. We visited from England though and this is the first time I have ever had an uneasy feeling in Scotland and I visit every year. Not the staff I must add but the 'locals' were hostile when hearing my accent. I wouldn't care but I am from the North East, its hardly London! Would not go again simply because it made me feel uneasy.

This is the best CHIPPY anywhere. The staff are truly amazing and friendly. Must mention Sarah, Yoan, Jordyn, and Silvano. They are always smiling and engaging in conversation with customers. Great atmosphere too. Food is great with big portions. This is a must visit place when in the area. Will be back for sure.

I'm a regular but recently during summer months I noticed deterioration in quality in make of oven made pizzas . They have become very very thin and crispy. It was as if they cut back on dough but not cut back cooking time . Disappointed and haven't been back since . The pizzas were always great previously.

Excellent Fish &Chips, the best in Troon for me. I just love it. I really recommend the fish n chips here, friendly staff fair price.

Tasty fish and chips cooked fresh and decent portion size. Very busy but worth the short wait. Will definitely return next time in Barassie!!

We had been at the beach and wanted to have something to eat and saw the Barassie Chippie and called in there. So glad we did as their food was so delicious.

After a lovely day out at the beach, me and the wife thought we would finish our day with a nice fish supper. We usually go to another chippy in Troon, but thought we would try this one for a change. When we first opened the box we thought wow, 2 pieces of fish , nice looking chips. However, it turned out that it was more like 2 pieces of batter, covering 2 thin slices of fish, with so much grease, I’m sure they were still swimming in it, Chips were ok If just bit greasy. Going back to Troon next time. We just wasted £14 of our pension money.

First day trip in a long time, beautiful weather and came across this great wee fish and chip shop. Can’t tell you how much we enjoyed our fish and chips! The fish was top quality and the batter was perfect. So crisp and delicious and piping hot. Always happy to support a business which offers such good quality.

We popped in for a bag of chips and I must say that they are very tasty, cooked to perfection and served in a paper try, everyone enjoyed them and I'm sure next time we pass tbrough Troon we will be stopping at the Barassie chippy again

They gave 2pieces of fish in a fish supper. Also kindly gave extra box as I intended to share with hubby while sitting in car park across the road looking at sea. Highly recommended.

Fish and chips are the best in Britain prices are excellent well worth a visit whilst in ayrshire it's right by the sea great walk and views of arran buetiful wee place

Fish supper, sausage supper...fresh, crispy, hot, tasty, pleantifull, good value, great staff, very clean...what's not to like?? Get yersen in there, it's fantastic!! And I'm from Yorkshire ans we know a good chippie from a bad un. This is the best!!

Barassie Chippy has recently reopened after an unfortunate fire that put it out of action for a few months. Great to see them back in business as we have definitely missed them!For my money, this is the best chippy in Troon. They offer a wide menu, with everything cooked fresh and to order - that means you have to wait a little longer for your food but it's worth the wait. I have always found the portions to be generous and good value. I'm so happy to have them back!

Had black pudding supper from here and it was the best ever. Chips are lovely and the black pudding in batter tasted superb. Partner had fish supper. Portion was huge but absolutely delicious and no bones. Only criticism was the price of the fish supper. Bit steep at £6.20. Will be visiting next time in the area. Thumbs up great food.

We always drove to this chippy for the decent fish suppers! We must pass about 8 chip shops to get here.Staff very quick and organised, although the other night the girl forgot part of my order. I was too far away when I realised.Check your order before you leave. You won't find a better fish supper for miles.

First visit as I was in the area and had heard of this place. Had to wait a while as fish was freshly cooked, normally a good sign,however fish was over cooked, batter tasteless and greasy.

My second and last fish supper in Scotland. Same problem as before. Thin fish with lots of batter. The black pudding was excellent and the chips were good.

First off has this place changed hands ?? It didn't seem to have the same personnel as I remember ! I was disappointed as in my eyes this place has always been an institution! I had a notion for scotch pie and chips , the pie itself , well the crust and case was dry and salt ridden , I found it inedible! The chips were drowned in vinegar , so much I had a puddle in the bottom of my container , I will forgive this visit and be back , if the same happens again I'd have to think about it ! Pick it up boys !!

To the wee hurry at the harbour.....unless it's Monday.....we didn't enjoy our fish and chips and thought the fish was from frozen and a bit watery. Mushy peas were a bit tasteless and watery too. I will go the extra mile next time......

For many years this has been for us the outstanding chippie in Troon. Freshly made to order - may have to wait, but it is worth it. This is the place to go to.

Used this chippy many, many times and for good reason, food is prepared when you order it, nothing left lying about for any time, always freshly made, might take a wee while longer but well worth the wait. Highly recommended

The quality of the fish suppers are always of a high standard with good portions. The single fish supper is enough for my wife and I. The staff are quietly efficient, with orders presented in a timely manner considering it was a Friday. Good value

This is the best chip shop in Troon. However as everything is made to order the wait can be infuriating. Even if you just want a bag of chips you end up waiting until all before you have been served.

Having arrived quite late in Troon and not knowing where to eat, we were pleased to find this at the end of the street. Lovely fish and chips all cooked to order.

7pm on a Saturday evening. The fish and chips were decent enough, but it shouldn't take 27 minutes from ordering to receiving!

Although there was a long queue, the fish and chip supper was worth waiting for.Brilliant. The better was light and the chips crispy.

I've never had a bad takeaway from here . Everything is cooked to order so you don't see food that's been sitting there for ages under a hot lamp . Phone before you go is my bit of advice

Everything I've tried has been lovely and reasonably priced. The special haddock and chicken are excellent as are the chips and fritters . No grease!! Leave yourself a bit of time though as it can be busy and take a bit of time!

I waited in line and was ignored by staff. Repeated customers came and were served before me. A kind customer informed staff I had been waiting 15 minutes at the till and had yet to be served even tho many others skipped in front of me. To make matters worse, I received cold fritters. I'm usually a regular here but after Friday evening I will never return to this establishment again, nor will my friends!!

quite a popular wee chippy on Barassie shore we had fish and chips which were fine although the chips were a bit soggy nice people serving good variety of take away food popular for sitting near the beach with your supper or on your way home from a day in the sun or the pub.

Excellent freshly cooked fish suppers. Mine is a small special with a carton of peas. Can't comment on all the other fayre but it looks delicious, and they do proper oven pizzas too! Even when it's queued out the door they take your order immediately to make your waiting time shorter- and it's worth the wait!

As long as you're not in a hurry, as meal are only cooked when ordered. Good portion sizes, fish always good though sometimes the batter is too thick.

Thoroughly enjoyed food from here on a number of occasions. Family that run it are very nice and will happily cook anything you want fresh. Chips are crisp and salty too!Prices are reasonable but they only take cash, no cards.

The chippy has changed hands since the last time I was here but the quality of fish is just as good as it was.

The guys who rent the Barassie chippy are my neighbours lovely people. I love the chips they are always lovely. The staff are friendly. Great place for a take away I really wish they did delivery.

Really wanted to go to The Wee Hurrie but unfortunately found to our dismay that it is closed on a Monday. Found the Barassie on trip advisor so thought we'd give it a try.The fish and chips were freshly cooked and if you ask for large fish you get two, which was a bit too much for me. Sadly the mushy peas were tasteless and were more like marrowfat peas. If you want basic fish and chips this place is just fine but if you want a fantastic choice of different fish go to the Wee Hurrie on the harbour road.

my usual is one fish and 2 fritters cost £3,50 and same at ferris in kilmarnock is £2.80 with better size fish.

At Barassie chippy you always get good service and food is made to order so always fresh.Fish are always a nice big portion and very crispy. They have a large menu with some italian choices

Every time my family and I go to Troon or close to the area this is always the chip school we will eat at. The food is excellent and would recommend it to anyone.

Great fritters! The portions of everything in general are huge. I couldn't finish my fritter supper. My dad struggled with his fish supper. Shop is very clean with a good range of food on offer. Staff are efficient and friendly. Very good.

I have been going to this Chippy for longer than I can remember and never had a bad meal , they make it when you order ,always fresh and not covered in grease , and always busy which is a good sign, and wonderful staff always friendly , well worth a visit .

I work shifts and can finish late at night. On several occasions I have went to the chip shop and the staff are very helpful and pleasant. I have had various suppers or chips and they have always been freshly made for me - delicious.

Good choice always fresh and 1 minute walk and you are back on the beach.The only problem we had was there was a large order and some was missing but was fixed straight away

I have never ever had a bad take away from this brilliant wee chippy. Food always fresh and hot. Sometimes you have to wait a 10 mins but worth it. Always busy which is always a good sign. Give it a go, well worth a visit.

You,ve had a great day out at the beach and nothing will satisfy like an old fashioned fish supper. Best advice leave Barassie and head into central Troon to enjoy a great fish supper at the Marina or the Pavilion or even the Wee Hurry if you fancy a cordon blue fish supper unless you fancy the greasy chips and soggy fish Barassie Chippy dish up

I've been eating at the chip shops Troon has to offer all my life and although it won't offer you gourmet food, the Barassie Chippy is always dependable. The food is freshly-cooked, the staff are helpful and the place is clean. Plus, it only takes 2 minutes to walk down to the beach front; the best way to enjoy your fish and ships is sat in front of the ocean. The prices are fair too and it's right next to a convenience store, so if you've run out of vinegar, ketchup or any other fish'n'chips essentials, you'll be ok!

I hadn't been here in years but decided to give it a go. First impressions were how clean and uncluttered it looked. Staff were friendly and it was all cooked fresh in front of me. Food tasted great and wasn't greasy or stodgy. Well worth a visit if you like a good chippie.

This chippie has been producing a high quality fish supper for years, and is very popular with the locals. The food is always freshly cooked, which sometimes means that you have to wait a while for the next batch to appear. Ideally situated just near the beach car park for the many summer visitors especially at the weekends.

The fish and chips here are very good, well worth a visit. If you pick a nice day the chippy is just across the road from some nice picnic tables to enjoy your takeaway.

Excellent fish suppers etc., can be carried out from here and taken to the beach which is 2 minutes walk away. Look out for the seagulls though... They love them too! If you've driven there though you can enjoy your food from the Barassie Chippie as you sit in your car on the grassy areas on the beach as you look across the sea to the isle of Arran.

Get your fish and chips take a 1 min walk to the beach and enjoy looking out to sea. Yummy and relaxing. If weather bad then sit in the car in the car park overlooking the sea. The Ayrshire coast line is beautifull and what better to do than enjoy it with some Scottish food.

The chips were great - crispy on the outside and "just cooked" on the inside. The curry sauce was tasty but a bit on the "runny" side.Good chippy - maybe change to another curry sauce
